The gameplay mechanics on field are quite good, after a few hours you'll be clearly capable of executing some nice attacks and goals. However the presentation is quite weak, many basic configuration options are missing and the gameplay mechanics off-field are a joke and feel more like punishment.

Technically it suffers from texture problems, while players look stunning when very close to the camera, player details can look very ugly when just a little bit further away.

Comparing to PES 2011, it is not good.
1, Optimized for 1920x1080 only (I have smaller monitor)
2, Optimized for gamepad.. I play on PC keyboards.
3, I just could not get out of replay hitting ESC.
4, Commentator is the same since 2011. (It' ok.)
5, players are moving like puppets..

I cant compare it to FIFA, I dont know that one, never played.
This time is was my next waste of money in steam. Very disappointed with gaming at all.

Let me put it as simple as possible for the people torn between FIFA and PES:

-If you want an extremely realistic game experience, PES 2014 is probably for you.
-If you want to edit players, teams, leagues, and more, PES 2014 is probably for you.
-If you want the option to perform tons of advanced moves, PES 2014 is probably for you.

-If you want an extremely amazing multiplayer experience, FIFA 14 is probably for you.
-If you want every major team and league on the planet available to play, fully licensed, FIFA 14 is probably for you.
-If you want a game that is super easy to play and learn, FIFA 14 is probably for you.

PES 2014 is for me. YOU get to decide what's for you, but my list above is made to aid you in making that decision.

I am a long term PES fan, but I must say: Konami did something really wrong here.
Konami has been loosing market share to FIFA for awhile so this time they tried something new. PES 2014 is a nice looking game (despite the HORRIBLE user interface) but simply isn't fun. If you like soccer games you know this: PES and FIFA can (or could until PES 2014) be compard to CoD and ARMA. One focus in fast action, arcade style and the other one in real life simulation. Same genre but with different playstyle. Each one with it's own type of public.

What Konami tried this year was to come closer to FIFA, becoming a more simulation-like game and this is a problem. I'm not the only one desapointed out there. I always favored PES over FIFA because of it's arcade gameplay and now I don't have that anymore. If I wanted a simulator, with real physics and game tactics I would play FIFA not PES. The magic thing about the PES franchise was that it was fun in its simplicity: easier controls, less realistic physics, the chance to pick up Messi in the defense field and dribble the whole opposing team and score a goal… that’s what PES is about. I tried, I really tried to like this PES 2014, I changed the controller options at all ways I could, but I still don’t like it and that’s why I’m moving back to PES 2013.

The sales of PES 2014 are going really bad, and guess why? EA has a very long experience in soccer simulation games while KONAMI dosn't. The moment PES tries to be the same thing as FIFA, it enters in a area that the rival dominates much better. PES was the king of arcade soccer games, and now it is only the 2nd option in the socccer simulation games genre.

-graphics are better than ever;
-UI is horrible;
-The new control system has good and bad things about it (more depth means it's harder to master);
-Stealing the ball became a horrible task;
-Running for more then 2 seconds means your going to lose the ball [¬¬!];
-The new physics feel really real, but are NO FUN AT ALL.

KONAMI, please bring back the game that I so much liked, the game in which I spent more than 2000 hours in the last 12 years.

As much as I tried to like this game, I just cannot.

First of all, the movement of the players feels robotic. It doesn't feel smooth and it is very annoying to me.

The commentary has incredible changes in mood. He is very happy about the game, but then he mentions the names of the players like if he was depressed.

There still are no secondary leagues. I'd like to have a little more, at least in the major leagues.

The most frustrating part, however, is that the matches feel like they have already been chosen. I mean, come on...we already have real life FIFA for that, we don't need it in game too.
Some matches are stupid easy, others are hard as ♥♥♥♥, especially because your teammates fall asleep and look at the ball, or miss a goal from 5 meters even if you barely even clicked the shoot button. A lot of times I want to pass to a guy and it will pass to the completely opposite direction.
You know when you HAVE to loose a game when a guy scores a bycicle kick with a cross from the goalkeeper. Sure, maybe that's exaggeration, but seriously, at times the enemies have nitro and, even if it is a crappy team, they suddendly, for 2 minutes, play better than Barcelona until they score.

It is also incredibly fun when you slide at a player from behind and it's not a faul, but it is a yellow card (the commentary suggests red) if you get the ball with pressing.

As much as I don't like EA, if you really want to go for a football (or soccer) video game, go for FIFA 14. This one is worse.

Awful game and the worst in the framchise. AI is none existent. Your players have ZERO movement off the ball and it only helps to have fats players, otherwise all the players are the same apart from looks. The worst football game i have played ever! Incomplete game rushed and released early. They have certain things like manual through balls and advanced shooting, which you never have time to use because they close you down too quickly. Then you have low level players frustrate you by holding you off the ball like beasts doing crazy skills and making it impossible to tackle. The referees are idiots. Goal keepers poor and you constantly pass the ball to the opposition because its poor mechanics. You'll hardly ever create chances and no game plan seems to exist. Goals are random and often from your mistakes. Didnt bother lower the skills level lower the Pro because i shouldnt have to. Anyone who enjoys this game has issues. 0/10

I tried to keep playing this game and make myself like it, but it's such a huge step backward in gameplay. Everything feels slow. You beat defenders and they run you down from behind and recover way to easily. The fouls are unbelievably inconsistant. The ref is quick to hand out yellows and reds for the most simple of fouls. I played a game where the cpu had a corner kick and I cleared it out of the box only to have it volleyed out of the air right on goal. It was saved and knocked out for another corner kick. Same thing happens again. After about the 4th time in a row of this instance repeating, the volley from the cpu hits the back of the net. Simply ridiculous...I grabbed this game on GreenManGaming a little while back for $14 and I feel like I was ripped off. I feel sorry for anybody that forked out $59.99 for this. This is far from the glory days of pro evolution. The best word I can think of to describe this game is "painful". Don't believe me? Play it and you'll be saying the same thing.

Worst soccer game ever! i've played PES before and this is nothing like the old games

they forgot footy rules... for example I get fouls when I get a player to stretch to kick a ball (my guy hits ball first) and their player falls over me after the ball has left the play, so it cancels my goal (happend more than a few times) or my clear attempt and they get a penalty kick against me like WTF??? Not once have I seen this in professional soccer games not sure what crack they were smoking when they made the engine algorthim that decides fouls (fifa is better in this regard)
the AI(both my own or the oppenent) is dumber than FIFA in regards to that it stands in offside more often(I mean in situations were it isnt even reasonable for them to be in offside) then not (old PES games had a much smarter AI)
and lack of licening makes it horrible for immersing into teams (all PES games suffer from this although this makes me ask why in the world the game costs so much money)
the physics of this game is nothing special at all older PES games had better honestly I think PES is dead if this their trend
the graphics are out dated as well again nothing special at all, including the messed up invisible ball glitch or black screen while the gamecontinues just aweful
Last PES game I will buy!

I`m very very sorry for this Game, but it sucks.
I am playing Pro Evolution Soccer and International Superstar Soccer before that, now for 16 years and to this day i never thought there was a really really bad pro evo. I could forgive the biggest flaws, because i felt more like real football then Fifa ever did.
But this installment, I´m sorry, is just crap.
The Players feel very sluggish and turn like a lorry, even the very very good ones. I´m playing real football on various amateur levels for 24 years now and I can do things after 90 minutes these players can`t even do in minute one.

In my humble opinion Konami went too far with this one. They overdone the "realism" part so much, that the players became unrealistically bad.

So I must say the ball physics are excellent as always and the players look like there movement is very realistic and good looking.
But as I said: It’s not a Fun Game anymore.

You MUST buy this game for one reason alone ,Become a legend was the best inovation in footy games and the latest version is the best ever .

Here's your mission ,play 7 seasons on BAL build up your player from 64 to about 85 .Then start a Master league with a team ranked 70 - 80 in the world ,buy your created player for a couple of mil and then get that team to No.1 ranking or get yourself to no.1 club by securing moves to bigger clubs thru results.

I dont play the regular type of game anymore because fixed player cam on master lge or BAL is just the way to go and now anything else just is nt real enough .Best sports sim ever .

This was my first endeavor with the PES franchise. Being a long time FIFA player, I wanted something different. I came with an open mind hoping this would be what I was looking for.

PROS:

The presentaion of the games is marvelous. Things seem realistic and give some great shots. The graphics are pretty great as well. Nothing ground-breaking, but better than FIFA's current PC offering**

Gameplay is fun. It's a departure from FIFA's time-and-shot formula. Things happen quickly and has an arcade feel to it, which I like. After getting used to the controls I was able to play comfortably.

PES has a lot of potential to grow, more so than its competitors. They just need to get some things fixed

CONS:

Sadly, there are some glaring problems.

The team/league selection is minimal. Barclay's Premiere League had been branded a very generic "English League." In that league, my favorite team, Manchester City, had been brought down to being "Man Blue." This is obviously due to licensing issues. If PES wants to become true competition they need to get all the same licenses as FIFA.

The graphics are great for a few exceptions, namely some players look almost nothing like what they should. Some of the less recognizeable players have low-quality faces while the big ones like Ronaldo look great.

The overall UI of the game seems very dated. They could really use some streamlining. The system for online matches seems quite clunky as well.

From what I've read from PES faithful, this might not have been the best place to get into the franchise and I would tend to agree. The game just needs more polish but the core gameplay is there.
