Hey folks, just pushed another small TowerFall patch on Windows. Mac and Linux will follow soon.

  • The match results screen now shows Revives if you play Team Deathmatch with the Team Revive variant enabled
  • Fixed getting two kills if you detonate a trigger arrow on the same frame that the arrow itself kills someone

Have fun! :)

About This Game

TowerFall Ascension is the definitive version of the hit archery combat game. Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, it's a 4-player local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches. The core mechanics are simple and accessible, but hard to master and combat is fierce. Loot treasure chests for game-changing power-ups, master the art of catching arrows out of the air, or descend on your foes and stomp them into submission. TowerFall is best played competitively with friends, cross-legged on the floor within punching distance of each other.

New in Ascension is the 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode. Players work together, fighting off a variety of monsters and enemy archers across the land of TowerFall. It's a new adventure to explore when you don't have more friends handy to square off against.

New features in TowerFall Ascension include:
  • Brand new 1- or 2-player co-op Quest mode
  • 50 additional Versus arenas, for a total of 120 unique maps
  • More game-changing power-ups, such as Drill Arrows that burrow through walls
  • 4 new unlockable, playable archers, for a total of 8
  • A huge list of variants to customize your matches - a total of 75 ways to mix things up
  • Plenty of hidden secrets and surprises to discover with your friends

Probably the best local multiplayer game in my library. Every time friends come over they expect to play this game.

This was one of the first games I bought on Steam, when I was playing on a puny Dell Zino with a whopping 4GB of RAM.

Runs great. The gameplay is challenging. Controls are like butter.
The DLC was worth it (I got it on sale with the game) and adds some even bigger challenges to the game.

Now owning a much higher end gaming PC, I still find myself coming back to this game constantly with friends.

I would definitely recommend this game, to both people just wanting a fun game they can play on their laptop or old pc as well as to hardcore gamers with high end rigs.

The game itself is fine, but I am giving it a negative rating because no one who supports freedom, creativity, innovation, or the concept of meritocracy should give their money to a developer who openly panders to Anita Sarkeesian. By the developer's logic, honoring Sarkeesian both verbally and by incorporating her into the game's DLC makes Jack Thompson, Tipper Gore, and Joe Lieberman qualified for this treatment as well.

The developer's lame publicity stunt may have won the approval of a few people who don't even play video games, but he has alienated countless more in the process.

My message to the developer is this: you are not winning the hearts of the people who actually pay for your products, and you have lost my business for all of your future developments. (Yes, unlike Anita and her SJW ilk, I actually buy video games and patronize the developers who develop these products.) I would rather repeat the mistake of giving money to Phil Fish than repeat the mistake of giving money to you.

One of THE best local coop games I've played. Everytime I have people around I whip this game out for some quick fun. Hell even make a drinking game out of it which makes it all the more crazy.

// Drinking game rules //
VERSUS
You die you drink.
You kill yourself, two drinks.
You lose entire match, two drinks.
You kill another player, who also kills you after death? Both players drink twice.

CO-OP
You die/get downed you drink.
You kill another player, you drink.
All fail to progress? all two drinks.

An Awesome Game to Play with Friends

You can enjoy this alone, but this game was built for multiplayer. The verses mode has a large amount of rules and items to choose from, making the battles a different experience each time. The co-operative mode is a lot of fun too but be careful not to shoot your allies, you will need every life in this game.

Killing or being killed is fun to watch, explosions, being pinned to a wall by an arrow, all kinds of fun. The pixel art is nice. If you have a friend that you can play with, you would not regret buying this game even if you normally don't enjoy this genre.

Hooked my PC up to the television, grabbed 4 controllers, gave 3 to my friends and let 'er rip. We laughed, we screamed, we cried, we shouted, and then we laughed again. And cheering - there was cheering.

Ten out of ten, would pin my friend to the wall with an arrow again. Best competitive couch game I've ever played.

Still loving it and still can't get enough of it. Always play it when friends come over (whether they want to or not) and really brings out my competitive vein, which I normally don't have at all.
Easy to learn but hard to master with gameplay that just feels right and leaves a lot to discover, as mechanics intuitively build upon each other.
Simple but powerful design in art and gameplay!

This game is a hoot with a full couch of friends. Its crazy how it got us all jumping and screaming for the entire time we were playing. I remember getting this in a indiebox and thinking "meh what a crappy game for this month". But being able to finally play it with a full group finally made it worthwhile.

The gameplay is fun and hectic. You get only a single life per round. Each round lasts anywhere from a handful of seconds to usually no longer then a minute. So players aren't left on the sidelines too long if they die in the very first second making a dumb move. Every arena is randomly generated and are usually very well balanced. Every exit on the level links directly to the corrosponding opposite side. So that opens up a world of crazy encounters with groups that know how to use them creativly. The powerups add a whole level of craziness with the level moving vertically or horizontally. Which can disoritente some players and give others the chance to move in for a kill. Depending on who is winning and losing the game adds simple handicaps that gives others a chance to win even if they have lost a lot of rounds back to back. Some of the handicaps simply add a sheild allowing you to withstand a extra strike or helps bend your arrows to make it easier to strike a oppoent down. While leaders will have fewer arrows to start and most use pure skill to outwit their oppoents handicaps. It sounds like it make it unfair. But for me after all my years of multiplayer gaming. I can say this game is one of the very few that figured out how to make a fair and balanced handicap system.

Bottomline. If you have a local group of friends that get together to play games. BUY THIS. You will have a blast.

This is just overall a great game if you have a couple friends to play with! I haven't played a whole lot of the single player mode yet, but it seems ok. Anyways, I think the main focus of this game is multiplayer, so grab a couple of friends and controllers and get ready for lots of fun.

Pros:
-good gameplay
-cool graphics
-kinda cheap (I bought mine on humblebundle.com for super cheap)
-level editor (If you have the DLC)
-great game to play with friends

Cons:
-no online multiplayer, although I think this is necessary for this kind of game because it is made for playing with friends on the same couch as you, if you know what I mean.

If you have controllers and friends this is the finest local-co-op game you can get your hands on. If you don't have controllers and friends, this game makes it worth the cost to buy both of those things.

If you can gather 1 to 3 people for local multiplayer, then feel free to buy this game.

However, if you plan to play this game by yourself, make sure you have a spare controller before purchasing this game.

Why? Because even with a keyboard, a controller is required to play Versus mode, and certain content (at least 3 map sets and all 4 extra characters) can not be unlocked unless you can access Versus mode.

If you do not have a controller, you will not be able to unlock all single player content.
If you do not have a controller, you will not be able to unlock all the content in a game you paid for.

I would change my stance on this game in the future if either:
1) The ability for a single player to fight against the AI in "versus mode" is added
or
2) An online mulitplater mode is added
The second option may be a little unreasonable, but the first isn't.

Either of these would allow players to play versus mode without a controller, thus giving them the ability to unlock game content that is currently unaccessible with just a keyboard.

As a game designer, I'm sad that I have to live in a world where my entire job and sustenance is based on my ability to convince people to buy and play my games when they could be playing Towerfall instead. I can't really capture everything that I love about it into concise statements; it's bigger than life, it brings people together. I've forged strong friendships over this game. Heck, people want to be my friend just because I have it.

It doesn't matter who you are or what kind of games you like. It doesn't even matter if you've never liked a game before. You will have fun playing Towerfall.

And it looks awesome. And the soundtrack kicks ♥♥♥. Oh, and the sounds? The way every archer has a different synthetic "voice" so I can tell who's shooting and who's killed even when my eyes are closed? The way the jester makes one of three possible jingle sounds when he crouches?? Ugh. Everything about this game, every detail big and small. It's so good.

Bring controllers.
