A10.4 B10 Hotfix is out!

Happy New Year Survivalists,
We fixed a problem where some mesh instances were set improperly to static resulting in framerate loss and lag. From our testing this fix has improved framerate for everyone.

This patch is save game, network and backward compatible with A10.4 b9

Building on survivalist and horror themes, players in 7 Days to Die can scavenge the abandoned cities of the buildable and destructible voxel world for supplies or explore the wilderness to gather raw materials to build their own tools, weapons, traps, fortifications and shelters. In coming updates these features will be expanded upon with even more depth and a wider variety of choices to survive the increasing dangers of the world. Play alone or with friends, run your own server or join others.

7 Days to Die development was launched following a successful Kickstarter campaign in August 2013, demonstrating the initial prototype. Joining us in early access now will help support the cause and ensure continued expansion of the development team, their efforts and the planning and addition of even more features and depth eagerly awaited by fans.

Many of our fans have commented in these early stages that they feel we are building the survival\zombie game they have always wanted. Our goal is to live up to this as much as we can and build a customizable, moddable game that allows users to fine tune their survival and zombie experience to create the experience players and their friends want.



  • Random World Generation - Play Navezgane or roll the dice and dive back into the game with friends in a randomized world with huge cities, towns, rivers, lakes, mountains, valleys, roads and wilderness locations.
  • Create and Destroy - The world terrain, structures and items can be destroyed or scrapped for resources. Re-purpose collected materials to build custom structures and fortification by hand, placing building pieces into the world in real time.
  • Terrain Enhancement - The terrain is now both smooth and natural but can still be destroyed and mined.
  • Upgradable Fort Building - Player built structures are assembled from framework which can be upgraded supporting wood, cobblestone and concrete upgrade paths. Hammer away just like real building and use Land Claim blocks to protect your fort in PvP.
  • Structural Integrity - Buildings and terrain formations which are too unstable can fall apart if proper supports are not built. Some building materials are stronger than others and pieces which break off and fall can be dangerous or deadly if they fall on you or enemies.
  • Item Crafting & Degradation - With a continually growing list of over 250 recipes, gather resources such as plant fibers, wood and metal to create weapons and tools such as hand made crossbows, knives and hammers. As your tools wear out over time, use your crafting skills to repair them.
  • Plants and Animals - Locate seeds to plant and grow vegetables, and head out into the wilderness to hunt animals once the cabinets in abandoned buildings are already plundered.
  • Stealth System - Sneak past zombies who can see, hear and smell you and smelly items in your inventory and throw rocks to distract them.
  • Buff/Debuff System – Enjoy or deal with a multitude of buffs or debuffs like a caffeine buzz or a broken leg in our rapidly growing Buff/Debuff System with over a dozen boosts or ailments.
  • Cooperative Mode - Tired of zombie apocalypses that are more about fighting humans than zombies? Team up with your friends to work with other survivors rather than against them, using group efforts to build settlements and safety.
  • Character Customization - Full Character creation system with face/body morphing, custom skin, eye, hair color, facial hair and a multitude of visible clothing and armor.

  • World Building Tools and Mod Support - Greatly expanded creation tools for players to create their own apocalypse for them and their friends, including Steam Workshop support.

  • Skills System – Earn XP and upgrade your skills to become the ultimate Bruiser, Gun Nut, Gadget Man, Chemist or Stealth Agent.
  • Missions & Story Points- Do favors for NPC characters in return for experience and rewards, and learn more about what has happened in the world.

I'm writing this review after clocking a good amount of playtime and hope my lengthy review can be of some use to new/current/veteran/potential players. It's always good to start with the good:

THE PROS
  • This game is the love-child of The Walking Dead (TV show) and Minecraft
  • Relatively friendly interface and easy-to-play (a contradiction noted in the THE CONS)
  • Great sandbox experience; allowing players to adopt any playstyle they choose would suit them in the apocalypse: hoarder, scavenger, murderer, good samaritan.. with amazing potential for roleplay experience!
  • Huge list of craftable weapons whether they be melee or firearms; each with their own advantages.
  • Huge list of craftable materials which can be used to manipulate a fully functional envrionment (if you see it, you can destroy it)
  • Good balance between "risk/reward" and "time spent in-game/achievement"
  • Great modding options for setting-up servers to suit your playstyle

THE CONS - The majority of which are experienced in multiplayer games.
  • This is Alpha. Be careful if you choose to buy/play this game. It is riddled with bugs/glitches/cheats/hacks.
  • Complaining or asking for help on official forums in relation to multiplayer games, will be met with: "This is alpha", "Go play single-player", "This is alpha!", "Join a server with your friend", "THIS IS ALPHA!"
  • Unfriendly interface for joining multiplayer games. I still have no idea what some of those 'filter' options mean/do and there is nothing in-game that explains them; not even on the wiki or offical website.
  • Anti-cheat system doesn't work
  • Frustratingly annoying to connect directly to a friend's game. Port-forwarding, etc
  • No option to "type only to friends" or "private whisper" in-game. All typing is global.
  • Relatively slow updates from the devs
  • Rocket launchers, advanced military sniper rifles and fully-automatic machine guns *sigh* (A personal "con" for me, as it destroys the immersion of a zombie apocalypse)
  • Single player soon becomes extremely tedious/pointless.

Known Cheats/Exploits
  • No-clip. Players can shoot through walls, floors, etc.
  • Duplicate items. Players can stack/duplicate items.
  • Track bedroll. Players can track another player's base after he/she places a bedroll.
  • Invisible killing. Players can attack another player from anywhere on the map.
  • Flying.
  • Item spawning.

Despite there being more CONS, the PROS significantly outweigh them.

Hope this helps. I strongly recommend this game. Buy it.

I have found it quite difficult to write a review for this early-access game.
Having some 200 hours beneath my belt on it, I feel that I have tested out a lot of the game.

I will start out by saying that I liked earlier iterations of the game, so this will undoubtedly colour my perception.

First off the basic.
It is a survival/horror FPS crafting game.
Still in Alpha. (Alpha 10.4 if I remember correctly at the moment of writing).
A lone survivor (in single player) or one of the few (in Multi player) living in a world infested with zombies.

The task of the player is to survive.
This is achieved by collecting resources, killing zombies and crafting places to stay safe.

What is this? What is that? Woah! A big world.
The game has a wonderful big world. It comes in two iterations. Navezgane, which is a pre-designed world with all biomes and cities. And then a random generated world.
In both cases the game world is a representation of an alternative earth, filled with Zombies and empty towns and cities. Ruins, ghost towns and broken cars litter the landscape.
Everything from a scrap of paper, to a gun, to glass-beakers can be found in this world. And this is important because...

Resources. Always resources.
A big part of the game is collect materials that will help the player to stay alive. And this is, in short a big task to do, though not impossible. This is very similar to Minecraft in that respect, where the player starts with hitting bushes or trees and the grass. Find a rock and the player is that much closer to make a stone axe.
But unlike Minecraft, this game happens in an Earth-like world, where houses, cars and dumping grounds can be found, with materials fitting quite nicely. Thanks to this, the game can present something quite extensive, which is...

Building my tiny house.
The biggest strength of the game is it's crafting system. Minecraft players will feel at home and be marvelled by the variety of crafting possibilities.
As stated above, the large variety of materials means that the player can craft everything from the basic stone axe, to a high powered sniper rifle along with housing ranging from dirt-huts to big iron bunkers.

Game mechanics
One of the things that put 7dtd apart from Minecraft is its graphics. I will not dwell to much on this, but it gets the job done. Look pretty good and the latest version of the world works fairly well, with the ground being made up of diamonds, rather than squares, which gives a more organic feeling to it, compared to the blocky Minecraft. (Though, personally, I was quite fond of the square building-blocks the world was made of in earlier iterations)
However. On with also learn that this game incorporates physics, which means that the player cannot just build a platform in the air, without some form of support. Personally I have tried to carve out a huge cave under a lake, only to have the cave collapse on me because the roof could no longer support it self. Wood, stone and metal have different values in hit-points, weight and carrying capability. On will enjoy trying to build a large bridge or fortress, making sure that it is sound in structure...

Engine
However... from a technical standpoint, the engine and render that the game runs on is somewhat poorly optimised. This became very appearant with one of the later updates, where the game suddenly starts to lag or gets low fps, which is quite annoying. I am sure that the developers are working on this and it will be fixed in later updates, since this was not a problem before.

Killing and slaughter
Another part of the game lies in killing zombies of different types. This is either done by melee or ranged. And range is done by the use of firearms. It is done quite well, even at this fairly early stage and the developers are working on improving it in later versions.

Would I recommend this game?
I will have to say yes.
I did have a lot of issues with the game after an update, which limited the players ability to craft certain things until a book was read giving a specific recipe. (This is the forge-recipe we are talking about). Coupled with the unoptimised engine, I felt that the game had been broken, both technically and game-play wise.
However. I decided to play again, lowered the graphics a bit, started a random generated world to see whether or not it was impossible to actually achieve what I wanted.
With this, the game gave me a pleasant surprise and I am back in it again.

So... for those of you, who wants a time-sink, while building a castle, surviving, hunting or even trapping zombies this is a game for you.
For those unsure at this point, wait for a while until Beta arrives. The developers update often and the game is showing good progress and potential.

This was my two cents and as a last remark, I would mention that I really enjoy this game myself.

I was searching for antibiotics to cure my dysentery, and I happened upon a barn. I went in, climbed the ladder to the second floor, and saw a nice hay bale. I picked the hay bale up and the roof suddenly caved in, hit the floor, and then the floor caved in. Dysentery was then the least of my problems, as I lay dead in the shell of the once proud barn.

10/10 would pick up hay bale again.

Truly a wonderful game to play with friends. would recommend for person wanting some good time to spend with friends and love ones :)

I've never played a better early access game than this one, It has so much potential and is definitely worth the $25.
I would recommend 7 Days to Die to anyone that enjoys open world survival games.

Over the 85 hours I've played this game I have never come accross a bug or glitch, this has surprised me tremendously and continues to impress myself and friends.
This game has a lot to it and continues to add more things to occupy the community and multiplayer servers, however, after you make your perfect base, have immense amounts of food and water etc it can become boring and repetitive at times.
I do believe that as the game develops many more things will be added and that feeling will be no more.

So my personal thoughts on why I would recommend this game-

Updates: The Devs are frequently updating this game.
Bugs: Hardly found and when they are they are quickly removed.
Community/Servers: Many friendly people, easy to team up with and assist others.
Crafting: Crafting is one of the many things that make this game impressive and enjoyable, the crafting system is unique and has various amounts of recipes.

Would I discourage you to get this game? No not at all.
This game personally has definitely earned its place on my favourites list.

However please be aware that is game is early access and you may come accross bugs, errors or other things that may effect your gameplay but if your okay with that go ahead and buy it.
You won't regret it.

With about 45 hours played and several late night sessions with buddies, I am really enjoying myself with this game.

As it is still in Alpha, obviously the game isn't perfect. But with that being said this is easily one of the best early access games I have had the oppurtunity to be a part of.

The game has an awesome feel to it, from the eerie noises that come randomly, to the distinct sound each set of zombie makes I have no choice but to appreciate the effort that has already been put into this game. One of my favorite things so far is the unique biomes that 7D2D has implemented.

From the cool, innocent looking spring setting with green grass and red chrysanthumums, to the winter/snow biome with unique zombies for that enviroment. You'll be looking for an airdrop one day that takes you from the desert to the creepy wasteland into the city and the next thing you know savage dogs will be chasing you and you'll be wishing you stayed back at camp!

There's many fun and exciting moments to be had in 7D2D, so if anyone reading this is into zombie survival games I would highly recommend this one.

+ With frequent updates and patches from the Devs, it's hard not to want to support this up and coming gem.

Tja also nach 34.4 stunden sowohl MP als SP kann ich folgendes sagen:
1. Grafik nicht die Welt ist aber ein relativ kleines Game und hat ein super Konzept
2. Das Gameplay einfach nur lustig
3. Man muss immer gewappnet sein menüpause: was ist das? ;)
4. Alles muss gecraftet werden eine Schusswaffe zu finden ist so wahrscheinlich wie alle Zombies zu töten

Well after about 34.4 hours i would say i could comment on it ( even i Played both modes SP and MP)

1. Graphics aren't the worst but not the best, the game data aren't this big so its a pretty nice concept
2.Gameplay: well killing your friend or work togehter, bashing zombies, building your "Castle" or just farming on your potato farm,... this game got everything you won't ( and no it's not LIKE MINECRAFT!, because the graphics are about 4747743837474 better and funnier then minecraft ( GLITCHES EVERYWHERE!))
3. always be alerted, zombies are everywhere and kind of In-game-menu-pause doesn't exist ( game's runnign all the time)

4. Crafting is Life: you may find a pistol or two but that's it. you have to craft most of the things you need. thats what makes it interesting

5. all in all :

AT FIRST YOU WILL HATE IT... AFTER 2h you will just hate the zombies spawning and crawling in front of you House ( or even house)

For those of you who love to kill, loot, craft, survive, farm, build and cooperate. Welcome to 7 days to die

if graphics don't matter to you then this game is jewel
lots of time has been sunk into building my impenetrable bunker deep beneath a lake.

Forge your self alies in the world and scavange for that much needed food, metal and ammo.

You'll quickly note that this game pays for itself after you have picked it up.

However still in early access and as has been showen before that your world and all the hard work could be wiped in the near future. worth picking up and playing still and you'll enjoy every moment of the bad graphics as zombies and dogs chase you down, tear your house appart and rend the flesh from your bones. got a sniper rifle? dont lose it unless you have a mold to create a new one.

You will spend a lot of time competeing over supply drops as a lot of weapon crafting can only be done by dismatling and taking molds of the guns in those boxes, procedually generated nonblocky world is a pleasure to run around in, enimies and AI are some what lacking (they are zombies after all) enviromental hazards and hordes are abound, then everything changes at night...

9/10 due the server wipes, will increase this after the game is fully released

If you love creating a la minecraft and love zombies, this is a great concept of a game. Though I've never played it fully in singleplayer, that's probably the best way to go, or on a secure private server well monitored by mods and admins.
I spent weeks building far away from noob spawn in a tungsten base. Next I set up a base at hub city/noob spawn covered by over 64 claim blocks. Once a cheater found it would be incredibly hard to break into my base, they just reassigned all claim blocks to themselves, taking ownership of my base. Thus, weeks of effort are easily wiped out in a matter of seconds by individuals with no integrity. :p What's the point in keeping interested in a game so exploitable? Guess I'm forced to stay way out in fringes. Kind of makes the point moot. (PvP server, btw.)
So while I recommend it, in concept, your experience may vary. We'll see what comes as it matures.

7 Days to Die is a very good sandbox/zombie game especially when played with friends. I play this most days with my partner (she loves the game and plays very little else). The feel of the game is very good and the night times can be truly intense if you caught out in the open, and even in your base when a full horde comes it can get very intense.

Things I like:

- Building is pretty solid at the moment, especially if you install one of the modded recipe packs

- Defence is a lot of fun and you can be very inventive

- Cities are great fun to raid provided you don’t go in guns blazing

- Graphics are not bad for an indie though with alpha 11 it looks like they will get a major update

- Combat is straight forward and feels about right in my own eyes.

- Crafting system is good again is event better with the modded recipe packs I Have not played on public server's so can’t give a review of them as we play on our own private server

Things that could do with a bit of an update:

- Building variety/biomes feel a little repetitive in random generated maps, a modded prefab pack improves the buildings but the zones still feel a bit cut and paste at times. Alpha 11 will be changing the random gen so this may well change very soon.

- Need to add some prolonged goals other than getting the Sniper Rifle/Magnum, yes this is a sand box but still needs some long term things to work for - skill system may fix this to some extent but they need to add some areas that are a lot harder to loot/get in to until your better skilled/equipped or something.

- Mining/chopping feels a bit slow but this is probably to stop people destroying your base to fast on PvP servers.

Overall for an alpha this is a very good game that I would recommend to people as a must buy, I know there are probably better looking games but the feel of this game just sits well with me. It is so much better with friends than solo this I cannot stress enough.

I have had this game for quite some time but had not gotten around to playing it. I kept checking back and reading reviews and forums to see how it was coming along even though I owned a copy. I was waiting to see when it reached a point where family and friends might decide to dive in. That point was reached a few weeks ago.

I downloaded the Dedicated Server and fired it up in my house. Myself and two of my sons jumped into it and spent A LOT of time dying. We loved every minute of it. We could immediately see it could be a challenge and it had a lot of things to do. The effects of drinking unpurified water from lakes, rivers, etc and getting the little squatting and pooping icon in the lower left corner while you run around with the effects of diarhea is just one of numerous funny things. However, the game is serious and even though that is funny it is a serious thing and is simulated as such. It is only funny to realize the game simulates to that level and can be quite amusing.

As this game is in early access it keeps getting better and better. This is all my son, and wife have been playing for about two weeks straight now. They'd put spikes strategically in river crossing points for zombie hordes, they've built towers for sniper posts, they've dug and built larger underground homes with large amounts of storage, they've established corn, cotton, coffee, potato, blueberry, and other farms near their location.

They currently exploit a bug where if you are deep underground and stand close to a wall and look up it will clip and you can see the surface way above you and watch the hordes of zombies wander around. This game is very stable from our experience, has a ton of features, and is for the most part bug free. It has come a long way and can be a lot of fun.

Also, if you've wanted a more co-op Zombie Survival game than the DayZ fare and don't really want to deal with the PvP aspects that is an option here. However, it can be also run in the free for all style where newbs are fair game to camping veterans who hunt them. Our personal dedicated server this is not a problem and we just deal with surviving and exploring in the environment.

It does have a standard map that it uses, but it also generates random maps that work really well.

In this game surprisingly the DESERT biome is a nice place to be. You can survive on Cactus fruit, and make Yuka Juice. :) It has quite a number of Biomes.

More realism is hopefully coming in the future such as greater thirst in deserts, and needing to have clothes or something suitable in the winter environments. Those would be nice features. They'd make the game harder, but that only extends its challenge and longevity.

I very much recommend this game.

For the Unity haters out there. This game is made with Unity but functions very well.

tl;dr

Insane potential, gets boring too soon, too little content and MP is broken. Will probably become awesome but it needs time to be refined and built up. Devs seem like they will make it a good game unlike almost every other Alpha.




I have put in about 110 hours total in this game and it is a conflicting experience to say the least. It seemed like Fallout 3's RTS, Zombie Apolcalypse, and Fallout Wanderer's Edition mods combined with Minecraft and State of Decay. The first few hours made me want to pull my hair out as the learning curce was incredibly steep but after I picked it up I mastered the game almost instantly. After I have topped the cliff to learn how to play I simply found everything in the game to be pointless.

First off, I can say this game is conceptionally, what I have been wanting to see in a game for many years. Open World, Survival, Destructible Enviroment and Crafting. The problem is, once you have done all this there is nothing left to do. I suppose this may be a folly of be careful what you wish for but I can't help to think there is something more that can be done to really make it meaningful after completing your base. Once you learn how to make reinforced pine tipped spikes and build reinforced concrete the whole game basically means nothing. I mean you could make supply runs and farm but that just is boring. I could see something such as bandits, civilizaitons or maybe a mission or recurring missions etc possibly adding more value after the "Late Game" setting is done. Which, by the way is on the wiki; Early Game, Mid Game and Late Game are central parts of the experience and are outlined in the wiki. This is probably the most critical problem with the game as everything else is superb in single player. I can't help but feel that adding a plot or story or something more than just shoot zombies in a world of nobody else may make this one of the greatest titles on steam. I know MP is a thing but it doesn't work for me and it just results in .3-.5 FPS when I connect to a public server with more than 3 people in it.



The crafting is great at first but then it burns out rapidly. This is a simple problem that can be fixed with more content. Gunplay/shooting is pretty good, Devs actually know how to use Ironsights and for a general zombie shooter it is good. Don't expect much beyond pistol, rifle and shotgun though. A shooter is not the center of this game. Melee is actually pretty good and is very easy which it should be againt zombies. Day/Night/Lighting is very well done. Only grief about this is that there is no real dynamic weather such as snow/storms/dust/fog/zombie tornados etc. and that the lighting isn't 100% in completely black areas such as caves. Navezgane (Prebuilt, limited map) is pretty good but it is limited. RanGen maps are seemingly endless but much like Minecraft, they do suffer from computation glitches such as huge drop offs etc. Caves do not seem to be generated yet and all have to be built or made. Building and destroying is very well executed but the zombies do break things too fast in my opinion. I don't mind this much though as it is necessary for them to be slightly overpowered for the sake fo the game. Sound is rather poor and uses lots sounds common of Gamebyro/Source engine sounds. Leveling in the sound is pretty poor too, a death scream is barely audible and hitting a hammer on a car with literally blow your ears out while a 308 round going off is on the low end of things. Zombies act like zombies, they don't have much AI instead of walk/run towards something and punch/slap anything that stops them. Zombie variety is a good feature, all zombies generally have to be dealt with slightly more differently than others and special considerations must be used when base building. More variety would be nice however as there are only about 8ish zombies. Biomes are interesting but nothing special in my opinion. Cities are hit or miss from what I have seen, they are basically havens of god items and sometimes have literally no zombies in them or have a million plus a million and their dogs. Hordes are a mixed bag as well, you can set horde limits but that doesn't appear to do anything as sometimes you won't get a horde for 3 days but then for 4-7 days straight there will be 150 zombies spawning within 20-40 in game minutes. I don't mind this really but it is extremely annoying nonetheless. For setting up the game there are a ton of options which make it easy or impossible so that is a nice feature. Eating/Drinking/Energy are all pretty well implemented but they can be a bit extreme such as eating 7 baked potatoes a stew and 5 mason jars of water after walking around for an hour. Loot is limited and gets old/pointless once you start mining and have played the game for 5-7 hours.


The second biggest pet peeve for me is how awful this game runs. It is truly absurd, a game that looks like it was made in 2004 runs at 20 fps on a quad core CPU and 6970 GPU all while all settings are down at almost nothing and view distance is around 100 yards. I don't even think Occulusion culling is present nor proper multithreading it is very bad. It is also a massive ram hog. DO NOT BUY if you do not have at least 4gb of ram and at least 3 to dedicate to the game. If your Windows idles over 1gb of ram with nothing open then this game is going to be painful if you have 4gb or less. 4gb truly is the absolute minimum.

For right now I am going to not recommend this game as of Alpha 10 as it simply just ceases to be entertaining once you have done all that there is to do within 50-70 hours. There is also no Level Editor yet it simply says in the Main Menu that it will be included in a later release. I am close to recommending it however it is maybe 60/40. It just needs more purpose after you have a base built. After playing 1-2 games in SP it simply becomes find a chainsaw and auger to be king of the world. MP didn't work for my computer and everyone says it is nothing but hacks anyways and is essentially Day Z online 2.0 so I never bothered fixing it.

Maybe when there is more content, actual NPC's other than zombies and a functioning MP with some optimization will this game top Fallout 3 for my favorite game but it will be a good while before then I think. (The Devs seem to actually care about the game though so it may not be Alpha mode forever. *Cough* Day Z *Cough*)

Wicked game to play, really fun with friends and then some. Plus this is one of the better games I have come across when it comes to update to the alpha.
