At first, I didn't expect the game to be this fun; I was wrong.

My first impression of the game was the art style, quite unique on its own. And after I decided to buy it and played through, it was getting more and more addictive. You will dig, dig, dig and find many precious things, then you will turn them into money, now you will take your money to buy stuff so you can dig, dig, dig better and faster.

The adaptation of your playthrough, where you try to upgrade yourself (level-up and upgrade weapon/armor), is very well done. The gameplay's design is architechtural well built. The monsters get smarter and harder to kill, while you get stronger along the way. And it's all up to how you improve your character.

It's that simple, but so much fun.

Steamworld Dig is a delightful little action/platforming/mining game with solid controls, good pacing, and a charming art style. Dig for ores, avoid (or destroy) obstacles, upgrade your tools and abilities, and discover what's waiting at the bottom of the world. It starts off simply, but as you become stronger and better equipped, you'll find the environment and enemies ready to keep you on your toes. It never becomes overly challenging, though, nor does it wear out its welcome. I felt the 9 hours it took me to complete was just right, and I can definitely see playing through again some day to try to earn the achievements that I missed.

In the meantime... bring on Steamworld Heist!

This game is really fun if you're into exploring and upgrading; however, it's one of those games that you can complete in one sitting so be sure to make the most out of your first playthrough! The Soundtrack is pretty enjoyable and the steampunk/western art style is very pleasing to look at. Totally worth it for the experience.

This game reminds me of a lot of random things but that's just because it was like a straight up 1st impression which leads to this conclusion.

1st time i booted the game it reminded me right away of the animated movie "Rango" but a robot that came in town to dig underground in search for fortune. As i dig deeper with my not-so-strong pickaxe i was humming along "Heigh-Ho" from another animated movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Random so far right!? So that's the presentation that gave me at 1st glance but its nothing negative.

As i dug deeper i earn more money from the gems i found to buy tools and upgrades back in town and also discover new abilities in which will help me reach to obstacles where i used to find it hard to reach at first.

So this game is about exploration, discovery & creative puzzle solving. I like it, never knew that the game can get addicting overtime so:

Pros:
  • Colorful graphics
  • Charming presentation and setting (yeah there's a reason why you're a robot because of the abilities which is great!)
  • Creative tools and abilities
  • Digging can be addicting
Cons:
  • The controls is a little bit lose and that usually got me digging the wrong dirt most of the time which made me miss the chance of getting that dirt full of gems on

I recommend this game to those who like metroid, digdug, 2D puzzle adventure games.

At first I didn't really feel like I was enjoying it, but quickly I was unable to stop playing it. 2 hours passed bofore I was able to stop playing it for the first time. Was very unexpected. Keep an eye out for when this game goes on sale or is in a bundle. Nice little time killer.

This is a pretty fun game for those who like to explore. The maps are grided much like in Minecraft, but in 2D instead. There is more detail in the art and a good storyline. Par-cor is needed a bit as you progress in game, but lots of fun getting ore and doing quests.

SteamWorld Dig is a very charming game about a robot digging for treasures in a Wild West scenario. The gameplay is an interesting mix of digging, platforming, some light puzzling and uncovering secrets while fighting some enemies here and there. One thing this game does really well is offering new gameplay elements at exactly the right times, keeping itself from getting stale. Over time you can unlock new abilities, which you can also upgrade that make the digging, traversing through the tunnels and fighting easier and more fun. The level design for some areas differs considerably from the rest, which results in quite a few surprises along the way. My first playthrough took me about 10 hours, but the game can apparently be completed in less than 2 ½ hours according to one of the achievements, but that requires some serious rushing, which I'm personally not a fan of.

In conclusion: I had a great time with this game and highly recommend it!

This game is easily the best game I have ever played in my life. This game's plot is incredibly in depth and well thought out. I wont spoil anything in this review, but it has an fantastic story line filled with romance and betrayal. There is a great suprise ending. All of the characters have well written back stories and have great character progression. One of the robots' stories had me literally in tears by the end of the game. Her story has inspired me to reform my shallow life. The characters in this game have more depth to them than most people I know.

The gameplay to this masterpiece is very good as well. I would say that this game might be mechanically too difficult for the average casual gamer, but for truely hardcore gamers it will challenge you and truely push you to your limits. Gamers seeking a challenging game that they can seek to master will absolutely love steamworld dig. There are many different ways one can go about trying to accomplish the main goal of the game; "digging". First, and most important, is using the pickaxe to break appart blocks in order to collect resorces. This might seem like a realatively easy task, but it gets more difficult as the game goes on. Luckily there are other ways to accomplish this "digging". You can use the drill and steam punch later on in the game to quickly and efficiantly dispose of pesky blocks. This will however drain one of your important resorces; "water". Managing this "water" resorce while maintaining rapid "digging" rates is one of the most important ways to improve your effectiveness in steamworld dig. This all may sound pretty complicated and technical. Sorry to disapoint casual players, but it is. Steamworld dig has an extremely high skill floor. Masters will be delighted to find it has a very high skill ceiling as well. Because of the high skill ceiling and the indepth plot steamworld dig has very high replay value. I know I have logged hundreds of hours into this game just to experience all of the outcomes.

Steamworld dig has the best graphics out of any game released so far (to my knowledge). The robots and an insane level of detail and the dirt blocks look more real than the dirt outside my house. Truely the artists that put together the visuals should be praised for their attention to detail and their ability to create 3d models that bring this game to life. I have spent hours in steamworld dig just walking around so I could full appreciate the detail and craftsmenship of the game's artists. Once, during a 24 hour marathon, I forgot I wasnt in real life. I would recomend getting this game even just to observe the graphics. Its hard to make comparisons to other games because steamworld dig is just so far ahead of any other game.

Overall I would recomend this game to anyone who wants a beautiful, challenging, and well written game. This is my favorite game of all time and I hope it can soon be yours as well!

I just beat Steamworld Dig, with a little over 10 hours of gameplay. I got it from a Humble Bundle, and it just kinda sat there in my library. I decided to give it a try.

This game can easily be beaten in 2 hours, but I am a completionist and got a lot out of it. It's a nice game, but I wouldn't buy it for the $11 asking price (I'm a cheapass). If I wasn't broke, I'd surely pay $20 for this game. This is the developers first PC title, and it's impressive. It's a nice indie game, and definitely worth your time.

For what it is, I give it a full 10/10.

SteamWorld Dig was, on the whole, a fun experience. While it only clocked about 4-5 hours, I had fun the entire time, and had difficulty putting it down. That in and of itself is worth a recommendation, as my gaming attention span is difficult to hold. But I digress.

The gameplay boils down to, well, digging and exploration. If you don't particularly value exploration and collection, I don't think this game is right for you. Digging to new depths, collecting Ore to sell, and gaining valueable upgrades is most of what you'll be doing.

The graphics are very pleasant; it has a distinct, vibrant aesthetic that I very much enjoyed.

However...

- Feels short (~4 hours). Left me longing for more game.
- Combat was somewhat frustrating. Thankfully, it's not to frequent.
- Gameplay is somewhat tedious, with digging and returning to town to replenish light / looking to replenish resources.

Still, overall I enjoyed the game, especially considering I got it in a $1 Humble Bundle. The recommendation is contingent if you enjoy these types of games, however. I think I'd rate it as a 7.5/10.

Such a pleasing game to play, gorgeous colors, amazing soundtrack, and smooth gameplay. Took about three hours for me to complete. Some cons, got stuck quite a few times while mining and you also cannot mine while wall climbing or while on a ladder. Would definitely play again though. 10/10
