Update launch date confirmed

To confirm the update now has a confirmed launch date, (yey!) next wednesday 5th November, this is due to a number of bug fixes highlighted from our kind beta testers and a fix for the spectator bug online that has been brought to our attention via the Steam community, where you would play online and be unable to take a shot - this is fixed in this update (or so it seems) but this did cause a few other issues that need vigorous testing.

We would not like to send it live tomorrow before the weekend, when the office is unmanned, we want to be on hand to support the update, should anything need our attention, so I hope you will all join us for a game on Wednesday :)

Those who want to get help beta test over the weekend please do get in touch the more the merrier - we really appreciate all your help.

Thanks again and Happy Halloween

Pool Nation Gets a Bumper Update!

You have probably heard rumours that we are planning an update (yey!!!!) I just wanted to post an official announcement that we are, it's true, and this update will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • The Box of Tricks - unlocked - our sandbox mode developed for the creation of trickshots, this is a workshop enabled feature and provides another element to the game of billiards. Add objects to the table, move your balls around and shoot them in the air! Do what you wish with our balls, in this mode, the more creative the better!

  • Reds and Yellows with UK rules - enough said! :)

  • Free Cam - so you can walk around the table

  • New mode icons to show which camera mode you are in to help with new free cam

  • You can now enter overhead when in free cam

  • New replay display that shows you your playback speed in a nicer way.

  • You can now hide the replay panel in replay mode.

  • Fix for incorrect reflection maps being used on cues/tables in certain locations.

  • Saved archive matches now omit the prepended 'archive_' from the file name when displayed.

  • Further fix to prevent non-gaming devices interfering with controls.

*this is just a breif list, a full changelog will be included with the update.

The update is going through the final stages of testing now, and all going well will be released next week!!!

Enjoy :)

“Yes, it’s a pool game, and you could argue that there’s not much more to say beyond that. But pool is a rare sight on the PC, unless it’s of the top-down Flash variety, and this is a bloody good example of the form. ‘Hole in one’, as they say at the Crucible.”
ROCK, PAPER, SHOTGUN

““In fact it could be the shiniest game to ever grace a console. Now as Pool Nation nears its North American debut, Cherry Pop Games shows that this is anything but a port to another console but rather an upgraded version that took everything that made the 360 version great and added even more.”
97/100 – Game Focus

““It’s easy to suggest that Pool Nation is the finest example of virtual pool... but to do CherryPop Games’ work justice it must be said that they have delivered what is in fact one of the best pool videogames ever to grace a console.””
95/100 – Bio Gamer Girl

“8-Ball - Corner Pocket”

‘Pool Nation’ is a fun, polished Billiards simulator and a bargain at its $1 pricetag (Steam Fall Sale 2014). Released as the maiden offering from Cherry Pop Games, it’s gorgeous visuals, multiple game modes, lengthy campaign and lots of unlockables will keep Pool fans coming back for more.

Campaign | Gameplay: Gamers have the choice of playing standard 8-ball or variations like 9-ball, Rotation, Endurance, Sudden Death etc across a variety of visually stunning locations / pool halls. A lengthy campaign mode (against AI opponents) allows you to perfect your game and strive toward numerous unlockables including new locations, pool table decals, new ball styles and cue styles. Additionally, the online mode allows you to match up with friends or other online players in single matches, Tournaments or King of the Hill events. Multiple difficulty levels (from Novice to Pro), a spot on physics engine, responsive controls, and a great soundtrack make this the best Pool game to date.

Flaws: In considering its biggest issues – 1. Game Stability is poor (Tabbing to windows results in an insta-crash) and 2. Online Gaming is largely dead (Bring your own friends). Additionally, the developers have pushed the previously promised ‘Trick Shot’ mode to the next release, and the lack of Co-op play is disappointing as well.

Overall, ‘Pool Nation’ is the best conception of a Billiards game to date and fans of the real game will find this a fun, polished distraction. But, even ardent fans soon realize that Pool without the smoky basement rooms, uneven cues, pitchers of beer, chatty girls, side-bets and bar-room trash talk, is a somewhat hollow experience. Recommended on Sale (Best played with Friends) - Rated (7/10)

If you are looking for a super realistic pool game, you are in the right place.

10/10 Physics
10/10 Display
10/10 Music
10/10 Game modes

Online match system is just super good, but sadly you rarely see people playing.

the only problem is that the table has a high friction, if you are a real-life pool player, you would expect balls to go a little bit further but they don't.

Addicting , Fun , Challenging, Beautiful, Multiplayer PC billiards. Highly recomend this game as Steam's top pool game. I got this game for a dollar and thats a steal.

Do yourself a favor guys and play on Champion difficulty for maximum experience. This makes trick shots still possible without having the guided lines to aim your shot. The game is just to easy on pro and normally see 5-7 pot streaks frequently. Aslo when you make shots you feel more of a sense of achievement.

anyhow BUY this game , im hooked!

I was reluctant to get this game despite many positive reviews because it is a billiards game and I play pool IRL too. Luckily, I got the discount item from one of my badge sets and was able to buy this game for $1.00.

It is the best dollar I have ever spent in my life. The physics is amazing and gameplay is very smooth. I tried out "endurance" first and before I realized it, a few hours went by >_>

As much as I enjoy this game so, I cannot recommend getting this game at full price because that would be hypocritical.. I do not buy games unless they are on sale :D

This game has online matches/tournaments, but I have not tried it yet.. Too busy jump, curve, kick shooting from across the table.

tl;d
I got this game for $1.00
Best billards game I have ever played (I don't know if that is saying much from what I've had experience with).
If you have any interest in pool table I would highly recommend this game.
Has online matches and tournaments.
Incredible trick shots.
Rating 9.5/10 (+2 Price, +3 Great Game, +2 Replayability, +1 Simple controls, +0.5 Smooth game (crashes if you try to change windows while fullscreen. don't know if its just me. Other than that I have had no problems with this game), +1 Great visuals and music)

Absolutely fantastic game.
The graphics are amazing, the music is quite good, and the gameplay is solid.
If I would have to complain about anything, is that the game crashes a bit too often.

This is, without a doubt, the only pool game on steam. That's okay, because if there were others they'd just be copying what Pool Nation's doing here. Spot on physics, more game modes than you've probably ever thought of and the prettiest, most polished balls since the time I got banned from the Bowling Alley.

94/100. Only cons are that the menus can be a pain to navigate and there's no snooker.

Depending on what you're looking for the single player campaigns are lacking. There are a lot of opponents but they felt very identical to play against. However, I wasn't working towards the challenges against each opponent and going for those could be fun, although they're usually pretty same-y (x match score, x-ball streak). Additionally, there are actual stand-alone challenges but of the few I played they were pretty boring. While they did break up gameplay when I found it necessary, the AI is so unpredictable that modes like speed challenge or 3 ball just aren't that much fun.

As a 8-Ball and 9-ball simulator, though, this game is pretty excellent. The physics work, there's a guiding shot marker to help you learn how to shoot better (this can also be turned off, or reduced) and the game is pretty. Pool Nations ia large step up from those crappy flash games.

Online play seems functional. At the very least I didn't have any issues with it. For online play there are a lot of interesting game modes past 8 and 9 ball including 3 ball, straight, rotation, speed, and killer. Of those I only tried killer (possibly speed in the campaign) and it was fun, though it felt more like a quick distraction between a few rounds of 8 ball.

So yes, I recommend this game. It's much, much better for me than driving down to the Pool Hall, especially when I can't guarantee I'll have anyone to play. This is something I needed in my life and it's nice to have, but I also recognize that it's probably not for everyone. I've only played a handful of times and only for a few hours total. It's definitely a pick up and play for a few rounds and then put it down for a few weeks kind of game, though that is exactly what I wanted.

Oh, and I guess there are features that haven't been implemented yet but are on their way like the box of tricks. That mode seems fairly interesting.

If you like Pool, you are going to like this. The physics alone are impressive, allowing you to put a spin on the cue ball to curve left, right, or even go backwards with a back spin. The Box of Tricks mode isn't in as of this writing but it should be availible soon. It's a great game to play if you just want to chill out, turn off the music and listen to music of your own.
