In short? This has quickly become an absolute favorite of mine. If you enjoyed the first GRID, had fun with the second, or didn't play either but just like racing games, this is a fine investment. It plays relatively similarly to the first, leaning slightly more towards simulation, but is still accessible enough as long as you generally treat the cars like cars, so with the heavily adjustable difficulty and wide range of game modes, if it looks good to you, you can find something to enjoy here.

The original GRID jumped around between many different racing disciplines, keeping things exciting as you could jump from open-wheel races to demolition derbies at will. GRID 2 was a more linear set of races; luckily, Autosport finds a middle-ground and divides the game into 5 main disciplines: Touring, Open-Wheel, Endurance, Tuner, and Street. Touring is basically classic bumper-to-bumper racing on circuits, Open Wheel is faster and more fragile, Endurance is night racing (in the single-player maps, at least) with time-accelerated tire wear, Tuner is a collection of extra modes like Time Attack and Drift with classic cars, and Street uses road courses and supercars. Outside of the single-player career, you can combine any car set with any tracks.

There's a pretty massive selection of tracks, thanks in no small part to, well, the vast majority being ports from GRID 1 and 2. Those games' globetrotting feel was often hampered by going back to the same locations again and again within the same tours, but with (the majority of) their rosters combined, repetition happens a lot less (though still a tad often in longer seasons). Normally, I find circuit racing a bit of a bore in terms of visuals, but all the courses here are rather beautiful, and visually interesting enough to be distinguishable.

I have bought a ton of racing games and played through a ton of career modes, so the structure of the single-player campaign struck me as a little odd; you're a driver for hire who picks a team contract and then works with that set of cars, sponsors, and teammates for the rest of the season, which is also a pre-set bundle of races (and between races, you can save and exit the season, returning to it later). Still, it feels pretty awesome to be the one they bring in to turn the tide; typically the contracts are from rival teams who pit you against whichever you didn't pick. In any case, these mean huge sets of events with points standings that run across them from beginning to end, which is hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's an intense battle, sometimes it just drags and you're slogging through more and more of the same thing. The GRID seasons definitely remedy this by hopping between all disciplines, but there's only three of them.

The actual classic GRID 1 sort of experience - buy your cars, customize them, make paint schemes, and so on - is actually moved to the online modes, weirdly. However, you don't have to play multiplayer to make use of these. Every week, it generates six new weekly challenges, mixing and matching car classes and tracks to make unique events that breath a little new life into the game on a regular basis. As such, it's the one game I come back to every single week. It doesn't penalize you for not showing up; it's entirely optional and extremely fun.

That's how I'd sum this up. Extremely fun. Despite anything else one might find fault with this, the handling is absolutely superb, the game is just forgiving enough to encourage genuine racing tactics without demolishing you for the slightest slip-up, and the massive amount of content makes absolutely no sacrifice of quality for quantity. This game makes my laptop run really, really hot, and I've gone the past few months with rather consistent burn marks on my legs because that's not gonna stop me from playing more of this. There is so, so much here that if you just want one racing game that will cover nearly everything, well... this is it. I can't recommend it enough.

One of the few realistic racing games compatible with Linux, GRID Autosport is a decent racing game. The AI is quite intense even on 'easy' difficulty, but the challenges are rewarding and the controls are quite responsive and intuitive. The small selection of maps can get somewhat repetitive however, but the online races make up for this.

A truly acceptable simcade racing game. Lots of fun with a controller and pretty solid with a wheel.

The game itself is ok, however I can not stress this enough, unless you are happy to risk your money on playing a game which requires a huge ammount of potential troubleshooting just to start, then this is NOT the game for you.

Best racing game to date. Well, except for Forza Horizon, but that is not on PC, well until Forza Horizon 3. So, to conclude, im looking for Forza Horizon 3. Forza Horizon 3 that is.
