Aaah, Obscure. It was one of my favorite games back then for some reason, and even after all these years, I still enjoy it a lot.

Obscure is a third person survival horror game, and a pretty decent one. It's not the scariest game I've ever played, and it's not even close, but it's quite enjoyable on it's own level.

You get trapped inside of a school at night while you are looking for a missing friend. But "Evil" stuff roams the grounds, and it's up to you to survive.

In this game, you can weaken your shadow coated enemies using your flashlight, and then they will be rather weak, kinda like Alan Wake, but years before it. There are 5 playable characters, and if any of them dies during your game, he or she stays dead for good. In easy or normal mode, the game is rather easy, and even if you kill every enemy in your way, you'll still have lots of ammo. BUT, when you play on hard mode, it's got that good ol' survival horror feel, where you are actually trying to survive. You've got WAY less bullets than the enemies you'll encounter, and health items are rather scarce, too. It's hard, but not overly hard, it's still quite enjoyable, judging when and where you should use your healing items or ammo.

I didn't had any trouble with this port, aside from the incredibly awkward (before you get used to) keyboard controllers. (Yes, you can change 'em, and yes, it supports a controller, but I was way too lazy to change the inputs).

The graphics, even for a 2005 game, are pretty decent. The cutscenes are rather weird looking, but during the gamplay, they are enjoyable. The music of this game is also pretty good, even if there's only like 3 songs with countless remixes and stuff. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it)

The only downside about this game is, that even on hard difficulty, it's a pretty short game. You can finish it in less than 2 hours if you know where you're going, hell, perhaps even faster. I started a run on hard/special mode, and managed to go through the whole game in an hour and half.

It's definitely worth it, I would recommend this one if you are into old horror games. One thing, though....This game lacks the Sum 41 intro that made the old version kick ♥♥♥. That made me sad...9/10.

Great coop game. There are many bugs, and the silent hill style camera angle is annoying (learn the key to switch player focus), but its still a great couch game to play with your SO.

I'd like to preface by saying this is a decent little survival horror game for the price (especially if you catch it on sale) and I do reccomend it, but there's come complaints and obsevations I do have:

-No-one that worked on this thing as touched so much as a NERF gun, so we get awe-inspiring stupidity like a large revolver sharing ammo with a 9mm semi-auto and a double barrel shotgun with a pump-action, complete with ejection-port and mag-tube. Not to mention the "light grenade"

It streals all kinds of stuff from Resident Evil (not including the obvious part of being Survival Horror with a fixed camer and tank controls, of course)

-Monsters born of evil experiments on a plant

-One of the heroes looks like a young Leon S Kennedy

-Rips off the save system, but with with CDs that can be used anywhere in place of Ink Ribbons.

-Someone has noted skills in lock-picking

On a techinal level, it had no graphics settings aside from changing reslution and expects you adjust the brightness on your actual screen. Runs smooth and looks good other than that, though.

I don't trust metacritic at all anymore, many of my favorite games have a score less then 80. Some of the criitics were far too picky with this game, such as lowering the score due to the bad grapics. The graphics aren't that bad for a 2004 game, graphics don't make the game; gameplay does. This game definitely delivers in gameplay; the local multiplayer is very well done and makes this game loads of fun playing it with someone right next to you instead of over a mic. I wish there were more games with this king of local multiplayer. My only complaints about this game would be that the dialouge can be a bit cheesy at times and its pretty difficult at times, not impossible though. Overall this is a great game especially to play with friends.

i loved this game when i first played it on ps2.
now its on pc i bought even the second part of this title.
its original and the fixed camera angles bring me back to the old school horror games back when horror games were not action packed but damn creepy you never wanted to be in the main characters shoes.
this game brings a original storyline and the creepy feeling from RE back again.

not saying it better then RE but its better then most horror games now.
just remember its a old game so dont expect high graphics like i said its a game from the time of ps2
