''I Fink i 'ave wot dem Umies kall ''buyers remorse'' or Sumfin.. - Warboss Grizrak.''
I'll admit it, i purchased this game as soon as i saw it was 40k title if nothing else then to support the franchise (and orks are amazingly fun to play as in just about any game there in) but i really wish i put more time into researching this and if id known what i do now id of certainly spend my money on somthing more worthwhile.
Aside from the game being cheaper on the iOS store the game was developed by Eutechnyx, if the name sounds familiar take a look at a game called Ride to Hell Retribution, oh my are we already off to a good start! granted this game is nowhere near the atocity for the formentioned but WH40:SoV does maintain the companies reputation of rather lackluster titles.
Ingame 'cutscenes' if they can be called that use still images taken from the tabletop rulebooks rather then having an art team create origional illustrations and even go as far as to use sculpted parts from the table top game models as icons for the game (The Ork upgrades are a good example of this), Audio is present for the units if rather repetitive 9much like its gameplay) and are also absent from those still image cutscenes.. the game as a whole can best be discribed as 'lazy' and 'found wanting'.
You'd think with how rabid Games Workshop have been over the years to guard its intellectual property like a overly bloated and aggressive dog guards is favorate chewtoy they would take better care of who they allow to use there licence but apparently having there asses handed to them by the consumer losing 24% of there shares value this year alone has made GW all the more desperate, if this gets any more dare we may find them Selling off a tied and bound Matt Ward off to the linch mob with the biggest wallet!
Also why the hell would they have a company thats more renound for there racing games develop a Lane strategy game? there clearly out of there element, personally Id of made them work on and complete a racing game based on your old GorkaMorka game! the one that was going to be launched on the dreamcast but died with the system, then you'd actually have a decent game thats not only a gritty and violent version of Mario Kart but also allow Eutechnyx redeem themselves for such a shoddy track record.
The only way they could really make this any worse was if they added micro transactions so you can unlock new units and paintjobs for alternative space marine chapters and Ork Klans... Oh, nevermind, it's called DLC now... DLC for a game thats just been released can could use all the help it can get, and its behind a paywall with a game thats already overpriced for entry simply for being a PC port.
Shame on Games Workshop for having little care of there franchise to green light this, Shame on Eutechnyx just in general and shame on me for buying this game before doing the research or waiting for more reviews, dont make the same mistake i did, you want a good warhammer game? Dark Omen, Chaos Gate, The Dawn of War series, Hell even fire warrior you have so many options and better purchases to get your 40k fix, just not this.
