This was the first time I had replayed BG II since it first came out and as such I had forgotton almost all of the story and it was really good to play it as new. Still one of the best RPGs out there and unlike some other of the older RPGs it is quite good to look at and the interface is not too clunky to use. IMO the magic system is up there with the best, making the strategic element of spell choice and the tactical use of them in combat a challenging and greatly enjoyable aspect of the game. My only gripe is with the in-city elements to the game which I think are a little weaker but otherwise excellent.

9/10 - would have my mind flayed again.

I was born in 1986 and have been playing PC games since Wolfenstein 3D. For me this is the best game of all time. I play it once a year every year (sometimes twice) and will continue to do so forever. I recommend every single gamer who loves RPGs play this and sees where all the classic conventions we all now take for granted have come from.

First ever RPG with which I had contac and I loved it. This game is brilliant. The story is so original and so addictive that I coulnd't find other 'same' game. When I saw remastered version I said to myself that I will give it a try. And you know what? It was great choice to buy it!
The biggest minus i quess is poor voice acting but other stuff is the same like in the original version.

New developer beamdog ruined this great classic with their terrible patch 2.0. It is now a game with terrible mobile device UI and cartoonish graphics. Get classic version from somewhere else.

I played this game years ago when it first came out so I had high expectations. The updates in the enhanced edition are excellent and make for a smoother game overall. I am happy to be able to play this game again with added content. Keep it up Beamdog. 10/10

Despite working with great material, Beamdog manages to fall miles away from the mark of producing a stellar remake of Baldur's Gate 2.

The sheer amount of gamebreaking bugs alongside with the low quality of 'additional new content' just don't make it worthwhile to buy this game. Instead of watching this performance by Beamdog the Understudy, it's just as well to buy the original on Steam or GOG and giving that a go- you'll spare yourself from a lot of grief, exceptionally bad voice acting and a myriad of bugs to choke an Otyugh.

Be me
wild mage
pros
-hold myself with spells
-double enemy hp
-drop cows on allies and make them explode
-in previous game turn myself into a chick
-summon demons
-summon birds
-changed color
-forgot to loot weapons in first dungeon so spent first twenty minutes of game punching enemies (nonleathal damage) and finishing them with magic missile from me and the annoying rogue/mage who won't leave me alone at the start of each game
-stole some guys silver pants
-game requires strategy
-good enough writing
cons
-the second best healer won't shut up about wings
-Tiax cannot join the party
-I can only use a sling for some reason
-mocking the solar turned me into an evil god
-I didn't get the cookies I was promised

Fun game. Suffers from a couple old-school things that come with the freedom to kill anyone and anything. I killed a wizard in a sewer that made me instantly Kill-on-Sight to everyone factioned with the Old Wizards, preventing me from continuing my quest 25 hours into the game because I was supposed to go to this house and speak with a lady, but every time I went in there and triggered the quest event, the wizards I was supposed to save from the bad guys attacked ME along with the bad guys. Quit playing, what a drag.

Otherwise, great game. Just woulda been nice to be able to have known that. But seeing as I killed that wizard probably 10 hours prior to that event, there was no chance I was going to revert that far back.

9/10

These 2 games part one and 2 are just awful!! They are nothing like the PS2 Baldurs Gate so if you are buying thinking the controls will give you action and quick play forget this game. There is no action as you are constantly having to refer to inventory, spell books etc and assigning a action for each attack then click on opponents to attack and repeat this process. I was hoping for controller support or at least buttons to press for quick action style game play but this game is set up very hoaky. Like I said there is no action in the sense of pressing keyboard buttons to quickly attack like in all other RPG games. For each attack you are constantly refering to spell books, then figure out which one you want t use, then go back and click on creatures to attack and repeat this process. I was extremely disappointed after spending 53$. I was totally disappointed and would NOT refer this game to anyone.
