I am a long term PES fan, but I must say: Konami did something really wrong here.
Konami has been loosing market share to FIFA for awhile so this time they tried something new. PES 2014 is a nice looking game (despite the HORRIBLE user interface) but simply isn't fun. If you like soccer games you know this: PES and FIFA can (or could until PES 2014) be compard to CoD and ARMA. One focus in fast action, arcade style and the other one in real life simulation. Same genre but with different playstyle. Each one with it's own type of public.

What Konami tried this year was to come closer to FIFA, becoming a more simulation-like game and this is a problem. I'm not the only one desapointed out there. I always favored PES over FIFA because of it's arcade gameplay and now I don't have that anymore. If I wanted a simulator, with real physics and game tactics I would play FIFA not PES. The magic thing about the PES franchise was that it was fun in its simplicity: easier controls, less realistic physics, the chance to pick up Messi in the defense field and dribble the whole opposing team and score a goal… that’s what PES is about. I tried, I really tried to like this PES 2014, I changed the controller options at all ways I could, but I still don’t like it and that’s why I’m moving back to PES 2013.

The sales of PES 2014 are going really bad, and guess why? EA has a very long experience in soccer simulation games while KONAMI dosn't. The moment PES tries to be the same thing as FIFA, it enters in a area that the rival dominates much better. PES was the king of arcade soccer games, and now it is only the 2nd option in the socccer simulation games genre.

-graphics are better than ever;
-UI is horrible;
-The new control system has good and bad things about it (more depth means it's harder to master);
-Stealing the ball became a horrible task;
-Running for more then 2 seconds means your going to lose the ball [¬¬!];
-The new physics feel really real, but are NO FUN AT ALL.

KONAMI, please bring back the game that I so much liked, the game in which I spent more than 2000 hours in the last 12 years.

As much as I tried to like this game, I just cannot.

First of all, the movement of the players feels robotic. It doesn't feel smooth and it is very annoying to me.

The commentary has incredible changes in mood. He is very happy about the game, but then he mentions the names of the players like if he was depressed.

There still are no secondary leagues. I'd like to have a little more, at least in the major leagues.

The most frustrating part, however, is that the matches feel like they have already been chosen. I mean, come on...we already have real life FIFA for that, we don't need it in game too.
Some matches are stupid easy, others are hard as ♥♥♥♥, especially because your teammates fall asleep and look at the ball, or miss a goal from 5 meters even if you barely even clicked the shoot button. A lot of times I want to pass to a guy and it will pass to the completely opposite direction.
You know when you HAVE to loose a game when a guy scores a bycicle kick with a cross from the goalkeeper. Sure, maybe that's exaggeration, but seriously, at times the enemies have nitro and, even if it is a crappy team, they suddendly, for 2 minutes, play better than Barcelona until they score.

It is also incredibly fun when you slide at a player from behind and it's not a faul, but it is a yellow card (the commentary suggests red) if you get the ball with pressing.

As much as I don't like EA, if you really want to go for a football (or soccer) video game, go for FIFA 14. This one is worse.

First of all, if you have a window 8 or 8.1, don't buy this game, it won't work. second this game graphic is great, but This game is totally not done, and not accurate. First of all they're a lot of bug in the game, An example is that some time when I clear the ball away the ref would call me offside but I just clearing the ball from my own peanlty box, Also, foul in this game is really non-existent, You could brought player down, and you still don't get a card for it. This game has very high potental to be a great game and maybe even better than FIFA 14, But This game I feel is just not finish at all, and I hope they can fix this problem in the next game

I tried to keep playing this game and make myself like it, but it's such a huge step backward in gameplay. Everything feels slow. You beat defenders and they run you down from behind and recover way to easily. The fouls are unbelievably inconsistant. The ref is quick to hand out yellows and reds for the most simple of fouls. I played a game where the cpu had a corner kick and I cleared it out of the box only to have it volleyed out of the air right on goal. It was saved and knocked out for another corner kick. Same thing happens again. After about the 4th time in a row of this instance repeating, the volley from the cpu hits the back of the net. Simply ridiculous...I grabbed this game on GreenManGaming a little while back for $14 and I feel like I was ripped off. I feel sorry for anybody that forked out $59.99 for this. This is far from the glory days of pro evolution. The best word I can think of to describe this game is "painful". Don't believe me? Play it and you'll be saying the same thing.

As a long standing FIFA fan I came into PES with an open mind, but I'm going to review this for other FIFA fans out there who no doubt like myself, may have spent years considering whether or not to try PES.

The game engine is phenomenal. Despite being so used to FIFA over the years I was impressed immediately by the physics and gameplay engine. In my opinion it's a far more realistic experience compared to FIFA. I can feel the different weights of the player, the force behind each pass, whether a striker will go down after being tapped during a tackle, etc. It makes for more lifelike gameplay, and that's something I've always felt FIFA has missed. Shooting and passing feels far more precise, and defending (while a little tricky to get a hang of) feels more tactically challenging. The AI isn't perfect and often experiences the same flaws that the FIFA engine has (opposition stops challenging for a dead ball because your player is slightly closer, poor commentating issues, are some examples). There's also an air of iritablity in the passing and shooting assist options; even with the settings turned right down the game can get the odd pass, tackle or shot completely wrong.

The gameplay atmosphere is brilliant. It feels like you're watching a big game on TV, you can feel the importance of each huge match and it spurs you on. Player celebrations, crowd chants and general aesthetics of the game are very pleasing. Champions and Europa League options are absolutely immersive and follow the prestige of the tournament very realisitically. The only downside I can think of is the poor commentating engine, which blatantly feels like the game is being reported by a couple of robots reading from a script.

Customisation is also brilliant, allowing fully custom squads and the ability to precisely fine tune pre-existing players. It certainly is a way to kill hours on end making bizarro squads and players. There's definitely a greater field for customisation than in any current FIFA title.

The main issue that irritated me is that the game feels small. There are the obvious licensing issues that PES faced meaning premier league and bundesliga teams are cheaply substituted into the game (Manchester City is Man Blue, Arsenal is North London FC, etc), while these can be imported through player made club packs, it takes away some prestige to the game. There's also no lower league action for English or any other European countries, meaning I can't play around in SkyBet Championship, League One, etc. Further woe for British squads as there are no Irish or Scottish leagues included (though you can still play as Celtic and Motherwell as standalone clubs). Tournaments within the game start to feel repetitive due to lack of team options. As someone who plays a lot of career and offline mode football, it seems small, and after a few hours I feel as if I've explored the game completely.

If you're new to football games, I'd definitely recommend PES 2014. If you're a FIFA fan, I wouldn't recommend it, but would urge you to try out the game/physics engine at some point.
