What the developers have to say:

7 Days to Die thrusts players into the aftermath of the fall of civilization with only their wits and bare hands to survive. In this continually evolving title currently in alpha stage development, players must explore the open world alone or with friends to build tools, weapons and shelter against the dangers of the reanimated dead, infected wildlife and the world itself.”

Reviews

“7 Days to Die achieves exactly what it sets out to be. It’s a fun and intense post-apocalyptic sandbox with all the right mix of base-defense, scavenging, and exploration.”
8.3 – Shoost

“7 Days to Die is like Minecraft with Gravity. Building defenses with friends and huddling in the corner hoping no zombies get through can be great fun. But what keeps me coming back to the game is the TNT.”
Kotaku

“7 Days to Die looks genuinely impressive, and I can’t see this not making a huge impact when it arrives.”

I've played this game ALOT, and it's a REALLY great game on single player. But on multiplayer if the server doesn't have a VERY secure anticheat.. then theres cheaters. I had played on a multiplayer server for good 3 weeks, about 200 hrs of gameplay on just 3 weeks. Had a really nice base and all, then a hacker noclipped into my base and had an AK47 that shot explosive ammo which ruined my base completely. He had godmode and my base was just a big hole. But the game is great but i've stopped playing it as i cannot find a server with really good anticheat preventing these happenings.

The game is just awesome, however the graphics performance is a big issue in this game, I have an nVidia gtx970 and sometimes i get 30fps for no reason. There is no zombies near me and im also not in a city. It should be very apperciated if fun pimps can clean the game so its more optomized

NO it RAN fine, but every colour is in black and white, this game is broken and i really do not know how they could be releasing on consoles in less then a month. DO NOT BUY FOR MAC. Ps I will be getting a PC soon so i hope that it will solve the problem of me wasting money. Ill update then.

For two years this game has gotten progressively worse. It was playable and fun...every couple months i would come back to play for a few weeks as the developers "improved" things. The look and feel of the the game has degenerated and currently feels like a high school kid's senior project. I have no idea how Fun Pimps goes backwards. I also play Rust, and for the last two years it continues to evolve in a positive direction...gameplay gets better, graphics imrpove, etc...

The graphics today have got to be worse than two years ago, and it is now a complete waste of time.

I have no idea how the game got worse instead of bettter, unless they took all the development money and had a big bonfire with it, and gave a couple kids the keys to the server and told them to make it feel like 2007

Best survival, or crafting or zombie game take your pick. Development on this game is very active not only is it worth getting it pre release but it is very quickly turning into possibly one of the best games ever. It just has nailed it if you like gathering and mining and crafting it is top notch, if you want to run around and kill things that is super solid. No matter what your game play is it is very fun. Of course I am not going to sugar coat it that it doesn't have bugs and missing some things, but most of the bugs are not super horrible and the Dev team responds very quickly to them and it is definitely heading in an amazing direction and it is already very much so fun and playable. Keep up the good work fun pimps.

If your thinking About buying this game do buy it and get involved in the development of the game they listen!

Day 1382, i sit on top of a burnt out church next to a grave yard using the cross for wood to fuel my camp fire while the horde screams below me tearing at the walls. The cold wind howls as the snow chills my soul... I wait for dawn hoping that they dont climb the walls in the middle of the night ..
------------------------------

The steam profile for this game does it no justice .. the video is crap ..

It has game play, but it lacks high end graphics, im def ok with that ... its hardcore, try it you wont be disapointed ..

In my humble opinion, the direction the game has taken is much improved. There are a few bugs still and the multiplayer has some minor issues but all in all if you've some semi-decent hardware and a taste for survival, minecraft, zombies, or all three this is the game for you.

With the graphics cranked up the world is actually quite pretty and with it's randomly generated environments you'll never run out of places to explore.

The building system is simplified from it's original version, I personally feel that this enhances, rather than detracts from, the game. There were some grumblings that it had become too simplistic, but to me it seems to simply make the game flow a bit better.

Unlike most other zombie-survival games out there, the zombies are truly a threat and you'll find yourself watching your back more and more often as the game teaches you a brutal lesson in the meaning of the word pain. Just try venturing out at night and make a little bit of noise, you'll see what I mean. :)

Dismember, explode, crush and stab your way through the horde with dozens of weapons and traps, dig deep into the earth and build a bunker to end all bunkers, chisel out a home in the side of a mountain, raise a wall and surround it with spikes galore, race down the abandoned roads in your dinky little motortrike, pilfer other players and their homes for loot, explore ghost towns in the desert, ruined cityscapes, suburban sprawls and industrial complexes, ♥♥♥♥ing chase down and brutalize rabbits! The game is limited really only by your own creativity and adaptability.

TL;DR: There are some bugs, you need an OKish PC to run it, and it's ♥♥♥♥ing fun as hell to play.

7/10 in execution

10/10 in concept, I hope it gets there.

Ya, I don't recommend it but that does not mean it's a bad game. Just that there is currently far better games currently out that do the same thing or very similar thing.

I did enjoy it for a bit, but that did not last to long. It can get challenging but it is also far to easy to cheat. Being given the ability to have a creative mod in there map. With that on, you can easily select anything you need to build a place, fly and have guns and bombs for days.

If you like this type of game and want to try it. Go for it but definitely get it on sale.

I have owned this game since the ground was Minecraft cubes. I have a million (okay, that's hyperbole) other games and this is the one I always keep coming back to. I've watched as the land has smoothed out, a skill tree has been added, trees and zombies have been beautified, and additional zombies have been added, among other things.

If you are listening to a review from someone who has recently downvoted because of an upgrade, keep in mind that The Fun Pimps are constantly monitoring player feedback and responding to it. Ultimately, this is an alpha and there will be times when things happen that take away an aspect of the game that you are used to or that is part of your usual play style, but you can try a new play style for a while then return to it when it's reintroduced after The Fun Pimps are able to respond to the complaints.

Now, how about some pros and cons from someone who has some real gameplay in?

Pros:
Continual work from The Fun Pimps. I don't think any other alpha can boast this kind of attention from its creators.

Certain levels of hilarity.

You can make Lucille!

The game runs beautifully on my $500 laptop that is overloaded with programs for college.
Creative play

Biome Variety

Skill Improvement Increases Damage, Item Quality, Access to New Skills.

Building materials respond to zombie damage in a logical manner.

Physics are logical.

Choice of randomly generated world or predetermined world.

POIs everywhere to loot.

Many challenging things to craft and improve.

New quests to be accepted or not.

Zombies aren't the only things to hunt.

You're never truly safe.

Combat requires technique and improves with practice.

Today is my last day of finals (Okay, not relevant to 7 Days to Die, but definitely a pro in my life).

Cons (Build 14.8)

You have to kill dogs (Yeah, it should be on doesthedogdie/gaming.com (I made the gaming part up...the website just exists for movies).

Caves can be too steep leading to unexpected injuries and difficulty leaving.

I had a couple of games where zombies just disappeared and wouldn't spawn, despite setting enemy spawn rate to the max.

Water slows you when walking through it and I think that swimming should be faster than walking.

Temperature system is still wonky.

Bears. I hate bears. Bears are sneaky jerks that don't fight fair.

Verdict:

If you don't like change, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't have patience, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't like challenging combat, don't get this game.

If you like variety and seeing how a game grows over time, get this game.

If you like the idea of going from a guy or gal in his or her underwear to a survival king or queen, get this game.

If you like creating things that become better and better quality as time passes, get this game.

I bought 7 days to die for myself and a friend in a Post-Final exams splurge.
Accidentially pulled a 24-hour gaming session. Barely survived zombies on day 14 tunneling underneath our base, forcing us to go out into the night.

It's almost needless to say that this game has captured my attention and my heart.
tl;dr
I wholeheartedly recommend this game, even though it is in alpha.

This is my list of pros and cons, as of 5/12/16:

PROS
  • Amazingly immersive gameplay.
  • Incredible diversity of crafting options.
  • Scavenging feels intense and exciting.
  • Power-gathering materials is immensely rewarding and oddly calming.
  • Good balance between realistic and simple mechanics for
  • Vast options for difficulty settings, not just in terms of combat, but also regarding death penalties, loot rarity, Length of daylight, in-game time compared to real life time settings, and much more. You'll never feel that this game is "too easy".

CONS
  • /STACK OVERLOAD
  • /STACK OVERLOAD EXCEPTION
  • DOGS, MAN. If you get an unlucky spawn and find yourself being chased by dogs before you have at least a level 100 bow, you're dead.
  • Melee combat needs tweaking for hit detection and range, ESPECIALLY on multiplayer.
  • Ranged weapon aimpoints need adjustment (not aligning with weapon).
  • Rare Glitch: Corpses disappearing immediately after killing zombies.
  • Occasionally, Enemy Pathing leads them to eitirely avoid

Probably the best survival & crafting game ever made. You can never get bored, there's always something to do and gives you the "just one more turn"-ish kind of addiction. Although still in Alpha i can 100% say that i've seen games released by major studios in a way worse state than this "alpha". Very active developers, releasing patches very often.
If you want a game that's really about survival, building and crafting - this is the one.

Pros:
-Tons of items, recipes, weapons, zombies, animals, food, plants, clothes, armor, building pieces, and more to loot/build/explore/kill.
-Many hours of things to do.
-In-depth survival features such as hunger, thirst, stamina, temperature, armor, injuries and illnesses, with various buffs that affect most of these things.
-A true sandbox where you can build anywhere you like. Dig underground, repair and reinforce an existing building, or build an all new structure. Upgrade your build from wood to scrap to concrete etc.
-Challenging zombies.
-A nice crafting system.
-A persistent character progression system where you can allocate points into areas you want to specialize in. This adds quite a bit of longevity to the game IMO.

Cons:
-Wot.

7 Days to Die is one of my favorite games. The devs have done a great job. They communicate with the community(even accepting help from the community to fix/shape the game), and almost every new milestone alpha build feels like a brand new game(really, look at the first few releases of the game and compare them to now---quite an amazing difference IMO). I think this game deserves way more publicity and players. Hopefully the console release will fix that. It gets a lot of flack for its graphics but I don't think it looks that bad honestly.

Awesome game! It's a great game to get 2-4+ friends together and batton down the hatches. There's various roles to play which can be done solo, or divided among your friends.. Everything from Looting towns, crafting items, building a base, mining ect.. I have a game with a few buddies we've probably each put 50+ hours into and keep exploring/ making new Forward Operating Bases. There's something new around every corner to keep you entertained.

Fun builder game with zombies and decent physics. Can really be nerve wracking when you're new at this... and sometimes it can be hard to start out. Beware of dogs.

The biggest nit-pick is that it seems the devs are intent on making this more and more brutal with each iteration. Oh, new build? Let's see what they did. Oh look, dogs still don't obey the movement speed that can be set, and the harder zombies seem to be getting even tougher.

At least they got rid of the need for books---in some cases. It'd be nice if they'd get rid of it completely.

Still would recommend---it's constantly being worked on and is shaping up to be one of the best builder/survival games to date.

It got this game a while ago and honestly didn't really like it too much, but that was probably because I was new to the whole craft/survival thing, and the game did not do a great job at making it easy to understand how to survive, but now the game is very friendly to start, and the crafting interface is extremely easy to understand even if you are picking up the game for the first time. With the added skill trees and the natural progression you gain from just doing random things such as using a bow or crafting is a really nice added feature.

The game definitely gives you chills, and you can't hide forever, The zombies WILL find you, and one night what ever little shack you decided to stay the night in will be destroyed and you will have to run while a horde of sprinting zombies chase you down. Hope you have good stamina or GGWP.

I did come across a nice place located in the middle of a river, (coordinates 580N, 70E) I've been shacking up here and it survived an attack from a horde, if you are having trouble this is definitely a good place to set up camp

Overall this is a very good game, and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a scary survival game.

Pro Tip: Don't fight bears.

Been wanting to invest time in this for years off and on. Review continues to be updated

As of this writing, 14.5 horde bug (feral horde spawning and running right for your X,Y cords every night) makes it near unplayable.
Bumped to experimental 14.6, feral bug seems fixes, but spawning still broken (such as spawning inside small house (15x15 blocks) you secured as you log in, or spawning on the street behind (5 feet away or so) just seconds after you checked). Feral Walkers on day 21 absurd jump in difficulty for two lvl 30 players (5 shotgun blasts to the face meant nothing for them).
Even watched a zombie spawn (14.5 build) inside the back yard in the Land Claim Block footprint, walk into the house, up the stairs, break down bedroom door, and walk to and start hitting land claim block while we followed him 4-5 blocks behind.

Fun voxel game I think, but continuely plagued by really bad Zombie AI and spawn/generation. The game really has two strong selling points, the crafting/minging/building aspect, and the zombie survial aspect. Sadly, the buggy latter completely invalidates the former.

"This game is ruining my life" is something I would say if i had one. :P

As it is, it is merely filling my days with great satisfaction as i struggle to survive in a brilliantly crafted environment complete with the worst freaking dogs you'll ever meet!!! I hate those friggin' dogs!

Tho this game is still in EA, and needs some minor bug fixes, (if I keep getting hit from 30 feet away and have to waste half my ammo on crawlers once this game reaches release, I may start raging and change this review) a little optimization, and a story line (for the hell of it since sandbox mode does me just fine), it is one of the best games I have played in my life.

The gameplay is almost enough to forgive the minor bugs and polish issues. (Bethesda seems to do ok with major releases that never see the quality this game has already reached in that regard, however)

Overall, I support this game in every way, as I have even put up a server for the first time with any game.

If you like survival and moderate crafting (this doesn't get complicated or strenuous), Open World looting and mining in a fully destructible world, PVE or PVP experience, then give this game a try. It won't disappoint.

I bought this game some time ago and enjoyed my time with it, even though I had trouble running it on my rig at the time.
Recently I decide to reinstall it to see how much it's changed and, honestly, it's worse than I remember it. The optimization is no better than it was a year and a half ago, running like hot garbage on my rig which more than meets the recommnded specs. The mouse sensitivity is all sorts of messed up no matter what setting it's on, some of the textures honestly look worse than whan I originally bought it, the new crafting system is needlessly complex, the combat is absolutely awful, and I just can't recommend this game to anyone looking to buy it for $25. I really miss what the game was a year and a half ago because, honestly, it's not worth it.

I went to play 7 Days to die recently and found that I was not able to walk around for 20 seconds without crashing. I looked through the forums and have had found that this is a common issue and has been for some time now. I spent a few hours trying to find a sollution, and installed the game in 32 bit which seemed to fix the issue. There is also an issue with mass amounts of lag durring horde mode.

I do know that the game is in alpha, but a bug as game breaking as that should be addressed a lot quicker than The Fun Pimps have dealt with it. I have been playng 7 Days to Die since its launch and I feel that the developers have just become lazy with their bug fixes.

With that said I do enjoy the game when it does work. But because if the issues it currently has, I sadly can not reccommend it.

If you have yet to buy this game, I recommend waiting because the developers have cut a lot of content and have stated on their forums that this game is pretty much done. They (Mademole [aka Joel Huenink]) have stated that they are artists and not coders and this has lead to them removing anything new they add because it leads to game breaking bugs that they can't figure out how to fix. It has also been stated that all of the things they want to add to the game are going to be saved for the "sequel". This game had soo much potential but it was all wasted. If you want to play with single player or host for maybe a friend or two, you should be fine. This game was built on singleplayer and multiplayer just won't work properly. That is why The Fun Pimps are reducing Random Generated map sizes and recommending a MAXIMUM of only 8 players on the server at a time. Unless you want to pay $100 a month for a beast of a dedicated server or build your own box, follow their recommendation.

P.S. The Fun Pimps are saying otherwise but lately the game has been optimized for a surprise console release via Telltale Games. This is why a lot of content got cut. The developers don't have enough memory to work with because the game is built on x32. Just recently a lot of players were having problems because the x64 launcher wasn't even working properly. They were forced to use the x32.

I think it's a really good game, if you could fix up the cars and drive them that would be cool.

7 Days to Die is one of thee best open world survival games on the market

Zombie survival games have become a dime a dozen over the last few years but in my personal opinion.. 7 days wipes the floor with every single one of them

as a long time Minecraft fan it's very easy to look at 7 days and say.. this is Minecraft on steriods..
the same core mechanics of surviving.. avoiding the night.. building.. diging.. crafting.. eating.. fighting.. and dying exist just as the do in Minecraft.. only in 7 days to die the serious nature of a Zombie apocylipse is ever more dominant

Zombies are no wondering joke like they are in Minecraft.. Sunlight does not kill them.. and if you are a careless fool you'll easily find yourself in the middle of a damn horde

Spawn in the world.. start looking for supplies.. craft some weapons and clothing.. find some food and water and find somewhere to hide for the night..
at night Zombies become feral monsters.. running faster.. hitting harder.. and if they see you running into a building to hide they will literally rip the damn thing apart trying to find you.. doors.. walls.. hell if enough of the structure is damaged the whole thing will come crashing down on top of you..

this is survival at its best with a never ending army of undead with the sole goal of tearing the flesh from your bones..

you can run but you can't hide.. fighting is something every survivor will have to do when the end of the world comes.. and just like the name implies.. on the 7th night.. when the blood moon rises.. you better pray your base can withstand a feral zombie army.. because that's what will be hunting you down..

This is like The Dead Lingers, but actually good. Of course its only like that other thing in concept because thankfully the devs are commited, tallented people who started something and are hellbent on finishing it. They started slow, yes, but they've been really building steam on this game. It not perfect of course, because what early access is, but its a hell of a game. Possibly a bit difficult, I'll admit finding a freind and staying together can be one hell of a frustrating task but once you get rolling its tons of fun. Building, defending, looting, being dragged down and beaten to death, its amazing and frustrating and painful and good. The combat is good, with lots of options to beat your foes down. Just avoid dogs becuase they are hell hounds in disguise. ♥♥♥♥ those dogs are horrifying.
