Note this is should be compatible with all Alpha Alpha 14 on up saved games. We apologize for any of you who are still having trouble running the game. I have owned this game since the ground was Minecraft cubes. I have a million (okay, that's hyperbole) other games and this is the one I always keep coming back to. I've watched as the land has smoothed out, a skill tree has been added, trees and zombies have been beautified, and additional zombies have been added, among other things.

If you are listening to a review from someone who has recently downvoted because of an upgrade, keep in mind that The Fun Pimps are constantly monitoring player feedback and responding to it. Ultimately, this is an alpha and there will be times when things happen that take away an aspect of the game that you are used to or that is part of your usual play style, but you can try a new play style for a while then return to it when it's reintroduced after The Fun Pimps are able to respond to the complaints.

Now, how about some pros and cons from someone who has some real gameplay in?

Pros:
Continual work from The Fun Pimps. I don't think any other alpha can boast this kind of attention from its creators.

Certain levels of hilarity.

Biome Variety

Skill Improvement Increases Damage, Item Quality, Access to New Skills.

Building materials respond to zombie damage in a logical manner.

Physics are logical.

Choice of randomly generated world or predetermined world.

POIs everywhere to loot.

Many challenging things to craft and improve.

New quests to be accepted or not.

Zombies aren't the only things to hunt.

You're never truly safe.

Combat requires technique and improves with practice.

Today is my last day of finals (Okay, not relevant to 7 Days to Die, but definitely a pro in my life).

Cons (Build 14.8)

You have to kill dogs (Yeah, it should be on doesthedogdie/gaming.com (I made the gaming part up...the website just exists for movies).

Caves can be too steep leading to unexpected injuries and difficulty leaving.

I had a couple of games where zombies just disappeared and wouldn't spawn, despite setting enemy spawn rate to the max.

Water slows you when walking through it and I think that swimming should be faster than walking.

Temperature system is still wonky.

Bears. I hate bears. Bears are sneaky jerks that don't fight fair.

Verdict:

If you don't like change, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't have patience, don't get this, or any other Alpha game.

If you don't like challenging combat, don't get this game.

If you like variety and seeing how a game grows over time, get this game.

If you like the idea of going from a guy or gal in his or her underwear to a survival king or queen, get this game.

If you like creating things that become better and better quality as time passes, get this game.

I absolutley love this game. The building system is probably my favorite of any game so far. The crafting is alright, but nothing special IMO. I recommend making a really deep moat.

I have had this game over a year, what can I say that probably hasn't already been said.

Its a great game, I love worldcrafting, I love zombies, to be able to build your base, but all the time using your sound to make sure nothing is behind you, or having to keep looking out as you just never know.

If you're like me and love the idea of Horror Post apocolyptic world with an Indepth crafting system attached, then this is the game for you.

The screenshots on the storepage are very misleading, the game doesn't even look close to that level of quality.

Sound quality is ♥♥♥♥.
UI looks BLECKH.
Graphics for something that's been in development for 3 years should look better than this. I've taken ♥♥♥♥♥ that look more appealing than this game.

You could have the most extensive crafting system in the world, but if your game looks like Halflife 1 in 2016 eeehh...

Overall this game looks like the posterboy for early access purgartory along with ♥♥♥♥ing Hurtworld.

I still think this is a great game, worth the money for sure, I've played it since alpha 10 and even hosted my own sevrer. The only problem I see is the game seems to have been going in the wrong direction. I think it was almost perfect in alpha 11. All they had to do was make it look better and add more content at that point. Kinda sad it feels like its moving away from greatness not closer to it. The biomes make no sense now and the wonderful caves from alpha 11 are gone. The buildings in towns are football fields apart and the crafting has become so simplified its not even a real game component anymore. The looting system has gone downhill, forget finding anything useful till you beef up your skills, makes looting virtually pointless till well beyond day 7. Like I say, overall a fun game for the money but not the gem it used to be.

My god when ♥♥♥♥ hit the fan on night 7 i bearly made it out alive with the radio tower still in tact with most of the wooden spike traps sill arounnd but the loss of all my mines through my mine field and exploding berrals they just kept coming...thank god for the solid stand of the radio tower other wise my ♥♥♥ would be dead a long time ago gg great game great updates cant wait for more content to come :3

I like y=this game but have difficulty maintaining a stable frame rate,
It actually jumps and stutters and acts buggy even on the lowset settings.

If you are looking for a first person multiplayer zombie survival game with crafting and full base building elements, this is your game. The developers seem to be updating the game frequently, and have recently added in a skill system which opens up some additional character building and depth. Recommended.

One of the only games I see that works toward optimization. Optimization can break a game, like CK2, and Elite Dangerous.

Besides this, I want to mention pros and cons.

Pros are the survival aspect, because it is well done. You can dig yourself a shelter, and you can expect zombies to try and break in if they sense you, and that is very well done.

Pro is the graphics, and they are working toward better graphics side-by-side with optimization which is lovely.

These two pros combined leaves me developing a concrete base underground with nice bits of decoration, and a heartfelt feeling of calling that home.

Cons

The bugs are the fattest con I can think of besides hackers, terrible zombie spawns, death via random junk.

The second fattest con is the number of zombies in a game, and in multiplayer it's manageable, but in singleplayer even with the lowest amount of zombies you can have in the world they will swarm around you, and you need to live by sneaking everywhere which is just not playable, but only in singleplayer.

Overall I love this game, and I would highly suggest it if you like to play multiplayer, but certainly not if you would only play singleplayer, and want zombies.

What is there not to like about slaying zombies and building bases?

This game is pretty fun. It does have its frustrations just like the rest of the horror survival games but this one definately takes the cake in innovation. There are so many different recipies and such to choose from such as weapons, base blocks, cooking recipies, hydration recipes and tools. There are plenty of places to find resources, you just have to look around!

I have spent several hours over the last years checking out all of the updates and each time it has gotten better and the Devs are always looking at new things to impliment so if you have ideas, better take them to the forums!

Pros:
* Crafting System is Solid
* Weapons are balanced
* Can survive off of the land
* Day/Night Cycles seem to be balanced
* You have a rush in adrenaline while a horde spawns next to your base!

Cons:
* The waves depending on the size of your multiplayer game can be a bit overwhelming
* The Biomes seem to sometimes go on for miles before you finally find a different area for materials
* Resources sometimes do not respawn in areas where it should
* It is easy for another (On Multiplayer) to bust through a door of your base if you dont build it well

7 Days to Die has been one of the most immersive game experiences I've ever had.

I discovered this game upon the recommendation of a friend and gave it a shot, sometime during alpha 9 or 10. We both spawned in the wasteland and spent panicked hours trying to avoid the undead while scavenging what we could. So great was our noobishness that we'd actually chow down on raw eggs and old sham sandwiches in a pinch just to regain our hunger, ignorant to the fact that we were slowly poisoning and killing ourselves as we struggled to stay ahead of the dead and cowered on rooftops at night, listening to the rushed footsteps of sprinting zombies as they tried to sniff us out, emboldened and strengthened by the lack of sunlight.

I was a fool to think we were safe.

After repeated breaking of legs and the development of bloody diarrhea, dysentery and an infecton, I actually ended up killing myself to purge myself of my ailments and settled with my friend near the banks of a river, ignorant to what would happen to us on the 7th night or the fact that I was sacrificing my wellness, growing frail and weak as my max health and stamina was reduced to a whopping 60. Day 7 rolled by with no incidents, giving us more time to stockpile on resources and think we were safe in our hastily designed log cabin towers, guarded by nothing but stick-based spikes and amateur trenches dug into the soft sands of southwestern Navezgane.

Then Day 14 happened.

My friend was outside when a massive day horde approached our homes, watching helplessly as I ended up getting trapped, and surrounded in our besieged base. The buzzing of hornets and the groans and vomiting zombified police officers turning an otherwise beautiful day into a horror show. She managed to sneak back in, but spent the entire time having a panic attack as the undead began to eat at the foundations of our towers like termites, destroying everything we had worked for. Glancing out of the windows on the top floor, our attempts to snipe at the numerous walkers proved futile as we resigned ourselves to a slow death and complete loss of everything we had worked for in our first fourteen days of play...

Then we broke out the chainsaws.

In a surge of blood and gore, we -barely- managed to carve our way out through the undead and ran out into the surrounding desert with no supplies but the clothes on our backs and few jars of water and canned food we always kept on our persons. We contemplated quitting and starting over, but decided to push on and rebuild. After many running battles, we managed to reclaim our ruined towers before the evening rolled by, and spent a few nights huddled in the relative safety of one of the interior rooms, and scavenge what little supplies that had survived the onslaught while filling the holes with what little materials we could cobble together.

Then we found it...

A small campsite, isolated and on the other side of a hill where our original ruined towers stood. For some reason, we decided to settle there, digging deep underground and building a series of bunker networks that we connected into one super-compound. With our supplies safe, we built connecting tunnels to a nearby town and heavily fortified one of the buildings there with every material we could find back then, sandstone, sand, stone, wood, scrap metal, you name it. We made a point to make our stand there every 7 days, retreating into our tunnels when the going got tough, which was pretty much every single day until day 35.

After a long and terrible night...

We managed to keep the Horde out, and surged out of our bunker during the day to meet them head on. After mopping up the remnants, we squared off against multiple waves before the undead fell silent, we had avenged our horrible defeat at day 14. To commemorate our victory, we built a giant tower with a sniper perch and elegant roof over our bunker, complete with beer coolers and chairs. We named it Isengard, surrounding our perimeter with layers and layers of (then-invulnerable) log cabin spikes and smashed the undead repeatedly from that day 35 onward. Gone were the days of our frailty as our wellness surged to 200, replacing old sham sandwiches with meat stew, blueberry pie and goldenrod tea. We even went back to our old base and refurbished it, combining our two towers into one giant platform where we housed giant, closed farm, connected to our main base through a series of tunnels. This lasted until a patch-induced server wipe ended our adventure, but we had learned valuable lessons. We were hardened.



In short,

10/10, would get bloody diarrhea and build Isengard again.

I have played 7 days for a while, just recently got back into it and I have to say I love the changes they have made, the little quests will help out new players, the new crafting interface is well constucted and the crafting menu still blows me away. There is a lot of detail in the crafting system which I love. It's not just a zombie hoard in this game it's a loot hoard.
This game after months of playing still gives me the heebeegeebies, I hide like a little kid and if talking to my buddies I lower my voice thinking the zombies will hear me if I talk to loud. The sounds they make give me the chills and I just want to turn my computer off and never turn it on again. But as a grown adult I tell myself it's just a damn game...LOL..

I played this game before Steam and was a very excited supporter of early access. Most of my 200+ hours were spent in the first few months came out. I enjoyed the crafting options for buildings, tools, weapons. The combat was loads of fun, and I had an amazing time using the many different ways to kill zombies with traps, weapons and environmental destruction. I was hooked after a Gas station explosion chained to all the oil drums as a zombie horde attacked.

I know games change in Early Access and I do feel that I got my money's worth for the time I played. Sadly, I currently find the game unplayable. Some of the biggest issues for me are...
- Zombies can hit you farther out than you can hit them with a melee weapon (Absolutely horrendous in multi player, but still bad in single player). I have a 2-3 foot spiked club and can't hit the zombie punching me from 4-6 blocks away!?!
- The cross hair targeting for any weapon is randomly inaccurate. (Enjoy wasting all that ammo you spent hours gathering resources for and forced time spent crafting it up?)
- Crafting has become overly complex, not in options, but with the steps you have to go through to even find what you need to craft in the GUI menu's. (Can't see the recipe for the mini bike frame, unless inside the forge GUI)
- AI glitching. (Watching zombies circle 4 blocks for a few mins before killing it or having one run away from you in the middle of a fight, is funny to watch but not great game play.)
- Terrain glitches (Fall through the world to your death anyone?)

I'm not including frame rates, or view distance issues, due to not being able to test properly on different computers.

Many people have found ways to work around the glitch-ridden combat and just accept the obtuse crafting mechanics, but I don't feel that I should have to do that for a game about killing zombies and crafting for base creation. I would rather watch it on YouTube.

Being able to have a zombie fall and crawl at me, after hitting them in the leg is great, but if I can't attack or kill it due to glitches, sloppy targeting, or a weapon blocking the screen, then I personally can't enjoy it.

At this point I feel, that having more time and money may have caused a loss of focus on game play. I loved this game before and want to again. Hopefully the Fun Pimps will be able to correct these issues at some point. If that happens, I will happily change this review.

Probably the best survival & crafting game ever made. You can never get bored, there's always something to do and gives you the "just one more turn"-ish kind of addiction. Although still in Alpha i can 100% say that i've seen games released by major studios in a way worse state than this "alpha". Very active developers, releasing patches very often.
If you want a game that's really about survival, building and crafting - this is the one.

Slightly Addictive gameplay?? with nearly 1200 hours under my belt I'd say yes indeed.
The game just keep's getting better but never losing what makes it addictive, the constant work towards something better, with the constant fear of loss.

The fully destructable world and the voxel building and crafting put it a step ahead of ARK : Srvival and the like, because you can build whatever you like, trenches, bases, defenses, it's not predefined like it is in games like ARK.
It's LEGO, you craft block by block.

The new RPG Skills and Perk tree really do a great job in fleshing out your character and brings skill benefits for working together in a small group with specialists, you can still play solo, you just need to be a little more frugal with your skill points spending.

Lots of servers out there, hugly active multiplayer, building your own server is pretty easy if yo udont like the way others are set up.

AAA+++ for the Fun Pimps, they keep working on this little gem of a game and the love and care shines through.

I noticed there are a quite a few negative reviews added recently about the game so I was a little reluctant to give it a try. That’s why I decided to write my first review - I do not think the reviews are representative of the game, they nearly put me off buying a game that I am enjoying a lot.

First thing I really like is that you can play this game exactly how you want to. You want creative mode for building, farming and exploring? It’s there. You're fed up with the zombies? you can remove them or reduce their numbers, want more of a challenge? Make more zombies and give them the ability to run day and night or increase their health. You can tailor the game exactly to your favourite gameplay. As well as the menu options, the spawn settings are stored in XML files which you can edit to customise further still.

The balance of the whole game IMO is very good. Everything has been designed in such a way that you have to get out and explore. To begin you can make a few items/tools/weapons. To unlock more you have to read schematics or books which you can only find by looting buildings. The better schematics and weapons are mostly found in the cities which is where you find the most dangerous zombies, forcing you to take risks if you want to progress.

A lot of these survival games are all about grinding materials, with 7DTD I never really feel like it’s a grind, especially once you start getting decent tools. Breaking safes can take a while but you normally get decent rewards for it. You can very quickly get enough materials to build a basic house. You can farm some of the plants and most of your materials will come from looting buildings and rubbish.

The zombie types have been chosen well to give a good variety. You are mostly safe to walk around during the day, but there are dogs and bears that still keep you on your toes, at night, everything is dangerous. Some can climb, some have a ranged attack, some can run faster than others and some crawl around in the grass.

The entire world is destructible, so you can dig into the ground and mine anywhere in the map, destroy, rebuild or fortify buildings etc. The immersion -ambient sounds in the game are brilliant. The wind, the howling of dogs at night and the footsteps of zombies all add up to a really good experience. Many times I have been caught out by zombies creeping up on me and made me jump. The graphics IMO are very good considering the size and detail of the maps.

The only negative I have is the zombies seem to be able to see through walls, but the game is still Alpha so this may improve in future.

I've enjoyed this game for so long, and actually I am changing my POSITIVE review to a negative. I've enjoyed this game for so long and put many hours (like most of the negative reviews here) to have it get worse over time. This game was brilliant and by far one of my favorite games on my STEAM library.

I'm writing this review because I bought this game as soon as it came out on STEAM and I have waited YEARS for a full release. However, we the community have gotten nothing but bad updates, and round about bug fixes that usually don't do much. When they revamped the game in 13-14 I played a little more and enjoyed the game. Then I saw they wanted to make this game a CONSOLE game when this game is DEEP into Alpha and they don't want to finisht the game until they finish their console game. Ya'know this isn't a bad game, this is one of the best zombie survival crafting games I have ever played but because they don't wanna finish this, I feel like I have been abandoned by the devlopers.

This game is all but done for, many broken promises for content, and now they're spending our EA money on a console port for a game thats still DEEP in alpha instead of finishing their game or at least getting it into a beta (should call the game 7ytb, aka 7 years to beta). Their forum is laughable as anything remotely considered negative feedback is instantly shut down by the forum mods. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Should be called 7 Seconds to Crash.

Earlier versions worked, but this one just crashes crashes and crashes.

EDIT 2016.04.30: While I can load earlier versions of the program using the BETA options, this game hasn't worked otherwise since v.14.4.

I wouldn't recommend this game until these bugs are worked out.

In alpha, releases are slow and buggy. Each release fixes some bugs while creating new ones. The game lacks direction as the devs keep redesigning major parts of the crafting system, not necessarily for the better. Multiplayer is limited because of major performance issues. Servers keep crashing. Considering the success the kickstarter I would expect better development in the alpha stage.

I would not recommend it until out of alpha stage.

How about you finish the game first and than port it to consoles??? its not just that it stopped bein fun after some gameplay tweaks and such but now its even unplayeble because of all the crashing and glitching. but hey the money from pc community has ran out well lets just grab it from consoles too with our unfinished paper looking product... worst than EA honestly.

I was a big fan of this game before alpha 14 played over 800 hours it was so much fun.

Why would you put in a temperature system that doesn't work its just stupid I have never commented on a game before but in it's current state I wouldn't pay $1 for this game. The temperature on the random map is beyond a joke 138 fahrenheit or 57.7 celsius for 80% of the gameplay and walking so slow that you just what to quit playing it.

Please do us all a favour and take out or fix the temperature system, I dont care which one I just want to be able to play it.

It breaks my heart to do this but this version has really killed the game. I have tried to run it 3 times and it crashed every one of those three times. For me at least, in its current form it is completely unplayable. I will load the game and the second I turn to the left or the right, the game crashes.

I have spent a lot of time playing this game so I am sad to say, I am pretty unimpressed by the latest installation. Especially considering the game really should be finished by now.

is about looting-crafting-base building-survirval 'taking place in a open zombie infested world

Pros:
looting
learn new crafting recipes
building
survirval in general food/water/over heat/freezing to death
zombie hunting
Many options to tweak & setup the game as you want!

Cons:
Zombie spawn are really bad and can make zombies spawn right on top of your head
or 2 feets behind you.

Sounds are incredible poorly made and 50% of time will play a few seconds
after it should have stopped.

Optimization basically none at all since they dont know how to optimize a open world game
it seems at this point!

Textures/models/animations looks worse than a game from 2010 (Dead Island)

We was promised many more weapons
+ vehicles & electricity in our buildings, but looks like we not are getting that :(

Note: There are only 2 months left until game is completed from today
where i write this small review

unless they work their butts off here in the last final weeks left,
then i have to give it a thumbs down.

While 7 Days to Die is not a bad game altogether, and while it is only in alpha, I would like to touch on some of the worst factors of the game.

1) Optimization

I dont have the most powerful computer, but when almost every other game I own runs far better than this you know theres a problem. This game is very poorly optimized as even with the lowest settings the game can lag significantly at some times.

2) Combat

Let me paint you a scenario. You are surrounded by 3 zombies. You ready your iron reinforced club and get ready to battle, when one of the zombies rushes forward and stuns you. You are then quickly surrounded by the 2 other zombies and are murdered within seconds. Even if you had a bow with a large supply of arrows, finding feathers to make the arrows in the first place can be difficult.

The worst part is how difficult it can be to stun zombies in the first place. You would think that when a zombie is stumbling towards you at high speeds, smashing him square in the chest with a metal club would at the very least stumble him... but nope. It does nothing to stop him. Then he stuns you and gets 3-4 hits in and before you know it your dead or dying.

3) Difficulty

I'm going to put this bluntly. This game is HARD. Even on the easiest setting, the 7 day horde will destroy you. Surviving long enough to get to it is hard enough, but unless you've got a gun or a boatload of arrows, you're toast.

However this game has many strong points. Building your base can be fun and interesting, as it is difficult to create a perfectly safe base when you can be attacked from any direction and zombies can get to you from nearly any position. Unlike minecraft or any other survival game, there is an actual reason to need to take shelter during the night.

The general sand-box-ness is amazing too! The entire world is completely destructible but looks like anything but!

Overall, while it is a fun game, it has many annoying flaws that need to be reworked.

Been wanting to invest time in this for years off and on. Review continues to be updated

As of this writing, 14.5 horde bug (feral horde spawning and running right for your X,Y cords every night) makes it near unplayable.
Bumped to experimental 14.6, feral bug seems fixes, but spawning still broken (such as spawning inside small house (15x15 blocks) you secured as you log in, or spawning on the street behind (5 feet away or so) just seconds after you checked). Feral Walkers on day 21 absurd jump in difficulty for two lvl 30 players (5 shotgun blasts to the face meant nothing for them).
Even watched a zombie spawn (14.5 build) inside the back yard in the Land Claim Block footprint, walk into the house, up the stairs, break down bedroom door, and walk to and start hitting land claim block while we followed him 4-5 blocks behind.

Fun voxel game I think, but continuely plagued by really bad Zombie AI and spawn/generation. The game really has two strong selling points, the crafting/minging/building aspect, and the zombie survial aspect. Sadly, the buggy latter completely invalidates the former.

I really do enjoy this game. That being said, the alpha 14.6 release yesterday now prevents me from playing. I cannot start a new game (stucking in the loading screen for eternity) and continuing an existing one freezes when attempting to render the area around my character. I am on a mac with all settings about as low as they can go, but 14.5 worked just fine. Cannot reccommend until playable again
