August 21 Update

Hi all,

Time for another update. This one has a new object called a Message Locator. It will be in the special objects in your warehouse, and looks like a speech bubble.
After placing one, use the Properties window to set a title and text to display when walking over it.
These will be good to use for one time messages, such as someone welcoming you to the city, or a notification like "You hear a strange sound."

In addition, we were able to remove a bunch of extra shaders that weren't needed anymore. This will make startup a lot faster, along with saving a lot of space on disk.

We fixed some white outlines that were appearing in the FPS players on the higher quality settings, so if you happened to lower your in game quality to avoid that, you can raise it again without fear.

The Asset Packager has been updated for Unity 5.4.0f3
This will get rid of a few annoying warnings that may have been popping up.

Enjoy

August 13, Update

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of updates in the last couple weeks. I was just married and was on honeymoon.

Anyway, this last update fixes a few of the assets in Battlemat that were having shader errors.

The AGF Scene Loader has been updated to work better with Unity version 5.4.0f3. We've also changed some code that was being made obsolete, so you won't get as many warnings in your console.

Lastly there was an issue with rotating assets before placing them. This has also been fixed.

Soon to come will be an update to the Asset Packager to get rid of obsolete code and make it work better with the new version of Unity.
Also, we are working on a new locator that will display a message to the player when touched.

Enjoy!

The Packaged Game is completely stand-alone, DRM FREE, and redistribution of users game(s) is encouraged. AGF Packager will make a game for the OS that it was packaged on. The AGF packaged games are NOT intended for resale. It’s about creating and sharing with all.

More Information on what AGFPRO is and what you can do with AGFPRO

  • Users are able to create game levels and maps using the software and also place characters (provided with the software) to play and explore their levels with multiple player style options (Action Role Playing, Platformer, FPS)

  • Just to be CLEAR – AGFPRO is NOT a game engine. It is literally made using the Unity game engine. AGFPRO is a real-time, RAPID Game Environment Development Toolkit and is made to be used in concert with Unity Free and Pro for level/map creation. – However, AGFPRO does NOT need Unity to run or create levels/maps.

  • The scene files that users create in AGFPRO “Basic” and “Premium” can be imported into Unity4 Free and Pro using our AGF/Unity tools.

  • By using the DLC we have already released for AGFPRO (Fantasy Side-Scroller, Zombie FPS, Drone Kombat, BattleMat Multiplayer & Voxel Sculp), users are able to create playable levels with AGFPRO (only – not viable with Unity) with a variety of characters, assets, gameplay mechanics and special feature, “Scene-Linking” to connect game levels

  • There are limitations to some asset packs “locked (L)” that limit the users from loading these assets into Unity. All unlocked asset packs are free of copyright and can be used via Unity for redistribution per the terms of the EULA http://ttp://media.wix.com/ugd/43457c_ee338ac5b4f644eb8b432518a8bb3d79.pdf

  • The redistribution or “sharing” of the games users are able to make using AGF and DLC “Players” is a feature we are working on at this time and will be made available to users at no additional fee

  • Users are also able to create and place specific game play mechanics that are provided in the software

  • Full customization of your levels and maps is possible with AGFPRO Premium and Unity Pro, whereby users are able to bring in their own assets and models to make their games unique and further commercialize, making a complete Stand-Alone game

Additional Questions RE: AGFPRO?

  • If you are interested in making a complete Stand-Alone game with unique characters, models, assets and game play mechanics not provided in AGFPRO and commercialize it for sale, you will need AGFPRO Premium and either Unity Free or Pro software

  • If you are a development team using AGFPRO + Premium, you will need one seat per team member using the software, but we do offer studio discounts, so be sure to contact us for special pricing

  • We have many schools all over the globe using AGFPRO to teach game development and design in the classroom, from middle schools to elite Colleges and Universities. We have a basic curriculum available that instructors are able to include in their course curriculum and we provide additional support that includes software updates, access to DLC, non-Steam versions of the software if necessary, user support and special feature integration upon request and based on the terms of the agreement. We offer special pricing for schools and we find that schools love using the software as it allows students the ability to create complete games within the limitation of a semester and is a great introduction to begin to interface with Unity3d, without users having to program, model, animate or script. Please contact Tammy McDonald at tammy@heavyh2o.com if you have specific questions or interest regarding AGFPRO's Educational License.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to just write a quick review of AGFPRO v3...so here we go.

It is really fun and easy to use...but to be honest I have mainly been doing the Zombie FPS making levels and those are LOTS of fun to do! You can read my review of that here: Zombie FPS

Ok so now back to AGF itself. Like ANY game making engine you will have to learn what and where everything is..i.e. the UI, buttons, dock, warehouse....ect. but once you learn that, things are very easy to do from what I have used of it so far. There are a good amount of "assets" to use to make your levels for what came with it. I do hope that the devs will add more assets/content to it, but perhaps you can do that with Unity assets, I haven't gotten that far yet, I am still stuck in Zombie-land right now.

AGF is a GREAT place to start if you have never made a game before, it will get you used to how things work in MOST game making engines and from what I have done in the FPS Zombie part of the game making, you make your level/s get it the way you like it and once you are ready you can have a "Game" made and have friend's play it on their computers. No models to make, no scripting, just place and play type of thing...for me that is a GREAT thing and this is a GREAT tool to do that with!

And the devs are updating often, I had a small problem and that was one of the things they put in the update (a couple of days later)...so they are around and they are listening ;)

I hope some/all of you will look into purchasing AGF and enjoy using it as much as I am right now...

HAVE FUN MAKING STUFF!!

~m

P.S. If you would like, you can play my very first zombie game made with AGF Zombie FPS here: Zombie Game

This review is for the AGFPRO + BattleMat DLC deal from the 3rd week August 2016, not for AGF as a modeling tool:

Viewport navigation, model placement, modifying maps and terraian, and editing object details are accomplished using mostly keyboard functions and a set of mode toggles -- and then are not turned off when editing text in a dialog. This makes it nearly impossible to use for setting up a campaign scenario. Forget trying to do this in realtime with players waiting on you.

I am not going to ask for a refund but i hope the auther uses the money to find or partner with a user experience expert and possibly a designer (in that order -- the product needs to be functional first).

Ok so.. before writing this review i decided to try this software again since i having this software on my steam account for over a year i was reading mixed reviews here so i forced myself to install it again and try it again before writing a bad review since from what i remember i agreed a lot with most of the bad reviews about it. i did feel like just a terrain editor. no gameplay editing or anything like that.. so i did install it and tried it and i gotta say somehow it seems like i missed a lot of things last time i tried it. editing maps seems like a lot easier then i remember it was. now i cant seem to find or if it is even possible to add/edit the actual gameplay/weapons i got from dlcs or anything like that and i got most if not all DLCs i got in a bundle, but it is safe to say it is a game creating software.. not one that is going to go on steam.. or make you tons of money (like i said as far as i can tell until now, no gameplay/weapon editing) but it is a game creating software by definition.. if you want to mess around with some map editors and create a game for some friends or your kids.. sure go head get it.. but i really cannot see anything making more then an hour of gameplay game with this software (again as far as i can tell) there are all kinds of mods that comes with the dlc.. but besides the terrain there seems to be not much of editing.

Does Not Work efficiently, hard to use takes hours to learn, using unity editor is way better and faster even with terrain and using custom models.

Potential buyers beware; this sofware is a bit of a money pit. All signs point to the continuation of the inclusion of useful new features as micro-DLC. Also keep in mind that the assets in most of the DLC are not meant for commercial use, making most of the content only suitable for hobbyists. This is also pretty tightly tied to the Unity ecosystem. You won't have much luck using anything you make with any other engine until they finally add in exporters to common formats (.dae, .fbx, .obj) and they may never do that.

Picked this up over a year ago, never got much use out of it because of persistent shader bugs on Linux for the two graphic cards I've used with it that have gone unfixed to this day. Their home-brewed DRM solution also seemed to cripple my copy of the software after the version 3 update due to a false positive. The devs refused to own up to this and instead continue to accuse me of pirating their DLC.

If you can get past all that and still feel interested in this, here are the main pros and cons from what I have seen so far.

Pros:
- Modestly fun terrain editing tools that are based around a novel grid setup you can raise and lover and brush the terrain to snap to it. Takes getting used to, but is well suited to the task.
- The terrain painting looks like it could be really useful, but due to the above mentioned shader bugs I haven't got much use out of this feature.
- The assets that came with premium looked fairly decent, if a bit generic. If you like cartoony low-poly stuff, then their art style will likely appeal to you.
- It often goes on sale. I know some friends of mine got it from sites like Bundle Stars for a lot less than I paid, with a few DLC included.
- Can't really think of anything else,

Cons:
- As mentioned, their customer support isn't all that great. If you happen to disagree with them, or have problems that they don't feel are worth their time to fix, don't expect it to end well.
- The controls are really clunky and I could never fully get used to them. I think it comes down to poor shortcut choices, but your mileage may vary.
- Map size is pretty limited and I haven't seen anything about plans to add in support for tiling any time soon. This is a bit of a deal breaker for me, but the space is probably plenty if you plan to have your world broken up into smaller maps with load points and barriers. I'm more interested in open-world designs though.
- They say this is a finished product, but there are still many missing features and most of them won't find their way into the basic version. Expect to need premium and continued DLC purchases if you hope to eventually have something resembling a full toolset here.
- Recent inclusion of pretty poorly designed extra DRM that seems to cripple your UI and may even blacklist your product keys preventing you from fixing the damage with a reinstall.

Overall I can't recommend this unless you are strictly a hobbyist who is fine with the fact that you will need to keep paying for this software on a regular basis in order to keep it useful and that it may eventually get permanently crippled by over-zealous DRM.

Game factory does not make games. It is a level / world design tool. A really good level / world design tool for Unity based games. You see everything in real time. You can play test your levels, run around and stuff, but its not a stand alone game game engine, just a level / world design tool. However, calling yourself Game Factory was slightly misleading, but whatever. On the forum, the developers hint at wanting to one day make it a stand alone game engine, but I'm not sure if its a hint or misleading. Since they call it Game Factory, I have to lean toward the potential of misleading here.

It is now a few months later and people are still asking if AGF is a game engine to make standalone games: http://♥♥♥♥♥.in/399649/annotated

You can make some really great looking, lush environments. The tools are easy, robust and look fantastic. The video tutorials are great and explain a lot, even if they could get sped up a little for more advanced users.

The problem is there is nothing out of the ordinary from the default Unity 3D level editor. So if you're already developing for Unity, why not just use Unity? This is still a better editor to make levels and it will take you less time to make better levels.

The DLC packs offer a lot of variety. The FPS add on offers lots of great features, but there are already a lot of great FPS level editors out there. Game Factory FPS DLC expedites level creation with prefab rooms ala the Elder Scrolls editor. Instead of having to make every wall like Source, Unreal and even the Doom 3 editor. With all that said, the DLC is not free. It is just another add on to buy when Unreal 4 and Cryengine have plenty of free examples for every type of game. Plus they're cheaper and they are stand alone engines.

Game Factory is worth it if you're a level designer for Unity, but to the average kid expecting to make a big game, nope. Look at actual game makers, Unity, Cryengine and Unreal Engine. As for Unity, its simple enough to pick up and design for, so this is a great benefit.

I have respect for the developers and respect for the tool, but I'm just warning people. It's not what you think it is.

Software is great! Love how easy it is to use! It's more of a Unity map maker than anything else though. And the Zombie DLC, sadly, can't be sold for commercial purposes. Either way, I simply love this software!

WARNING: THIS IS NOT A GAME ENGINE

It's awesome level & world design tool with a huge variety of already created environment objects.

  • Easy to use
  • Realtime testing
  • Compatible with Unity Free
  • Updates & support

This is the best tool ever made for game developers.

EDIT: This is a more updated review than my previous one.

I've used AGF for a while now and I have a lot more experience using the tools. I like the accessiblity of this program, as it is quick and easy to make complex landscapes and basic buildings and structures. They have also greatly increased the amount of different terrain textures and objects that you can place into your world. If you want to make anything fantasy medieval, there are plenty of objects and prebuilt buildings for you to use. I have yet to check out the added DLC, but it is still a great tool regardless. Personally, I only use the tool to make the terrain and put in buildings, then I just export it to Unity 3D and it usually works ok. The only problem can be when they update the program, you have to put in the new exporter tools into a new Unity project. Other than that, it is a great tool for both beginners and the more experienced.

I've been dabbling with Unity for close to year and have tossed a lot of $$$ on the asset store - a significant percentage on terrain assets and tools. Had I known about the capability of AGF, I could have saved a lot of money. Simply put, this tool takes one of the biggest headaches out of Unity: that of sculpting realistic-looking terrains. I have spent countless hours on creating, deleting and re-creating outdoor environments in Unity. AGF makes it easier than pie. The asset base is not very big yet, but for me, that is not a problem. I need AGF to build my base terrain on, sort out my vegetation, my lighting, better-looking fog effects, etc. Once happy, I can import my scene into Unity and add the rest of my prefabs to it.

This tool is a timesaver and for someone who constantly nit-picks over silly stuff like 'that mountain just does not look right!', AGF helps a lot. The developers are active in responding and assisting with issues and I really appreciate that. I certainly look forward to seeing how this product further develops and recommend the investment for anyone looking for an edge in their terrain creation.

(And yes, AGF can now do a lot of other scene activities, but I can only talk about what I’ve been using this tool for :) )

This is a Level creation Tool, that being said it's easy to use , not that expensive for the Basic pack. If you are looking for a tool that makes all aspects of a game, this is not it. not to say this is a bad piece of software. I found it easy to use and with out things getting overly complicated.

I do not recommend this program if you are only going to buy the basic version. This program was made in a way you have to buy the Premium version. Let me explain:
-You can't buy the premium. You have to buy the normal version first and then the premium, that's not even the worst.
-> in the basic version there is nearly nothing you can do with exception of walking around on your terrain which took you a few minutes to build because you only have 10% resources from the Premium version to build a terrain because you didn't buy the Premium add on.
Without the Premium version I wouldn't recommend it to you. If you want to buy the Premium add on anway, go ahead.
-Thumbs down -> 20Euro for only 10% recources you can use.

Basic (10%) Premium(90%)

No hate, just facts.
-Pat

TL;DR: You cannot create your own gameplay. If you're completely new to game design, AGFPro is a nice starter package, but you'll have to learn to use something else to really create your own games.
If you're already familiar with using a game engine like Unity3D, you won't need AGFPro, but maybe you'll like it. I personally didn't.

When I first had a look into Axis Game Factory, I had a negative feeling about the whole thing. As I looked a little more into it recently, I found out that most of my problems were because of its presentation.

To start with this first: Like others stated already, the term "Game Factory" can be confusing. Unlinke Unity3D, the tool this tool was made with, you cannot create your own games with it.

What you CAN do is create Landscapes with a lot of ready-to-go assets. Buildings, textures for your terrain, extra shaders, everything there. The editor also comes with some features that may or may not make level design easier or faster than with Unity. When you're done, you either put one of the AGFPro Players into your level and play around a bit, or you import your level to Unity3D, where you can build a game upon what you designed. This feature was in beta while I tested it and crashed while importing.
But right here's another positive thing: The developer is constantly trying to improve this tool.

I personally couldn't really warm up to Axis Game Factory. I'm able to do pretty much I can do with it in Unity, and with that I don't need a second tool for level design. Also, the UI of AGFPro felt unintuitive to me, but that's subjective as well.

If you're able to use Unity or something alike, I don't recommend this tool, since I didn't see much use in the features that it adds to what Unity already gives you, or is available for Unity.
Maybe, for you, it's different, so you might want to take a look anyway.
Also, I do think that beginners with no experience with other tools can get a nice starter package here to have a first look into level design and if creating games could be something for them.
Just keep in mind that, to make your own game idea reality, you WILL have to learn to use another tool.

EVERYONE SAYING "YOU CANT MAKE A FULL GAME WITH THIS", THIS IS A LEVEL/MAP CREATOR FOR UNITY.

Some people have been giving this awesome piece of software negative reviews because they did not pay attention to what they were actually buying. This is not a GAME ENGINE. This is an amazing tool for developers and hobbyists who want to create detailed and neat looking maps/levels in no time. After you've created the levels for your game, you can then port them to Unity to make a FULL GAME.

+ Lots and lots of free assets, textures and models to use
+ Great graphics
+ Very detailed and easy level creation
+ Extremely kind and caring devs who actually take time to reply to people in the discussions when a user has problems/questions
+ Nice content updates

If you're interested in making a game with Unity, this is A MUST HAVE tool. It makes game creation with Unity much much easier and faster.
