Before making your purchase, please do some research on this game before making the decision on adding this to your library. The game is being advertised as a Diablo 3 style game mixed in with a bit of Baldur's Gate, stated by the developer themselves. However this comes off as a complete lie, as the game shares no elements from either game and rather feels more like a lack luster Gauntlet Legends while on par with Sacred 3.
The gameplay is very slow and progression takes way too long.
Slowest ARPG I've played yet, a game that introduces a gimmick like Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, allowing you to switch characters from your main character class, to a demon who is currently possing you. Each character has their own vision of said stage your playing with their own monsters to fight and abilities to obtain. They can switch whenever, however, while fighting mobs. This makes for quiet possibly the most linear and brain dead puzzles the game has to offer.
Most ARPGs, when I'm 45 minutes in, I have loot, abilities, and an idea as to what my character may turn into. With games like Path of Exile, in 45 minutes I have several magic spells for my mage character, and loot that only my mage can wear, giving me an idea of what to expect as I continue with the game.
But with Shadow, you're still spamming the same normal attack over and over again and your 1 ability (with a skill tree branch that doesn't go anywhere), and loot progression works more like Gauntlet Legends for arcade than any other ARPG game. In fact, this game feels more "arcadeish" than any other ARPG I've played, and I'm talking about the bad aspects in that regards. This game feels more like Sacred 3 than anything else.
The story is shoved down your throat Daikatana style (yes that N64 shooter) as you progress through the game. If the lore fails to capture you, sadly the game just won't appeal to you since it's lacking in every other department.
The music selection from this game is actually taken from other game titles that didn't bother licensing their songs. I can't tell if this is just straight up shady or one of the laziest things I've heard (no pun intended).
If I had to give the award for worst game of 2014, it would no doubt be this title. Developers didn't seem to have a strong ideas to how to create this game as it lacks any element to allow this game to flow. No open world exploration. Lack luster towns, all pathways are all the same, linear path to follow, there's just no up side to this game.
If you're looking for an ARPG, please spend your money else where.
You may look at Path of Exile, which is free. And you may even pick Grim Dawn which is $5 cheaper and actually has more content than this game even though Grim Dawn is currently in a early access state (embarrassing to note, but it's true). Please avoid this game at all cost.
