About This Game

A fly ascends to the skies, pondering the pointlessness of its brief existence.
The Plan was developed as a side project by Krillbite Studio, who's currently finishing their main project Among the Sleep.

  • "Hey, You Should Play This"
    - Patrick Klepek, Giantbomb
  • "Some may argue that The Plan isn't really a game and it definitely occupies the same terrain as Journey, Passage, and Dear Esther, but it's shorter than Journey, prettier than Passage, and less overwrought than Dear Esther, making it well worth taking a punt on for the low price of free."
    - Jeffrey Matulef, Eurogamer
  • "It’s that space in the mechanics for thought and interpretation that I appreciate most here. The Plan won’t break your brain, but it’s a nicely contemplative journey."
    - Nathan Grayson, RockPaperShotgun
  • "In order, here are the emotions I experienced during the three minutes it took me to play The Plan, the new free morsel from the Norweigan indie developer Krillbite: confusion, frustration, boredom, fear, amusement, delight, joy, enchantment, and regret. One of the things independent games ask us to do is accept that a three-minute game can be as valid as a thirty-hour one. Games like these make it hard to disagree."
    - Joseph Bernstein, Buzzfeed
  • "Krillbite Studio, the developers behind Among The Sleep, have gone on and released a most polished, visually stunning and freeware new game"
    - Konstantinos Dimopoulos, Indiegames.com
  • "Krillbite's The Plan is a short, sharp experimental deliberation on the meaning of life."
    - Andy Chalk, The Escapist

This is the most touching story that I have ever been fortunate enough to experience. Better then Skyrim. Amazing character development. Flies.

Webs. Leaves. The cosmos. All that is no match for one that has the determination to reach for the stars and claim what's theirs.

Highly recommended. 10/10

this game is going to ruin my life

Okay actually, the game is a weird form of story telling. No words, hardly any actual story, though. It's more so a poem I guess you could say in the form of a video game, as if you were playing the poem but with no narration. It's slow, however takes little time to get through. It's free and hardly takes your time, so really I can't see why I would Not reccomend it.

This game made me ponder many of life's great questions.
Why am I here?
What does it all mean?
Is there a god?
Where is the bathroom?
Why am I playing a fly simulator?
I fear none of these will be answered in my lifetime.

This is probably one of the shortest "games" on Steam; it lasts only 5 to 10 minutes, and then it's finished. Many would argue it's not a "game", since there is almost no gameplay. In The Plan you are a fly, a fly with a plan. She wants to fly higher than any fly has ever done before, so she starts on a journey of discovery. You can lead the fly a bit, but in the end she goes up and up and up, and that's it as far as playing this game is concerned.

But arguing if The Plan should be called a game or not, is besides the point. For me, it's like a small but polished piece of art. If large and great games like Middle Earth: Shadow or Mordor are the novels of games, then The Plan is an exquisite poem, maybe even as short as a Japanese Haiku. It's all about atmosphere, and about the gradual changes in atmosphere as the journey progresses. These shifts are made through the artwork, and also through the soundscape. In the beginning there's not much more than the sound of the fly up-close, but once she soars higher, the developers with a stroke of genius added a piece out of Edvard Griegs beautiful music for Ibsens play Peer Gynt: "Aases Tod". The emotional effect of this music took me by surprise, and made a deep impact. There are even many more "layers" to be discovered, but just as in any good poem, these should be left to the player's imagination.

So, just get this one, and treat yourself on a special journey. It's free, so don't object ;-).

The gaming equivalent of Maya Angelou's "Caged Bird," The Plan is an evocative tale of hope and longing amidst oppression and despair. You will experience the struggle of a fly ascending for five minutes on a journey to freedom, while being oppressed by spiderwebs, falling leaves and gentle gusts of wind. Metaphorically subtle yet complex, and breathtakingly powerful—bring your handkerchiefs.
