After playing this game for more or less 50 hours, I have come to these conclusions.

2K has done a TERRIBLE job on their PC port of NBA 2K14. Though I know this may not be the next-gen port, this game still does not meet my personal expectations and feels worse as compared to previous titles and years of the NBA2K franchise.

Over the course of my playing time, I have experienced many frustrating issues with the game. Here are some of the examples.
1. Player stats are not consistent. How is it that MyPlayer, who has maxed out his stats, miss a wide open 3-point shot with no defenders, with the shot feedback showing A+ on Shot Selection and Excellent on Release? I dont know either. This major issue happens too often that I have resorted to give up on shooting the ball, and drive it in instead.

2. Opponents are too over-powered. Though this may sound like I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥, or suck at the game, but this is a major issue that I've felt playing NBA 2K14. The opposing team seems to have stats that are not accurate to their real-life counter-parts. How is it that a CENTER is able to intercept my bounce pass when he is not quick enough to react to it? Do you really think every player is aware of a pass and is able to react to it quickly enough to steal it? I don't think so. I have experienced countless possessions that ended up in turnovers because of the over-powered oppenents.
Another stat issue is with the speed. Do you really think that a center can outrun me? A 6'8 SF with 90 speed? Yeah, of course he can! (sarcasm)
The stats in the game are not realistic, and it gives players abilities they do not possess.

3. There seems to be an issue with ball control. For some reason, MyPlayer, who has maxed out his dribble attributes, can't keep the ball in his hands without having to pass it to some other player. Even with my stats maxed, there seems to be a way for my opponents to take the ball for me. No wonder I average 4 turnovers a game.

4. Association mode is terrible. That's just to make it simple. There seems to be no way for me to get a good running team that has over 80% of team chemistry without making one of the players the STAR role that they want, even if they don't perform like a star. I had a bench player who averages 2ppg asking for a starting spot. Really now? Like that's going to happen.

5. Too many false goaltending calls! I'm so ♥♥♥♥ed that 2K has made the goaltending calls more sensitive. I have been called for goaltending, even though I know for a fact that it is a clean and legit block. DUMB ♥♥♥ REFS!

6. Online is ♥♥♥♥.

I sadly regret getting this game for its full-price of $29.99. This game shouldn't even be worth $5. Terrible job 2K, if only ya'll cared about the PC players, then maybe more people will buy it.

I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this game.

I'm still going to play it though since it's the newest 2K title.

Hope I don't break my keyboard.

This game looks like it could be so much more than what it is. The game has tons of issues that 2k could of easily fixed but I feel like they just released this game on the PC then forgot about it and just watched the money flow in. If you want to buy this game you're better off just getting it on console, also if you want this game for online play there hasn't been any online fixes (the online function being nonexistant) since I've bought this game last winter and it seems that 2k doesn't want to bother fixing the online servers.

This game is so atrocious on pc, I don't know whether I should begin with th gameplay or how it just pedals its sponsors to the max.

The game just assumes you have a controller and that you're using it, and doesn't even bother to tell you the keyboard controls. It took me 30 minutes to figure out the shoot button. In MyCareer, if you ever pass to a teammate, they are so brain dead and just stand there. Fouls happen 7/10 times anyone goes for a layup, no matter how clean it looks. "Hey hey, you looked at him, shooting foul!". I've almost given up on passing completely, you have to select the person you pass to, and almost every time, right before you're about to pass, the game just says, "Here, pass to this guy in the middle of the other team where it will get stolen". MyCareer is just ridiculous at times, giving you impossible challenges, ex: If you're team is getting destroyed, it will give you the challenge to get your team within 5 points, which is impossible. Other times, it tells you to get a basket, a steal, a rebound, and an assist, and it always puts you on the bench.

The commentators don't shut up and repeat themselves every few minutes, and always interrupt time outs with stupid stats and other crap that delay your gametime. they always jump to some lady named "Doris Burke" who has the most painful voice ever. When Halftime comes, it throws the Sprint logo and says "AND NOW THE SPRINT HALFTIME REPORT PRESENTED BY SPRINT" and after you spam the enter button to just get it to go away it comes back with "THE SPRINT HALFTIME REPORT PRESENTED BY SPRINT" again. While you're playing, especially when playing the Heat, they always talk about how gatorade was in the Chalice of Jesus and is the liquid of the fountain of youth and how lebron drinks his gatorade every morning. Honestly they're so over-advertised I don't want to drink Gatorade anymore.

This game is just a headache on PC, get a PS4 and buy it for that, its so much better.

I litterally know nothing about Basketball but I did get to create the "Tune Squad" from the 1996 classic "Space Jam", it was fun for a few hours but i don't know if it was really worth it. I guess if you're a huge basketball fan you should get it but for the average gamer it's not a must have. You can make a team of Michael Jordan from every year of his career and that's fun and it also could be a good game if you wanted to learn the rules of basketball. One of the biggest draw backs is that you can't play against your friends with your custom teams, this would be fun as there is variety of different player, team and stadium mods. All in all it's a pretty good game.

Great game! Really enjoy the MyCareer mode where you play as your own player making your way up the ranks. It brings back fond memories of NFL 08 Superstar mode(The last NFL game for PC). The AI in this years edition is fantastic and really quite impressive. Haven't really played other game modes as MyCareer has kept me busy the whole time. Definitely recommend this game!

I may only have a few hours of gameplay on the Steam version of the game, but I have several years of experience with the 2k franchise as a whole.
Never on any other version of the game have I not been able to play the "story mode" of the game, which is the MyPlayer.
I played the 2nd MyPlayer game (1st NBA game, after the rookie showcase) and during the postgame press conference that you can't skip btw... the game froze my computer.
I rebooted and tried it again, and got the same result.
So it's clear I can't do anything but play franchise and regular games, since I hear the online is pretty broken.
I primarily play franchise on 2k anyways, but 1 of the few features in the game not being usable really makes me NOT RECOMMEND buying this game.
I got it at 75% off and I still feel I over payed for it because of the broken features in the game.

I bought this game due to Docm77
and thought about giving this game a chance...
because it seemed fun.

And it is pretty fun to play for about a week.
Before playing this game i haven't even touched basketball (never got the chance)
It's pretty obvious you have to get the ball into the other hoop...
But having to learn the controls from scratch is really exhilarating.
The game has xbox controller support.

I would recommend this game to people however,
this game wouldn't interest people unless they were a fan of Basketball.

The worst sports game ever released for PC. No, honestly. The AI is by far the most poorly programmed pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I have ever seen in a release from a major developer. The NBA should diversify the gaming rights or it should better manage its product. This is embarrassing for them. Screw 2K gaming.

I really enjoy series and this game because the core mechanics are solid...but it could be so much better. I mainly play MyCareer and not online.

AI needs work, for one thing. 80% of the time it feels like my teammates don't understand spacing and would just bunch up right next to the ball handler. When the other team doubles you, they either fall asleep or run right up to you asking for the ball instead of cutting or getting into a scoring position. Also, when I drive, Cs and PFs that are decent mid-range shooters just clog the paint instead of reacting, but when the CPU penetrates, their teammates know to gtfo.

Graphically, I was realy disappointed at how many subpar faces were still kept from last year's game. Even LeBron (he's on game's cover for crying out loud) looks off. Chris Bosh looks like a balding Chinese dude that been chasing the dragon for way too long. Thankfully, there are mods to help with this.

Another thing that I dislike is the removal of play practicing. What's the big idea? There seems to be almost no point in taking it out of the game. It feels like plays break too often in this game and without that feature, it's hard to know which ones actually work consistently.

Shooting feels really inconsistent this year too. More often than not "A+ Perfect Release" just doesn't fall. I understand people saying that it's more realistic this way, but if a shot doesn't go in then that means it's off, so is it actually perfect? I would have rather been told that I was late or early on the timing instead of seeing perfect shots clank.

Bumping on the perimeter is annoying, but I know why it's there. On the other hand, when I back out of a drive, I feel like the momentum is way too strong, and I get sucked into my defender anyway. Same with using screens from the wings for some reason. Another problem I have with momentum is that sprinting on user-controlled players starts too late because from my perspective, the CPU can start sprinting on a dime.

Off-ball movement is my least favorite aspect of this game. On offense, I'm constantly running into teammates who evidently have tree trunks for legs. I'm alright with my defender preventing me from moving around the court, but on defense, they slip by me wayyy to easily in comparison. Also, I don't like how running right next to your man when he's the ball handler makes your controlled player do a weird slippery roundabout move, and again, momentum while running around on defense in general is annoying to deal with.

Finally, the in-game presentation is as good as always, but I really really really really wish there was an option to turn off those unskippable stats screens. The UI is kind of a slog to get through too. Like, just with the team-select screen - with so many teams, it'd be nice to have an option for a grid layout like you'd see in a fighting game.

Anyway, despite all that, I still managed to play 400+ hours of it and keep most of my hair, so I guess that's a testament to how good the main gameplay is.

Now, before I get on with the "bashing" of this game, I want to say that I think steam really needs to put in maybe scores instead of just straight up "YES" and "NO's". This review would be a maybe, but I just can't recommend it with a "YES", because the game would disappoint anyone that expects the player behavior on the court to be even remotely realistic. Also, the controls really stink. :]

You know what basketball is, right? Well, this game tries to emulate it and sell it as a simulation, but I've never seen a real basketball game situation where 3 players are guarding the same guy... often, 2 of my computer controlled teammates will leave their defensive positions and start obstructing me while I'm guarding my own target, which leaves the area around my basket and 2 opposition players totally unguarded.
The player switching mechanic is just primitive, press A (360 control scheme) to switch/scroll! through your players, and maybe the game will pick a player you want to control in time to prevent the other team from scoring (right stick, 2K! Have you heard of it motherfu... well, yes you have, but I mean outside of your ridiculous menu). There is another way to switch players, but it's even harder to navigate, press RB (360 controls) and then press the button displayed above the head of the player you want to control (there is no way to do it in time to prevent the other team from scoring, and some of your players will often be out of view, along with the button prompt above their head, so it's worse than the A button solution).
The player physics feel really stiff, for example when you want to go for a quick counter-attack after stealing the ball, when you pass the ball to the player that's in front, the ball passing player first completely stops and then passes the ball, usually giving the opposition enough time to set up their defense. Another example (my favorite) is when you knock the ball out of the opposition player's hands, and it falls behind him, your player will often not pick up the ball, even though you are holding that direction with your controller (he just won't move for 1 - 2 seconds), and the same opposition player that lost the ball will recover, turn around and take the ball before you are able to. You can usually expect delayed response from your players from any directional inputs you give them, and I think it's because of the motion capture, this game takes it's physics and animations seriously, or at least it tries to, I had a few situations where the opposition players would go through me with their ball dribbling hand and score.
The game's menu is probably the worst menu I've ever had to navigate in any game, ever! I don't even know how to explain the way it works.
You can't turn off auto subs, the game's coach decides to take out LeBron "motherflippin" James and put in Andersen and there's nothing you can do to prevent it, the best you can do is wait till you have the ball again and reverse the stupid decisions made by the coach.

That would be all that's bad and horrible and inexcusable about this game, I think... (haven't touched the online modes, but I've read that you can't play against your friends unless the game graciously pits you against your friend while you both search for an online game at the same time).

The game can be fun when it's working, and it's a shame that so many issues are plaguing it (I'm not risking buying NBA 2K15 because of this, I don't care about the graphics, 2K14 still looks fine graphically IMO, so I don't feel the need to upgrade/update), and it's probably worth the money on a 75% off sale if you like arcadey sports games and don't care about NBA roster updates (or slightly, yes, just slightly worse graphics than the new game).

Score 6.5/10
