This is a review of Sparkle 2 Evo. I have written this after completing the game and all achievements.
You explore three-dimensional levels by navigating along the X and Z axies and collecting colored orbs. Once you think you've got all the orbs you want on a layer, you can then go up or down layers. The colors of the orbs are very important because they influence your evolution. Although many of the evolutions seem to add only minor visual effects and slight stat bonuses, you can get special abilities and end up looking really cool.
No one is perfect, but the graphics here are spectacular. While not overwhelming, they definitely enhance the experience, from the awesome range of colors and enviroments in the game to the look of your... organism... thing... they really amazed me.
Even on my low-power computer (two cores, $100 video card, 2GB RAM), this ran very smoothly even with everything turned all the way up.
This has no online multiplayer, as far as I could tell. You could play against a bot or create more organisms, but the lack of real multiplayer was a real bummer. The achievements were fulfilling, but not too hard to get, just the way I personally like it.
I got sucked in to the game immediately. The sounds were soothing and enveloping, and coupled nicely with the graphics. This is one of the few games I would not want to play my own music instead of their music. It was really nice.
Honestly, you could replay the game, maybe go down a different path, but the levels are the same, and coupled with the lack of multiplayer and very straightforward gameplay it would be a grind.
Good game, it was a certainly a worthwjile $1 (I think I bought it while it was on sale) and probably a worthwhile use of $5. I had a very good time with it and I feel like it was less of a time-waster than other games, and more of an experience.
