When I bought this game, my expectations went a little high after reading the description and unconsciously I began expecting something pretty different from what the game actually is.

As soon as you start playing, the facts stated on the "Key Features" and "Reviews" (at the game's store page on Steam) vanish and fade away until you are left alone playing a not brilliant game that becomes quite boring and dull after a few minutes of gameplay.

The game lacks that special something that makes you keep on playing from start to finish with the same interest you have when buying and playing something new; I kept on playing only because of my obsesive disorder, so I had to finish the game to satisfy my obsesion, and not because of the game itself.

At the end, the only two things I liked about the game are: the cartoon-like visuals, and the fact that a soundtrack is included, but even the soundtrack is somewhat on the mediocre side, but I can't complain further since it comes on both Mp3 and FLAC.

PROS:
- Colourful cartoon-like graphics.
- Includes it's soundtrack in FLAC.

CONS:
- Gets boring pretty soon.
- Some enemies look lame.
- Lots of characters lack design.
- It's even worse than John Romero's Daikatana.

Apologies to the creators of this game, I can tell a lot of heart went into this, but alas, this falls far short of even my most forgiving of expectations...

I was looking for just an updated DOOM 1 type game, something reminiscent of HEXEN would have been epic, since their interfaces are all extremely dated.

The movement is clunky and the damage/combat interaction is not satisfying, it feels like I'm clicking on an HTML link rather than shooting projectiles.

I have no qualms with the environmental graphics, they were an enticing factor that led to my purchase. The NPC graphics felt off tho.

The worst part about this game has to be the audio. I feel like it was designed to be minimalistic, but instead it just got annoying rather quickly. Again I apologize to whoever put their energy into creating it, but I'm giving you an honest review and if I'm the only one who feels this way then great! No hard feelings!

All in all, it looks like I'll keep looking for that next Chex-Quest thrill.

Wrack is a game that is an homage to old school FPS games like Doom and Quake. The game is fast paced and action packed. The graphics are nice. And the levels are big, long, and challenging. It’s unfortunate that the developers are finished with Wrack and that the game is supposedly not getting any more updates or changes. The game only has 9 levels. The game does come with its own level editor/level creator, and it has Steam Workshop support, but it really needs more content. It’s also unfortunate that the game has no multiplayer whatsoever. It is a single player only game. Wrack is a game that would have been so much better if it had (online) multiplayer. It would also have been so much better if the game allowed the player to play randomly generated levels (in addition to the game’s main campaign). That would have been nice too. Wrack has its flaws and it could have been a lot better, but if you’re a fan of old school FPS games, you might like Wrack

I allways avoided to play this due to i hate cartoon/cellshade graphics + some features i didnt liked from description/video, but i gave it a chance this week after being so dissapointed by doom 4.

I thought this game is unpopular due to being oldshool with this silly visuals, but i was wrong.The game itself is where the big issue is.

The game controls are terrible with this acceleration on moving (accelerates to full speed too slowly) and the big mouse delay is unacceptable.
Especially for a game that tries to be oldschool.

I dont like combo/chain system in FPS, but i didnt see any "forced" feature in this regard like Bulletstorm (thats a good thing), other than disturbing UI pops up and the annoying bip-bip sound, there this feature is redundant i guess.Only gives u higher score in some cases and thats it.Kinda 50-50.

The design of enemies and AI is also too weak(maybe i havent seen enough, but thats my impression) and game has lot of arena sections too.

High moving speed alone doesnt make an FPS good or fun, its just 1 key element

The game has a mapeditor which is nice feature, but the basics of the game is wrong so I am not going to make any effort to do anything with it.( just to mention, i need to learn how to use it first)

Game maybe worth for kids who never played any FPS though, but even them gonna complain about the bad controls and input i think.
It has potential to be a good arcade game, but its not that yet.It doesnt feel right and has technical issues.
Considering how i dislike the graphics of wrack, doom 1/quake 1 is a no brainer for me to recommend over this game.They have "bad" graphics as well (they look better visually, but outdated) and some floaty movement, but they have no mouse delay and gameplay is even better too.
Good input and controls are must have "features".

To me it looks like they have put all their resources/effort into the graphics/story part of the game instead of general design of gameplay/controls.

Is this game good? Yea
Is it kinda of a Old-School Doom? More Old-School than the Reboot
Is it interesting? Heck Yea
Did you play it for long enough to actually say something about the game that nobody could think of? No
Is it any good ? It is great, fast paced, it's like a Ultimate Doom-HD
In all seriousness, I like the new Doom Reboot/Sequel/Prequel/Something, but what I'd call an actual modern Sequel to the great Doom of the '90 I'd say Wrack
Cool Music, Nice Weapons, Tons of Combos, Incredibly fast, Kinda Violent (not that much though).
It is a Sequel, made by another company, with another title, with another protagonist, another story, yadda yadda.
It truly is a Spiritual Successor to Doom
And I'd reccomend it

It's as if Doom with some of Quakes platforming had sex with Megaman and made this game.

Ok, if you miss old FPS shooters like Doom or Quake, buy this game right away. The levels are exactly like Doom with a Borderlands 2 shader.
The game gets harder after the first 10 minutes, and the combo killing feature makes you run like effin' Forrest Gump with a shotgun. You'll realize you don't even have time to get a decent screenshot because you can't stop shooting.

I'm happy I bought this. Really.

The closest experience you will get nowadays to the original Doom I/II. Takes all the good stuff from the classics of the mid 90s and adds a few things; some good, some bad.

GOOD

  • Fast paced movement. This is not a console FPS made for controllers.
  • Nice music and sfx, very reminiscent of Doom.
  • Map design (while not perfect) is good, levels are fun to explore with tons of secrets to find.
  • Lots of bosses, almost one per level. Each boss has different attack patterns.
  • Interesting graphics. You wouldn't get the feel of the old classics with a realistic style, so the cell shaded graphics are a nice solution.
  • High replayability thanks to speedrun and score attack modes. Also there's a map editor and workshop tools.
  • Chain combos. This is what makes the score attack mode very interesting. I was a bit skeptical when I heard Wrack had a combo system, but it actually works. Basically by chaining each kill fast after the previous kill we will get a combo bar to boost our points and if we get it high enough it allows for a finisher: a more powerful attack for whatever weapon we are using.

BAD

  • Needs more weapon variety. It has the core stuff every game should have (mele, pistol, shotgun, machine gun and rocket launcher) but other classics are missing, like the grenade launcher or the railgun... and where are the crazy weapons? where's the BFG?
  • WAY TOO MANY instant death hazards. In Doom lava pools didn't kill you instantly, most of the times you could get out alive, and walls crushing you was a rare occurrence. In Wrack there are a lot of instant death lava/elecricity pits, crushing walls and the worst offender: spiked balls around some corridors and rooms. In a game were you want to move fast all over the place, that ISN'T FUN.
  • Loading levels is very slow (20-25 seconds) and I had to disable some graphic options for the game to run as smoothly as it should. Game could use some extra optimization.
  • Minor stability problems. Maybe it's just me, but when loading a save on the last two levels of the game (7 and 8) some times the game crashed. Always happened while loading a game so in the end it's just a minor inconvenience.
  • Single slot save system. Is this PC gaming or what? Come on....
  • Short. Official content is just 1 episode (8+1 levels) and the user generated content in the workshop is not a lot. I get this is not a big studio, but in my opinion the game should have more content (levels, weapons, enemies...).

Would I recommend it? Yes, totally. It may have some flaws but most of them are minor stuff. Game is very enjoyable and worth every cent.

I feel like Wrack is a perfect tribute to what PC gaming was in the mid 90's. It has all the necessary ingredients:

* Fun
* Fast
* Difficult
* Replay Value
* Gameplay Depth

I would recommend getting this game for one of your younger siblings / cousins / friends who are curious as to what real FPS games were like before the triple AAA titles from Activision / EA dumbed down the genre.

In essence its a top notch FPS game that does everything right. I have thoroughly enjoyed it thus far. Easily 10/10

Now this is the kind of "Proper" old school corridor shooter with sprawling levels and a multitude of constant enemies I've been missing. The menu has FOV options and there are actually Quick save/load features by default (GASP!)

Was quite humorous so far, I cracked a smile at several of the loading screen 'tips' and the graphic novel style cutscenes are something I always enjoy.

This certainly scratches the itch that I've had for these types of old school 90's shooters that certain other reboots (Shadow Warrior) seemed to miss the point of entirely by turning them into 'painkiller' arena shooters instead; can't wait for this one to be done and out of beta ;)

This game is well on its way to becoming huge.

The map design so far (on 8 completed official levels) is by no means simplistic - high attention to detail and layout is clearly shown in increasingly large labyrinth-like levels, with expertly placed enemies and items.
The graphics are of a cartoony-like nature, and work really well with the rest of the game. Personally, I much prefer the Wrack-style textures to that of Borderlands (and we all know how successful that was!)
The AI, pretty average in intelligence, are well animated and immersive to play against. There are a few bugs here and there, but remember, this game is not finished! Don't be fooled how some enemies are easily killed near the beginning, or even how the hyperblade can one-hit most non-boss enemies, the game is NOT a walk in the park on the harder difficulties and will satisfy your gameplay desires!
Bobby Prince, who has made the soundtrack to Wrack (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong), has done a particularly marvellous job on the music for the game, that really compliments the overall enjoyment of Wrack. It's really easy to get into the swing of the game when high quality instrumentals accompany your race to The Hyperion Generator!
Wrack comes with a level editor as well. If you're like me, you may attempt making a map for five minutes and get confused. We could do with some more video tutorials, Brad! :)
The fact that Wrack has a level editor creates potential for a very close-knit community, which could produce many fantastic map packs, mods and god knows what else! There have already been a few releases, and I'm excited to say the least!

I highly recommend this game to anyone with the current price tag, as the game is being worked on by reliable developers and can only get better. Carnevil made the right decision leaving SkullTag to produce this masterpiece!

(Apologies for the excessive use of exclamation marks)

This game is like sex for my keyboard and mouse.

Great visuals, insanely satisfying combat, awesome map design, and a pretty nice story, not to mention the added replayability with workshop content. Definitely worth it for $15.
