The reviews for this mark it as very good for a reason. As I've said in my reviews of other games that come across more as an art medium than a way to throw out a specific story, I love this kind of thing. I'm glad that I finally dug it out of my library, installed it, and played it.
What a lot of reviews here seem to miss is the sheer amount of references that the game makes. Television ranging from the late 50's to current trends, nods to Hunter S. Thompson, Clockwork Orange, every single pop culture thing you can think of - with an absolutely RAGING sense of parody and humor that nails cyberpunk tropes to the wall in an obvious and refreshing way. It's very hard to find any faults with the game itself.
Other than the fact that I had random graphical slow-downs and it crashed on me right at the ending. Yes, it is short, yes, the minigames are extremely fun - and yes, there is
an overall plot underlying the entire thing. However, this seems to be a way to tie it together, where the main point of the game seems to be a message from the developers, "These are all things we like, and we want to make fun of all of them at the same time, and we came up with a really cool looking design to do it with." - The game is hilarious, the gags are funny, and the references made me light up at times, and believe me, there are a looootttt of references.
My favorite parts of the game I've already mentioned. It's artsy, it's bizarre, it uses the cyberpunk style-before-substance trope, along with a very weak plot that somehow manages to be a strength due to the extreme expresison of the parody within it, and the nods to famous pop culture icons throughout. While making a parody of many of these things, it does so in a Weird Al Yankovic manner, rather paying tribute to what it makes fun of. Drugs, booze, psychedelia, the breadth of pop culture ranging from late 1950's to the present, a unique style, and really funny achievements.
Other than crashing out, I can't think of anything that's bad with this game. Yes, it is short, but that's the whole point. I'm surprised I didn't see any Subgenius references, or maybe I wasn't looking too hard. Oh well, I'll cut them some slack on this, and hope that they genuinely do receive salvation or triple their money back.
I regret not playing this sooner. 7.5/10.
