About This Game

A fly ascends to the skies, pondering the pointlessness of its brief existence.
The Plan was developed as a side project by Krillbite Studio, who's currently finishing their main project Among the Sleep.

  • "Hey, You Should Play This"
    - Patrick Klepek, Giantbomb
  • "Some may argue that The Plan isn't really a game and it definitely occupies the same terrain as Journey, Passage, and Dear Esther, but it's shorter than Journey, prettier than Passage, and less overwrought than Dear Esther, making it well worth taking a punt on for the low price of free."
    - Jeffrey Matulef, Eurogamer
  • "It’s that space in the mechanics for thought and interpretation that I appreciate most here. The Plan won’t break your brain, but it’s a nicely contemplative journey."
    - Nathan Grayson, RockPaperShotgun
  • "In order, here are the emotions I experienced during the three minutes it took me to play The Plan, the new free morsel from the Norweigan indie developer Krillbite: confusion, frustration, boredom, fear, amusement, delight, joy, enchantment, and regret. One of the things independent games ask us to do is accept that a three-minute game can be as valid as a thirty-hour one. Games like these make it hard to disagree."
    - Joseph Bernstein, Buzzfeed
  • "Krillbite Studio, the developers behind Among The Sleep, have gone on and released a most polished, visually stunning and freeware new game"
    - Konstantinos Dimopoulos, Indiegames.com
  • "Krillbite's The Plan is a short, sharp experimental deliberation on the meaning of life."
    - Andy Chalk, The Escapist

This is one of those little gems you just wish it was your idea.
It's an amazing existencialist experience/game, probably the best 120MB I have ever downloaded.

Well, I wasn't going to recommend it until the very ending got me by surprise and made me lol. You won't really miss much if you don't "play" it, but anyway. It only takes 5 minutes to complete this "game".

This game was really awesome. So simple; more of an experimental hypothesis, but still really inspirational. Thanks to the developers.

I have to laugh at everyone who mentions this game having a bug in it.

Thank goodness that it does!
I actually started to become attached to my little fly during our short acquaintance; while escaping from the terrifying spider's web, as we dodged randomly drifting leaves that tried to drive us to the ground, feeling helpless while being blown hither and yon by errant breezes as my/our wings flapped as hard as they could, being afraid of the sound of birds as they called out in hopes of me/us becoming their before-dinner snack... Then finally as we ascended above the tops of the tallest trees; saw how the stars twinkled in the night sky, and then the amazing outlines of worlds undreamt of and unattainable. I was compelled to continue upward along the brilliant and mysteriously beautiful rays of light - I had to see where they might take us...

I'll never look at a fly in quite the same way again.

No, it wasn't a game. It was a microcosm of the life that we all live; filled with all of the difficulties and fears, but most of all, filled with the overwhelming beauty of just...being.
And then, in the end...of not being.

Thank you for this experience.

Now, a warning. If all you care about is how fast you can destroy an enemy or how powerful you can evolve your character to become...if you believe that poetry and beauty are best left to books and art galleries, and that souls and spirits belong either in churches, graveyards, or horror movies...
Then this little eight to ten minute scenario isn't for you. Take those few minutes and level up in your latest dungeon crawler or RPG - leave the little fly and his life lessons to others. On the other hand - maybe you could just open your mind a little, tamp down your adrenaline, examine not just the fly, but all of the different things that impact, endanger, and enrich his short little life as well. See if you can find any parallels to your own existence and maybe even think about how you want the final frames of your own life to play out.

Afterwards, you can go back to your other games, just as I'll be going back to destroying humankind playing Plague Inc, Evolved.

But just maybe you'll go with a tiny touch more appreciation...for the meaning to be found in the life of one single fly.

The fly is dead. The Fly remains dead. And we have killed it. Yet it's wings still flap. How shall we comfort ourselves, the fly swatters of all fly swatters? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has flyed to death under our W's; who will wipe this blood off us? What insect spray is there for us to clean ourselves?
