OMG! We've done it! Version 1.0.0 Build 5.0 is here! Enjoy....

Welcome to Version 1.0.0, Build 5.0 - Update #42!

We’ve decided to push out a pre-release of v1.0.0 to everyone today a bit earlier than our planned move out of Early Access. It’s a pre-release because we are still tweaking things and adding final audio, but it’s in pretty good shape and we wanted you all, our early adopters to get it first!

We would like to take this opportunity to tell you how much we’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with you all, listening to your feedback and requests and having you help us shape Fight The Dragon into a bigger and better game than we ever planned it to be.

You are a truly amazing community of gamers and creators - so generous with your time and energy, and Jarryd, Ari and I are more grateful than we can ever express in words for your help and efforts.

Thank You All!

Final Dragon Arena
We are finally shipping our complete version of the Dragon Arena. There is now a final reward for killing the dragon and we also now track number of times you’ve killed your dragon (yes, you can kill it more than once, and earn your final prize more than once) and the dragon leaderboard and rank now tracks the total damage dealt, so no more resetting back to the bottom after a kill.

BTW, we’ve had to stomp everyones progress. We have mentioned this was coming for quite a while. You wont have lost any Dragon Rings you’ve earned previously, but everyone starts back at 0 damage on their Dragon.

New Item Types - Wands and Tomes
Fire Lords and Ice Wizards get two new item types for V1.0 - Tomes and Wands!

Wands are a ranged weapon that doesn’t actually shoot a projectile, it just damages the enemy immediately. This means it’s pretty accurate and reliable, but does less damage than your average ranged weapon.

Tomes are a unique item type that goes in your shield slot - instead of absorbing damage it charges for every hit that you take. Once it’s fully charged, a tome will explode, doing damage to all nearby enemies. They’re a pretty cool offensive alternative to the shield and there’s a few different varieties with different effects for you to find.

Steam Workshop
We are finally shipping our Steam Workshop integration!

The 2 Workshop buttons in the Character Customisation are now active. The Workshop icon will open up the Fight The Dragon workshop page inside your game via the overlay, so you can subscribe to items, and the Add Item button will allow you to package and publish your own items.

If you subscribe to items via the overlay, you’ll need to exit the customisation system for them to get loaded in (once Steam has downloaded them).

We’ve included a bunch of example assets from FTD and some instructions in a FightTheDragon_Workshop folder next to where your game is downloaded and we’ll get a Steam Guide with the relevant info up ASAP.

We’ve also uploaded some starter content to Workshop for you all to try out (with more on the way ovr the next few days), you can access the Workshop here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/250560/workshop/

Any items you subscribe to will appear at the top of the customisation item palette and will be marked clearly as a workshop item.

Have fun!

Achievements
We’ve added 60 Achievements for V1.0 - good luck unlocking them all! Most of them are based on stats we’ve been tracking for a while, so you might unlock some when the game boots up. If you want to check your progress in-game, there’s a new Notice Board on the side of the house that you can check out that contains a run down of your progress.

Combat changes, Balance and Level Cap
We’ve made some pretty significant balance changes this update as well as raising the Level Cap to 60.

We’ve increased the damage amount of any newly dropped Two Handed melee weapons (Greatswords, Hammers, Spears) by 20% to 30%, while also increasing the range between the min and the max damage on these item types.

We’ve also made some changes to our combo system. On a one handed melee weapon the third attack will do 20% extra damage for every enemy you hit. On a Two Handed melee weapon, you’ll do 20% extra damage on your 2nd attack and 30% extra damage on your third attack.

Alpha 4.9.8 - Update 41 - Read a book week!

Welcome to Alpha 4.9.8 - Update #41!

We’re terrifyingly close to release, but we’ve got some great new features for everybody and a few important bug fixes, so we thought we’d push an update out anyway.

New Lectern and Book NPC’s
You asked for them, so we’ve delivered! Lectern and Book NPC’s are now available under the new “NPC” heading in the ACK. They function like normal NPC’s - you can have multiple stages of dialogue, turn them on/off via events and they have an “On Finished Dialog” event for you to hook things up to.

They are closed by default and will open when a player comes close if they have any dialogue. Some Gifs of them in action:

http://gfycat.com/MeekEasyArrowworm
http://gfycat.com/PeriodicOrangeGoldenretriever

New Weapon Type - Crystals
Crystals are a new weapon type for Fire Lords and Ice Wizards - they deal damage in a cone in front of the player. Their advantage is that they aren’t hit-based - there’s no collision box that needs to hit enemies. This means that they are a much more reliable way of dealing damage, although they will deal less damage per hit than most other melee weapons.

  • Changed “Quit Adventure” button in Dragon Arena to read “Quit Arena”

Fixes
  • Fixed lots of pathfinding issues with stairs
  • Fixed placeable effects blocking enemy pathfinding
  • Fixed Dragon not respecting Stealth from Rogues
  • Fixed some special attacks that weren’t dealing damage to the Dragon
  • Fixed an issue with enemies pathfinding through one-way teleporters
  • Fixed controller help UI appearing beneath Keys UI
  • Fixed a rare bug when assigning a Campaign to an empty tile
  • ACK: Fixed placeable effects not turning back on if turned off while in a playtest

Fantastic game. Been looking for something like this for a long time. It's a hack and slash, but you can also go (ice or fire) mage or rogue (range or daggers). Maps are made by users and are of very good quality usually. There's a rating system, so it should get better over time.

When you have played enough dungeons, collected good gear and leveled up enough you can face the dragon which is kind of the end game. But the dungeons are a lot of fun, so I don't really care too much about that dragon xD

But you should know that It's a bit unpolished. It's been in Early Access and my personal opinion is that it should have stayed there for a little longer while. But I'm a bit of a perfectionist and Steam isn't when it comes to Early Access.

It's not that it's hard to play, it's just awkward at times and it takes hours to get used to the quirks. Even though I find bugs every time I play i´ve not found anything game breaking. So even though it´s rough around the edges in my opinion it is very playable.

So I hope this won't keep you from buying the game. Again it's a ♥♥♥♥load of fun and very playable I just want to warn you to prevent possible frustration caused by finding out this game is not as far in development as you might expect.

(Oh yeah, one more thing. I'm pretty sure they didn't realise that they put nVidia 8000 in the system requirements. This suggests that an old 8300 should run the game fine, but I strongly recommend getting something better. I guess most i3 pc's have better GPU's then that, but I thought I'd point it out to be sure. I've made them aware of this, but they haven't responded yet. Usually they respond very quickly though, they are very active on the forums)

I absolutely love this game so far. If they can bring online Dragon fights then that would be ♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. The fact that I don't have to host my own server is a HUGE plus as well! Hats off to the devs on this one!

I played the starter levels.. then the dragon fight arena opened up at my home...

So I decided to take on the mighty dragon.

...And I died after scratching him for 69 hp out of his 1,000,000 health!

Awesome game. From being able to pawn a pile of loot and gamble on a 'dice roll' for something really good to the online co-op feature.

Add in the insanely awesome level design editor where you can make an adventure to share with all other players, and you have a a truly great RPG gem of a game.

While some people are calling this game "Diablo meets Little Big Planet", I don't see much Diablo here except for the massive random loot you'll collect. In my opinion, this game is what "The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot" should have been. This game is 10 times better then the Mighty Quest For Epic Loot with 50 times more control and creativity allowed in your level editor. And this game allows you to play co-op as you adventure as well, and oh, yeh this game doesn't ask for any pay-to-win upgrades or perks as does Epic Loot.

So, if you've ever played Mighty Quest For Epic Loot, and enjoyed any aspect of that game, then this game is a MUST-BUY!

In my opinion, this is my first ever 'Must Buy' game I've bought and played on Steam, and with over 100 games to date in my library, that's saying something. :-)

Enjoy!

An absolute beast of a game. The art style is unique and attractive and the level system is so well-balanced that you can play normally without grinding. I have wasted a good 10+ hours and the stress-free multiplayer system makes it quick and easy to get into a game with friends. I recommend this to anyone looking for a casual-hardcore multiplayer experience.

Fight the Dragon was for me one of those unexpected discoveries! I wasn't sure if the game was worth buying for I watched a couple streamers play it and I was instantly charmed! I bought a 4-Pack to give it out to my friends and I don't regret it!

The core gameplay is quite enjoyable while the user generated content is a pure gem! Sometimes you can find adventures/levels that are truely engaging with incredible storytelling created with a somewhat limited toolset.

14 hours in and there's still a lot of content to tackle! Very, very good game :)

For a dungeon crawler, this is totally different because WE create our own if we feel like it. It breaks away from the mold that comes from overrated builders like Minecraft. As a level builder type game, it's worth playing because of the challenge made by various users and under the short time that we played it, we had fun, silly crazy fun and this game was enjoyable!

Lots of customiation options, great loot incentive, and adictive play mechanics. I find myself wishing the adventures were a little more "meaty" but perhaps with time the community can rectify that. Overall a great product!

This game is a lot of fun. If you like hack and slash games of pure gameplay then this is a great game for you. This is a sandbox game. You play dungeons made by other players and the developers or can make your own with an easy to use map editor system. The purpose is to become strong enough to fight the dragon, a very power ful creature that will take a long time to defeat. It's a fun game, especially if you play with friends. Each class has its own special abilities and weapon types.

This game as it is, most definitely worth the 11 dollars I paid, I dont even like this kind of game, I dont know why I bought it really, I am more into games like Skyrim, Fallout, Metro etc.
I guess I got this game because it looked like something that could just be a fun game to play in short sessions and not have heavy decisions to make or mods to install .. What I have found is that I LIKE THIS KIND OF GAME! well this one anyway. The game is simple at face value, run around smashing stuff pick up loot, sell loot, go smash more stuff get better gear THE END. But theres so much more, an intersting trade sytem that allows you to trade all your useless junk you found for a chance at better gear or stat points. A great dragon with a million health to try killing, and best of all, the real shining star of this game, the level editor, lots of games have level editors but I dont think any have implimented them into the game so seamlessly as this, build a level ( I can barely install windows and I managed to build one) publish it and presto there is quite litterally endless content to play that will keep leveling up from feeling like a grind. Vote levels up or down, favorite and subscribe to you favorite publishers.... great potential here. If a level is too tuff : no problem come back later and try again I LOVE the non linear approach to the "adventures". and the fact that most range from 5 to 20 minutes is nice, digestible chunks !
As far as being early access there are a few quirks that could be smoothed out but nothing more than minor annoyances, seems totally playable to me.
Anyway, this was a total surprise find for me and I recommend this game !

Early Access Review
I'm long overdue to post a review for this game. Why have I waited so long? Because I've been having so much fun playing and creating, I hardly use my spare time for anything else! I think it's an outstanding, highly entertaining game! The community-generated "adventures" make this game virtually unlimited in it's original gameplay content.

I should also add that I'm new to both the Hack & Slash and RPG genres...they just never appealed to me before. I bought this game because I think the devs are fantastic, having played both Cubemen and Cubemen 2, but I wasn't sure I would care for it that much. Boy, was I wrong to even think that! Now, I'm completely hooked and having a great time playing, interacting with the community in sharing/playing adventures, and in creating my own. The built in Adventure Construction Kit (ACK) is quite sophisticated yet easy to use. You can be building and publishing great-looking adventures in a fairly short amount of time.

So whether you're a seasoned pro in Hack n Slash and RPG games, or new to the genre as I was, I'm confident you're going to enjoy this game. If the current "Early Access" state is a concern for you, don't let it be. I would consider this a complete game...that just keeps getting better with each update, as cool new features are added on a regular basis.

Now it's time to go back and conquer more "worlds" as I add to the already 450+ hours I've got in this game! That in itself should tell you quite a bit about how I feel about Fight the Dragon.

As dev of McDroid I can tell you that was they achieved here is amazing: integrating user generated levels into the game in such a seamless way, with well done facilities to thumb up and down, comment levels and make your own levels and publishing. I never made my own level in such a well designed tool and it was a blast. Seeing the number of people playing is addictive, akin to facebooking. The great thing about UG levels is the spectrum of game style is vast: from arcade to intricate RPG stories with fantastic ramp up in difficulty. The amount of level is enormous, the quality varies.

The main game loop is: hack, pick up worthy loot, sell the least valuable to get extra goodies, level up.
On top of that you attack a Dragon with a ginormous amount of HP, when you die, and you will die very often, you get kicked out of the arena and go back to the main game of leveling up, the HP is kept where it was.

This makes for a very addictive game.

Highly recommended.

Early Access Review
This is the Little Big Planet of Hack and Slash RPGs. Do not expect torchlight or diablo or titan quest or any of the other AAA hack and slash games with this one. What you get is a quirky art style and a ton of bite sized adventures. ( Campaigns are incoming and will likely link together two or more adventures ).

The main reason to get this game is the fact that the ACK ( Adventure Creation kit ) allows you to design and create a variety of adventures ranging from simple 1 room arena battles to complex dungeons with puzzles, switche,s traps, platforming, and locked doors that require you to get a color coded key - ( Doom anyone? ).

I've only had this game for two days but have already created and published 3 adventures.

If you want a hack and slash game that looks overly simple but has suprising depth and limitless content, pick this up.

If you want to create short engaging little adventures that range from 5 minutes of gameplay to 30 minutes of gameplay pick this up. The ACK is the easiest to use editor I have ever used.

Oh I almost forgot that unlike most games, this one has a BOSS DRAGON that you need to earn scrolls to be able to teleport to the Dragon's Lair and try and defeat him. He has persistent health and this is a must considering he has 1,000,000 health and the firs titme I fought him I managed to deal 50 damage total with 3 lives. Second time I dealt 650 and that was after levelling up for hours!

Fight the Dragon is a user-generated action RPG, which can be good or bad based on the community involved in making the content. If you're looking for good content, I recommend NOT looking at the highest rated content because they happen to be the most bland and generic of them all. It makes me wonder how exactly they became the top rated in the first place, while unique and creative maps go completely unnoticed. This is because of how the game streamlines new content; it does it very poorly. There is a "new content" tab but its clearly filled with "not new content" because of the amount of ratings each map has, as if they haven't updated the new content tab since alpha. You just have to hope that your map falls under the "local unplayed map" pool that seems to be randomly generated for each user, since that is the actual "new content" tab, but this tab seems to only have like 5-7 maps at a time. I published my map yesterday, and as of right now, only one person other than me has played it. This game prides itself for over-saturation of content, when in reality, it's the main downfall of this game. You really have to sift through a lot of crap to find a few gems, or just give up and make your own gems that only you will end up playing anyway.

Which brings me to why im recommending this game: The level editor.
If you like creating your own levels, but are completely stupid and impatient when it comes to using editors (like me), then I highly recommend this game, because not only is the editor extremely easy to use, its also very intricate. You can do practically anything with this level editor. Every interactable item or prop you can place has its own programmable event tab, which you can use to trigger events throughout your level. Events such as "When this monster dies, break down breakable wall" or "When player opens this chest, close X doors and spawn Y monsters in vicinity". There are so many things you can do with this level editor, that you will spend so many hours messing with it and thinking of creative ways to use it. The only problem I have with it is that there's not a huge selection of props, textures, and enemies.

Now you may be saying to yourself "That's great and all, but hows the gameplay?"
Well, the combat is a bit clunky and needs improvement... But LOOK AT HOW SHINY THIS LEVEL EDITOR IS!

In all seriousness though, if you like to create your own levels, but don't have the knowledge or patience to use a professional editor, then it is well worth the money. The game itself ain't half bad either, if you can deal with a few bad eggs.
