A few words of explanation.

Hello to all of you. I know many of you are angry at us and you have a full right to be. A lot of things did not go well on our side, so I would like to explain a few things.

What is going on with Race To Mars?
Same as usual - we're still working on it, currently harder than ever. The upcoming update should arrive soon and it will contain a lot of new stuff.

If it's going so well, what went wrong?
We were overwhelmed by RTM's success on Early Access. Riding your enthusiasm, we decided to fix pretty much every game element - visuals, music, add more hardware, more things, more great elements...

Which ate into our time very hard. What's more, we had to verify parts of our earlier assumptions. Worse still, our techadvisor fell seriously ill, having been and still being in a hospital, which dramatically decreased his working capability. Unfortunately, we lack his deep technical expertise to bring many of the elements to life. This unfortunately gave us more weeks of delays.

Unfortunately, preparations for the Apollo Update aren't going as well as we would like, too, but we definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel and today we are practically sure that we will be able to prepare it in a good state for the middle of September. We will probably be able to add a lot of things that originally weren't meant to be in it, but thanks to the extra time, we can.

Where to find optimistic news then? There's a lot and I hope that they will at least in part recompensate your disappointment over the speed of our work on the game.

First, we are now a much more stable and experienced company than we were half a year ago. We started work in a four-person squad with little experience, and now we have sometimes even 16 people working for our team - not everyone at the same time on Race To Mars of course. Currently working on the game are programmers with many years of experience with AAA productions. We have new artists available and we are still moving forward. I hope this will finally be visible in the Apollo Update. The game has never looked so good before, and I am sure you, too, will be amazed by the new GUI.

Second, the success on EA gave us contacts and chances that we never hade before. Thanks to that we are working on things that will definitely be to your liking whenever we can finally unveil them. With that however I assure you that we will not stop working until RTM is the best damn game we are capable of giving to you. This is our "founding project", which gave us everything that INTERMARUM is today - a group of great people, who love ambitious products. Even today we are working so that Race To Mars can be bought boxed, with many different language versions, in an attractive release for lovers of strategy-economic games.

Third, we know we failed in many aspects. We also have a few ideas on how to repay you for that and are analyzing which of them will be technically possible. We will definitely give our all to thank each and every one of our current fans, hoping you will give us a little more time to make RTM what we have always wanted to be.

I, like the whole team, hope that you understand what problems the project is facing, but also what opportunities await. I also hope that you are with us and I know that these words should have been said a lot earlier. I am sure that together we can make Race To Mars better than we could have ever before.

Szymon Janus
CEO, INTERMARUM

About This Game

Race To Mars is a turn-based, space company simulation game. Become the head of the newly established “New Space” company whose goal would be to establish a colony on Mars. You begin as a startup - develop cutting edge aerospace technologies and use them to achieve orbit and fly beyond Earth vicinity, blazing the trail of a space pioneer and leaving the competition far behind on your way to victory.

Our game will achieve two goals - promote the outer space industry and satisfy all economy game fans. Race To Mars combines the realism of a spaceport management sim and approachable gameplay - we assure you that both subject aficionados and casual gamers will find this mixture most entertaining. Our priority is to make an approachable game without compromising its key economical and strategical features - says Szymon Janus, the CEO of INTERMARUM.

Since we aim to deliver the best quality, we're developing the game in close cooperation with scientists from a Polish space industry company, Kosmonauta.net; and we're using Unity, the leading multiplatform game engine, thanks to this we'll be able to deliver top quality content.

A perfect example of why early access has a bad reputation. There have been no updates as of the time of this review for 3 months.

The game in its present state is unplayable.

If you are a fan of this genre, don't buy now, check the game in 6 months time to see if it has developed at all.

This game has tremendous potential, but the development is a bit slow. This can be a good and a bad thing. Definitely have to have patience with the developers who aren't the best with their time tables. I mostly recommend this game.

For a while I thought the game was okay, not great, most of the buildings didn't have the models. But after a while of playing the game, you attempt to finally launch a satellite into orbit, you get all the resources. But it doesn't let you make it. This whole game has absolutely no meaning and I highly recommend to not buy it, I wasted a good amount of my money and hope you do not do the same

You have no clue for how much you should sell the itens that you build! No idea of mantenance cost of the buildings only after you build it. You have no ideia of what your competitors are doing! R&D you must click to see what's going on. how many engeneers are deploy and how long it takes. The ideia of the games is good! The grafics don't bother me but the logic of the game. Sometimes the image get close and you are locked in a building. Once happens that I lost all personal after saving and loading! This game can be fun for sure but there is still a long way to go!

Not saying its a bad game just that I'd wait until it was finished to pay for it. I didn't realize the game was still in development when I bought it. My own fault but I still found the game almost unplayable. Not that it's broken just that I couldn't figure out how to do anything and there are little to no tutorials yet. Can't reccommend the game in its current state.

Race to Mars is a modern take on the early 90s classic Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space with ultimate goal of sending a manned mission to Mars, the goal will be achieved through a variety of paths. The game starts in the year 2013 with the player starting their own aerospace company similar to the real life equivalent SpaceX. The player decides which buildings are constructed and which technology their hired engineers research. The companies progress is tracked through a Prestige point system, prestige is earned through marketing, completing research, successful missions and random events.

Race to Mars is still in alpha development, as of this release (March 7th, 2014), players are able to research from around 50 different technologies however they are currently limited to only the ability to launch satellite missions using rockets purchased from the in-game market. With that said, the game is in constant development, developers have stated that new content will implemented every 2-3 weeks.

Looks to have potential. But I really can't recommend this to anyone in it's current state. Even trying to work my way to assembling a satellite was painful. Wait for the updates.

Game is Very Much Alpha.

-Many Buildings have yet to be fully modeled and Textured (Listed on Store Page)
-Many Buildings yet to have functionality.
-Long Term Objectives , Besides Satellites, are not present.
-The UI is clunky in my opinion, But this has already been adressed, But not implemented, by the Developers.

Game has the framework to be amazing, Its clearly visible. Sadly not enough is there for me to list any positives.

You always take a bit of a gamble when buying any Early Access. We all know how Long Minecraft took to become what it is today, But Minecraft has Excellent support. Lets all hope the Developers deliver whats listed on the store page.

Only time will tell.

Sadly Steam doesnt give the Option to be Neutral on a review.

Edit - 3/10/14 -
I managed to launch a satellite into orbit. But in game this isnt explained very well at all, Probably due to the lack of a finsihed tutorial, And I had to look up on the forums to figure out how. The Good thing is the Developers have been pretty active on the forum trying to clear up misunderstandings and help and inform users about whats going on as of now.

Thats about all you can do right now =/ Im still very much neutral about this product.

Edit - 3/20/14 -
The Developer is already talking about the first Major update to be released at the end of this month. Contains many updates and new features. Hope this is a start of a long trend.

Edit - 6/22/14 -
Its been 3 Month months and weve had, I believe 2 Minor Updates. Ehhhh

Edit - 7/29/14 -
They have been updating us through steam news and Social Media about the current sate of the game. My faith has been somewhat restored =D
