"Well developed and highly fleshed out card game, similar to that of magic: the gathering or hearthstone. Loads of fun and a great time killer."

The Might & Magic: Duel of Champions Development Team is proud to release Sins of Betrayal, an exciting new expansion with cards, features, and fixes!

100 New Cards
New Heroes, Creatures, Spells, Fortunes, Buildings and Event

Card Updates
- All Heroes with the "Invoker" in their title (Asalah, Jezziel, Kal-Azaar, Mother Namtaru, Shaar, Kaiko) change starting requirements from 0/2/1 to 1/2/0
- Lurker in the Dark: Now Requires 3 Might, and has Fear effect lowered to 2
- Chain Casting updated description and effect to: Until end of turn: Spells you play cost [1:RESOURCES] less for each other spell you played this turn. The cost of those spells could not be reduced to less than [1:RESOURCES].
- Bloodsnake Shaman updated description and effect to: The first time an Enrage counter is put on Bloodsnake Shaman in a turn, it deals 1 damage to all enemy creatures on the same row.
- Titan Workforce updated description and effect to: Permanent: The first time that one or more friendly Construct dies in a turn, return them to their owner's hand instead.
- Writ of Fate updated description and effect to: Shuffle target Unique card into its owner's library.
- Generator Titan no longer gives his ability to enemy construct creatures

New features

Replay Manager: added a tool to watch replay files in-game (not available on iPad version)

Pack Inventory screen added to the 'Open Packs' menu

Daily Quests: Quests that required to complete an objective with one specific faction now give the choice between two factions

Infernal Pit gives Wildcards in addition to previous rewards (1 Wildcard for each 1000 Gold worth of Sacrifices)

First/second player advantage: changed the rules to even the odds whether you play first or second in a multiplayer match:

- On its first turn, the first player doesn't draw a card during its supply phase and cannot use his hero's ability
- The second player starts the game with a Dragon Crystal. This special fortune card gives the opportunity to the second player, at the time he chooses in the game, to use one free effect (either drawing a card, gaining a temporary 1 resources boost or dealing 1 damage to a creature)

Resource curve becomes 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc. instead of 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, etc.

When I'm looking for something more complicated than Hearthstone, this is what I'm going to now. Wish I knew about it last year..

I found it very confusing at first, but once I figured out that I can right-click a card and it will explain what the key words mean (charge, swift, quick attack, magic resist, etc... there's a lot of them) it made things a lot easier to pick up. Also, the starter decks are all over the place.. Definitely make your own, simplified deck with a few good spells/fortunes and a lot of creatures, with a good resource-curve.. it'll be much easier to learn from. Also, I recommend stronghold to start, I'm finding them the easiest to pick up as their minions seem to be really good.

You should definitely use a referral code because you get a free copy of the starter deck for every faction right off the bat. Then when you beat that faction in quickplay, you get a second copy of the starter deck for that faction. You can then make a much better deck for that faction with your doubled card-pool.

It doesn't matter who's referral code you use, but here's mine if you're looking for one: TNRMH1
If you do use mine, feel free to ask me questions in the game. I'm happy to help another new player with what I've learned so far and I could use the extra gold :D

It's impossible not to compare this to Hearthstone or Magic, but I think MMDoC can hold it's own against these two other giants of the CCG scene and here is why.

Comparing it to Hearthstone:
-MMDoC is much deeper strategically.
-You are rewarded with a lot more packs by just playing the game.
-Much greater card variety.
-Automated tournaments.
-Three formats to play the game, open, standard and weekly (the latter is a bit gimmicky, but can be fun)
-Spectator/replay mode.

Comparing it to Magic Online (Duels of the planeswalkers doesn't really compare as it is just a dumbed down experience)
-Much better UI
-Can get new cards by playing the game
-Free to play
-Ladder
-Much more newbie friendly

Conclusion:
It's a shame that Warcraft and Blizzard have a much bigger fanbase that most people looking for a Free online CCG are going to gravitate towards it without even hearing about this game. Admitedly, I've always thought the art in Might & Magic games were a bit generic, but the artwork on the cards are excelent.

It may not be as deep as Magic the Gathering, but as a computer game it provides a far better experience.

This is a good deep CCG. Most of the Complaints are either false or have been fixed in the new patch. I have pretty much all the cards I want in the game and only paid like $0.06 for 2 steam puzzle/decks (100+ cards) in the market place. I think it's more giving than Hearthstone, I have been playing Hearthstone since beta and still have a bunch of cards i need. The campaigns give a ton of gold/packs and can be completed with all factions for more gold/packs! You start off with 1 deck but earn other decks as u beat their factions or start with all 6 faction decks if you start the game through a referral.

There are weekly promotions like this last week for every Wild Card (WC) you spend, you get 50% back after the weekend. WC are used to buy any cards you want in the Altar of wishes. The WC prices are fair. There is a login bonus system where u just need to log in and get free stuff every day. Playing a game earns you gold and exp. win or lose, and there are daily quests to earn more gold. Leveling up gives a nice chunk of gold enough to buy a pack. There is a Infernal pit where u can burn your extra cards for Gold, WC and if u burn enough you also get a card(the card changes about every 8 hr). Another way to earn packs, gold, WC, etc is to earn achievements, and there are many of them! Also be sure to search for some codes online which give free packs/gold.

It's more strategic than Hearthstone since you have 8 placements to put your creature. You can be offensive or defensive. You can only attack the hero if there is no creature blocking your way. There are 3 different formats, Standard (recommended for new players), Open (Every card can be used here but could be chaotic for new players), and Weekly format which changes every week. There is also 2 tournament mode: Jackpot (chance to earn gold) Swiss (tournament of 8 players where 1-2 place get 2 packs of the last to exp set and and random player that plays all 3 games will get a ticket and a bs2 pack) I think you should stay away from tournaments until you have reached champion 1 level or think you have a good deck and grasp of the game.

The cards consist of Creatures, Magic, and Fortunes. Most cards have a requirement where you can raise 1 per turn for Might (Creatures), Magic. And Destiny (Fortune). It's pretty simple, the tutorial explain everything clearly. Each Hero has magic school(s) attach to them and can only use spells from that school. There is also Neutral Events where both players can use so pick those out carefully. Try to pay attention to the events, cause I forgot about them when starting out and lost some games cause of it.

Oh and the art work in this is great!

If you use this link, you will start with all 6 decks:
https://signup.duelofchampions.com/portal/index/DOC_world_02_0010_06_200_12_0614_00♥♥♥♥♥♥♥791SBN

So that's 12 decks you will have after beating all the factions once, and will have lots of extra cards to burn in the pit. You can add me too if u like to chat or play a game :)

A really nice game. It is entirely possible to have tons of cards without paying anything. Just completing the daily quest should get you enough money to buy at least 1 pack. The game is far more strategic than a Heartstone and far more F2P.

Have fun !

There are many extensive reviews down there, but let's make the long story short:
-The game has great and unique mechanics, it requires a lot of attention and a few OP cards won't really guarantee your victory.
-Runs smooth and without many problems. There are a few bugs here and there, but still nothing serious.
-It does take some grinding (or money) to build a decent deck, but grinding DOES teach you stuff and is worth your time. Haven't played too much, but it does not seem pay to win.
-Also a great single-player experience with a fairly large and rewarding campaign that you can go through and get rewarded 6 times (1 for each of the 6 factions) PLUS some neat mind-teasing puzzles, hope they add more soon!
-Music, design and graphics are a plus.
-It does need you to have a Uplay account, but well, so what? You DO NOT need to pay a single coin to play the game and have access to everything.
My opinion: If you like TCGs, give it a shot with no second thought!

After a catastrophical update many months ago, that ruined everything and made me stop playing, I decided to give this thing another try a couple days ago. They changed all the problems. Where after the update you could buy barely anything for ingame currency, now you can buy all the standard cards for ingame currency. All the standard cards at least. In the update I mean they seperated all of the cards into new and old. And the old cards can only be gotten with real money. BUT: you are also only allowed to use them in an extra duel format. This means, that in the standard format people can only have the cards you can get with ingame currency. What I like about this game is that you can get the currency so easyly. Where in Hearthstone you barely manage to buy 1 pack by doing the daily quest and winning a couple times, here you get money for dailys, winning and losing and after a while of playing 1 pack, play a little, boom another pack. Also where in hearthstone a pack contains 5 cards here it is 15. This all means, that you can get very many cards very fast. Whats also good is that there actually IS a lot of different cards. This game has existed for a while and every couple months they introduced around 100 new cards. This means that there is no way, that you can have a deck that always wins. There is so many insane ways to combine your cards, that its really just up to your capability to think strategically and creatively when building a deck. Once you have the cards that is. Fazit: I have nevered played Magic, so I cant compare it with that, but from all the other online card games I have played (and boy there are some crappy ones out there) this is probably the best.

Very fun. It has strategic depth unlike other casual digital card games. New expansion (Sins of Betrayal) and upcoming changes are very anticipated. I played this game like 3 weeks and I got myself into Champion I tier, so it is a newbie-friendly game I think. 9/10

This is no longer a pay-to-win game, all these 'most helpful' reviews don't do it justice. As a free player myself, you can find yourself a great deck if you buy specifically good cards in the altar of wishes (uncheck hide duplicates and only buy from 'base set 2', and 'heart of nightmares'. I wasted 15 wild cards buying an expensive version of a legacy card, instead of buying the cheap 5 wild cards base set 2 version, simply because 'hide duplicates' was checked)

Also, the infernal pit helps you get a few of those juicy cards too, but do this only when you've got enough spare cards to sacrifice, after you've bought enough packs with gold

Duel of Champions is a good strategy/card game.
If you like MTG this is a nice alternative to MTGO as it is F2P.

Note that DOC uses a open and a standard format.
There is also a weekly format(which often breaks one rule at a time) for more fun.

I will just list the pros and cons so you can decide if that game is for you.

Pros :
- There is a simple single player/campaign mode (not a single player game so do not expect that mode to be improved/developed) that gives you a lot of reward as you complete it. It also teaches you about a bunch of mechanic and of how strong some cards can be (do not be afraid to make a deck specifically for the campaign and for). Note that the campaign is open format.

- The quest system is nice, it gives you 3 quest each day to do. If you don't do your daily quest one day you don't "lose" the next day's daily quest so you can skip one day if you don't feel like being too hardcore on the game. The next day's quest will be are given as you complete each quest that you had left.

- This is a digital card game so cards are subject to change (which prevents most uninteractive combo decks from being played too long).

- The Altar of Wishes is a place where you can exchange Wildcards for a specific card that you want.

- The Infernal Pit is a place that allows you to sacrifice some of your cards to get some gold (recently you also get some Wildcards) and a chance to get the card the is shown (it changes every 8 hours). Note that it is possible to sacrifice enough cards to get to 100% chance to get the card and it is recommended.

Cons :
- There is a refer a friend system that gives you a starting deck for each faction (you only choose one when you start) so don't forget to get a friend's referal code or just go on the forums and you should find someone's code or just ask. This will greatly help you with the infernal pit and to start out.

- There is a lot of keywords and mechanics that you will need to learn in order to avoid mistakes which makes the game more a little bit like playing MTG except that after a month you should have seen all of the keywords.

- Once you get enough cards you should not try to complete your collections, instead hold on to your gold until there is a promotion(sales on booster/selling special booster, ect...) or that you need cards to sacrifice to the pit for a card that you want. This is just a warning since I am not sure if it will happen again soon.

- Open format is "unplayable" if you intend to keep playing for free as you will need more than the cards you can get at the infernal pit and from the campaign. To get more open cards from the shop you need to spend money to get them and the open format does not seem to get a lot of balance changes so I suggest that you stay away from open.

- Edited: there are a lot of cards in each set and there are some chances that you will not get each of them after buying a lot of packs so you might not learn about the existence of some cards until you have played a lot (like in MTG).

edited : to fix the last point and some typo.

If you dont feel like reading alot heres the short version:
9/10 great game with balanced cash shop.

Now here is the full review.

First and most important, the game itself:

- The field --- its just really well done. Maybe the best i've seen.

- The resources that you need to summon units/use spells --- just excellent! Simple things like that shouldn't be taken for granted. Alot of TCGs have a problem thinking of ways to play your cards. Like for expample a game called Hex (still in beta) that shows alot of promise but you keep getting stuck cuz you either cant summon anything or you cant get anything to summon. Believe it or not i've been sitting there afk for 20 turns without being able to do anything while my opponent was crushing me.

- Factions --- there are 6 factions to whom most monsters are locked to with the exeption of the neutral creatures who can be used by anyone

- Card types --- You've got the usual monsters and spells with the eddition of Events, Buildings and Fortunes . I would've liked some trap cards but meh.

- Monster Cards --- there are a few types. Meele, Ranged, Flying and a Ranged Meele. On its type depends the possition it can take or attack to on the field.

- Spells --- There are a few types. Single target, Adjacent, Dmg in a line, Dmg in a row, Pernament/Over time and Field target.
Theres also different magic types: Fire, Water, Dark, Light, Nature, Arcane and Air.

- Fortune cards --- Fortunes have various effects that can change or twist the rules of the game.

- Buildings --- Buildings can be deployed on the battleground on any space you can play a Creature on. Buildings have passive effects that give additional benefits to your creatures.

2. Visuals:

- The art of the cards is pretty damn good
- The music is great but theres not much of it
- The effects are nice, a few more animations were addet a few patches ago
- card sounds are well done and recognizable. I can tell you what spell hit me (since creatures have the same sound when attacking) without even looking.
- the interface is... ok... but i liked the old one better, it was simple and effective. I have no idea why they changed it.

3. Game Balance

Not much to say there. While yes there are a few annoying cards *cough*spellhungry*cough*breeder*cough*, alot has been done and about 99.9% of them are well balanced.

4. Story

Theres not much into the game itself, but its Might and Magic... we all know the story.

5. Cash shop

Finaly its come to this. This is the part that can ruin a game no matter how good it is.
When it fisrt came out it was great, and it kept being great before the Heart of Nightmare expansion.
Believe it or not i made a smurf account and got from 0 to 1001 elo (people in 1k+ were considered to be the "pros" back in the old ranking system) using nothing but the starter deck and the few cards pack that you get from achievment just to prove wrong anyone who thought the game was pay to win.
BUT the Heart of Nightmare came out and while it providet some serious card balance it ruined everything. You just couldnt play on the same level as others without paying.
Once again alot has been done since then and the cash shop right now is fine. While yes if you pay for cards you will have more than the others but the drop is random so that doesnt guarantee that you'll get what you need.
So to the people that for some reason still say that the game is Pay to win (and ill caps that) NO ITS NOT!
I am curently a Champion 2 in the top 3 000 players without spending ANYTHING on the game.

Final Verdict - a solid 9/10
Theres a few more little thing that annoy me, but the game is a damn masterpiece.
If you like TGCs, its just a must play!

And heres a little bonus, using my referal link (or any referal link for that matter) you'll get 6 starter packs. I'd say thats a pretty good way to start.

This game is strongly starting to lean towards Pay To Win.. I decided to quit playing this game.
It doesn't have a thing to do wih Heartstone, I'm just unable to constantly keep up with new expansions and updates that completely change the balance; and then you have to spend many hours (and they hope money too) to update your decks to accomodate the changes..
And the changes are IMHO to the worse with every update :(
Six months ago I would probably recommend this game - not anymore, sorry.

Fun and highly-polished collectable card game with interesting mechanics, fast gameplay, tons of card variety, and cool card illustrations. Best of all, it's not pay-to-win!

Tip for new players who wanna try this out: Register with a referral code to get 6 starter packs for free, it will give you over 200 cards to start with and all 6 starting heroes for free - an immense help at starting your collection. My referral code is 4VNCCD or use this link below:
https://signup.duelofchampions.com/portal/in
dex/DOC_world_02_0010_06_200_12_0614_00?
refId=4VNCCD
Pros and cons:
Pros:
  • +Fun single player campaign missions that gives nice rewards like booster packs and gold to buy more packs
  • +Tons of cards to collect that can be easily unlocked by playing through the campaign
  • +Weekly 8 player rules-of-the-week tournaments and monthly jackpot tournaments
  • +Creatures, abilities, spells and heroes are set to the Might and Magic mythos
  • +Good music and awesome card illustrations
  • +Six factions to play that each have their own unique mechanics and lots of hero cards to choose from add a lot of variety and depth to the game
  • +It's not Hearthstone
Cons:
  • -Small community
  • -The competitive meta focuses on only a few cookie-cutter builds
  • -No "draft mode" yet that's similar to Hearthstone's Arena (though Ubisoft has said they are working on it)
  • -Need a Uplay account (you don't need to install Uplay - just a Uplay account; either register or use an account you already have)
  • -It's not Hearthstone

I really recommend this game to players wanting to get into a collectable card game without spending money to have fun; I also highly recommend this to card game players who want to try something more complex than Hearthstone.

A refined version of 'Magic' that is FASTER and EASIER to play. Very well balanced. A great card game. Just as good as ' 'Magic' but with less of a cheating AI. This game is great because it IS FREE to play and enjoy. You can build strong sets for all factions by playing the campaign withour paying a cent. I collected 1500 cards just through the rewards in the campaign, they are SO generous. I see on my friends list two guys WANT this game! LOL! It's FREE guys just download it! Gamers are crazy!

This game is engineered to be addictive - beware! You start out rather weak and want to get good cards. But there are thousands of them and so you either need to put in a lot of time or spend money. So you decide to play drafts and accumulate daily rewards to finally get enough to buy a box of cards. Then you buy the box and get a ton of junk and maybe one or two good cards that actually make it into your deck. Why did I waste so much time?

And then there's the game itself. It's pretty easy to get to a somewhat decent ranking. But then you get stuck. What happens is that there are several "broken" decks that are pretty much impossible to defeat unless you spend hundreds of hours playing or spending a lot of money. And sometimes the outcomes are pretty much random. Depending on what faction you are playing there are several other factions that will beat you nearly every time.

So combine the frustration of losses you can't do anything about with the frustration of putting in lots of effort for little reward and you realise that there are better uses of your time.

This is legitimately a fun online card game. It plays fairly quickly but there is enough variety in cards that deck building is pretty fun. The game has a free-to-play model, but the "only thing you get from spending money is the ability to collect rare cards more quickly.

The game has the basic card advantage, board control, and tempo mechanics you would expect from any Magic-like card game. The hooks for this game are:
  • that the board has a grid so that you have to position your monsters to block each other.
  • there is a front line and back line to the grid, so creatures can protect each other.
  • spells and effects hit locations on the grid, so positioning has a whole meta game to its self.
  • you play with a hero/commander card that changes how your deck plays and gives you special abilities.
  • you have three attributes (might=creatures, magic=spells, fortune=tactics) and you raise one each turn. Every card requires a certain level of at least one attribute. So if you want to play a 6 might creature on turn six, you will have to put off playing a 6 magic spell or 6 fortune tactic until late in the game.

The nice thing about this game is that you get 99% of your cards through random packs and about 1% through a special store that lets you pick any single card you want for a very rare currency you can't buy directly. There is no marketplace or website where everyone just buys the most powerful cards, so everyone has access to different cards (especially different rare cards) and almost no one has all the cards. This means everyone has a slightly different deck. It reminds of Magic before it got to the point where everyone just looks up the strongest deck lists online and buy the exact cards they need off Amazon or something.

If I were to compare it to Magic, I would say that there are fewer ways to win but the creature combat has more depth which mostly compensates for that. There are seven or so factions but you can't combine them with other factions. There are about seven schools of magic spell cards and you hero card will determine which one(s) you can use in your deck.

The way the game is set up, you get a lot of cards early on--you get free starter decks for each faction just by beating someone else playing that faction, and then you get a lot of the game's free currency to buy packs with from completing campaigns. You can get access to most of the common and uncommon cards that you will want fairly easily without spending money. The game tries to make money off you by selling you better packs with more rare, legendary, and heroic cards for money. However, you will get new cards for free pretty steadily until you play through all the campaign games with all seven factions, so that will give you plenty of time to decide if the game is worth spending real money. They also sell limited-edition alternate art packs for holidays and such.

For an "ex" Magic the Gathering / MTG / MTGO player this game was a treat. My girlfriend found this game after I couldn't play Ascension with her. It was FTP, has even matching, and the fact we were able to : GET CARDS, Turn those cards into other cards, and easily get cards per level....this game has it all.

If there were to be any problems with this game it would be these:
1. The chat and managing of a friends could be a lot smoother in game.
2. Being able to purchase cards for others and give them or trade cards would be nice, specially between accounts of a family.
3. And getting no XP/Gold for practice is fine, but that's the only way you can challenge someone. At least give me a certain amount of rounds against my friends as unranked matches. Overall the matchmaking too could be refined.

As an old MtG player and now online trade card games player, i recommend DoC as the best card game i've ever played.

I'll make this simple. I was an old school Magic The Gathering player but wanted something new to play without collecting the real cards and the storage space it requires to be serious about game. I've enjoyed playing it for about a year now and have recommended it to all my ex Magic The Gathering buddies. I've tried almost every online card game and this is the one I stuck with. It's free to play so give it a try decide for youself.

EDIT:
I see a lot of people in other reviews talking about the price of the game and thought I should address it in my review.
Before I read the other reviews, I didn't even think about the cost of the cards in the game.
Mostly because Magic The Gathering takes the grand prize for being expensive when you get serious about the game and this game is still cheaper to play.

The question you have to ask yourself is how much would you pay for a game that gets at least two major content updates a year if it was a blast to play?
Everyone has a different opinion of what that number is for them.
For me, I've looked at the issue two different ways and came to a positive result for each.
Compared to Magic The Gathering, it's a no brainer. It's a great game and less expensive.
Compared to an Xbox One title with downloadable content packs, it still comes out ahead since I've played the game for hundreds of hours and still enjoy playing it. In fun factor alone, I'm getting my money's worth.

Pretty fun CCG. I like it better than MTG because they're actually pretty generous with acquiring new cards and the game mechanic is pretty well done.

Great game, it's like Dota, or LOL in the way that they keep you coming back for more strategic possibilities. I see poeple complaining about seals, and what not, but dont listen. I'm lvl 120-ish(maybe 130 idk...). I haven't spent a dime, and have nearly every card. So, yeah it can be done. Great art, semi decent animations, good balance(not so much any more, but they do fix, and nerf). 9/10 all day.
