Now that I've finished the game, it's time for the review

Pros:
+Good gameplay
+Amazing soundtrack, the soundtrack is the best part of this game
+All the narative is rhymed
+Jaw-dropping art style

Cons:
-They should add voice for the narrative
-Uplay, it's not actually a cons, but why not using steam cloud instead uplay cloud

Overall 8.5/10
It's a lil bit short but I still like flying around looking at the art style and enjoying the soundtrack

Remember when you were younger? Your parents would tell you bedtime stories about magic, heroes, and princesses in a land far away. That fantasy was real and made you want to be the best you could be. This game requires you to tap into your inner child when impossibility was only improbability. The entire game is like bedtime story with magic adventures, epic battles, and music always remind you to view it not as reality, but as you wish things could've been from your childhood. Every line of dialogue makes you pulled in by its innocence. If you can find your childhood innocence this si the game for you.

What a pleasant surprise!

I was astonished at how lovely this game was. The gameplay was simple on the surface but intricate upon further investigation. The art is charming, as well as the story and all of the characters. At first I thought I would never use certain characters but found them very useful in the later game. The puzzles are very simple but flying just feels so fun!!

I have to say, wow, what a great game. This is a real 9/10 for me. I was kinda expecting it to be trash, but the musical score, the visuals, the gameplay and the story are all great. What a hidden gem. I loved it and I even cried a little at the end.

This is a definite replay game for me.

It took me quite a while to get around to playing Child of Light, but I'm glad I did. It's a beautiful game and it was nice to play something with a JRPG-like gameplay format, but with a more reasonable length.

That said, the battle system never really gelled with me. There's nothing egregiously wrong with it, just a lot of little nitpicks that add up. Primarily, you can only have 2 characters in battle at a time, I wish you could have 3, simply for variety and convenience sake. Needing to swap out a character just to cast a few buffs and then swap back in your damage dealer frequently became annoying. Beyond that the game places such an emphasis on elemental weakness that for 90% of the game I just used the same two characters who together could cast all spells needed to hit the weakness of most enemies. Half of the other party members are support characters that aren't useful except outside of boss battles. So this too, leads to a lack of variety in the battles. Lastly, the game has a mechanism by which you can interrupt enemy attacks and set them back on the turn timeline, but later game enemies and bosses punish you for doing this in different ways, rendering something that can generally only ever be used against you instead of for you.

As said, I still enjoyed the game in spite of my gripes with the battle system. It's still better than many actual JRPGs where 99% of the battles are mind-numbingly boring, but I felt with a few tweaks it could have been even better.

This game was not what I was expecting, in quite a positive way.
It seems like a platformer at a quick glance, but it's not. It's kind of a lazy platformer with a unique combat system. During combat, you can interupt the enemy while they are casting, and slow them down. The combat isn't that difficult early on, and it gets harder later on, but it's still very managable.
The story and the setting is very pretty. The land of Lemuria has very interesting inhabitants, full of vibrant colors. Everthing rhymes, to help keep with the fairytale theme.
The game is basically an interactive story, and it plays up to that theme very well.

If you want something different, I'd recommend this game. It'll probably take you 10-15 hours to beat. At $15, it's definitely a good price, and it will give you an experience that you are unfamiliar with.

Amazing story, art and soundtrack !
The gameplay never gets repetitive, requiring different team combinations and tactics against different enemies.
The puzzles however are very simple, but I didn't mind.
Exploration is rewarded with various items to enhance and customize your characters with.

The only complaint I have is you are forced to install Ubisoft's Uplay.
On the bright side, completing achievements on Uplay will let you redeem useful items (like potions or powerups) through the Uplay interface.

Additional notes:
I don't reccomend buying the costumes DLC, as there's a cutscene which gets totally ruined if you're wearing a different costume, in my opinion.
The DLC character is totally superfluous, it's basically a very slow tank, unlocked through a very short mission at the start of the game.

Such a waste of money. Wish I could delete it from my library because seeing it there makes me angry every time.

The writing is GOD AWFUL. I can't believe I actually heard good things about the writing in this game. It's practically unintelliglble. The so-called "rhymes" are so forced and awkward it's laughable.

Just wish I'd bought it when Steam had a return policy... Sigh.

This is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played or even seen. That goes for both visuals and soundtrack. The vector graphics are absolutely stunning. Each area is more beautiful than the last.

I'm not exactly an RPG connoisseur but the gameplay is also far more interesting than most RPGs, IMO. The battle timeline, inspired by some FF games, makes the combat far more engaging than just pressing the same button over and over for every battle. Your speed stats as well as the timing of your attacks actually matters, which is rare in a turn-based RPG.

The oooooooooonly complaint I have about this game is that it is not frame-rate independent (unless I'm missing some settings), so if you find that it is a very slow-moving game there's a good chance it is just lagging. The gameplay got about twice as fast when I decreased the resolution. I'm playing on a laptop though; if you have a good gaming computer you shouldn't have problems. And I HIGHLY recommend playing this on a good gaming computer if at all possible, because the visuals are so absolutely gorgeous.

I guess I have another semi-complaint and that is that the story is very simplistic and some of the characters are pretty forgettable. I especially dislike that there are not one but TWO clown sidekicks. But that is a very minor issue with an otherwise excellent game.

Pros:

+Beautiful Art
+Great turn based game play
+9 different party members
+The whole narrative is in rhymes (see con)
+No equipment to manage (see con)
+Has a new game + mode
+Beautiful ending credits song

Cons:

-Not fully voice overed
-The whole narrative is in rhymes (see pro)
-No equipment to manage (see pro)

Child of Light is a turn based RPG that's told in a rhyming narrative. The narrative is mildly witty and fun at times, but can get annoying. I liked it overall. The art style and graphics to this game was top notch and extremely beautiful! I loved seeing some of the backgrounds and caught myself just stopping to take it all in.

The difficultly wasn't too bad as long as you killed all the enemies you come across. There are no random battles and you can see all the enemies on the screen and you don't have to fight any of them, but strongly discourage this due to not being able to kill bosses. There wasn't any grinding for XP during my adventure. If you kill all the enemies they stay dead until you turn the game off. Once you turn the game off everything respawns. So, if you want to grind you can.

There is no equipment upgrades in this game. You don't have to worry about managing any loot. There are stones that you can acquire from monster loot and treasure chests throughout the game though. These stones allow you to customize your characters with minor stats IE: fire damage, water resistance, chance to crit, etc.

There are a total of 9 party members that you can play with, but only 2 usuable at any given time. Each has their own flavor of strategy. Some heal, some tank, some buff and some debuff. You can swap out whomever you like as many times as you like. It doesn't matter who is in the party all members gain experience in or out of battle. That was great and allowed me to use other party member combos however I liked. You have a tenth character named Igniculus you can use and he follows you around in and outside of battle.

Igniculus is a ball of light companion that helps solve puzzles and grabs items out of reach outside of battle. Inside of battle he is used to off-heal and slow down enemies. You can only choose one or the other on the fly. I normally chose to slow down the enemies. He can also be used in crowd control outside of battle too. You can CC every enemy in the game and while doing so you can simply just pass them up and not fight them. Great for times you just want to advance the story and not have to worry about getting into any battles.

There's a lot of status effects during combat. You can slow down enemies, speed up yours, add more armor and my favorite was the Unbreakable spell. This spell made it so you never get kicked out of order during combat. This imo was a must have spell and without it would had made the game quite a bit more challenging. There are healing and reviving spells also and I'd recommend grabbing one of the DLC's that has the healing spell. Yep, pretty stupid to have to buy DLC for a spell, but whatever I guess. That's Ubisoft for ya! :)

This game does require Uplay and I personnally don't have any problems with Uplay and doesn't effect my purchasing of any game. Not one time did the game mess up, crash or have any problems what so ever. So, don't let this bother you.

If you like games like Final Fantasy with some platforming and mild puzzle interaction this game is a must play. Taking me around 15 hours to beat at level 49 it was fantastic and the asking price of $15 is totally worth it. The game does go on sale a lot so grab it then if that's too steep. Would play again. 10/10. Recommended.

This is a real gem of a game!

As a light-weight RPG with tactical combat and including some light-weight platforming elements, this game is perfect for nearly any age and well-suited for the young who are exploring RPGs for the first time. The learning curve is low, characters easy to manage, and the entire game is controller-friendly. Combat is simplified by not having to choose weapons and armor, yet fun because the tactical element requires you to stay on your toes.

The mechanics of the game might be too easy for more experienced gamers, but there is a hard mode to make fights more challenging.

The story is an engaging fairy tale that is like playing through an interactive children's book. Aurora is a spunky and thoroughly likable main protagonist, wandering through the magical land of Lemuria trying to help its people and in the process trying to find her way back home (a palace in Austria) where her father, The Duke, has taken gravely ill.

What follows is an adventure full of danger and camaraderie. Aurora is predominantly a spell-caster but can hold her own in physical combat with her sword. Other NPCs that join the party fill out the roles of magician, healer, archer, buffer, tank, and crowd control. Each character has a skill tree with three branches that can advance abilities via points granted with leveling up. It's impossible to max out anyone's tree in the first play-through, so the player can exercise some control over what they want their characters to do best. There is also a simple crafting system that isn't too grindy and allows the use of gemstones to augment skills and stats.

The art and music are gorgeous. The violence is underplayed in keeping with the children's story theme. The length is perfect for the tale being told and never seems to drag. My recommendation is don't rush through. Stop and enjoy the scenery, and explore everything because there's lots of hidden treasures to find that help with crafting and battle.

As an added treat, a second person can grab a controller and play as Igniculus (a talking ball of light) who assists Aurora's group in battle, solves light-based puzzles, and can reach items that are not accessible otherwise. In solo, he is controlled by the other thumbstick.

This game has no Steam achievements, which is a shame. But that's because it's UPlay.

Rating: 8/10

I bought this game for my sister, but playing it is a pleasure, ATV scale similar to the Heroes of might and magic fifth, craft, tactical positio, secrets, for those who are not in need of a shooter and combat in real time, which reflect the following otsily several INSTANT step, this game will bring the sea of blissful feelings for the beautiful atmospheric music, and its history is quite possible you will find worthy of the highest awards. In short talented, made in poems game, in which the time spent will be granted to you from above (God).

A land missing its lost Queen. A lost girl missing her Mother. The Queen of the Night who has lost her way. Help Aurora on her quest to restore balance to Lemuria.

I wasn't expecting much when I purhcased this game. It was recommended by a friend and I picked it up fairly cheaply. Once I began playing I understood why it was recommended to me - I love fairy tales and fables. The game tells its story entirely in rhyme, or at least near rhyme in the case of one character who can't quite grasp the concept.

It might be an odd thing to bring up first but I assure you that the dialogue in game is an integral part as it draws you in and immerses you in the birghtly colored pastel and watercolor world of Lemuria. The combat is also quite well done, with a bit of an extra twist that you'll soon find almost second nature.

Pros
  • Beautiful water color art style, you'll find yourself just admiring the levels.
  • Engaging combat system, it'll keep you on your toes trying to balance attacking and defending.
  • Excellent music, perfectly captures the fairy tale theme.

Cons
  • You'll get 10 hours out of it if you explore every nook and cranny, otherwise it'll be a short game.
  • Requires Uplay connection to play.

If you can overlook requiring Uplay, this game is absolutely worth your time. Do your self a favor and pick it up at the next steam sale.

This game would be "Overwhelmingly Positive" if not for UPlay.

UPlay is just a one-time, 30 minute pain in the ♥♥♥ to start playing Ubisoft titles.
The rest of the negative reviews are people who don't like turned-based combat.
AND people who thought the story was cliche or boring.

It's a child's save-the-magical-land story. With art to match, and rhymes to match. I enjoyed this story considerably more than I ever thought I would.

My one complaint was that the skilltrees didn't feel dynamic enough to me, but they were still fulfilling.

GUYS! Guys. uPlay just had a major update yesterday.

I know, I'm still in shock. It took me over 24 hours to will myself to stop looking at it and write this.

What does this mean? Are we safe? Is the world going to survive this?

All I know is that the first time in, it asked me if I wanted to integrate Steam. I did. Now when I open one of their games, it just... opens. You know? Like-- Like it's supposed to? Like all the other games do? It shows a "synchronizing your save..." screen for a couple seconds (like the one Steam has) and then the game just... runs. All the uPlay crap is... gone ?????????????????????

What is happening???? I'm scared.

Child of Light is a beautiful game with great fantasy and great soundtrack. The art is too beautiful to be true for 10 bucks game. But unfortunately the game mechanism is too painful and lack of creativity. It's like ure gonna spend all of ur time to find the treasure and along the way u have to fight countless monster again and again till the end of the game but u will ALWAYS looks weak bcs its not balanced (the monster). I found it so painful that i dont even want to retry the game with a new difficulty or keep playing it after i finished the game. The story was good BUT it really lacks of explanation of what really happened on the game, in most of situation they just point out the problem and then the problem were resolved, and almost all of the dialogue is filled with boring poetry that u dont even bother to read it, the art is so so so so wonderful, stunning, eye catchy or (anything that describes amazing), but as i said the mechanism is too painful. I would still love to recommend this game bcs the art is really really really worth the pain and it is something that RPG player should experience. For me it's 8.5/10.

Child of Light narrate the story of a future princess that wish to save his father from his deadly lonelyness throught a long journey to a new world where she was sent away from her father.

The story, musics, voices and graphics make that game become a tantalizing work of art which will please teenagers and adults.

Fighting are subtles as you may have a lot of mechanisms to work with beginning witth your first partener a firefly. Your new partner will help you to slow down one ennemy or heal the wound of one of your partener at time using its own power. You will need the mouse? or the right controler stick to move him.

You'll then have a lot of friends to help you in your journey. All of them including you have their own skills, and a 3-branch skill tree to master. You can only use 2 character at time but can switch to another one when one of your ally is about to be ready.

Also during your quest you'll find some occuli shards, which after being crafted are stronger than before. Every occuli have its own power depending of the color and the size of it. An Occuli can be equipped to one of the three slots of each character. Finally Occulis have a different powers depending one which slot their are assigned.

The game difficulty can be set to normal or hard mode whenever you want. The hard mode make mostly bosses becoming real bosses as you'll need to be smarter than them. Some boss may be frustrating but preparing a strategy will help a lot to slay them all.

The game doesn't stop there. Indeed the game features some puzzles about a dozen where you need to use the help of your firefly friend or use some objects to interact with.

There is also a whole new world to discover revealing some 'confessions' which are the game's collectibles, star dust (item that can instantly increase one stat of any ally), treasure chests (that may have occuli shards or potions), quests givers (several), lots of foes and many healing plants.

I can only strongely recommend you that game if you love RPG games !

Perhaps one of the most frustrating mechanism of the game is the interuption feature. If your character is hit by a foe while casting a spell or only using a potion, he is interupted and pushed backward. But you can hope that the other ally will be hit or defend yourself waiting for the right time. You can also always rely on your firefly friend. So there is almost always a way to avoid that.
