“Each time the protagonist dies, you find yourself coming back with a vengeance, determined to try a new strategy, a different approach to her upbringing. It's borderline addictive. It's also likely to make a monster out of you. By the end of my first successful playthrough, I had summarily butchered everyone who even thought about looking at us funny, forced the princess into a continuous state of docility and lied my way through every social encounter possible. Was it evil? Yes. Was it glorious? Definitely.”

“Somehow it never occurred to my princess, whom I’d lovingly crafted into a tense, paranoid warlord, that she shouldn’t empty a box of mysterious mailcandy into her mouth. You would think studying poison and espionage would have saved me from this espionage poison, but instead, a list of other skills, skills I never studied, princess skills, were key to avoiding this fate. I guess that’s the lesson: you can’t build a successful Arya without adding a little Sansa.”
PCGamer

“If you’re the sort who can sink your teeth into a full afternoon of tabletop strategy, you’ll be happy here. Long Live The Queen is a slow-paced, cozy evening kind of game, good for folks who like numbers and critical thinking. And death. Pink frosted, chubby cheeked death.”

About This Game

Rule the world or die trying!

Being a Princess is not an easy job. Being a Queen is even harder. Especially when you're only fourteen years old, and the reason you've inherited the throne is that your royal mother has just met an untimely end.

Now power is up for grabs. You may be the official heir, but much of the country's nobility would love to steal the throne for themselves. Aggressive neighbors will take advantage of any weakness to enlarge their borders at your expense. And that's not even mentioning the magical dangers which are lying in wait...

Can you survive long enough to reach your coronation?

I started out as such a hopeful little pre-queen. I learnt the things I should, like how to talk to nobles like you care, how to courtsey gracefully and hide your eyerolling, how to stare down a room full of judgemental arses...

Sadly I didn't think, didn't know. And how could I?

How could I know that I, as a beautiful and elegent young princess, would ever need to know how to climb? Or falconry? ...Or reflexes ...divination ...battlefield medicine?!

Oh come on! What the hell do I pay you people for?!

Does no one check for poison these days? What were those scouts doing? Lounging under a tree? Did the carriage pass them at all on our merry way into that ambush? A peasant uprising??? Why was I not alerted earlier?! That's it. FIred. You're all FIRED! I simply cannot work under these conditions!

So many failed skill checks...

Would definitely die again.

Best death simulator ever!
When I read about this game before I thought people were joking, but no, you'll actually die like all the time.
I've made to Queen after 3 hours of dying, and it was awesome...
For me to become queen, my dad had to reveal my mom's death secret, I had to promisse marrying some random dude who invaded the castle and had to live 2 weeks under his control... then... BAM! when I least expected I was 15 and the High Priest was crowning me!
Now gotta die some more to unlock all the achievements.
ALL HAIL TO MOE DEATH SIMULATOR!

Who said ruling a (queendom) was easy. Do you though it was all fun, games and delicious chocolate (pun intended)?

Let's summarize:
- Moe girl doing moe things like crushing enemies with her very own hands and telling everybody what to do? Check.
- Princess Maker interface, outfits, and decisions? Check.
- Lots of Dead Ends to satisfy your merciless "Let the cutie die" instinct? CHECK.

"Hello. My name is Elodie of Nova. You killed my mother. Prepare to die."

This game will destroy thoroughly all you used to call "morals" and make you a monster.
Your family meetings will never be the same.

Warning: Excessive exposition to Long Live The Queen may cause, among other symptoms: Megalomania, Misanthropy, Delusional disorder, Paranoia and sudden interest in magic and showy fashion.

Extreme mortality ahead. Play at your own discretion.

I went to visit a friend and took an arrow above the knee.
I had enough medical training to not kill myself but apparently my will was lacking and I screamed like a ***** until enemie knights came to finish me off like the justice dealers they were.

I have made no fewer than 20 attempts at this game and have still not figured out yet how to force someone else to get married or to end up in the forest with magical beasties. The number of different routes is so enormous it is almost rediculous... I need to play again.

Elodie... Your mother was murdered... Prepare to die...

I was the prettiest Anime princess.
I was elegant, nice, but rather daft.
I knew what was going to happen only when it was unnecessary.

I died in a war.

10/10 at least I didn’t die to poisoned chocolates. (RIP Some Random Maid)

So I have owned this game for less than 5 hours. Still have not won yet, but that is no issue. This game is addicting.
So far I have died in three different ways, and no playthrough has been the same. Picking skills makes some aspects of the game change, and ever triggers differnt events. No matter how many times I play, I forget what skills will make me 'pass' certain tests that I don't normally succeed on. It's made each game unique and fun.
My only complaints of the game are problems I have with a lot of visual novels. Many sequences become tedious and if you want all the endings, and experience all the opinions, you have to sit through them. The skip opition is much appreciated. Some of the skills seem completely useless, or only seem to have one use for a 'test' in the game. It's hard to tell which ones though, as some skills uses don't always get triggered. I recommend having a save file immediently after the start tutiorial so you can have a quick restart and not have to sit through the opening.
Also. Leveling up intrigue is a good way to not eat the chocolate. NEVER EAT THE CHOCOLATE.

This has been called a "princess simulator", but it is a bit more than that. What we have is a trial-and-error strategy game enmeshed in a setting which emphasises feudal politics, fantasy tropes, a story of betrayal alongside decision making, tailoring and improving your skills. All done in a setting that you will discover is a cruel and pitiless world. In this den of jackals you play a small, weak, and initially helpless young girl and heiress to a queendom.

Your Lumen (mage) mother, the Queen, is dead, and you are very young. Everyone is lying to you, including those closest to you that claim to be trying to protect you. Are they really making the best decisions for your future? Currently, it is a matriarchy but you are too young to inherit. What this means is that you are encircled by sharks, who will steal your rightful crown off of you if you are not careful (and ruthless). So play dirty, form a plan and study hard, give in to evil, paranoia or try to pursue a just path. Remember though, to prepare yourself for death.

I am a pretty, pretty princess! When trying to become Queen I got stabbed, shot, poisoned, burned to a crisp, and rule 34ed Japan style.
10 out of 10, would die again.

Long Live the Queen is a Visual Novel game that, instead of trying to simply win the hearts of others and fall in love, you try to survive the horrors of royal life with your head intact. Of course, it doesn't help when everyone is a bloodthirsty murderer who's only desire is to bring forth the death of a fourteen year-old girl. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with them?

You take the role of Princess Elodie, who needs to be traind to be a proper queen because Disney dictates that no princess is allowed to have a living mother. You end up making all the decisions because your father is a lazy bum who's shirked off all of his responsibilities, but for some reason won't let you have your mother's keepsake. The kingdom is a mess, everyone is evil, and no matter what you do you just can't seem to save this poor little traumatized girl.

The mechanics of the game play on themselves in a bit of a cycle. You can upgrade Elodie's stats; which can increase slowly or rapidly based on her mood; which is based on events that have happened; which are based on your choices as well as her stats; which are upgraded accordingly based on her mood; which is ba-- ah you get the idea. This means that every decision, even the first one, can drastically affect how the story unfolds. No two games are alike, unless you purposefully do everything in the exact same way every time. But that's boring.

Because of the above mentioned do-it-all-the-same concept, you can technically beat the game as many times as you like after you find out how to do it once. But beating the game is not where this game shines. Sure, acquiring the crown and becoming Queen Elodie is a grand event in itself; only if you get there (because you will die, and die a lot). But one of the greatest things about this game the ability to make different choices every time and see where it leads you. Find out what is down each path and discover what you can and can't get away with. And more importantly, unlock all the outfits because they're cute. Proper wardrobe is the pinnacle detail between ratty princesses and prestine queens.

All in all, it is a great game and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Wait... you can learn magic? HELLZ YEAH!
