“7 Days to Die achieves exactly what it sets out to be. It’s a fun and intense post-apocalyptic sandbox with all the right mix of base-defense, scavenging, and exploration.”
8.3 – Shoost

“7 Days to Die is like Minecraft with Gravity. Building defenses with friends and huddling in the corner hoping no zombies get through can be great fun. But what keeps me coming back to the game is the TNT.”
Kotaku

“7 Days to Die looks genuinely impressive, and I can’t see this not making a huge impact when it arrives.”

Great game, hard to survive alone, but one issue is with the temperature system as it's set if fahrenheit yet it's actualy in celsius in the character menu so i'm having to do the math myself to make sure i don't overheat my person.

If you like the building Genre (Minecraft), you'll like this game. If you like Zombie Genre (DayZ), you'll like this game. The graphics aren't fantastic by any stretch, but the gameplay is very fun, and this game has a ton of replay value for sure.

Pros:
-Tons of items, recipes, weapons, zombies, animals, food, plants, clothes, armor, building pieces, and more to loot/build/explore/kill.
-Many hours of things to do.
-In-depth survival features such as hunger, thirst, stamina, temperature, armor, injuries and illnesses, with various buffs that affect most of these things.
-A true sandbox where you can build anywhere you like. Dig underground, repair and reinforce an existing building, or build an all new structure. Upgrade your build from wood to scrap to concrete etc.
-Challenging zombies.
-A nice crafting system.
-A persistent character progression system where you can allocate points into areas you want to specialize in. This adds quite a bit of longevity to the game IMO.

Cons:
-Wot.

7 Days to Die is one of my favorite games. The devs have done a great job. They communicate with the community(even accepting help from the community to fix/shape the game), and almost every new milestone alpha build feels like a brand new game(really, look at the first few releases of the game and compare them to now---quite an amazing difference IMO). I think this game deserves way more publicity and players. Hopefully the console release will fix that. It gets a lot of flack for its graphics but I don't think it looks that bad honestly.

It runs really smooth if you exlude the frame drops and that it's 30fps.
Combat was amazing I basically still have no idea how it works.

It's probably a prank.

This game is the ultimate scam. It looks like an ugly game from 2003 and it can't run except on maybe low settings with low resolution. Combat is worse than runescape and everything in general is broken. You fall through the ground, get stuck on things, inventory system is from stone age. Jesus ♥♥♥♥ing christ get a grip with this 25€ price man. When this first came on steam the game was far better than its now. It used to run decent, the game mechanics were okay and it was playable, though maybe lacking in content. Combat was fast paced and fun, now your character is a chain smoking old granny who can barely walk and somehow manages to continually die from cactus plants. Have you seen what it looks like when you cut down a tree? Its a 2D model that disappears after few seconds and you hear horrible bass sound noise that breaks your ears, and it's not only the trees, the sounds in general just make you want to put down the volume to 5%. I mean it's just a joke I guess, someone is trolling big time. Maybe just a prank. Here's a few pictures: http://imgur.com/a/bQVjF

I've been playing this game for a while now, so I'm going to list the pros and cons for the gameplay.
Pros:
- Crafting system is simple and not too hard to wrap your head around. I particularly enjoy the ability to select an item you have and search for recipes you can make with it.
- Looting system is fairly well done for resources and sometimes you get real good drops such as a fire axe and a heap of gunpowder from lumberjack zombies and tree stumps in the snow biome.
- Zombies are of course pretty cool, you've got a variety of different zombies and they aren't too easy or too hard to kill. Especially challenging at night to fight because they run. There is also the horde that comes every 7 days which makes it exciting.
- Environment is pretty good, you've got different biomes to choose to build your base on and face different types of zombies depending on which one you pick.
- Farming is pretty good I guess. They used to have it so that you didn't need to use a hoe to plant corns but now you do but is still pretty balanced. Farming doesn't require any water or anything but a hoe to grow. They could implement ways to make crops grow faster. The crops you harvest could be crafted into seeds so there is a guarantee that you would get seeds to grow some more crops unlike some other survival games.
- Air drops are pretty good as they drop medical supplies and unique gun parts and schematics that cannot be looted from anywhere else such as the rocket launcher and ak.
Cons:
- Takes too long to get stuff going. The thing that bothers me most is that fact that they changed the game to make it so much harder to get some stuff going. One of my biggest complaints is the ability to craft a forge. My god, you need to hunt animals to get hides to craft this forge and they could take a while. Another thing is that the game heavily depends on the discovery of schematics, books and parts to craft some stuff. It could take hours to find these on a multiplayer server. One example of this is calipers. It is a tool required to craft bullet casings and they can only be found in a store in any city but other players loot it and there usually never enough to go around for people to craft bullets so it makes the PVP rather unbalanced.
Overall Opinion:
The game is pretty good to play whether you want to solo or play with a few mates. It is probably one of the best survival games to play in my opinion. It's simple, easy and fun. Is it worth $25? I'm going to go with yes.

This WAS a great game, but over the past year has declined steadily to the point where it is almost unplayable. The developers have made a series of stupid, poorly executed and inconsistant decisions: complicating the game with the introduction of a leveling system that makes the early game a dull grind; a weather system that punishes the player for merely moving with the most irritating voice acting ever; and at the same time simplifying the game with a dummed down resource collection and harvesting system clearly targeted at the console market. Many updates (usually a good thing), all accompanied with arogant, bombastic declarations about how they've been listening to the community and solved all the problems, when a few minutes of gameplay reveal they have done nothing of the thought.
It's been a long developement, and I think many people played the game for hundreds, if not thousands of hours back when the game was actually fun, felt they got value for money and left positive reviews. The PC market for 7DTD is probably tapped out, and mostly satisfied. I get the impression that the Fun Pimps are now more interested in getting the game onto consoles, using the positive reputation built up, even if it no longer reflects the current product, to sell the game to a new market. They are hardly alone there

This game is fun to play with friends, but its not pretty or very functional. The combatsystem is not a pleasant experience, the building is clunky and the survival aspects can be anoying at times (was sweating to death only wearing shoes). Its just that we are lacking good games to replace this one. All i want is a game that combines crafting and survival without the hassle of bugs, bad combat and agressive players... I would say this game is worth around 5-6 euros, 23 euros is too much for a unfinished "cool idea".

Is a Fun Pimp a pimp that is fun or a person that pimps out fun to others?

I still recommend this game, but at the same time would like to see the price reduced once in a while so more people can enjoy this.

I get why people think the game has gone downhill, especially since alpha 13. At first I too was annoyed with all the changes to combat, inventory, the quality/item level mechanic, the temperature changes, etc. It was frustrating to have all the crafting buttons moved around, to have to click and drag to pick up items, to be alternately overheating and freezing, and to watch zombies spaz out as they approach you making headshots far more difficult.

But I've played it a lot recently and it's really grown on me. Many bugs have been fixed since the major changes, and the inventory is quite effective once you get used to it. I'm loving the complicated skill and item leveling system, it adds a lot of depth and gives you strategic choices in your quest to survive the hordes. I have a very nice GPU (970 GTX) and personally have had no performance issues even during massive horde fights, and have had zero bugs in my 15+ hours of playing the last few days.

I played back in the alpha 9/10/11 days and loved it, but I daresay I'm having more fun now. Kudos to the developers for pushing through and improving the game while community support has waned.

I have played 7 days for a while, just recently got back into it and I have to say I love the changes they have made, the little quests will help out new players, the new crafting interface is well constucted and the crafting menu still blows me away. There is a lot of detail in the crafting system which I love. It's not just a zombie hoard in this game it's a loot hoard.
This game after months of playing still gives me the heebeegeebies, I hide like a little kid and if talking to my buddies I lower my voice thinking the zombies will hear me if I talk to loud. The sounds they make give me the chills and I just want to turn my computer off and never turn it on again. But as a grown adult I tell myself it's just a damn game...LOL..

I have owned this game since the ground was Minecraft cubes. I have a million (okay, that's hyperbole) other games and this is the one I always keep coming back to. I've watched as the land has smoothed out, a skill tree has been added, trees and zombies have been beautified, and additional zombies have been added, among other things.

If you are listening to a review from someone who has recently downvoted because of an upgrade, keep in mind that The Fun Pimps are constantly monitoring player feedback and responding to it. Ultimately, this is an alpha and there will be times when things happen that take away an aspect of the game that you are used to or that is part of your usual play style, but you can try a new play style for a while then return to it when it's reintroduced after The Fun Pimps are able to respond to the complaints.

Now, how about some pros and cons from someone who has some real gameplay in?

Pros:
Continual work from The Fun Pimps. I don't think any other alpha can boast this kind of attention from its creators.

Certain levels of hilarity.

You can make Lucille!

The game runs beautifully on my $500 laptop that is overloaded with programs for college.
Creative play

Biome Variety

Skill Improvement Increases Damage, Item Quality, Access to New Skills.

Building materials respond to zombie damage in a logical manner.

Physics are logical.

Choice of randomly generated world or predetermined world.

POIs everywhere to loot.

Many challenging things to craft and improve.

New quests to be accepted or not.

Zombies aren't the only things to hunt.

You're never truly safe.

Combat requires technique and improves with practice.

Today is my last day of finals (Okay, not relevant to 7 Days to Die, but definitely a pro in my life).

Cons (Build 14.8)

You have to kill dogs (Yeah, it should be on doesthedogdie/gaming.com (I made the gaming part up...the website just exists for movies).

Caves can be too steep leading to unexpected injuries and difficulty leaving.

I had a couple of games where zombies just disappeared and wouldn't spawn, despite setting enemy spawn rate to the max.

Water slows you when walking through it and I think that swimming should be faster than walking.

Temperature system is still wonky.

Bears. I hate bears. Bears are sneaky jerks that don't fight fair.

Verdict:

If you don't like change, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't have patience, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't like challenging combat, don't get this game.

If you like variety and seeing how a game grows over time, get this game.

If you like the idea of going from a guy or gal in his or her underwear to a survival king or queen, get this game.

If you like creating things that become better and better quality as time passes, get this game.

I bought 7 days to die for myself and a friend in a Post-Final exams splurge.
Accidentially pulled a 24-hour gaming session. Barely survived zombies on day 14 tunneling underneath our base, forcing us to go out into the night.

It's almost needless to say that this game has captured my attention and my heart.
tl;dr
I wholeheartedly recommend this game, even though it is in alpha.

This is my list of pros and cons, as of 5/12/16:

PROS
  • Amazingly immersive gameplay.
  • Incredible diversity of crafting options.
  • Scavenging feels intense and exciting.
  • Power-gathering materials is immensely rewarding and oddly calming.
  • Good balance between realistic and simple mechanics for
  • Vast options for difficulty settings, not just in terms of combat, but also regarding death penalties, loot rarity, Length of daylight, in-game time compared to real life time settings, and much more. You'll never feel that this game is "too easy".

CONS
  • /STACK OVERLOAD
  • /STACK OVERLOAD EXCEPTION
  • DOGS, MAN. If you get an unlucky spawn and find yourself being chased by dogs before you have at least a level 100 bow, you're dead.
  • Melee combat needs tweaking for hit detection and range, ESPECIALLY on multiplayer.
  • Ranged weapon aimpoints need adjustment (not aligning with weapon).
  • Rare Glitch: Corpses disappearing immediately after killing zombies.
  • Occasionally, Enemy Pathing leads them to eitirely avoid

Probably the best survival & crafting game ever made. You can never get bored, there's always something to do and gives you the "just one more turn"-ish kind of addiction. Although still in Alpha i can 100% say that i've seen games released by major studios in a way worse state than this "alpha". Very active developers, releasing patches very often.
If you want a game that's really about survival, building and crafting - this is the one.

Been wanting to invest time in this for years off and on. Review continues to be updated

As of this writing, 14.5 horde bug (feral horde spawning and running right for your X,Y cords every night) makes it near unplayable.
Bumped to experimental 14.6, feral bug seems fixes, but spawning still broken (such as spawning inside small house (15x15 blocks) you secured as you log in, or spawning on the street behind (5 feet away or so) just seconds after you checked). Feral Walkers on day 21 absurd jump in difficulty for two lvl 30 players (5 shotgun blasts to the face meant nothing for them).
Even watched a zombie spawn (14.5 build) inside the back yard in the Land Claim Block footprint, walk into the house, up the stairs, break down bedroom door, and walk to and start hitting land claim block while we followed him 4-5 blocks behind.

Fun voxel game I think, but continuely plagued by really bad Zombie AI and spawn/generation. The game really has two strong selling points, the crafting/minging/building aspect, and the zombie survial aspect. Sadly, the buggy latter completely invalidates the former.

Awesome game! It's a great game to get 2-4+ friends together and batton down the hatches. There's various roles to play which can be done solo, or divided among your friends.. Everything from Looting towns, crafting items, building a base, mining ect.. I have a game with a few buddies we've probably each put 50+ hours into and keep exploring/ making new Forward Operating Bases. There's something new around every corner to keep you entertained.

Hard facts after 770 hours of gameplay

I gotta say that this game is not what i payed for and changed a lot mostly to the worse. It used to be fun but it becomes more and more of a ridiculous grindfest and if u have a job or you study but want to get far in the game then forget it...
(i played in a group of 4 and it was still just lots of grinding with no end)
The developers try to force you to spent more time in game by making simple things more complicated with every so rare patch instead of actaully adding new content to the game that would keep u busy on advanced stages. On advanced stages its exactly as boring as it was, now it will just take you longer to get there.. trough lots boring and time consuming endless grinding...
Terrible , lazy solution if you ask me.

PROS:
Great Building aspect.

CONS:

- Object/Weapons textures could be way better i mean even the original not HD Skyrim was better and that game is like what 3-4 years old now?The landscape textures are just bad, but they added HD light effects? set your priorities straight...
Sound quality is super cheap. Game performance is poorly optimized if you can talk about optimization at all.

-Glitchy graphics like see trough ground textures. You may eventualy fall trough such a glitch into a endless fall.
Glitching terrain textures which will form some awkward shapes and block your path so you could even get stuck in them.

-Glitchy zombie animations (which can get you killed)

-Lags ,many lags, even if your machine fits the optimal requirments or is above.

- Finding a decent community is very hard.

- Too many hackers and no decent protection to keep them out.

- Leveling... Well this is the worst level/upgrade system you ever saw besides of the fact that it kills immersion and dances on its grave, It just feels not realistic and annoying as if it was pushed in just to exist because hey all other games have that so lets kinda have one too.All the drops are now level adjusted says you have no chance of getting any even partly decent weapon/tool. It sells it self as a realistic survival game right, says it depends on scavenging and looting for things which will help you to keep the fight and stay alive... those are things which depend on luck , you should be able to find something great or trash... here you will find only trash till you get to a higher level no exception. Where is the thrill of what is in the next house im going to loot? What keeps me motivated to go on? 20 more levels of trash and no hope? probably not.

-Extreme time consuming farming for resources. I get it here they wanted to make it suddnly more realistic on this part right? And they did it, exactly on the spot where no one would like it to be.
I mean did i buy a mining or wood chopping simulator and didnt know it?
If i would love to spent hours and hours on braking stone and chopping wood i could as well just go outside now and do it in real life.
Immersion is great but not in everything.

- Bugs spawn endless stream of hordes for several days which will ♥♥♥♥ your base.
At this moment kiss your ammo good bey (which is hard to get) not only because the hords will really not end but also because now you will miss your target even if you aim dead on.
Why? Because you dont have the skill points spent on this type of a weapon.... and that is supposed to be a ego shooter? a game where your true aim doesnt count for sh*t?

-You will spent most of the day just eating and drinking or searching for food and drink. There is no end to your thirst and hunger.

- Now the furnace takes like two hours or so (real life time) just to let you use the resources u grinded hours for already. And that is only for you to be able to start crafting and that doesnt include the long crafting times yet.

- The weapons and tool crafting system is insanely bad, back in time you would have to advance from wood to iron to steel as far as you would get those... now u have to level up tool smithing to insanity just to get a dam pickaxe which will not break after some couple of hits. I dont start on the guns.

- Devs dont listen to the community and seem only to fix things which are ultimatly game breaking while closing eyes on other known bugs.

- Fixes take too long or dont happen in some cases, even though they tend to releas some hot fixes after every patch there are too many bugs which survived over a very long period of time.

- I see no new content for almost a year and god this game lacks on that.
And when they do add some little new thing to the game, that thing is going to be bugged!
like those mini bikes, that took you hours maybe days to put together and would glitch trough the ground on your first ride saying bey bey. just one of many examples.

-PvP is crap. Besides the hackers that will destroy your base no one can raid anyone! Because of the land-claim block which makes buildings indestructible.
Again one point where they need more immersion but hey stone chopping realism was top priority i guess so they had to leave the less important game aspects out.

I could go on for a longer list but i think this is enough info to form a opinion on the product.
Its very sad how they keep ruining this game.
And by now the game it self looks like a dead end. Sadly i see no future for this project, I would be happy if they would prove me wrong though.

Do i recommend this game? No, definitly not anymore!
I would strongly recommend to not buy it at the current stage.

I used to enjoy this game very much, but recent patches have broken the game to the point where it either doesn't launch, or is extremely buggy when playing. I would love to change my review to Recommend the game once glaringly obvious bugs are fixed (I've tried playing on both Linux and OS X).

Liked the game just fine, until I got banned from their forums for posting about a REAL issue that I was having. Some Moderator banned me "PERMENANTLY" from their forums for posting about a simple problem I was having with their game and my version of Windows. He/She said I was "trolling". If expressing a problem that you're having with someones game is trolling, a lot of people are going to get banned. This was uncalled for and until the ban is lifted, there wont be more thought given to my recommendation or to this game!

If you have yet to buy this game, I recommend waiting because the developers have cut a lot of content and have stated on their forums that this game is pretty much done. They (Mademole [aka Joel Huenink]) have stated that they are artists and not coders and this has lead to them removing anything new they add because it leads to game breaking bugs that they can't figure out how to fix. It has also been stated that all of the things they want to add to the game are going to be saved for the "sequel". This game had soo much potential but it was all wasted. If you want to play with single player or host for maybe a friend or two, you should be fine. This game was built on singleplayer and multiplayer just won't work properly. That is why The Fun Pimps are reducing Random Generated map sizes and recommending a MAXIMUM of only 8 players on the server at a time. Unless you want to pay $100 a month for a beast of a dedicated server or build your own box, follow their recommendation.

P.S. The Fun Pimps are saying otherwise but lately the game has been optimized for a surprise console release via Telltale Games. This is why a lot of content got cut. The developers don't have enough memory to work with because the game is built on x32. Just recently a lot of players were having problems because the x64 launcher wasn't even working properly. They were forced to use the x32.

I bought this game some time ago and enjoyed my time with it, even though I had trouble running it on my rig at the time.
Recently I decide to reinstall it to see how much it's changed and, honestly, it's worse than I remember it. The optimization is no better than it was a year and a half ago, running like hot garbage on my rig which more than meets the recommnded specs. The mouse sensitivity is all sorts of messed up no matter what setting it's on, some of the textures honestly look worse than whan I originally bought it, the new crafting system is needlessly complex, the combat is absolutely awful, and I just can't recommend this game to anyone looking to buy it for $25. I really miss what the game was a year and a half ago because, honestly, it's not worth it.

It got this game a while ago and honestly didn't really like it too much, but that was probably because I was new to the whole craft/survival thing, and the game did not do a great job at making it easy to understand how to survive, but now the game is very friendly to start, and the crafting interface is extremely easy to understand even if you are picking up the game for the first time. With the added skill trees and the natural progression you gain from just doing random things such as using a bow or crafting is a really nice added feature.

The game definitely gives you chills, and you can't hide forever, The zombies WILL find you, and one night what ever little shack you decided to stay the night in will be destroyed and you will have to run while a horde of sprinting zombies chase you down. Hope you have good stamina or GGWP.

I did come across a nice place located in the middle of a river, (coordinates 580N, 70E) I've been shacking up here and it survived an attack from a horde, if you are having trouble this is definitely a good place to set up camp

Overall this is a very good game, and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a scary survival game.

Pro Tip: Don't fight bears.

Fun builder game with zombies and decent physics. Can really be nerve wracking when you're new at this... and sometimes it can be hard to start out. Beware of dogs.

The biggest nit-pick is that it seems the devs are intent on making this more and more brutal with each iteration. Oh, new build? Let's see what they did. Oh look, dogs still don't obey the movement speed that can be set, and the harder zombies seem to be getting even tougher.

At least they got rid of the need for books---in some cases. It'd be nice if they'd get rid of it completely.

Still would recommend---it's constantly being worked on and is shaping up to be one of the best builder/survival games to date.

I got this game about a week ago and I have had nothing but problems. The game crashes to my desktop every time I try to enter a world or server. I have looked all over but found nothing.
