I have played my first few runs of this game on expert but I was feeling a bit bored and just wanted to hear the music and story of the game another time. I am 1/3 of the way through on casual and it is the most relaxing feeling ever. If you like atmosphere, story and music this is the best game to just coast through...

Take the time to immerse yourself in this game and you will not be dissapointed

Child of Light Review

Child. Tuck yourself in bed
And let me tell a story
Of Lemuria, a long lost kingdom,
And a girl born for glory.

Child of Light is a RPG produced by Ubisoft Montreál, released in April of 2014. In this game you embark in a journey, playing as Aurora, a young princess whose soul is brought to the Kingdom of Lemuria. On this journey, you will have to recover the three sources of light and defeat the Black Queen in order to restore the Kingdom of Lemuria.

Aspects Of The Game:

• An exhillarating and tranquilizing mix of music.
• A beautifully executed simple story.
• Hand drawn art.
• A classic blend of RPG elements in a side scroller.
• Turn-based combat.
• Great side-characters.
• A delightful main lead.
• An agape world called Lemuria with alot of adventure.

Gameplay

In terms of gameplay it is a good game. The combat mechanics are pretty simple. However, you need to think your actions well in order to act in the best and fastest way as possible. At the start you will play solo, but with time you will find many interesting and strong allies which will help you, by forming a party of 2 characters during the battles. You also have a firefly as an ally, which you control with the mouse. A pretty interesting mechanic but it becomes pretty repetitive during the combats. Out of combat it is an simple 2D platform game, with some puzzles, traps and tons of hidden loot. Sadly, in terms of combat, the game becomes extremely repetitive in the second half of the game because at some point, excluding boss battles, you will repeat the same tactics over and over again since the variety of enemies is pretty low. It gets so repetitive that at some point, you will start avoiding your enemies instead of attacking them to earn experience. You also have a perk system, as expected in a RPG, which is also pretty simple, yet intuitive. There is also a gem system called Oculi, that gives you the chance to upgrade certain stats of your characters.

Story

The story in this game is told in an extremely simple way, yet that is part of the beauty of it. It is a very sad story with some unexpected plot twists, supported by excellent characters and good dialogues, except the fact that they always rhyme, something that really grinded my gears, especially during the second half of the game because the rhymes start to feel too forced. Apart from that, it is an excellent tale of the journey made by the protagonist Aurora, in her attempt to save the Kingdom of Lemuria.

Visuals

Visually this is an epic game. The game art is absolutely astonishing, it really gives life to this wonderful fantasy world. Everything as an immaculate aspect, it is hard not to like the artistic work made in this game. Another highlight is the fact that this game as the "feeling" that all was hand crafted, as if the game was drawn on a canvas. Really spectacular in this category.

Music and Sounds

The biggest strength in this game is the soundtrack. Absolutely amazing! It is hard to not be immersed in this awesome world with this wonderful combo of visuals and sounds. Simply astonishing. The sound and music gives the strength and energy you need to play this game, really inspirational.

Pros:

• Wonderful visuals
• Intuitive combat system
• Amazing soundtrack
• Beautiful story

Cons:

• Combat is repititive.
• Not much replay value.

Almost every aspect of Child of Light is amazing.I don't regret buying it.Really worth the money. It's a great work of art.

WOW. Beautiful art, lovely music, great sound-effects, excellent writing, detailed animation, awesome spell-effects, and... mechanics?! Yes! This game's combat actually has MECHANICS. If you don't know what I mean by 'mechanics', think Starcraft 2, or any other game that requires more than choice-selection-at-your-own-pace. (I'm playing "expert" and not "casual", so "casual" may exhibit different behavior.)

I knew... I had a feeling when I first saw the trailer for this game over a year ago, that I was going to like it. Circumstances arose, and even though I bought it almost 10 months ago I couldn't play it until now. And honestly, I think there was a reason for that. This game's overall aesthetic, tone, etc., are hitting me hard right now (in all the best ways).

Should you buy it? I can't answer that, but if you like the combat style of Final Fantasy 3/6, and are keen on the art, music, prose you see in the trailer, then I'd feel comfortable recommending it.

TL;DR: Buy it. Play it. Experience it.

I liked Child of Light a whole lot, especially because it's made through independent means. Loved the painterly art style of the game, but not a whole lot of replay value. Bought it because it was on sale, and the experience is definitely worth the price. Before you play it, though, make sure your computer can handle the graphics, because my old one sure lagged while playing it.

Child of Light is a really fantastic Turn-Based RPG.

The gameplay is fairly easy to grasp, with a very friendly learning curve and moderate difficulty. Its level design is good - using a standard, classic 2D side-scrolling affair. The paintings for its scenery are really quite beautiful, keeping your eyes interested in what's on screen and always curious to see what's next.

If you like 2D Turn Based RPGs, there's a lot to appreciate in Child of Light.

Dear child,

Tuck yourself in and listen to what I have to say.
It is for those too, who have doubts with Uplay.

When I first heard that a third party program needs to be installed,
I thought 'It's too much a bother to be buying this at all'.
But I was in love with the game as I was with Odin Sphere,
so I researched and researched until all doubts were clear.

It seems that Uplay has improved over the years,
as told by a friend whom I very love so dear.
After registering I instantly unravelled
that once I ticked 'auto login' it is never a hassle.
Switch Uplay to offline mode so it won’t meddle.

As confused as I was along the way,
thorough research finally made me pay
and playing this game now makes my day.

Child of Light is like a delightful bedtime story.
You play as a little girl, very cute and dandy,
though her arms are a little bit wobbly
to be carrying a sword both sharp and pointy.

What I really appreciate is the effort that they took
to make each and every sentence look so good.
The beautiful world of Lemuria will captivate your eyes,
with beautifully matched music as you zip through the sky.

Bottom line be told,
This game is made of gold.
I did not regret buying it a single bit,
and I’m writing this so that your path may be lit.

Godspeed.
