When this first came out on steam they only gave you 20 continues to beat the game. That was a huge problem considering this is the most brutally hard and unfair game of all time. One-hit deaths, screen filled with bullets and enemies, and a thousand BS ways to die even if you know the patterns. Not even Silver Surfer or Battletoads for nes can touch this game's difficulty. Since then it has been updated to include what it should've had in the first place, an infinite continue option to simulate being at the arcade and feeding as many quarters as we want into the machine and not be limited to only 20 quarters. When it was without infinite continues, I had gotten to the last boss and died and quit playing the game for good. I just found out they updated it and finished the game. Without the infinite continue option I definitely wouldn't recommend this because all that does is brings back days of horror of putting a quarter in this arcade machine and losing both lives in about ten seconds because they go into the game options in the arcades and jack up game's difficulties to make people have to spend more money. We didn't know that back in the day so we would have to spend dollar after dollar to beat even one level. I usually stuck with more fair games like SF2 or whatever.

Anyway, it is cool now that it gives you unlimited continues. I would appreciate it if in the future they don't try to turn my PC into a simulation of being at the arcade when I was 14 and not being able to play enough because my mom didn't give me enough quarters before she left.

I know a lot of people consider it a classic mega hit, but to me it is just a reminder that some old arcade games were just designed to steal your money unfairly. 7/10

This game was designed to be unfair and impossible in some occations until you throw your corpse at them over and over. At lest you only pay like $8 for this game unlike the normal arcarde where to actually beat the game you would need your life savings in quarters. Still fun and brings back memories of only being able to beat the first level!

Genre - 2D Side Scrolling Action Shooter (Comedy Sci-Fi/Horror)
I have played Metal SLug game intermittently over the years on differnt formats, sometimes co-op and sometimes single. THis game stays true to form and has the comedy and action in equal measures. You can play through at your own place and there is much fun to be had. You pick up different weapons and can use vehicles throughout. Bad guys range from scared soldiers to giant aliens. The game will have you coming back for more especially if you drag a friend along for the ride.

This game reminds me of my youth in the arcades. It's a classic that anyone who played the 'Metal Slug' games in the past should have. A good port en recently (November 2014) got an update with trading cards, infinite continues and some other improvements.
Graphics and sound effects are retro but can be put in 1920*1080 resolution. Released in 2000 and still a fun game to play. Works perfect with an Xbox 360 controller.
A classic with some improvements for today's gaming. Can be very difficult and sometimes frustrating. This was the point in the arcades - the more you die the more coins you had to put in the machine.
Prepare to die a lot!

This game is so much fun! I love that there's an easy mode for players (like me!) who aren't that good and run and gun type of games but still like to have fun playing them. Plus, you turn into a zombie and spew blood as an attack. It doesn't get much better than this.

The classic arcade shoot-em-up.

Keep note that this version is a port of the iOS version, so while it's not exactly a perfect arcade port, it still plays and handles rather well. There are some slight sound anomolys with the emulation, but quite frankly it's as close as you're gonna get with the true METAL SLUG experience on Steam.

As for the game itself, 3 is known to be the best (and the hardest) of the series. And after 14 years, this still holds true. Saying that, once you learn the patterns of the enemies and bosses, and know the best routes to take and where the weapons and vehicles drop, you'll be mastering the game soon enough.

Online play seems to be pretty solid, provided you and your partner have good connections to each other.

Overall, I would say; Yes, buy this game if you're a fan of the series. If you're looking for a better emulation version, though, see if you can pick up the Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2 or Wii, which has the games 1-6 and is a really stable port.

This version is still perfectly playable despite the slight emulation annoyances.

While this port has some issues and is pretty much emulation, this version of Metal Slug 3 is a good one to mess around with, and it gets all better with the included multiplayer. If you're a fan of the Metal Slug series, this is for you!

As much as I love Metal Slug... this version is really f#@&'d up.

1. "Waiting for other player"
This message randomly pops up in my games. Neither one of us pressed [ESCAPE] to pause the game or press [ALT]+[TAB]
THIS IS RANDOM

2. Frame drops for unknown reason
Me and my Russian friend had a serious stutter frame drops. It drops like a every 20 seconds or so. Hard to enjoy the game.

I really wish SNK could fix this...
