Real World Racing Version Update 1.28 just released !

Hello everybody!

The Real World Racing Version Update 1.28 has just been released.

The main feature of this release is the addition of a Ghost Car in Arcade Time Trial mode for all the fastest lap junkies out there !

  • [Feature] Added Ghost car for Arcade Time Trial mode. During Time Trials a ghost car will automatically display when a local best time is available for every specific track and class. Please note that if you already have a best time recorded when this update occurs, a ghost car will not be displayed until you beat your previous best time, in order to ensure synchronization between ghost replay and recorded best time.
  • [Fix] More lenient Driving Licence success conditions for “Reach and come to a complete stop” objectives. There is now more tolerance to how much the car can move and still be considered still for the objective purposes.

I got this game in a bundle and decided to keep it because I had never tried a top-down racer, and the overhead camera reminded me a lot of the original Grand Theft Auto, which I played extensively as a child.

If you like challenging racing games, then you will enjoy this one.

The aesthetics are very nice - the environment looks lush and fresh, and the car models are decently detailed. There is no visible car damage, however, you do see sparks when you grind againt walls. You cn paint your car from a set of given colors, but there is no customization beyond that (aesthetics or car upgrades). The music and sounds are very good, and help contribute to that intense racing feel.

The controls are straighforward, however, I would advise you to use a controller if possible. While the keyboard controls are good, the action and gameplay feels much more responsive when you use a controller (especially if you decide to try out manual transmission). The career mode offers license tutorial levels, which are essential for getting you familiar with the control scheme. The learning curve is minimal to moderate, depending on your experience with racing games.

Overall, each vehicle operates slightly different - reflected by their stats - making each race feel like you're driving a unique car. To unlock more cars, you need to purchase them, and you earn money by performing well while driving (ex: money bonuses for executing drifts, and even more for performing perfect drifts). Bonus money rates are pretty fair, however, there will be a bit of grinding before you can afford that class S sports car. Once you become comfortable with the game, try playing with the higher class/tier vehicles, as the bonuses are multiplied as you move on to higher-end racers.

The AI is fairly challenging, if you make a big mistake (like being fishtailed into the wall), you may find it extremely difficult to catch up to the competition. With time and practice, this shouldn't be a problem, as you will learn to anticipate the twists and turns and how to compensate with proper drift techniques (influenced by which car you pick, of course). The race track will always have a green arrow trail to show you a decent driving route, and turns (and hazards) will always be indicated by non-intrusive pop ups in the middle of the screen.

If you are into racers, give this game a try. Both the career and arcade mode offer fun racing moments, and the overhead perspective changes things up if you are used to the behind-the-wheel (or third-person)perspective.

Recommend.

Cheers,

Top-down racing with a lot of twists and possibilities. Addictive, intense and fun.

I honestly don't know what's all the complaining about. Wanted to try this game for a long time, but since I'm always on a limited budget and have to prioritize, this game had to wait until it was made available on a bundle. I must admit I've should bought it before since this game is fun and delivers everything that you can expect from it.

Gameplay´s good, the controls respond and the car reacts to them pretty well. Some people say the backgrounds are a little unpolished, ok, but I usually don't have time to check them out while driving like a madman avoiding rivals, drifting long curves and trying not to get stuck between some old tires. Music and sound effects are good enough to round up a really nice product in my opinion.

On top of all this you have a large selection of cars, levels, races, game modes and so on. It's so addictive and fun that I've playing it for two days ignoring literally hundreds of other games in my queue; didn't even tried multiplayer because I had my hands full trying to reach the third tier of competition. Some objectives may be hard to attain but hey... What do you want? Walks in the park? This it's supposed to be Real World Racing, yo!

You should definitely pick up Real World Racing if you are into this kind of racing games – the single-player campaign alone is worth the price of admission.

Surprisingly technical for a top down racer. Has that european feel to it, like they actually care about racing. Full career mode too.

Simple but fun. Nice graphics, gameplay is fine. Get it while it's on sale. Pitfall: the first time I tried the game I entered arcade mode and didn't pay attention to anything (just wanted to take a quick look at it). The game seemed really difficult and I thought it was unbalanced (I did pretty good and only reached the 10th place out of 16 competitors). Later on, I realized there are different car classes and you should be careful on which one to pick up, taking into account cpu level (difficulty).
One more thing, I like the autorotating camera the most. It makes it more playable.

The game is fairly good for what you are buying. Some people are just extremely delusional and expect this to be an AAA racing game when in reality is an top-down racer Indie game that is sold for fairly cheap.

It has a good selection of cars, visually pleasing and yet challenging tracks, a career mode that has some difficulty in it.
Really, I don't know what else you could expect from a game of this tier.

I've been wanting to buy this game for a while but never could because I'm a broke ♥♥♥♥a, but I got it in a bundle and it's better than what I expected.

i got this as part of a jumble bundle, didn't expect much. I have to say, it's a LOT of fun - driving on the actual streets is kind of exciting, and i had no issues getting used to driving top-down (though the original GTA got me used to that). It's a really fun game (what i've played so far) and even at $10 would totally be worth it.

Worst "racing game" ever. Terrible control, no speed sensation and boring, really boring. I got it in bundle with other games for 1$ and I still feel like an idiot for getting it. You should get paid to play this game.

Until the game has been balanced, I will not recommend this game. It looks nice, the racing is okay, but a cripple that is trying to rope dance has more balance than this game. To make a long story short: on the one hand you have races/challenges that are far too easy, although it's kinda relaxing. On the other hand there are the impossible challenges.

Pros: nice graphics, fast-paced music, races are fun
Cons: AI is either stupid or unreasonable good, challenges are unbalanced

I'd rather see the devs work on the flaws, instead of making new content (DLCs). There are enough games today where the devs seem to have good ideas, but mediocre execution and an inability to improve the game.

This game makes me wonder: how do you mess up a top-down racing game this badly? The graphics are hideous - the cars are totally unidentifiable whilst racing, and the track textures are also very poor. Far too often, there are sections of the track where you cannot see your car at all, or there are walls that you cannot see. The engine noises are barely there and are bland, whilst the same nondescript background song constantly loops throughout the game. There are no real graphics options to speak of whatsoever, and the car physics are just woefully bad. The game is also really heavily unbalanced, and if you fall behind in a race, you have no way to catch up, even if you get every turn right and have the quickest car! The idea of this game was good, but it was so badly executed that, quite frankly, almost any other game in this genre would be better. You can buy Burnout Paradise for less than this... if you want an arcade racer with city racing, go and get that instead.

Came in expecting to love this since it's a cross between Micro Machines and Gran Turismo, but I didn't think I'd have such an issue with the visuals. They look great. Realistic even. Perhaps too much so, as it looks like Google satelite view imagery, and thats horrible for a top down perspective. I can't handle it. I'm constantly hitting walls and other stuff. This game is kind of a sensory overload for me and I can't play it. I need cartoony graphics when dealing with this kind of speed and camera angle. Really wish I could make even an ounce of progress in this, but no amount of practice is going to help me.

I love Racing games, bit this one is no fun at all.
Happy i got it in a cheap bundle, so not to bad at all.
But for guys who look for a game like micro machines, dont take this game.
Maps are nice, graphics not.
Physics and handling are crappy.

I dont like this game and i think i´ll delete and forget it^^

Edit:
I tried it for 3 hrs and wont change my mind.
Cars touch you, you spin and have to start over again - but when u try 2 spin an opponent, no chance!
Like they drive with nails in the road. totally unfair!!

Challenges are way to hard.

Again : not a funny game.

Really great idea, but it doesn't work well. The driving test missions are rediculously hard and playing the game is just punishment - it's near impossible to focus because of the busy environments. Very pretty, but not nice to play on. All in all it's very polished and very nice but some of us just can't get along with it at all and there's no difficulty settings so it's just a delete. Pity, really.

Don't waste your money! The computer cheats, your car is much slower and weaker than the AI cars even if you drive the same car.

I really dislike this game. It's incredibly hard, even on easy mode to get up with your rivals. The controlls don't feel nice and also my eyes start to hurt really fast because your car + the road + your rivals are pretty hard to follow.

2/10 because the concept is nice but it's worked out terribly.
