The classic arcade shoot-em-up.

Keep note that this version is a port of the iOS version, so while it's not exactly a perfect arcade port, it still plays and handles rather well. There are some slight sound anomolys with the emulation, but quite frankly it's as close as you're gonna get with the true METAL SLUG experience on Steam.

As for the game itself, 3 is known to be the best (and the hardest) of the series. And after 14 years, this still holds true. Saying that, once you learn the patterns of the enemies and bosses, and know the best routes to take and where the weapons and vehicles drop, you'll be mastering the game soon enough.

Online play seems to be pretty solid, provided you and your partner have good connections to each other.

Overall, I would say; Yes, buy this game if you're a fan of the series. If you're looking for a better emulation version, though, see if you can pick up the Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2 or Wii, which has the games 1-6 and is a really stable port.

This version is still perfectly playable despite the slight emulation annoyances.

This game was designed to be unfair and impossible in some occations until you throw your corpse at them over and over. At lest you only pay like $8 for this game unlike the normal arcarde where to actually beat the game you would need your life savings in quarters. Still fun and brings back memories of only being able to beat the first level!

Has a few bugs and crashes every once in a while but over all pretty good port to PC.

Diversão ao estilo clássico arcade. É melhor se for jogado em dupla, mas é uma pena não suportar mais jogadores.

The game is awesome and is my favourite metal slug. ...Oh wait, im talking about the arcade/xbox version. This PC port is a slow piece of crap, it has alot of sound problems like the go sound being horribly bitcrushed and ♥♥♥♥, The controls suck monkey balls but can be changed (thank god!) and overall this port is ♥♥♥♥. Makes me wanna puke. if you wanna play metal slug 3, get a original xbox and buy the game for it (should be cheap),get a emulator for pc (winkawaks etc) or simply get a arcade cab.
"arcade-perfect" port my @ss.

Do not buy this game. I thought that if I get this game I will have unlimited credits. I thought I can set my own credits and life. You get only 20 credits no matter the level of difficulty. If you used up all your 20 credits, too bad you cant continue and you lose. I spent $8 on this game give me my unlimited credits, give me the full control of this game.

It's really weird how I found this game: my favorite animals are slugs, so one day I had nothing to play, I searched for "slug" and whips! Then I found it. I know the game don't have anything with animal slug to do, but it's still awesome :3

I dont know why,it was suppose to be so fun.but now get bore so quick >< maybe because factor of age~ it was fun when i was a child but not when adult(I'm adult? ^_^'). Player will get bore easily buy continues shooting/jump/countless die(every less then 10 depend on difficulties).Maybe it is time for Metal slug to move on come out with something new~ it is not wrong to maintain the classic, but don't make the game flat

60% it will enjoy if it playable on mobile phone~

This review is based only on my opinion, MY OPINION. And so far...

Metal Slug built my childhood. I would always play this until I ran out of quarters at a bowling alley or play it all day non-stop on the PSX, it is a fun 2D nostalgic, fast paced, run and gun, action shooting arcade game. What really runied my fun was that roughly nearly every 43s (not certain) I would always get a random lag spike which would always cause me to lose a life making it nearly impossible to get the "Master Ninja" achievement (Finish the game without using a continue) which really annoyed me. There is also no "free play" option which allows you to continue as many times as you want after you lose all your lives, your limit is only 20 continues. The multiplayer is also limited, to play multiplayer you have to invite a friend who has the SAME game in order to play instead of searching for lobbies, (Personally I perfer searching of lobbies) but overall YES Metal Slug is fun and RECOMMENDED, BUT if you want all the missing features that were mentioned above, I think getting Metal Slug X is the way to go.

So many childhood memories of draining my parents quarters at Pizza Hut to play Metal Slug 3...I love this game (franchise). The port is very faithful with welcomed additions like easy normal and hard difficulties. It is local and online co-op, which is where the replayability is for the most part. Other trademark features of the game are still retained, with different paths to choose, different vehicles and animals to drive - this arcade classic is so over-the-top-ridiculous you'll be glad you bought it.
