Reviews

“Yes, it’s a pool game, and you could argue that there’s not much more to say beyond that. But pool is a rare sight on the PC, unless it’s of the top-down Flash variety, and this is a bloody good example of the form. ‘Hole in one’, as they say at the Crucible.”
ROCK, PAPER, SHOTGUN

““In fact it could be the shiniest game to ever grace a console. Now as Pool Nation nears its North American debut, Cherry Pop Games shows that this is anything but a port to another console but rather an upgraded version that took everything that made the 360 version great and added even more.”
97/100 – Game Focus

““It’s easy to suggest that Pool Nation is the finest example of virtual pool... but to do CherryPop Games’ work justice it must be said that they have delivered what is in fact one of the best pool videogames ever to grace a console.””
95/100 – Bio Gamer Girl

Pool Nation is one of the most polished indie games of 2013- the animations are shiny and smooth, the gameplay is responsive and the physics are realistic. You won't find yourself screaming at this game for bouncing your balls in the wrong direction, or glitching out and dropping your cue ball through the table. With eleven game modes including tournaments, online play, and single-player endurance mode; as well as a slew of collectables to unlock, Pool Nation has no shortage of goodies to keep gameplay fresh.

The single player component revolves primarily around tournaments where you take on AI challengers of ever increasing difficulty. Each match has an associated list of challenges, and completing them unlocks a variety of cosmetic changes like cues and balls. Standard games like 9 ball are present along with more interesting options like Golf, which challenges you to put specific balls into specific pockets. There’s also a time attack style mode, where balls spawn on the table and you have to sink as many as possible in the time limit. There are Free Play, Versus, and Online modes present too, but I had a hard time finding anyone to challenge online.

Pool Nation is a great looking game that features bright and shiny graphics that makes each game, literally, feel new and different. There are some good themes on the game's soundtrack, and though the game's controls look difficult to use, they aren't difficult to learn. There are also options that can be easily turned on or off to give players assists in a game including arrows that point at the next balls that need to be hit or arrows that show where a ball will travel when hit. All of these features combine to make an excellent presentation for Pool Nation.

But is it fun? In short stints I definitely enjoyed playing the game, but it isn’t the type of thing I’d want to play for hours at a time. Having said that, I think Pool Nation is the kind of experience that would be a hit at a house party. If you’ve been searching far and wide for a Billiards simulator, and don’t have room for an actual table, Pool Nation is probably the solution. The physics are solid, the controls allow for extreme fine tuning of shots, and everything looks super shiny. A few more game types would be welcome, but for $10 Pool Nation is the gold standard in the category.

Actually a damn good pool simulator. This game gives you a lot of options to manipulate how you hit the ball, and it provides great tutorials to show you how to use each one. If you like hustling some pool then I would recommend this game.

Probably one of the most polished looking games on Steam right now.
Great physics, the controls are easy to pick up and the game contains tons of content for the price. The multiplayer is kinda dead but with a few friends it is still really fun. Unlike many other games on Steam, this game is optimized extremely well.

If you enjoy playing pool in real life, this is the game for you. Every trick you can do on a real pool table can be done within this game.

Some marks:

Physics - 10
Gameplay - 9
Graphics Performance - 10 (runs really smooth on my old laptop (2006) on high settings)
Graphics Visuals - 10 (the reflections are really nicely done)
Content - 9
Music - 9
Prize - 10 (Cheap, only €9.99 full prize, I got it on sale for €2.49 + you get a lot of content for it)

There really is no negative reviews this game should get. People buying it know exactly what the game is: billiards. It's not like there is at all any surprise. You don't get surprised that Taco Bell serves tacos so why would you be surprised a game called Pool Nation is anything but pool?

Overall I found it to be addictive fun. When I bought it, the game was at I'd say a dollar and it was the best thing I've ever bought with only one dollar (NOT EVEN TAX!) I could have bought gum or soda with that $1 but that won't last me and is not as enjoyable as something you can share in an online session with.

If you like or would want to learn about playing pool, this game is honestly the best (and only) pool game I know of. The only con is that because it is for the computer, the gameplay takes some time to get used to (whether you use the keyboard or a controller). However, the amount of time it takes you to learn how to play with buttons (versus using an actual pool stick) is time that you also gain experience and tips; so realistically you are not losing anything but gaining more than you pay for! Being taught how to play a sport (that can be used for real life) is so worth paying only a dollar for. McDonald's doesn't even have a dollar menu anymore; it's like $1.50. Though I was fortunate at the time and the game is back to its' original price, the pirce is $9.99 (NOT EVEN $10!!) so it's not too bad a price.

I SAY GET IT!!! But who am I to say? See for yourself. You won't be displeased.

+Physics: Way too realistic! :)
+Price: Cheap!!! :)
+Customizable: To some degree.
+ Music: Relaxing (If you are immature like me, I thought of porno background music).

Got this game on sale for $1.50, same damn price to play a REAL game of pool!!
Let me just say it's worth every dirty quarter you woulda slipped into that sexy-♥♥♥ pool table in real life.
If you are looking for the perfect pool (not-the-swimming-kind) experience... Look no further.
Pool Nation isn't only the best pool game I've ever played- it just might be the best GAME I've ever played! (aside from the darts minigame in Shenmue).

Do yourself (and your friends) a favor and buy this game.

AUDIO: Moody                                                    AESTHETIC: Beautiful
MEMORABILITY: Good                                      WORTH: Discounted

PROS: Solid pool simulator with reasonably-dependable multiplayer. Fun single-player tournament mode. Game has a fair amount of complexity not offered in other similar games allowing players to pull off cool shots.

CONS: Game has the tendency to occasionally glitch out. Planned features appear to be on an indefinite hiatus, and much-needed updates haven't happened. A bit tough to get a more advanced grasp on the controls. A lot of balls will fly off the table before you get a good feel for what will happen.

OVERALL: A fun game to share with friends, and it goes on sale for 1.00-2.00USD rather often. The game seems to have an active community, though it has been hard for me personally to get in touch with players I've reached out to. Hoping to see more updates.

As pool/snooker games go, I have not played one since "Jimmy Whites Whirlwind Snooker".

Graphics are a real treat, nice colour and detail close up.
Sound is fine.
The mouse controls can be a little sensitive and take some time to get used to but if you have a decent mouse I would suggest lowering the refresh rate or DPI count to help.

I also like the way each match has challenges within it, each worth a star and the challenge is to vary your play style to achieve all three stars per level.

good replay value.
