10.4 hotfix is under the tree

Bah Humbug Survivalists,
Sorry for the greeting but our 10.4 woes have hampered our Christmas spirit a bit. But not so much that we couldn’t muster up a gift in the form of a 10.4 b9 hotfix.

With the 10.4 b9 hotfix we should have compatibility with old saved games from 10.3 and 10.4 b8 with the only side effect being named storage crates built before 10.4 will not open.

Here’s what we fixed!

• Fixed KeyNotFoundException error for bald players when wearing headgear. Also known as the game hates bald guys in hats bug.
• Fixed server spamming "Can't send RPC function" and the resulting performance drops
• Fixed new player built named storage crates crashing old save games with already built storage crates
• Fixed a problem with the Unity NAT facilitator so peer to peer connections work again. We’re looking into a longer term solution for this.
• PersistentPlayerProfiles changed to default to false for dedicated servers. Persistent player profiles: TRUE means that when you log into a server for the first time, whatever character you are playing as (a big black woman with long hair) will always be what you look like, even if you change it to another profile (to a bald, fat white guy). FALSE means that you will change looks depending on what your current character looks like each time you log in.

About This Game

Building on survivalist and horror themes, players in 7 Days to Die can scavenge the abandoned cities of the buildable and destructible voxel world for supplies or explore the wilderness to gather raw materials to build their own tools, weapons, traps, fortifications and shelters. In coming updates these features will be expanded upon with even more depth and a wider variety of choices to survive the increasing dangers of the world. Play alone or with friends, run your own server or join others.

7 Days to Die development was launched following a successful Kickstarter campaign in August 2013, demonstrating the initial prototype. Joining us in early access now will help support the cause and ensure continued expansion of the development team, their efforts and the planning and addition of even more features and depth eagerly awaited by fans.

Many of our fans have commented in these early stages that they feel we are building the survival\zombie game they have always wanted. Our goal is to live up to this as much as we can and build a customizable, moddable game that allows users to fine tune their survival and zombie experience to create the experience players and their friends want.

  • Random World Generation - Play Navezgane or roll the dice and dive back into the game with friends in a randomized world with huge cities, towns, rivers, lakes, mountains, valleys, roads and wilderness locations.
  • Create and Destroy - The world terrain, structures and items can be destroyed or scrapped for resources. Re-purpose collected materials to build custom structures and fortification by hand, placing building pieces into the world in real time.
  • Terrain Enhancement - The terrain is now both smooth and natural but can still be destroyed and mined.
  • Upgradable Fort Building - Player built structures are assembled from framework which can be upgraded supporting wood, scrap metal and cobblestone upgrade paths. Hammer away just like real building and use Land Claim blocks to protect your fort in PvP.
  • Structural Integrity - Buildings and terrain formations which are too unstable can fall apart if proper supports are not built. Some building materials are stronger than others and pieces which break off and fall can be dangerous or deadly if they fall on you or enemies.
  • Item Crafting & Degradation - With a continually growing list of over 250 recipes, gather resources such as plant fibers, wood and metal to create weapons and tools such as hand made crossbows, knives and hammers. As your tools wear out over time, use your crafting skills to repair them.
  • Plants and Animals - Locate seeds to plant and grow vegetables, and head out into the wilderness to hunt animals once the cabinets in abandoned buildings are already plundered.
  • Stealth System - Sneak past zombies who can see, hear and smell you and smelly items in your inventory and throw rocks to distract them.
  • Buff/Debuff System – Enjoy or deal with a multitude of buffs or debuffs like a caffeine buzz or a broken leg in our rapidly growing Buff/Debuff System.
  • Cooperative Mode - Tired of zombie apocalypses that are more about fighting humans than zombies? Team up with your friends to work with other survivors rather than against them, using group efforts to build settlements and safety.

  • World Building Tools and Mod Support - Greatly expanded creation tools for players to create their own apocalypse for them and their friends, including Steam Workshop support.

  • Drivable Vehicles - The cars in the world have long since decayed, but you may find enough raw parts to build a custom ride.
  • Skills System – Earn XP and upgrade your skills to become the ultimate Bruiser, Gun Nut, Gadget Man, Chemist or Stealth Agent.
  • Missions & Story Points- Do favors for NPC characters in return for experience and rewards, and learn more about what has happened in the world.
  • Infected Wildlife - Wildlife can become infected. There will be bears. Zombie bears.
  • Virtual Reality Headset Support - For the times when wandering through the woods at night isn't quite scary enough.
  • Environmental Temperature - Find shelter or build a campfire. Cold nights or long days in the desert will make a difference.
  • Weather Effects - The weather will change, and it may influence your survival.
  • NPC Characters - Stumble upon the occasional computer controlled character. Talk, trade or engage them. Locate safe houses controlled by them.
  • Professional Soundtrack & Voices - For those who prefer mood setting music to go with their game, and professional screaming.

First time playing when it turned night I had no choice but to burry myself in the dirt....

Sitting in the pitch black hole just listening to the insane sounds of the zombies outside.

I felt a real rush and fear not knowing what would happen.....

Its rare a game can do that to you.

Great extensive crafting mechanic
Zombies present an actual challenege especially at night when they run
Mining for resources feels like you actually acomplished something

DOGS, $^#@ them
Still in alpha so some glitches may occur
Performance can be rough on older systems unless you turn graphics all the way down

All in all though i give this game a strong 8/10
-The Fun Pimps seem to care about the game and are quick with fixes
-It can be insanely addicting to play
-I love the mining and crafting mechanics
-The fun to be had in this game is only limited to your own creativity

This game is great for LAN or private play as PVE with friends. Positive review from me here.

This is my first review on steam for a game and is because I am very angry at the whole way they are dealing with the cheating issues with the basic attitude of the developers who basically are saying theres no way to stop it so stop asking us to fix it.

IF you play on any server your base will get hacked, basical the server is open to client map files allowing modification and checking map to see where player bases are, where players are (while not on your friends list.) They can change the damage given, the damage they recieve, where they spawn (without a bed). Even tunnel through bedrock to escape easily after they have filled in your base.

Basically raids on bases are legal in PVP where your base is protected by landclaim blocks.
In a hack - land claim blocks do nothing to stop hackers because they change their damage to a rediculous amounts.

My friends and I on our third server we have lost everything decided to make a base hidden in a mountain, no forges would ever be running and all our stuff was at bedrock with a small tunnel as only means of entering. And about 10 minutes run from the main starting area.

Took the guy 5 minutes to completely fill in our base and tunnel out the bedrock leaving a hole into nothing where you fall, then log out and come back in to be on the surface. We have taken screen shots of this.
Usually you can spot a hacker when their ping is over 250 and they have the ability to set all pings to 0 there by disquising themselves. The steam ban does nothing for hacks as players can simply use family library sharing to get back on the servers they are banned from and keep playing the game.

If you want this game to play with a friend and PVE its a really good game.
If you want to play with other people, dont bother. Save your money cause all the work you do will be lost within minutes by hackers.
If you buy the game to play with others on an open server enjoy - 7 ways to be Hacked!

A wonderfully fun zombie survival game. The best one out there I'd say. The amount of content the dev's continuously bring to this game is amesome and I am grateful for that.. This game is addicting and surpasses what I ever expected of it to grow into. So why am I giving it a negative review?

Lets just say this games anticheat software is rather worthless and the developers don't seem to care or be focusing on that issue. I have more than once, ended up on a server with ONE single person modding/hacking/cheating that destroys it for everybody on the server, literally. It drives me crazy. The game is difficult as is and I'd like people to comment to see if their experiences is rather the same. I want to know if hackers and cheaters are as bad in this game as I think they are. Here is my experience lately.

Most recently I had a server that I put 2 days straight worth of work into to have it gone in a second due to one single person. That one single person somehow was able to hone missles from out of nowhere and kill everybody on the map as well as destroy all their supply crates, beds and you name it.. gone. I was also deep underground. To the bedrock. Yet a missle came from nowhere and killed me. Destroyed my bed, crates and everything. Me and the 2 other players I was with were furious.. What a waste of time.

This is the problem I run into with every multiplayer server based game out there is hackers and cheaters that just ruin it for everybody. I really have no interest to return to the game. What is the point in putting in all that hard work. Hours, Days or weeks worth of work just to have it gone in an instant. My recommendation is if your going to play, play on a server that is watched and you know is safe and possibly password protected and private. Otherwise, prepare for the worst on open servers.

So please, if you will. I want to know everybodies experience with this issue.

After having spent over a day total on 7DtD, I must say it is my favorite game as of now. It combines all of the best aspects of The Forest, Minecraft and DayZ with few bugs that are hardly noticable and it lets you take the game into your own hands. Build a massive corn field? Sure. Keep a cage full of living dead? Go for it you sicko! Build a giant statue of Shrek? I have 3 already! You can do what you want and more whenever you'd like, and it doesn't require internet, which is an important aspect for me because I live in a rural community and thats why I never really got into Rust. Overall I say it is completely worth the money

10/10 would build shrek again

This game takes on a lot of features from Mincraft, but manages to not feel like a minecraft clone. The graphics aren't amazing but at the same time it manages to pull off some beautiful procedurally generated worldscapes. There are lots of settings to customize difficulty and gameplay to suit your style. If you aren't tired of zombies, like survival, scavenging, crafting and exploring, this is a nice game. This is not an ideal game for people who want to go on zombie killing rampages (at least not until you've played a while).

This is one of those gems from the alpha funding gold rush. The developers have continued to improve greatly on the game and meet development goals.

This is a great survival game that has a smoothly connected world, the houses look realistic, tunnels in the ground actually look like tunnels, there's many things to craft, books to teach you more crafting recipes. There's hunger, stamina, thirst, and health. You can sprint, you can cook food on fires if you have cooking pots or a grill. There's a fair amount of fire arms, and you can even craft the bullets for them. You can construct quite a fottress, barricade existing structures, repair damage on structures, upgrade parts of your structures to withstand more damage, grow food, hunt, and the longer you stay in one area, the stronger your scent gets in that area, increasing the chance of an invasion occuring, there's many types of zombies, most look standard, but there's a few special ones, and more are going to be added, not only can you eventually craft standard digging tools and cutting tools, you can find an Auger to dig faster, and a chainsaw to cut tree's down swiftly, multiplayer works fine too, the player sync seems to be perfect even if ping is around 100-150 levels. There are many clothing pieces you can find as you scavenge, head, chest, hands, legs, feet, and they have armor value against attacks, you can even use hides from animals you've hunted to make leather, and then leather armor with the proper knowledge. They recently added the random world generation, which i've been testing, it is done quite well, biomes seperated by rivers, if you look enough you'll find roads, and there's even generated structures to be found, you can also mine a tunnel down anywhere to find yourself some metal ores to make whatever tools, bullet casings, or bullet tips you need and coal, as well as nitrate, to make gunpowder. You can make torches, there's a few ways, and you can find flashlights, there isn't anything that can't be destroyed by you, or the zombies, everything has a different durability depending on what it is made of. The options for playing either on single player or multiplayer are fairy customizable, you can increase drop rates of all items, durability of all blocks, amount of zombies that spawn, how long days last, and how large of percentage of each day is night time, you can also decrease all of these options as well. I'd strongly recommend getting this game if you like a good survival, or action game with an extensive crafting system.

I have played many sandbox games, and this one sets itself from the rest. I feel like I am in "The Walking Dead" when I'm playing. The new 10.3 has just arrived and gives me more of a reason to post this.

I'm going to recommend this on the basis that I have just sat in a poorly-lit attic absolutely scared out of my wits praying that the door I had made would hold and the zombies would leave me alone - knowing that in the morning I had to go back OUT THERE and find food and some kind of cure for the disease I caught drinking dirty water because I had nothing else.

7 Days to Die is a zombie survival, post apocalypse game, where you can build almost anything and destroy everything.

I got this game and a few copies for guildies thinking it would be a nice distraction from our main games. Little did I know this would become one of our guilds main games. Our guild leader is now thouroughly addicted and plays almost nothing else. While I have played some on public servers, our guild has our own server, so this review and my experience will be based mostly on the private server side of the game. I have found this game to be really addicting in the building aspect you can make almost amything you can think of and that is a major part of how addicting the game can be, you tend to keep saying to yourself "ill just finish this little area up and log next thing you know you have built an underground comples, hollowed out a mountian for your mine and build towers and fortifications everywhere, while forgetting to eat and sleep. Another good aspect "atleast on the private server is we can mod the world and setup game types form group survival to pvp which is very nice. The only issue I have seen so far is the new lighting system in update 10 while it looks very nice it really drops your frame rate (I was running game on max settings and now have turned shadows and anti-aliasing off for better preformance and some of our guildies with older computers and graphics cards are only hitting 3-10 FPS, after the update). So in short wonderful game but having a better comp will help alot especially on pvp servers.

Ramps leading to two rows of wooden log spikes. Build a Metal Trussing cage, put yourself in the middle, close the lid with more Metal Trussing. The Thunderdome! For flare add torches all around.

When the horde comes, watch as they come for you. Man mode, hold a fist full of pork!

This game offer's a huge amount of exploring and entertainment (as is) Like the above, you can find a lot of different ways to survive the horde.

For not starving Id recommend you read about the first human beings. Learn to use guides. Farm, loot, hunting and gathering. The first ever humans were hunters and gatherers. What the ♥♥♥♥ you think they were? To survive you need to be fit and use your brain. Not rely on fast food and ding dongs and mommy to come wipe your butt.

That is the bottom line, you can go nomad and never settle down, or build a base.

If you go nomad Id recommend planting some crops and return every few days to gather them up. If you build a base, maybe a bigger farm?

Defenses is trial and error, nothing like siting in a prefab house with no defenses in the attic and only one can of chicken rations while a roaming horde is blasting through.

Oh and plant trees, they drop seeds when you chop them, plant some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trees!

Use Vitamins after eating or drinking bad food. When ALL ELSE FAILS, dig a hole and hide in it. Dig deep and cover as you go. This tactic is called the Saddam Hussein.

OK this is my first review ever so bear with me please :)

7D2D is a highly immersive (& addictive), horror themed, sandbox survival game that is set in fully destructible voxel landscape.

You are one of a small number of survivors remaining after a virus left most people mindless, savage and hungry hungry (for flesh ) roaming the landscape of Navezgane looking for their next meal.

OK, that’s the general gist of the game now for my thoughts!
If you like building things, finding loot, fighting monsters, exploring and enjoying yourself then this game will not disappoint!

I have had this game since about Alpha 8 and I can’t rave about it enough. It has incorporated almost everything you could want in this style of game and has done it with a great deal of quality and attention to detail. The devs seems to really listen to suggestions and are very active in the forums as well as regularly putting out bug fixes, version and alpha updates. I have a heap of alpha games and 7D2D is by far the best managed and most inclusive development team I have yet seen. There is an almost touchable excitement when the next Alpha is ready to be released.

The one and only down side to the game (apart the hours spent in a 7D2D playing coma :)) is the issue with hackers on the multiplayer servers but as far as I can tell this too is being taken seriously and steps are constantly being taken to safeguard against this (actively).

When the game comes to completion it is going to be the Horror Survivalist voxel type sandbox game by which all others are going to be measured by! (IMHO :))

7DTD was my first foray into early access and has become for me the Gold standard, against which I measure other titles. Although still technically in alpha, it is one of the most polished games I've played.

Gameplay is addictive and although it can be frustrating on first spawn (ie - no gear, alone and up against lethal mobs from minute one), getting to the survivable stage with crafted weapons and food is very quick to achieve with some careful thought.

The centrepiece is of course, the crafting.. which could be held up as an example of how to do it. Getting the recipies for advanced gear is deceptively easy in the main.. but actually being able to assemble all the neccessary bits is a challenge. Getting yourself ready for your first horde gives a sense of urgency to the proceedings.

A superbly well made and well thought out title and rapidly becoming my number one 'just another 5 minutes' game of choice.

10/10 and only getting better with each patch.

Last night a friend and I were making our way through a bombed out city. It was getting dark and we came across a building that was mostly intact, All the other buildings were missing large chunks and were falling apart. we decided to enter the building (which appeared to be a large apartment high rise) and seek shelter for the night. We had to break boards off the front door to get in. Did this mean the building was sealed from before the outbreak...and therefore safe?


We settled in an apartment on a lower floor as it got dark, You don't wanna be outside at night, At night...they can RUN, FAST. A horde is scary enough during the day, 20 zombies or so shambling along...maybe trying to catch up to you. night a horde is terrifying. A screeching, sprinting mob racing through the dark. The dead don't get tired...but you do.
Finding lots of supplies in the cupboards and what not. We didn't realize that all the noise we were night fell...was disturbing the tenants of the building. Of course the entire building was inhabited by zombies...all locked in their apts ever since it all started. They must have been dormant until we disturbed them. The screams and bangs and crashes from all around us got louder as the darkness became absolute. You could hear walls, and doors and even the ceiling starting to give way. We had a long wait for dawn. We couldn't stand the pitch darkness anymore, it made the cacophony that much worse. In the server I set up...The darkness of night lasts a full half hour or so and that's how long we sat there in the near pitch blackness listening to the zombies tear the building apart around us. We couldn't make a run for it because all the noise that our neighbors were making was attracting other nearby hordes on the outside of the building.

As dawn was the rear wall of our unit....they were getting in...

fun game!

(I didn't even mention the zombie dobermans.)

Me and my group just started this game.. we have been playing dayz togethor from 3+ years.. but this game is so amazing even in alpha.. Finally a game which actually feels like a survival game. after playing 50+ hours in a week, i will try to tell about the game in points .....

* Zombies feel like zombies.
* Game is hard to survive, especially in the beginning.
* You are actually scared and many times have to run for your life when you are starting out.
* Map is infinite. Literally. So much to explore and enjoy.
* Night time is awesome when you have to barricade some place with your friends and hide till its day again.
* Buildings are all enterable, lootable and you can move around furniture and stuff to barricade.
* PvP is also there, but right now PvP and PvE in this game are balanced nicely. I hope it stays that way.
* You can make underground bunkers/bases. or If you prefer to be visible, you can make a giant castle xD
* Soon, more places to explore will be added and vehicles, which will make this game epic.
* Most importantly, this game is Fun !! Loads of FUN with your friends!!

Also, i'd like to add that some of you prefer high quality graphics, but this is one game which is all about the gameplay. Like everyone else is saying this is the Minecraft version of Dayz but trust me, its way better, in every way. ;)

The following is my thoughts and experiences of the game after 48.7 hours of playing alpha 8 through 10.4 hotfix. (December 21, 2014)

My experience has been a little less enjoyable after playing for so many hours straight. Hordes spawn too fast with as much as only 2 minutes between horde attacks even when the game is set to low spawn rates. It's only day 3 on this new world, I don't think they should be coming this fast. But I guess that just adds to the challenge that many say is the proper way to play the game.

The game's unoptimized state has never really bothered me that much as I was always able to maintain a good 60 in nearly all parts of the map with settings turned to low or off. The city was where it'd some times drop to 50 and below. But with how fast these hordes are spawning my fps frequently dips to <30fps while they're around making the game stutter and hard to defend against attacks.

Even with these issues I'm still going back to the game multiple times a week. It's great watching the game slowly take shape with each update from the dev team!

I like it.

The reason I had any interest to pick up this game was because of the Game Society Pimps and their videos. If not for them I might of just passed on this game.
This is a very fun open world sandbox zombie survival game. It's fun playing with your friends.
There are bugs and it's not optimized but as it's still in alpha and these problems should be resolve by the time the game is done.

PS - I had a pretty sweet underground base.

My first impression was lackluster. I expected another half-hearted pseudo-sandbox with pushover survival mechanics. My expectations were way off mark.

1) 7DtD has one of the most comprehensive crafting sysmtes I seen, even in building within the world, with many tools that provide a variety of benefits and a plethora of resources differing by biome that alter the way you manage your survival. The world is fully detructible, being able to dig and mine (with some decent physics) as well as destroying parts of the landscape (or cityscape), thrown in with many gatherable items for survival purposes.

2) Survival itself is key and is directly tied into game play. Managing your hunger and thirst will determine not only how long you will live, but more nuanced features, like stamina and wellness. There are many resources available to satisfy both survival mechanics, but you have to manage them well to maximize their effectiveness, and you have to gather them without dying.

3) Zombies are no joke. Even during the day time, if you're hammering on zombies with your crossbow, all it takes is for one not-so-noticeable zombie to flank you, and you're dead. Taking hits from zombies can detriment you in several ways, including bleeding, infection, and being temporarily stunned.

At its stage in development, this game is already basically a fully-fledged game, and it only continues to get better with bugfixes and additional content. 10/10
