It's a super fun arcade rally racer. If you love rally racing, but sometimes want to be less serious then when playing Dirt or WRC Rally, and just want a bit of fun then give this a try. It complements the simulation style rally games rather nicely, and for the low price you are unlikely to regret your purchase.

It does have a few flaws however, not being able to remap keys is a big one, and it would also be nice if it had Steam cards/backgrounds/emoticons for those who would like to feature some Rally backgrounds on their Steam profile.

Overall a very solid arcade rally racer, but don't expect too much, after all its a 3,99€ game.

WRC Powerslide is a strange beast, a combination of the best of old school Colin McRae rally games and a multiplayer kart racer like Mario Kart or Sonic. While it excels at neither, there is still a lot of fun to be had here.

The single player element of the game consists of eight rally's from across the world each of 3 stages. To complete a rally you need to win all 3 stages in all 3 types of cars; WRC, Class 2 and Group N with a total of 50+ cars to unlock. The cars are from 2012 I believe and there are no obvious missing ones from Group N Lancers to Loeb's C4. While I can't place the exact game, many of the art assets are taken from an old Colin McRae game, the German, Greek and Italian locations are very, very familiar.

Each stage consists of 4 cars at the same time on same stage with various power-ups littered through out. Power-ups range from Nitrous, shields and smokescreens if you are in front to hailstorms and lightning bolts if you are not. The driving model has a definite arcade feel. You really never have to use the brakes, push the handbrake and throw the car at the corner, rinse repeat and if you even competent at racing games the campaign is very easy. The camera follows the car at a fairly high angle and lags a little from the steering input. Go round a tight hairpin and you can suddenly be heading towards the camera for a moment before the camera rights itself. This lag does take a while to get used to.

There are a few bugs in the game, cars mislabled and strange graphical glitches. The accident physics are a lttle out as well, sometimes a minor collision will result in multiple rolls and spins way beyond the energy of the crash.

There is also a multiplayer portion but sadly it is almost completely dead. The few games I did find were lag-fests and there was never 4 people online at the same time. The game uses it's own server and account system, maybe steam-works integration would improve the situation.

Even at the current full price of $3.99 there is a decent amount of fun to be had here and if you organise a group of four for multiplayer with voice comms instead of relying on randoms it would be a riot!

WRCP is an arcade racer made with the same engine, graphics and license of the mainstream WRC series, but with quite a different gameplay.
The only single-player mode available has you racing through 8 locations, each having 3 stages playable with any of the 3 car classes available: WRC, Class 2 and Class 3, the latter being the less powerful of the 3. Each class has lots of cars to choose from, but you have to unlock them before being able to, and the same applies to the stages.
You'll be racing with 3 other cars here, so there'll be 4 players driving at once in the same stage at the same time, and the aim of the game is to end first, with any mean necessary.
Ending 1st in a stage will earn you a gold medal and will unlock either another stage or a new car.

To win, the game allows you to do anything you want, like hitting your opponents as hard as you want to. Cars do not actually have real damage, though the game shows it happening, as parts of your car will detach from it and fly away when you hit or are being hit, but that doesn't impair your performance. WRCP also has bonuses spread over the tracks, which when collected, will give you some random power to use against your opponents. These are nicely thought and varied, and the game actually only give you a bonus that is worth for your actual position in the race, like the shield and turbo are given mostly when you're first, while bonuses that aims at hitting opponents ahead of you, and which will not do anything if they are behind, will not be given.

Racing is easy as this is an arcade game, but not baby-like easy, as even normal difficulty can give you problems beating the computer if you don't learn to race well enough. Fortunately, the game allows you to change difficulty at any time, without the need to restart the championship, and you can retry any stage as many times you want to without problems.

The game is fun, has good graphics, has multiplayer, allows you to upload your times to the leaderboards and it's very cheap, but then why I don't recommend it? Because eveything it does, it does it wrong.

The engine is the same as WRC but there you only race with 1 car and you have limited sight, while here you have 4 cars at the same time on screen and a very long distance of sight, and that pushes the limits of this, outdated, engine, and the result is terrible performance.
Of course you can lower details/resolution, but the graphics, although good, are not really modern and should run much better than it does, and anyway it seem to be related to some specific special effects, as some locations have worse performance than others. I can play it smooth, don't get me wrong, but some stage is stuttering bad and I'm sure it won't run as well as in my system on cheaper computers.

Another bad thing is controls. Obviously, the main part of any racing game is the gameplay and the control, and this game shows the worst here. It supports dinput devices as well as xinput but you can't reconfigure anything. You either play as they want you to, or you don't, and I can assure you that the dinput setup is completely messed up.

The single player mode is not bad but it's pointless. The only meaning of this mode is to unlock everything, maybe to be able to play online with the stuff you unlock but I can't report about it, and you'll know why later. They could have added some more SP modes because once you complete this, I don't think you'll play it again.
Also, cars unlocking is just plain stupid. You would expect the game unlocks better and better cars for each class, with increasing power, but it's not like that. It often unlocks a very powerful car, then for like 10 stages you only unlock worse ones, which you will never use as they all play the same and are just less powerful, meaning they wasted alot of 3d models there. :P
Also, because you only unlock cars after you earn a gold medal, the last 3 most powerful cars for each class are unlocked in the last stage, meaning you'll complete the game before getting to use them. You can certainly play again and choose those cars, but it sounds pointless to me.

You only have one view in the game, a bird's view, which might look cool on screenshots but actually is really bad, as often you can't see you car because it's behind some tree and the camera don't follow it instantly as it's a bit "lagged" behind, which is another stupid choice from the developers.

The topping is the multiplayer mode and the leaderboards, both of which requires you to register an account with Milestone's own system. This game uses Steamworks for worthless achievements, but not for leaderboards and MP...good idea eh?
The process is simple and fast, only that...it doesn't work. Yeah you've read it right. Like with ANY other game made by Milestone, MP/leaderboards never works. It sometimes does for some people, but it mostly don't, and you can read about player's complains everywhere on the internet and steam forums.
Milestone always say (the rare times they actually says something) that they are working on it to fix it asap, but I keep reading that sentence since the first WRC came out in 2010, and they never managed to fix anything.
In fact, they are known to be developers that releases games and then forget about them. They never release any patches, they never listen to customers, they never fix anything, they never been able to make their MP work. The rare times they released a patch for one of their games, it didn't work in most versions of the game and anyway it didin't fix what their customers asked them to fix.

I hate to say this as I'm Italian and they're one of the few mainstream developers we got here, but this is the truth: this is one of the worst developer around and you should not support them. If I didn't get this game for basically free with a bundle, I would have never bought anything from them.

+ The isometric camera gives a good overview
+ Powerups (even if they are lame)
+ Pick up and play arcade racing

- Requires friends/people to show its true potential; AI doesn't do it justice
- Unlocking stages isn't fun or rewarding and takes too long
- You play in the same type of levels way too often; needs more variety much sooner to keep it interesting

Tip: play Blur instead (if you can still get your hands on it)

Was not expecting this.

I think I first saw this game advertised a while ago, and assumed it was just a cheaper Rally game, designed for quick action etc etc. Did not expect half the fun this game provides.

OK, so this is more like Crash Bandicoot than Colin McRae 1.0....

You can:
  • Strike the leader with lighting
  • Cover other cars in snow storms
  • Raise a force field, and several other tricks

The tracks are very shiny and nice looking, visuals overall are great, the camera angle is good too, very little issue with that.

A couple down-sides:

Campaign is a bit ♥♥♥♥. Seems to be different tracks have 3 sectors, and you have 3 classes to complete for each... tedious, not really a season or campaign, just... weird, basically.

Multiplayer is possible, runs OK. Up to 4 at a time.

6/10. 8/10 if under $2.

Really good game, I bought it to play with my friends. Multiplayer mode is just fun ! Only annoying thing is you can not change keyboard controls, to use powerup you need to press enter and it is hard to that while you are driving with arrow keys. But if you are looking for a quick fun game to play with your friends, I totally recommend it.

Let's start by saying this is not the official WRC game, but you probably already guessed that :) If you're looking for a serious, sim like approach to WRC, there's WRC 4 FIA World Rally Championship, by the same developer. WRC Powerslide however, is a pure (top down) arcade racer with the actual licensed cars and teams from WRC. So don't expect any realistic physics. There are 8 events in total: Monte Carlo, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France, Mexico, Greece and Great Britain. Each event consists of 3 stages. You have to complete each stage with 3 different classes: WRC, Class 2 and Class 3. So that makes 9 stages per event. After every win you unlock a new team. You are not driving actual rally stages but are racing your opponents directly. There comes the first minor downside of the game; you are only racing against 3 opponents. So racing never gets really tense.
You pickup various powerups while racing, to use against your opponents, wich is actually very fun. The second downside of the game is that it is a bit too easy. You won't have much of a struggle to get in the lead. There's also multiplayer but this is quite dead. It isn't a game you play for months or even weeks. It's more a game you play in short bursts, until you complete it. This all may sound a bit negative. However, I do recommend it becasue of the little amount of money they ask for it. I think there's enough fun to be had and the game is definitely worth it's tiny price.

well, if u like mario kart u're going to enjoy this.

The game is fun, but starts to became boring after the first track, because each country has 3 "different" circuits, yeah the problem starts there, they aren't different, it's just the track in reverse mode! kinda sad about that!

It's a nice game to kill some time when u dont have nothing to do and u dont have your mouse with you to play your usual games!

The game is quite buggy, there are graphical glitches, mainly the displaying of water and smoke. The car is sometimes prone to jumping 25 feet into the air for no reason. Other reviews report system crashing and dodgy multiplayer, considering Steams, ’ you bought it tough luck policy’ you may be taking a risk buying a game that won’t even run for you. Saying that I have found multiplayer to work if you don’t mind restarting a few times, and in single player I have never had the computer freeze.

It’s actually a fun game with many annoying features that will leave you shouting at your screen. The power-ups are a great idea but unfairly implemented, why don’t the computer players get affected by your power-ups but all the comps ones are always aimed at you? The AI is also very basic, the comp with try and drive through you and constantly ram you if you are on their line. They can also spin you around really easily but you can’t do this back as they are stuck to the road like rocks. You have to race every track three times in a row as 3 different classes to proceed through the game which makes the game quite boring at times.

You get damaged but there is no damage meter of any kind and damage doesn’t seem to affect anything, you earn xp on multiplayer but this seems to disappear and doesn’t actually mean anything. Whenever I’ve played multiplayer the game lobby has no other players apart from me and who I’m playing so don’t expect to play any multiplayer with strangers.

The graphics are quite good but no amazing, the menus are spot on and some of the track graphics look really cool but then you’ll come up to some water that looks like 8bit graphics. The cars are also to a lower standard to the track which does stand out.

If you have £3.49 to waste on a game you’ll play for a couple of hours then it’s probably worth it. It does have the feel of a game you’d get free on a mobile phone really.

Brilliant idea, badly made and not properly tested.

One of the best "mini-racer-action" games I ever played. That game returns me to the good old "Motor Mash" ,awesome graphics & gameplay, there's a psysics too ,everything is just fine.

I'm not tested the multiplayer/network ,don't know is there any issues or not,but who cares, the single-player is fair enough for that small amount that you'll give for the game :)

Strongly recommend!

A surprising decent racing game! I was expecting this to be 5/10, given that it's made by the same developers that do the official WRC games. But Powerslide is actually quite fun with good design. The first thing you'll notice is just how great the graphics are. To say that this is an arcade title, the detail of the (real-life) stages embarass a lot of triple-A titles. The visual quality of the stages is fantastic, but the same can't be said about the car models. Although the lighting is OK, the textures are low-res (especially apparent when you flip your car). However, there is enough choice in cars and tracks, with each stage being around 3 minutes long. It does seem a little pointless having 14 cars in each of the three classes when most of them are the same car with different livery/driver, but given they have slightly different stats, it's excusable. The ability to turn on and off power-ups and adjustable difficulty are great features. Whether you want a party-style experience with collisions or a more serious test of skill, this game can offer that. It doesn't do much wrong, however there are some bugs at times. For instance, the game can crash randomly or when entering a race. I've also experienced the game repeatedly pausing itself at the start of a race too. The smoke powerup can also be incorrectly displayed and the framerate isn't as high as it should be. If you can overlook these issues, coupled with non-rebindable keys (although they're set to what you'd expect so not a big deal), WRC Powerslide is a good arcade racer which captures the sense of speed quite well with its brilliant camera angle.

This Game is as most Games in Steam should be:
-Cheap
-Funny
-Short

What more could you ask for? It´s that kind of game funny for playing about 10-20 hours with friends, and with easy achievements, just play for 20-30 hours and you´ll get them all for sure. Anyway, I would recommend to buy it with a friend, for there are not so many people in online and it´s especially funny to play against friends.

Guys who are rating this game negatively, what are you thinking in? It´s really cheap and it also appears in a bundle...
7/10 RECOMMENDED GAME

"Unfortunately it's not near any good, not even for 0.99cents."
WRC Powerslide feels like a very cheap&downgraded version of Milestone's WRC 4 title. The WRC cars feel like R(emote)C(ontrolled) cars - MicroMachines' feeling but way worse. This could have been a nice arcade offshoot of WRC 4, but it just is not! Click Next In Queue ;)

Pros:
+ very good graphics (for such a title)
+ fair amount of stages
+ multiplayer
+ ai bots
+ full X360 controller support

Cons:
- loveless
- very poor controls
- poor atmosphere
- poor sound
- poor camera movement
- clunky physx
- bugging ost
- only 3 different curve-types
- only 4 players
- WRC cars feel like RC racers
- just makes no fun

If you already own WRC 4 by Milestone you will feel pranked².
If you don't, you'll feel that this game should've been made for mobile phones&not for PC.

Maybe this game looks nice on the pictures, but its totally garbage. On my gtx660 its lagging so badly like a top fps maxed out in 4K. (My sys is ok, usually dont have performance issues with other games.)

Physics is terrible even for an arcade game.

Others wrote here the single part is the better. After that I didnt want to see the multi.

Got it from Humble for $1 with two other games - didnt worth the 33c. Its 2 Gb of waste.

I bought this game for about 70p I think, bargain. I find it really addictive and keep on coming back to play more. The graphics are really smooth, no glitches (i own a gtx670). Only problem I had was, I had to disable my 2nd monitor from the nvidia settings to play it, other than that, no problems. Anyway game play is fun, very arcade like but controls are good, easy to handle the cars. Would recommend at full price which is 3.49 at the moment. Oh should mention I havent tested out mulitplayer so not sure about that yet but even as a singler play game its worth the money.
