Community is literally garbage. I have hundreds of hours in all wargame titles, my victory ratio in EE and ALB is 60%. I'm not even mad, and I'm saying the community is terrible.

I mean, if you're the type of person who likes to sit in teamspeak and flirt with your clanmates, then this title might touch you in all the right ways.

But if you're a normal person, it's just a headache. These clan-oriented people basically stack the nato half of lobbies, then wait, sometimes for hours, until noobs fill the pact team. I'm not even exaggerating, they WILL NOT switch and balance the lobby: they will WAIT until the pact team fills with noobs who don't understand what's happening.

Oh, then after crushing a team with 5 hours played combined -- they all act like they're really cool and good.

Game itself -- 8/10.
Game + playerbase -- 3/10.

I bought the tripple pack with. first time player, as a friend recomended it to me from steam. We used to love Command and conquer and any RTS and FPS games really. This game owns all thought because you just dont build 100 tanks and spam your enemy. You actually have to use tactical movements to engague your enemy. if you rush, you will die!

for the price this game is deffinity worth it. I am just now sure how ive missed out and not heard about them when they first came out.

SO the game is VERY detailed with stats. there are like 50 countries to choose from or combine forces. All the units replicate real life vehicles and names and mimic their capacitys as best as possible to ballance the game. Vehicles range from I think 50s-90s. AMMO and GAS are used out in the battle feild and require you to bring in heavy supplies from your base. It was a little weird at first getting used to but adds to the realism. sure Multi player does have its problems, Artillary spam.. but as with ANY unit in the game, there is always a way to counter it with another unit.

there are lots of hills, trees and small cities with 2 story houses in the game.. ALL units require a real life style line of sight to engage enemey units. This game is like a war simulator.

At the start of a multi player match you can have up to i think 6vs6 that you host yourself. if you want up to 10vs10 you have to host a linux server. But there are others you can join in on.

You start the game off with a certain amount of tickets lets just say 2000, a Jet can cost 150, while crappy tanks are 50 and the best are 180. and you gain spending tickets by gaining territories, Which some give you a +2 if they are close to your base, and +7 which are the ones in the middle that are hard to capture.

again there are SOOO many vehicles in the game.. I think everything that was every made is in the game. There are like 6+ Abram tanks to choose from, and the same goes with all other vehicle types.

Logistics - Infantry - Support - Tanks - Recon - misc. Vehicles - Helo - Air - Navy

Units all have different visual ranges, Infantry units in forrest are hard to spot while tanks are easier etc etc.

VERY VERY Detailed game. a+ to the creators

I played as North Korea.
I bombed my own peasant infantry when the Americans attacked my lines.
I sent new troops to replace them.
My housemate sat dumbfounded as he had just lost 2 squads of high-end American infantry in Bradley IFVs, an M1 Abrams and a fancy AA piece; 100s of points of high quality men and equipment, while I lost about 30 peasants.

Then I assualted my housemate's lines..
He had a few pieces of expensive tow along a distant treeline, a very dangerous attack helicopter, more fancy AA, and a single M1 Abrams which was parked in the middle of the road at prime range from a river crossing.
... I sent 64 T-34s ... straight across the bridge ...
Albiet, I had a bit of mortar support to take out the tow, and I somehow bombed the helicopter out of the air.
But the T-34s had to close into near point-blank range to even score a chance at penetrating the M1 Abrams, so it sorta ended with about 5 or 6 of my T-34s surviving, while the M1 Abram's carcass was literally surrounded on all sides by near 60 destroyed T-34s. (fyi, I believe the T-34 must be stationary to fire)

In every case that I play as a 2nd rate power, I give the enemy a bloody nose, no matter whether I win or lose.

My only wish was that there was a WW2 version of this game - with a few changes to account for infantry without transports, brigade / regiment structuring, fortifications (in attack / defend scenarios), and fixed or towed guns.

Oh, but there is a hilarious learning cliff. My housemate didn't know was SEAD was, and kept wondering what was blowing up his RADAR AA.

It's not garbage or anything but there's too much emphasis on artillery and helicopters. The game tends to devolve into a shower of DPICM and heavy rockets landing on any attempts to make maneuvers on the ground followed by the inevitable assault helicopter sweep that ends the round.

Airland Battle had much more tactical complexity since you couldn't just obliterate any movement with the sort of artillery barrage the would make the WWII Red Army proud. The constant pounding makes air defense in any sort of concerted way, pretty much impossible and that opens the door for helicopters, lots of helicopters. The avilability of attack helicopters and their low price has always been a bit odd in Wargame titles but now that maintaining air defense is tough and their abilities in terms of aiming and firing on the move have been beefed up, it's gotten surreal. It's not uncommon to see dozens of attack helicopters wipe out entire teams.

The artillery is also kind of sad for the game because it makes loads of new and pretty cool looking vehicles worthless. Basically only tanks are worth using because everything else gets pounded into porridge as soon as it takes a shot.

The other issues:

1. Naval combat just doesn't work.

I think the engine could handle it reasonably well but the scale is way off so it just feels strange on maps that are mixed. There are also balance issues. I think the notion was to give RED surface fleets and BLU airpower each an edge, but instead RED surface fleets dominate any BLU fleet (their faster, longer range, and more powerful missiles blow apart even the best BLU ships often before they ever get a shot off) and have no defense whatsoever against BLU aircraft (you only get two fighters in the Naval section with enough range to counter incoming BLU attack aircraft and these are easy prey for F-14s).

2. They made it extra easy to stack the lobbies.

This has always been an issue but it's been maximized now that you can see other players' stats from the lobby with ease. You pretty much always know which side is going to win and so the multiplayer is full of half empty lobbies, despite having 5x the players as ALB it's just about as hard to find a game.

What is really needed is a system for lobbies that asigns random (or better yet, equaized by level) and binding team selections. It doesn't need to be mandatory but it should be something a host can set so the sides have a better chance of winning.

3. Balance is titlted in favor of BLU

It's not impossible to win with RED by any means but Eugen themselves admit BLU wins around 50% of matches. Given that 10-15% of games end in ties, BLU is probably 25-35% more likely to win. It certainly feels this way in practice. usually with BLU I find I can romp to an easy victory while scraping out a tiny lead with RED is an accomplishment. Airland Battle worked out much better fort balance and either side could crush the other in the right hands.

I think the reason for this is that in earlier titles new players generally took NATO (because they saw some disco channel special on how the M1A1 is invincible) and were beaten by more experienced players on Pact teams (since fewer new players were willing to play as those commie scum). This led to a lot of whining and the result is a title where subtle little changes favor BLU and add up to a pretty substantial advantage.

4. Infantry combat remains problematic

Airland battle has a rather serious issue where flamethrower infantry eat everything else for lunch. The most hardened special forces soldiers are often wiped out to a man by conscripts with cans of gasoline strapped to their backs.

To their credit Eugen has tried to address that here but it hasn't really worked. Flamethrowers are a lot less powerful but now the basic infantry units are as well. An entire platoon of standard infantry can be wiped out by a squad of special forces who run across an open field for hundreds of meters under assault rifle and machinegun fire, charge into the block holding the enemy platoon, and kill them all in CQC. Additionally, because they are so much faster, they can avoid at least some of the artillery pounding while the regulars simply get vaporized. The result is you rarely see much in the way of regular infantry units and special forces troops are vastly overrepresented.

5. Too many high-level assets with uneven distribution.

The US gets a Patriot battery but the Soviets don't get their long range S-300 systems. There are F-117s providing close air support but no TU-22Ms for naval strikes. There are ATACMS and Long Lance tactical missiles for BLUFOR but no SCUD or FROG-7 for REDFOR. Overall it's just a bit irritating.

All in all this could be a decent game but it's got a bunch of little flaws that mean it can't keep up with its predecessor when it comes to providing a fun, engaging experience.

One of the best strategy games I have ever played. It takes a while to get into the game, but once you understand the subtle differences between the units you will find that this game can be played for hundreds of hours without getting boring.

Each unit has several key metrics (e. g. range (air/heli/ground), speed, size, surpression, rate of fire, armour piercing & high-explosive damage, amount (e. g. 10 soldiers in a squad)) and up to 3 weapons. For anti-air tanks this can mean that the vehicle will boast anti air missiles (infrared) and a dual 25mm canon based on a radar targetting system. As long as the 25mm canon is activated, enemy ECM planes can snipe your AA, however, if you turn off the radar they won't be able to spot your unit.

Another factor adding to the longevity of the game is the deck system. You choose a block (PACT/NATO), a Nation (I believe about 15 on the NATO side and 10-12 on the PACT side at the moment) and a specialisation (support, marines, air, armour, motorised). Each nation has a plethora of units (about 80 I believe).

The community isn't the largest one due to the sophisticated nature of the game, but there's still sufficient lobbies to find a game at all times.

Eugen recently starting releasing new nation decks, which keeps the game alive and inserts fresh content from time to time.

Good game, with a lot of room for tactical play, and quite a steep learning curve. Had some problems with the graphics though, so I had to set stuff on DirectX9 and low settings.

PROS:
- Definitely a must-have for armchair generals. Sound tactics will get you far, weak points will be exploited, so you have to have a balanced army in the field.
- Deck system is a very important element in the game. It's also fun to mess with.
- Multiplayer battles with multiple players vs. multiple players could make for interesting battles.
- Lots of units to choose from, although some countries have more variation (and sometimes seemingly useless units).

CONS:
- Problems with graphics forced me to play on medium settings.
- Not a big con, but the game lacks good tutorials. To really learn the game you should just play a lot and look up youtube videos of experienced players.

Blufor players are absolute p u s s i e s and will quit at the first sign of trouble, leaving you their half-dead armies for a complete loss.

Otherwise, pretty good.

But really, the game has such massive attention to detail and vast depth that it feels extremely cheap when the experience gets hobbled by fatalistic players. If you're a fan of Cold War military hardware or Tom Clany novels (Red Storm Rising) you'll definitely have fun customizing decks of units with hundreds to choose from, adapting them to your own play-style.

Learning Curve = BRUTAL

The best modern era combined arms warfare game currently on the market.

Units are varied and have amazing models and details. Maps are excellently designed, with many free maps having been added as free DLC. Gameplay is deep and hugely varied given the option you have for crafting your own playstyles. It can be obtuse though.

However, be aware that multiplayer is abusive if played with randoms and the community players in chat can routinely be seen praising racially motivated genocide and other such nonsense. It is bad.

Get this or die trying.
The trailer shows ingame footage and it is as displayed. An epic rts focused on the multiplayer but has about 5 dynamic campaignt wich i really enjoy!
Although this game has a tendency to get you stomped in first multiplayer games, the balance is pretty good and the game is grreat fun!
