About This Game

TowerFall Ascension is the definitive version of the hit archery combat game. Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, it's a 4-player local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but hard to master and combat is fierce. Loot treasure chests for game-changing power-ups, master the art of catching arrows out of the air, or descend on your foes and stomp them into submission. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, cross-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.

New in Ascension is the 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode. Players work together, fighting off a variety of monsters and enemy archers across the land of TowerFall. It's a new adventure to explore when you don't have more friends handy to square off against.

New features in TowerFall Ascension include:
  • Brand new 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode
  • 50 additional Versus arenas, for a total of 120 unique maps
  • More game-changing power-ups, such as Drill Arrows that burrow through walls
  • 4 new unlockable, playable archers, for a total of 8
  • A huge list of variants to customize your matches - a total of 75 ways to mix things up
  • Plenty of hidden secrets and surprises to discover with your friends

It's a fun game, but £10.99 is too much for a game that does no support online play that really should.

I didn't buy it at 10.99 and I do have more hours than my play time suggests, it's a good game but not without issue (lack of content, no online play)

Graphics are nice, controls handle well, if a little tricky at first. If you can get it in a sale or love party games, then I'd recommend.

This is my favorite couch co-op game in my library. The game is fast, frantic, and new players can learn in about 2 minutes. It offers enough veriety in maps and game modes and enough skill in the combat/platforming to avoid getting stale for a good long time. If I have one complaint it's the lack of online multiplayer, but then again the local experience is superb.

Very well made. I really enjoyed the coop campaign. Levels are short, diverse and challenging. Controls are really simple and every possible move is important (Like dashing, bounce pads, ennemies heads, torches, sticking to walls and using the holes in the map to move around). There is friendly fire, which adds to the challenge. It really brings out a nervous laugh when you ALMOST killed your friend with an arrow, you actually hit his hat off his head, or when you kill yourself with your own arrow and can only blame yourself. The arrows in the game are pleasantly homing, rewarding you putting faith in the homing ability of it. It is quite satisfying. My only complaint was that the story mode is only playable for 2 players, you need a DLC to play a campaign with 4 players, I didn't understood why.

I bought this with a bundle. It was fun for the time I played it. Each map appears to be one screen. There is a ton of maps, and you unlock them by finishing 5 rounds of the previous map. The first round wasn't too difficult, but my play definately needs to improve for me to finish the 2nd round.

Would be fun if there was network support. I would love to play more, but I do not have anyone too play with. As this is a local co-op only, I was unable to find anyone to play it and its kinda boring when you play it solo. It is fun, but I am not particularly attracted to 8-Bit games so I would probably not have bought this on its own. I will give it a positive however for its linux support!

Absolutely awesome co-op game nothing more to it. if you are looking for a fun game to play with your friends can i only say "You have come to the right place".

The Game
- The game is archers jumping around shooting at each other which doesnt sound like something special but the greatest games are often simple and straight forward and this one is no exception. there is a ton of game-modes aswell as mechanics that changes the characters, environment and the arrows to suit whatever needs you may have. there is a quest mode and a versus mode aswell as a trial mode so you can train you skills, go out on adventure and pwn your friends, what more can you ask for. i've had a lot of fun playing with my friends over at school aswell as home and each session is the same story. hours of fun with great laughs and some good memories.

- the two biggest disadvantages when it comes to playing the game is it's not much of an singleplayer game so you will need someone to play with to get the best experience. the second one in my opinion is getting a gamepad/controller. the mechanichs aswell as the controls were designed for a controller and improves the gamepley immensly :).

- You can't play this game online with your friends which of course is somewhat of a bummer but the reasoning behind it makes up for it. the game is very responsive and very easily comes down to miliseconds of who wins and who gets shoot in the face. so if there were to be an online version the delay aswell as the possible host-advantage would reduce the quality of the games you play. but it doesnt really matter that you can't play online with your friends because this isn't a game you play online. it's a game you get together and have a good time which probably is the best way of playing with your friends. so even though the game can't be played online will it never mean anything since you will be playing it will your pals right next to you :D

Greatly recommended.
the dark world edition doesnt add extremely much gameplay but if you are into the game is it a good use of your money

Get this game if you can get a group of people together at your house to play. If you can't, just don't. I highly recommend it, but only if you have some friends that would like this game.

It is amazingly fun. I cannot stress that enough.

I dont feel like this is a game that you want to play. I didn't test versus mode with other players, especially with 4 players might be fun for a short time. But for solo players, this game is unfair to the maximum while it does not try to give you a feeling that yo uwant to finish the game, like dark souls where you die alot aswell but you learn and progress nonetheless.

The monsters that spawn in solo mode move and act so arbitrary that it seems like it was programmed to annoy you. enemies will make sudden movements in mid air ortheir hitboxes change spontaneously sothat your arrows do not hit our you fall through a quarter of the enemy's body (where normally a jump on the head instantly kills them)
Your evasive move works only in 50% of the time and its abillity to capture projectiles that hit you in the instant works only half of the times aswell. You will be raging alot because of how unrealistic the gameplay is and yo uwonder how someone would program something in that way that it just severely annoys you.

Mario / Megaman + Super Smash Bros

Don't buy if you don't have people to play with, the single-player isn't worth it.
But the multiplayer is AMAZING!

I read some good reviews about Towerfall and thought: Well... why not? after all I was not really thinking of my main computer as a multiplayer machine or anything but I would often welcome my friends and we would play something on the PS3, it took some effort to set up the controllers on the PC, but ever since Towerfall those have not been paired to the PS3 anymore or at least not for long.

Towerfall is an incredibly fun game to play with your friends, it's easy to get into it, the concept is easy enough to grasp and then shooting arrows at each other with little sprites make you feel like some sort of elven hero, a good game is the sort of game that inspires stories as you play and seeing three of your friends gang up against you is a lot of fun when everyone starts yelling.

- If you like to play with friends get this game.
- If you want a challenging game for yourself, get this game.
- If you are doubting that Steam could become a great platform for couch multiplayer, get this game.

Brings around nostalgia for skill-based local co-op games in a big way.
The campaign mode might be challenging, yes, but the multiplayer is where the real fun begins. Imagine this 1v1 scenario: Both you and your adversary have life-ending arrows waiting on standby, both of you spawn facing eachother. If you miss, you have just given your adversary more ammo. Every feint, air dodge, and shot may be your last. This is TowerFall Ascension.

Playing Towerfall with friends is insanely fun! We seemed to have the most fun playing last man standing with the ghost modifier and drop arrows on death. The ghost vengeance is hilarious fun! Unfortunately, however, Towerfall has no online play =( It is probably not worth picking up unless you have friends to play with locally.

Pros:
  • Epic couch multiplayer
  • Editor and steam workshop is a nice touch (Dark World)
  • Co-Op is as good as the versus multiplayer which I personally dont see often in versus multiplayer oriented games
  • Situations of pure *skill*
  • Epic Arrow catching mechanics
  • Responsive controls
  • Lots of trashtalk
  • Lots of variables that can be played with
  • other things i have forgotten to mention

Cons:
  • Only local multiplayer (although I personally think local is where this game is best, a multiplayer mode would be nice)
  • Maps can be a little small at times, especially when playing 4-man

To Note:
Once you start to get bored of the original levels I really recommend buying the DLC as it adds a fresh new take with tons of user created levels to entertain you once more! You can even try your own hand a putting together a level for your friends.
