Map Pack #3 is LIVE!

MAP PACK #3 is finally live!
It will bring to you:

NEW MAPS:
... the ported classic map Thüringer Wald in two variants:
3v3 Snake Pit
3v3 Crossroad

Plus 4 variants of existing maps:
4v4 Heartbreak Ridge
4v4 Crown of Crags
2v2 Operation Chomite
1v1 Death Row

MAP CHANGES :
Based on the feedbacks brought by the community after the release of the previous Map Packs, we have made some changes on the following maps:
Sun of Juche & Final Meltdown: downscaling the reinforcement arrow.
Mud Fight: smaller red spwan sector to balance the "point of contact" near Alpha.
Mud Fight: central sector moved slightly closer to blue side in order not to incorporate another hedge.
Nuclear Winter is Coming (Conquest): increasing one sector's value from 1 to 2.
Punchbowl, removing the contral sector, outside of the town.
Hell in a very small place, central and bottom zones slightly extended in favor of blue side.
38th Perpendicular, increasing the size of India sector to facilitate access to the city above.
Highway (big), central secttor's value increased from 1 to 2.
Wrecks & Rocks, extending Foxtrot sector to include some woods in order to help blue side securing it.

- Autocanons noise increased by about 20%
- Tank filters in the armory fixed.

Wargame Red Dragon is one the best RTS games i have played in the past few years, this game is perfect for amature RTS players and Veterans as well. the average players can seach for guides that the community has made, and the veterans can enjoy the Micro possibilities that the gamea allows you to make. You can play everything, from Big scale 10v10 battles to super tactical low income fight, really can't recommend this game enough. Besides, if even you don't like RTS you can spend some good hours just reading the marveulous place that is the battle chat, you can talk about everything betwen mechahitler to the illuminatti.

Needs a multiplayer campaign like the previous game had. It is what I really wanted from it. Otherwise it is good if you like playing the AI or have the time to get into high-level online play.

One of the best RTS games ever made. Unfortunately the game Devs havent been able to erradicate cheating in the multiplayer. Beware dubious servers that can alter the odds in their favour and some random players who are teamkillers, spies or will spawn a heap of units to be targetted then quit. Also the game can be really bad when your team has a lot of random newbs. The devs never allowed an algorythm to prevent pubstomping.

I suck so hard at this game, but the effects and graphics are just too amazing to be mad about it. The feeling when that MiG takes down your Helicopter in Bullet-Time: Awesome!

Pros:
- Tons of content and free DLC (aside from the newest DLC, which is $6)
- The variety of maps and units keeps the game fun and interesting even with 480hrs of play time.
- Incredible detail just in general.
- Campaign is fun and can be challenging.

Cons:
- Match-making is awful. Most sessions are either in-game, setting up, or debriefing. Of the few that are open, most are nearly empty (you'd wait forever for the required number of players to join and the game to begin). Of the handful of games that have a decent amount of people in the lobby, most of those are almost always on the same 3 or 4 maps.
- Players leave the match as soon as their team starts losing since there are no repercussions for doing so.
- The units of the players that leave are given to another player. If half the team leaves, a single player can have half of their team's units. It's too much for anyone to handle, so guess what? they leave too.
- A single person with a bad connection can slow the entire match down for everyone else.

Its a good game overall, frustrating at times, but on the whole its pretty good. I reccomend it to people who owned Airland Battle and other RTS outsiders. The simple point system means you can focus entirely on the combat side of things and not have to worry about base building or upgrades or anything like that. Dont buy into a units stats alone. Weaker units can kill stronger units if positioned correctly ( or if your oponent has no idea what they are doing). The enormous range of deck combinations is pretty awesome because you feel like its "your" army you are playing with. Your tanks, your troops, your planes. Dont make a ton of different armies because you will never use all of them and if you do you will constantly be trying to remember what goes where. Better to have a couple armies and then really get to know them.

P.S Please dont spam artillery, I dont mind if you use it,but dont make an all arty support deck.
P.S.S All of the above is my personal experience playing the game and if other people have had other experiences thats just fine. Im just trying to give some advice.

Warchat: Red Dragon is the greatest chat room to ever grace mankand with it's presence.

Pros:
-Colors

-Russians

Cons?
-The French chat room has 2-3 people in it, max, at any one time

The strategy minigame is great too.

Pros:
-Wonderful co-operative and helpful community
-The sky is almosy always full of artillery shells, mortars, and rockets. every game. always.
-Nothing feels better than penetrating an enemy MBT from behind
-The devs care, they really do, I love them, no homo
-You can tell how good someone is before a match starts just by looking at their name (with some practice)

Cons?
-Will consume your free time
-You will sexually identify as some sort of tank, helocopter, plane, or armored vehicle, (I identify as a BMP3 Russian IFV)
-May develop PTSD from extensive shelling of your infantry
-Your scores may look like this the first 150 or so hours in multiplayer

Tl:dr; It's epic, intense, extremely detailed and takes a while to learn.

Do you cringe to see your RTS tanks and helicopters move at the same speed? Do you want a modern style RTS on a big scale? Do you want semi-realistic ranges, strength and fighting power for anti-air, vehicles, tanks, infantry? Look no further.

Wargame has (to me) been the breath of fresh air the RTS genre sorely needed. It's on a massive scale, and allows you to zoom out to see the entire map, but you can also zoom in to follow a particular unit in incredible detail.

This game has been around for a while, but thanks to the community, the devs are still working on putting new nations out.
Next to the positive things mentioned above, here are a few things you should consider before buying:
-The scale works both ways, it's easy (as a beginner) to get stomped by something you didn't know existed.
-The learning curve is very steep in the beginning, know that you need to make your own unit deck, since the default ones are useless.
-Don't read the chat if you're easily offended.
-(in my opinion) There's little GOOD wargame footage on youtube etc. from which you can learn as a beginner, reach out to the community to get some good decks at the start!

Longtime Wargame player, the desk system in this version is perfect. Naval Warfare is not really up to scratch but its such a small part of the game not to really affect anything too much. Land battles seems much more balanced than previuous versions. Campaign mode is tough but beatable.
Great end to the series if it is.

Summary:
"Wargame: Red Dragon" is a very polished RTS. There's a huge focus on terrain, vision and interaction between unit types, giving the game lots of depth and replayability. It has no base building and the pace is comparably slow, so clicks per minute and reflexes are not that important. Being able to select your personal army compostion from hundreds of units makes it only more addictive.

Technical Execution: It's the third iteration of the game, and it shows.
- The game is very well optimized. Despite huge maps (up to 10v10 players), lots of units and a detailed visualization (tracer fire, explosions, flares,..), the game can be scrolled and zoomed fluidly without ever stuttering (Radeon 7800 on quad core).
- Controls are sleak, especially when considering the scope of the game. Most commanding is done with just three orders: "move quickly" (stick to roads), "move" (and shoot while moving) and "attack" (move and stop to shoot). There are also some more situational one (like "unload" for transports, or "fire position" or "fire smoke" for artillery). Chaining orders adds complexity. But it's easy to learn the shortcuts, and you won't feel like fighting the controls, but focus on the game instead.

Gameplay: Deep but punishing.
- Gameplay is centered around of control of marked capture areas. Control generates points over time, which can be used to buy new units. Depending on game mode, you win either via number of points generated ("Capture") or via points value of stuff killed ("Destruction").
- Vision matters a lot. There's no fog of war, but a vision system (similar to the one in World of Tanks). If an enemy unit is visible is based on line of sight, and the units and terrain involved (units have optics and stealth ratings, which are influenced by cover).
- All units have hard counters. And hard as in "oups, it's gone". Infantry can be bombed in an instant, AA guns shoot helicopters down in seconds, tanks are blown up by anti-tank missiles from helicopters or planes in 1-2 hits. Having the right combination of units near the right place at the right time is crucial. And if you fail to do so, and the opposing player notices, you can be in for some serious steamrolling. If the opposing player manages to get a recon unit close enough to spot your super heavy tank in that tree line, and the ATGM plane takes it out because your air defence is too weak, then you failed. It's mistakes like these that lose games, and not some critical hit rolls or faster clicking on production queues.
- Balancing: Coalitions are well balanced, especially given the number of units in the game. All coalitions can cover the basic stuff needed, but all have a slight weakness in some area. (Which can matter more or less, depending on map.) Most balancing discussions now center around point efficiency, and there are no "you can't counter my unit, you die" one trick ponies.

Community: People love this game, but some are quite toxic.
- The game has a very stable playerbase, and a developer team that cares for the game and listens to feedback.
- There are a lot of very helpful and friendly players that create tutorials, mentor new players in game or give quality advice in the forums (be sure to check out the Wargame Reddit).
- There are also way to many maladjusted. Global ingame chat is a cesspit of trolling, racism and insults. And there are some high level players that smurf or stomp beginners with premade teams. Since the game has no unranked matchmaking, be careful what games you join and check player profiles.
- General adivce: Use the "mute" and "friend" buttons a lot. Building a friends list with people that don't quit or flame will get you lots of invites to good games.

The bad: New player support
- There is no tutorial. You might want to check out some of the tutorial videos on youtube.
- The starter army lists are not good for multiplayer. "General purpose decks" that gives you a fighting chance no matter what are possible. Checking out the newbie deck guide helps a lot.
- There's a lot of unit information, and the presentation doesn't highlight what's important. There are a lot of units, but most of them can be sorted into only a few tiers/categories. Infantry quality for example is determined a lot by their "training" level (Regular, Shock, Elite), and recon unit quality is determined a lot by their "optics" (aim for "very good"). Also getting a feeling for tanks can be hard (80-120 pts are the normal tanks used, 140+pts are very powerful, 50-pts tanks are so weak they won't damage most tanks much). Stuff like that. Once you get a feeling for the unit tiers and roles, the game becomes a lot more clear. No need to learn 1000+ units.

So yeah: The game is a bit niche because it doesn't shy away from being complex. But it is also very solid at what it does. There is a learning curve to get into the game, but things are not as bad as they might look at first glance - also thanks to the great part of the community.
