What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We would like to invite players, to work together, and make Kingdom Wars2: Battles into a strategy game masterpiece.

Now that Kingdom Wars II: Battles has a solid foundation in place, and the game is already a lot of fun and stable; We think that the time is right to get the Steam community involved. Over the following months, we will work together, and your combined player feedback will determine what the team works on, and what features we add.

Our team will do everything in our power to open up the development and commit to weekly updates. We plan to talk with our players directly in-game, and read and reply to almost every forum suggestion and reports. Players will be asked to vote on features proposed by other players, and our team will do our best to add most desired ideas, and features in-game.
Please keep in mind, that KW2B is a work in progress. And while we did our best to eradicate most bugs prior to Early Access launch, it is far from perfect. In addition - as we are adding new player requested features we expect new bugs, and issue to arise.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our goal is to release KW2B once our players feel that the game is ready. After the first phase of early access is complete, and we have added all the content and features that are already planned, we`ll have a better idea of where we stand. Depending on how many features players would want to see added during second EA phase, and the scope of new player requests content - we are expecting to release between mid to late 2015 release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Depending on the player feedback, and the number of features community would like us to add, we are expecting the game to undergo a lot of changes, and see a lot of new features over the coming months. The full version will contain all the updates, features, and content, polished to ensure greatest possible experience. Early access allows us to release a masterpiece, instead of a rushed beta-start release.

We plan to continue regular updates even after release, with fresh content and additional features requested by the community.

In addition, as the game features an Episodic singleplayer game, our team will continue working on new chapters in the singleplayer campaign, adding an hour or two to the storyline every couple of weeks, during Early Access, and after release. With new Episode featuring hours of gameplay, released every few months.

Another major project is striving to achieve perfect balancing and gameplay for competitive multiplayer part of the game. We want to get this right, as good as top competitive strategy games, with veteran and new players alike being happy with competitive multiplayer experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“KW2B Early Access is fully playable, with the entire foundation and a large number of features in place. In addition, we already had our community alpha test the game, with a lot of bugs fixed, and game running well and stable. However, while multiplayer is mostly feature complete, we only have a third of the singleplayer campaign finished, and some cool features like Player Crafting Trading, Ranking, Guilds, and accessing singleplayer without internet connection are still being worked on. As of now, the following features are available:
  • Full multiplayer skirmish, with three games modes, both rated and unrated
  • Three fully playable races with all buildings, units, and techs complete
  • Nearly 150 items to craft, including craftable playing card
  • Long term Playing Cards and Tech unlock progression
  • First chapters of the singleplayer campaign
  • Singleplayer build and attack practice mode, with passive AI

Many new features are still to come, and with community support the game world and features will greatly expand. Also many current features are subject to change based on player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Our plan is to scale the price as we get closer to the release, and more content is available. We want players to feel that they are paying the appropriate price for the amount of gameplay content KW2B provides. And having a lower price tag at the first phase of Early Access, also rewards our first players and contributors.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will play a major role in the development of KW2B. With our past games, we have always taken our time to read all player feedback and consider each proposal and suggestion. With our community team and developers, available in-game, via email, and extremely active in the forums.

Our plan is to work directly with our community, with almost a third of our development time going towards interaction with our players. To elaborate:

You will get a chance to fight with and against our developers and community managers in PvP while discussing your ideas, and suggestions with us.

Every forum post will be read, and the majority replied to, with all your feedback carefully considered.

Every couple of weeks, we`ll have a voting pool on features proposed by other players, where community deciding if they like other players ideas, and what our team will be working on

Development will be open and transparent - with weekly reports to show who in the team is working on what projects, what cost and timeframe is allocated to a certain project, as well as countless other details to unveil the work that goes into game development.

We will encourage and assist players who want to take a more active role, and take part in content design. If you have basic art or level design skill - you could make a new unit or a building, or perhaps a skirmish level that we`ll polish up and add in-game. We are hoping to allow content creators to use Steam Workshop down the road. Meanwhile Early Access features our level editor.”

Patch 0.0.9 - In Sync

This week our main focus was on getting rid of the game breaking out of sync bugs; that greatly effected multiplayer experience.

We are happy to say that we should be absolutely OOS free in 1vs1, with very rare instances of minor OOS still in 2vs2, on player disconnect.

This patch also helps new players get started with free crafting items, as well as makes GUI look and act much better on low resolutions.

Our next priority is improving performance, and getting rid of multiplayer lag. After that we`ll continue working on player suggestions.

As always - thank you for your support!

Patch 0.0.9
-Fix majority of out of sync issues
-Chat is now properly scaled on low resolutions
-GUI scaling for campaign menu
-First batch of new icons for human and elven abilities
-New players now start the game with several crafting items
-Crafting menus now display a sign on items player can, and can`t afford
-Reduced unit fog of war values
-Fixed horse cart twitching animation
-Sound FX will no longer play if the game is minimized

This game shows a lot of promise but unfortunately suffers from the same bugs that were present in the first one. The music, for example, constantly resets itself to the default setting after it loops forcing you to go into the options menu every few minutes to turn it down/off. While there is a single player campaign, there is no save feature at present. This is unfortunate, considering that the game crashed after 20 minutes of playing the first level with no way to recover it. I like the ideas it brings to the table: craft-able cards, researching permanent tech upgrades...sort of reminds me of "Age of Empires Online" that way. The developers have also proven through their first game that they have no problem with releasing free DLC/add-ons and responding to the community. To that end, I'd say pick this up if you don't mind the bugs (buildings disappearing, etc.) and lack of a save feature...otherwise, wait a while until the game becomes a bit more polished.

Very fun game. For an alpha I'm suprised to have not run into any significant bugs, whcih I often do when I go deep into the darkness that is alpha releases. It already delivers on much of what they promise, again, unlike other alphas. If there was one thing I wanted, it was more single player story, loooooove a good story. But it looks like they're already planning on more single player missions. Can't wait to see the final version!

If you are an old skool RTS fan and like castle/siege warfare - this is for you !

Game is very well optimized even with hundreds of units all moving and fighting.

Dev's are very interactive and supportive - they are listening to new suggestions and its implemented fast.

Units are moving in groups so it's easy to move large armies to attack.

The price is very reasonable.

(Apologies if this review is a tad long but being detailed can be helpful everyone once in a while lol)

An impressive start to this game,
The Developers stated that this game would run smoothly and that they hope to bring this achievement from running smoothly (in which i can personally vouch for, great work for that guys/lasses) into their first development (Dawn of Fantasy) I personally believe in the developers and they work their god damn arses off trying to get the games to work, to the best they can.

You gamers that play with a wooden Toaster, it'll definately work on your wooden toaster, thats not an insult to you nor the developers, in fact its quite the opposite, its a great thing indeed and you will feel relieved that you an actually play a game without so much of a lag.)

Great game, obviously needs tweaks here and there for present things within the game and obviously got more stuff coming, its a great game, too great a game to pass up in fact.

A sexy idea, the tech tree, and i think it will serve well for the game, and the cards, i haven't looked at it much since i've been engrossed into the ins and outs of the actual gameplay, but from what i've seen, it looks good.

The gameplay feels much smoother than the first, but again, improvements are always welcome and a pretty site on games.

Overall, Get this god damn game and play it will ya? (its an awesome game for old skool RTS players such as myself.)

This is a very fun little game. The single player is lacking, Needs a proper skirmish mode. Hopefully we get one. Other then that its similar to stronghold crusader, but with fantasy elements similiar to lord of the rings. Are the graphics amazing? no, not really, but its fun and its not taking itself too seriously. I play total war games when i want complete realism on the battlefield. The game is large scale, and i cant stress enough, just fun. You start with a town or whatever from which you build peasents. 1 squad of peasents is like 15 guys. So you build some squads and then you task them out to do things like..work mines for stone, kill pigs for food, loot corpses for gold and stuff, etc etc you get the idea. Each race is different, for example the elves do not chop down trees like humans do. they are nature lovers or whatever so, they work with the earth. You build houses to increase population cap. Each house adds 10 squads, each squad can have 15ish men in them. I dont know the max population...i havent hit one yet. But you can see from the video up top on the store page that the battles can be big. Theres upgrades and tech trees, things mostly make sense, like if you have catapults on your wall, they fire stones but in doing so they deplete them from your stock pile. Makes sense to me, Stones arent infinite and free to just toss around. Theres alot of detail in the maps, The huge cities and towns are really pretty and well thought out. In closing....I dont know how popular this game is, there are clearly more of them, and this is the most recent, but i had never heard of these games before this one. so i cant compare the rest or anything, but man i feel like i stumbled across a little gem. This is true old school rts. Build a barracks get infantry. I compare this most with the lord of the rings rts battle for middle earth. Basically if Battle for middle earth and stronghold had a baby, this would be its offspring. Also reminds me ALOT of warcraft 3 so maybe battle for middle earth cheated with warcraft 3, and stronghold never found out, so stronghold helped raise the kid as his own. LOL

after my alpha test i ahve great hopes on this game. there is allot of work to be done but they can be fixed.
and with more and more suggestons coming in all the time there wll be much to this game on full release.

it is a great rts with a good crftting system where you can craft techs and cards with items you get from playing the game.
there is a little unbalance in it as you will experiance getting allot of one item or at least thats what i got.

if youre a fan of rts games and like being part of it under its development get it while its on sale

Liked Kingdom Wars, but found it a little slow paced? Well, that's where Kingdom Wars 2: Battles come in!

Gather resources, build your base, train your troops, customize unit skills with battle exp, collect cards to earn new units and skills, then play through a lengthy campaign as Humans, Elves or Orcs or take the battle online with 1 vs 1 and even 2 vs 2's and free for all's!

If you are a Kingdom Wars fan or hell, even an Old School RTS fan i strongly recommend to try this out.
First, I Alpha tested this game and i am proud to say the developers are very responsive to bugs and happily accept suggestons from all users
Secondly, this game (so far as its in beta now) Irons out most of the bugs on Kingdom Wars 1 and other RPG's such as the "Out of Sync" issue with multiplayer games such as this. The old school economy system also brings back nostalgia from older RTS's namly Age of Empires.
Thirdly, The Community. The community is made up of a lot of old school players who could relate to old times and also are friendly with new players.
Anyway if your a fan of RTS's or maybe even just like RTS's than this is definitley a good choice to try out with responsive devs, nostalgic economy system and general gameplay, and great community willing to help out!

Kingdom Wars 2 is looking very interesting so far, and the Devs are great, just in the two weeks of alpha before early access, they had around 5 patches rebalancing/optimizing this game, it runs fine too, has SOME lag spikes with all the units, but you can run this on most computers, unlike competitors like Starcraft, and the god awful "Planetary Annihilation". As a quick end to this review, I'll just write a small pros/cons list.

PROS:
-Interesting Races, all with different mechanics, more to be added, too, I believe.
-Runs great on most PCs with (some) lag, will most likely be fixed very soon.
-Realistic sieges compared to other games, In Starcraft all you'll really have is a half-decent map where one side has walls/range and the other side has infinite units, in this, you make the units, research and build siege equipment, and send in your army to try and get ladders/towers on the wall, batter down the gate, or just fly a dragon over, while the defenders have hoardings, archer towers, trebuchet, burning oil, bolt throwers, rock drops, or maybe even a f♥♥♥ing wizard, Harry!
-Potential, this game, while reusing a lot of assets from the first, is actually becoming its' own unique thing, icons have been changed, descriptions, some models, I could actually see the devs overhauling the graphics completely and making it look amazing.

Cons:
-Graphics, looks like something made a year or two after the time of Warcraft 3
-Glitches, I saw an orc spaz sideways in a river while shooting arrows out of a machete at my passing units until my archers ripped him a new one
-Progression, It's kind of good/kind of bad, If you're just starting out, you may be unlucky enough to go against someone who has dwarves or goblins, which are both kind of unbalanced, goblins have been slightly nerfed (again, good devs.), but it's still somewhat unbalanced to have extremely powerful units unlockable only with playtime, at least you get the resources to progress very fast. (One random resource a game, bonus if you win)

Despite its faults, it has some of the most trustworthy/interactive Devs I've seen on Early Access, and with funding could turn into something great.

TLDR:
Just buy the damn game already.

Played Kingdom Wars 1 and fell inlove. What pulled me in was the fact that you could see your army in full veiw not just some browers based RTS. KW1 brought a game that let you be in the battle feel the change in the tides of war.

With Kingdom Wars 2: Battles you get all that and them some! You get to build your army, watch it grow, then engage in battle with your enemy in 1 v 1, 2v2, free for all, and even single player skirmishes all in the name of victory.

This is a quick review on the current EA state, at the time of writing, of the game. Once the game gets out of EA, I'll do a more proper review like my others. For now I'll review only the content that is actually there, and not the content that is not there or that is planning to be there in the future. I won't cover every matter, but only the ones I think are important for you to know to decide whether or not you want to buy the game. Be warned though, I have more experience with writing reviews for fully released games than for EA/alpla/beta games so it might be worth checking out other reviews about this game too.

Pros:
-Visuals look good.
-Nice community.
-Good communication between devs and players.
-3 well known races to choose from (Humans, Elves, Orcs), who all work very different and with each their pros and cons.
-Tech research: pro for 'long' term investment in a specific race.
-Ability to craft cards that you can 'play' ingame (for example, summoning a few troops).
-Overal, a game that looks very promising (and I don't usually say this about EA games).

Cons:
-Unit balancing issues.
-Performance issues in multiplayer (mostly lag during combat).
-Limited camera zoom/angle freedom.
-Tech research: con for playing too much with the same race wich in time will start feeling repetitive. Also, new players will be at a disadvantage against players that have already unlocked some tech.
-Steam achievements unlocking is bugged (achievements are gained where they shouldn't, and are not where they should).

Some notes
The current gamemodes available are:
-Episodes (campain): first chapter (2 missions) of the first episode.
-Skirmish: 1v1 player versus passive ai.
-1v1 pvp
-2v2 pvp
-Free For All: 1v1v1v1 pvp

Also note that each race right now has only 1 predefined castle structure. This means that right now you can't choose where to build your walls, wich means that they will always be placed on the same spot in each game.

You can always ask me specific questions about this game, if you have any.

Theres no point making a massive list of the faults its early access so you know its going to have issues

The base game went from a fairly well played (over 1k online) rts to just a few 100 at best
mainly due to terrible balance issues and out of sync battles
With the worst of the mistakes left behind in kw1 this game should be a new "dawn of fantasy" rts

Now thats an impressive job from Reverie team. They really improved the engine which totally deserves the 2.0 title :D

The most noticeable is the combat. Units are fluid and responsive and pathfinding seems to be totally fixed. Most small glitches and bugs from KW1 never shows up during my gameplay, and believe me, i had some fights there which could easily match those EPIC moments from KW1

The new mechanics is fantastic. The fast paced combat will surely grow a very competitive community. Theres a great sense of evolution, which is costly but very functional.

Im not a RTS gamer, but somehow KW universe really appeal me. Ive spent over 200 hours into KW1, and i can see myself playing both games for a long time yet. Im sure both games will work out great togheter, so far the knowledge acquired from one, can be used on the other. I can see people training uncommon army formation and strategies to use into KW1 :D

Long live to Reverie and KW universe!

After playing the game for a couple hours i found that the game so far is well developed and that the developers are fast on their toes when it comes to getting back to you about suggestions for the game. If you are a fan of RTS styled games i couldnt recommend this game more Kingdom Wars 2 may have a small community of players right now but just think about how you could have an impact on the game! Not only will your idea possibly be looked at but the developers might agree with it and add it in! This is worth the price and im glad I bought it and not only that, there is no pay to win aspect behind it and any player new or veteran can win at this game even if you dont have tech or cards you stand as much of a chance at winning as the other player does. Also the three races (Orcs,Elves and humans are equally balanced in there own ways! 10/10 would lead my elves into a wolf pack while watching the enemy castle burn to the ground again! *NOTE* this is early access and there are bugs in the game but chances are if you are as big of an RTS fan as i am you will look past the bugs and look at the amazing game created before you.
