Über dieses Spiel

Set in Wild West, FESTER MUDD: CURSE OF THE GOLD is a three-part comic saga of exploration, reunion, and redemption...and a love letter to the classic adventure games of the 90s!

Roused from a life of sloth to reunite with his long-lost brother in search of unimaginable riches, reluctant hero Fester Mudd somehow manages to be intrepid but cowardly, ambitious yet lazy, dimwitted but brilliant.

In Episode 1, Fester hits the trail to join his brother, Bud, in the downtrodden town of Loamsmouth. But when Bud is found to have mysteriously vanished, Fester realizes that the journey will be far longer and more treacherous than he bargained for...and he must enlist the aid of an experienced gunslinger to help him make his way through Indian territory to track down both his missing brother and the gold that awaits them both!

But gunslingers don't come cheap...and Fester must find a way to convince him to join him on the perilous quest.

This Episode sees Fester exploring Loamsmouth and surrounding territories. Along the way, he'll meet and deal with an assortment of Old West roughnecks, flim-flammers, and other larger-than-life characters...and give adventure game fans a huge blast from the past!

IMPORTANT: The development of Fester Mudd games has been cancelled, and this episode is the only one available. Please note that it was designed to be part of a trilogy, and you will not experience the full story as the other two episodes won’t become available. The developer sincerely wishes to thank everyone who played and supported the journey of Fester Mudd.

The game opens with this statement: "This game is a tribute to the golden era of adventure gaming." I believe it hits the mark, for better and for worse. The "point-and-click" adventure games of the past would be considered difficult and boring by today's standards. Modern gamers probably won't enjoy stepping back in time to play a game requiring a fair amount of patience and critical thinking. But if you remember those days long past with a warm and fuzzy nostalgia, then I don't think you'll be disappointed by this short trip down memory lane. I say "short" because it is only an episode. (The developers did not profit enough to make any more, which I think is unfortunate.) I finished it in roughly 3.5 hours, which is longer than others, but I enjoy exploring every dialogue tree and trying silly things to see what I can make the main character do. While the main character isn't very identifiable, every character is memorable and nobody is a throw-away. I only wish I could hear them speak. The music and pixel art is fitting as a tribute game, though I wish there were a few more close-ups and cut-aways. The puzzles are very well balanced in terms of difficulty, which is no small feat for this genre. I got stuck, but I never felt as though I had nothing to do. I'd simply switch puzzles or try other ideas. I think I stumbled upon a solution or two before I encountered the corresponding problem, but that's forgivable in my book. The very last puzzle was frustrating, but maybe that's fair since it should be the most difficult of the game. The humor ranges from cliché to lough-out-loud (I had several of these moments). There aren't any game-breaking bugs, but I did experience a little glitch where everything blacked out for a moment. Overall, I think it's fun, and worth its sale price. Too bad there weren't any more episodes made; I'd have bought them on sale too.

Caution: There's lots of swearing, which may surprise you since it has a cartoony art style.

Okay, so this will forever remain an Episode 1, as the rest of the episodes have been cancelled. And the game takes less than two hours to be completed. So whether the price is fair is up to you.

That said, it is a solid old-school point & click, full of flatulence jokes, pixely art and surprisingly logical (albeit in a LucasArts way) puzzles. The story is fittingly wacky, the humor fittingly silly, and for once actually finding the achievements is entertaining. It's one of the few point&clicks I've played lately that actually gets the "old-school charm" label right: it's old-fashioned, childish, fun, but not frustrating for a modern audience. As tributes to classic adventure games go, this one gets everything right. Also a great game to play with children, if you're okay with a few cartoony sceletons and a guy stabbed in the back in a saloon. ;)

All in all it's a very enjoyable way to spend a few hours. I'd be interested to see more from the developer.

This is a great game!
Reminds me of the good old days playing monkey island, indiana jones, loom etc.
It's very enjoyable, puzzles are not too difficult, dialogues are funny.
Only downside is that it's very short and I believe there wasn't any funding for part 2, so I'll never find out how it ends. :(
Kickstarter maybe?

A good short point n click puzzle game. Dialogue isn't offensive at all but may not be appropriate for young children.
