An enjoyable racer, but probably one that will upset a few die-hard NASCAR fans. It plays out somewhere between racer and demoltion derby. The AI seems pretty aggressive, but in most cases you just need to not cross in front of the rail they're running on. On balance, I've wrecked way more AI cars than the other way around - never deliberate, but they aren't tanks so you just need to know how to come off better in a collision. Pack racing is pretty tense, one mistake and you get left behind.

My initial thoughts were that the oval tracks would be boring, but there's enough variety in turn angles and bank angles that the tracks need to be driven in different ways. To be competitive, you really need to be able to tune your car's handling in pit lane so that you can spend as much time on the throttle as possible. Setups make the car feel different, and practice sessions are genuinely useful as you race to get the car set up to handle as well as possible.

Career mode is interesting enough, I'm spending all my money on R+D and plan to enter season 2 with a good bank balance and all the best tech so I can afford to put all the best gear in my car (you need to pay for parts every race) . I should be good enough then to start upping the difficulty and realism. I ran a test career previously, and all appears to carry over OK.

Plenty of glitches with the cockpit views, steering wheel obscures the dials and although you can pick a view with no steering wheel it defaults back to chase view every time you start a race or pit. TV cam view is better for racing as you can see other cars better. My preference is cockpit view with no HUD but the glitches make it annoying to set up all the time. TV cam less immersion but makes for better racing.

Red flags can bug out, sometimes there is a broken car left lying in the middle of the track for a whole race. Also sometimes all the cars drive dog slow during quali and it's impossible to post a good time. Multiplayer looks like it's limited to maybe 16 cars so I'm not interested. The game really needs 40+ cars to get the whole clautrophobic feel. Slipstreaming seems to work pretty well and slingshot moves are effective enough.

Nascar 14 is a very enjoyable game, though no racing game will ever beat Nascar Racing 2003 and since Papyrus and Siera went out of business games just havent been as good. for me though the glitches such as Mcdowell getting randomly flung out into the infeild i find very enjoyable its very smooth the driver standings are much more realistic when you are racing and its easier to see if you are about to lap Danica Patrick. though i would like the crashes to be more realistic such as blowovers i give this game a 8.9/10

Let me start by saying I'm a NASCAR lover. Have played every NASCAR sanctioned game since the mid late 90's. This game is pretty and the detail is very high BUT....the AI is almost impossible to deal with unless you turn it well below 50 % difficulty. It's like driving online with a room full of 10 year olds. All they do is wreck you. If you drive with a gamepad (windows 360 controller) switch the steering to the directional pad. The left and right sticks are impossible to use. I long for the days when Papyrus made the best PC racing games around. They released their last game in 2003. RIP Papyrus, you'll never be forgotten. Too bad Eutechnyx didn't make this game the way Papyrus mastered it.

NASCAR 14 is a glossy visually appealing console game designed for the casual gamer, not the hard core simulation gamer.

This was my first NASCAR game since NASCAR 4 (circa 2001) and, compared to NASCAR 4, calling NASCAR 14 a simulation is false advertising. NASCAR 14 is a game console port, designed to appeal to the casual gamer who wants to be a Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon from the start. NASCAR 14 has great graphics, fun racing and some spectacular replays, but........ if you want realism, go and get NASCAR 4. It is extremely unrealistic in terms of damage and pitting on cautions, I was treated to a replay and then the option to pit BY PRESSING A BUTTON (which I never got to work). No worrying about pit road speed or hitting your stall or about being blocked out by another pitting car. Also after accidents including flipping my car, I was able to remain competive and didn't even lose a lap!

If you want realism or an immersive environment, don't get this game.

Pros:
A career mode that implies you need to worry about sponsorship.
Great graphics
Nice music (NASCAR 4 had none)
Little skill required to play.
Ease of changing assists (i.e. it is not either all or nothing)

Cons
Career management is largely impotent due to very little impact to your finances even if you mess up your car on a practice session
Other drivers seem to be perfect and never crash. Sometimes bad things happen and sometimes you benefit and sometime you don't. In this game it is all in your hands
Little realism, no need to adjust your car to your driving preference. Go ahead and put all that weight on the front right tire, it won't blow at all! No need to spend time balancing your car to minimize tire wear while balancing it with the need for more speed.

Well, as a casual NASCAR fan and a video gaming racing fan, this game is pretty awesome.

For me, the game works like a charm, and it looks good. The only major problem is that the controls are a bit iffy

A lot of people say that there are bugs, but for me, there haven't been any problems. The game is great (a little unrealistic), like sending Denny Hamlin up into space causing the 44th caution. But, otherwise, this game is enjoyable.
9/10 Great game

I'm a NASCAR fan, and I like NASCAR 14, but knockout qualifying is a bit bad. Other then that it's a great game.

After more than 60 hours of gameplay, I can't say I don't like NASCAR '14. But sometimes I wonder if my enjoyment would be the same if I was not a NASCAR fan. The flaws of this game are many, some inherited from its predecessors (eg. IA), other new.

These are the flaws that bother me most when I play. Some of these bugs could be solved in the months of patch's beta testing, but it did not happen. I referred to ETX some of them on April, in the middle of the first beta test opened to the public, but they were promptly ignored.

Here they are.
  • Sometimes after a pit stop the volume of engine noise decreases, while it remains unchanged to crew chief and spotter. Very annoying.

  • In case of restart after a yellow flags and upon arrival at the finish line, the game often shows wrong positions. It fix them just after the arrival, but often it gives the feeling that something is wrong. Once I came back alone to the pits during a yellow flag and I was 4th; when I come out, the game shows I were in 8th position, but suddendly after the summary screen, at the restart I was again in 4th position... so I didn't lose any position. Impossible. Another time I went through the checkered flag and I was in 19th position, but in the final screen I was in 10th position. Magically I gained 9 positions.

  • The driver ranking before the Chase is shown without taking into account the new rules, that means simply to score.

  • In each race there are one or two drivers (usually no more) who have no need to perform refueling, unlike all the other. These drivers are able to make 80 laps at Richmond with a fuel consumption equal to 2x, without pitting. On the same track I can't do more than 48 laps without running out of fuel. The result is that the winner gets to finish with one or two laps on the second or third driver.

  • During the qualifying session, IA drivers seem to be much less stronger than in the race. As a result, the player often start from the front, even when the difficulty level is very high. The number of pole positions that are obtained in each season is statistically superior to 50%. Unrealistic.

  • IA almost never triggers accidents on the track, therefore the yellow flags are almost always caused by accidents where the player is involved. This reinforces the feeling that the IA drivers run on rails.

  • Often the AI does not seem to show awareness about the player's presence on the track. If you're on their way, they don't try to avoid contact in order not to damage their car and yours.

  • The damage model is totally unrealistic, even if set to maximum. With 75% of difficulty you can even win at Talladega with a damaged engine (I did it).

  • The front of Ford Fusion still lacks the ventilation grill, which was present in the 2013 version of the game, but inexplicably absent in '14.

    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=228427608
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=299559973
  • The pit stop sequence animations during qualifying is completely missing. Entering the pit lane the player can order to the team the changes he likes to apply to the car, but as soon as he comes at his pitch, he's thrown on the track with just a jump time. Even the pit stop sequence while in race appears to be incomplete.

  • There's no "Team Penske", but just "Penske Racing" of 2013 season (perhaps ETX forgot to update the name of this team).

  • The PC version interface still owns Xbox controller buttons. It's seems even impossible to hide the control panel while watching a replay (someone knows how to do that?).
Therefore, unlike I did with NTG 2013, I can't put a thumb on to this game. In fact, I can't recommend its purchase, as you have to really enjoy this sport to pass on to the many problems of it. With a little more care by ETX, this game deserved a nice promotion.

WAY better AI than the previous game. Better controls as well as knockout qualifying. The paint booth is a little difficult to figure out, but once you figure it out it's great. This is my favorite game for the pc, so try it, and if you like racing games, this is a game that will probably suit you well.

You can tell that the development team behind NASCAR ’14 has gotten completely to grips with the franchise. As the fourth release, it controls better and feels more polished right from the green flag. Aficionados will appreciate the depth of options while newcomers will be able to easily jump in and race if they make some simple adjustments to the difficulty. What’s more, it arrives right on time for the Daytona 500 and the start of the 2014 NASCAR season. The timing couldn’t be better.

This game it certainly improve a little bit, but still not enough to say "YES" to recommend this game. the graphic are much himproved from the last game, we don't have to pay any rip-off paint scheme DLC. The AI has improved just a little bit since now the AI when they go side way they can save themse, but They're still way too fast on restart, to aggresive when the're passing, and make mistake that a real nascar driver would make. one of the most dissapointed thing is that they copy all the track from last year to this year, when I look at the infield grass, the sponser and the name of the race are the exact same as the last game. Also the Commetator says the same thing as they did from the last track. But the most dissapointed thing about this game is the glitch are STILL THERE! When I hit the wall, sometime My car just crash, and bring out caution. same when you hit the apron. I really don't like how they put how many % the AI difficulty is. I don't think any race game do the AI Diffculty like this. And also I find it very annoyed that I have to adjusted differnt % of AI Diffculty every single track. But overall the game is pretty average. I still think eutechnyx should stop making Nascar game and maybe let other company like EA or to make a better nascar game.

New to the whole NASCAR series, have not bought one since 08 at least. May not be the most detailed racing game, but there's definitely more than "turn left sometimes".

I suddenly have a lot more respect for all drivers. Hard as hell to drive in a straight line with a 360 joystick, uneven turns and 14 degrees banking, not to mention 40 other cars putting their grill on your bumper.

I enjoyed it so far.

At this time I cannot recommend the game to anyone. The AI drivers will wreck you as soon as the race starts and there is no way of avoiding it. If the AI is fixed then I believe that it will be a fun game to play.

I've possibly never played a worse racing game. The AI seem to move at a completely different speed to the player, so oval racing is crazy. I start the race, then fall back through the field, until I'm off the back, then I finally get up to speed and begin to catch up. If I don't need to lift (Which means I can't afford to be cut off), I'll move to the front of the field, before going clear in a way that should be impossible in NASCAR, then just hang off the back of the pack so I can't cause a crash, which would lose me my laps lead. The game should be fun and exciting, instead, it's a torture test.

To be honest, I love the new NASCAR 14 game, it controls way better than NASCAR: The Game 2013, and it has a better interface. If you enjoyed 2013 you will definately like 14, the graphics looks amazing, it almost looks like it does on an HD T.V. Can say it looks as good as being to a real race cause I never been to one...but I would definately say this game is epic. 4 stars out of 5.

Having just bought this game after playing 20+ hours of NASCAR the Game 2013, I can confidently say that it was $20 well spent. First off, the graphics are a step up from the previous game. The only thing that I did not enjoy was how the menus were redone. They seemed to overuse the color red, as it appears in every menu. The design between this game and 2013 feels like the difference between iOS 7 and iOS 8, or Jelly Bean and Kit Kat/Lollipop. However, as stated before, there was way too much red for me to handle, in comparason to 2013's transparent menus. However, the gameplay easily makes up for the menus. The AI is 200X better in this game than 2013. Also, in 2013, everytime I would touch a car, I would spin and crash, but in 2014, I am able to easily recover (this may however be to assists I wasn't using in 2013).
Overall, its a great buy whether or not you like NASCAR, or have played any previous NASCAR games.
