minor update to fix bugs

Fixes
  • Justice - fixed an issue that occasionally allowed Justice to get stuck 'unkillable' when certain weapons took the last hitpoint while shutdown
  • Justice - fixed the Head Throw state so he can be defeated during his throw and so all weapons will attack properly
  • Fixed a case where S+ auto restart could trigger after a successful S+ stage clear

  • updated the application icon :)

Tweaks
  • Justice - the point his lightning attack is measured from is more consistent now

Early Access Update 10 - Stage Select and Cloud Saves

We are happy to release our new Stage Select! It replaces the old Debug system we've had for so long and introduces zone progression and Cloud Saving

All unlocks will be cleared, but the good news is from now on, unlocks are saved and shared across your Steam profile, and will transfer between machines and operating systems.

The Stage Select features more information per level! You can browse leaderboards and see which characters have achieved which rank (single player only) all from Stage Select!

We are also unveiling our new logo! It's unusual to change the logo at this stage of a project, but we felt it wasn't properly representing the game. We think our new one is closer in tone, better for carrying us forwards to release and hope you like it! It looks a little awkward on the title screen but we'll be reworking it in a future update.

Features/changes
  • New Stage Select System - the next zone is locked until the boss is defeated, leaderboard and rank information is displayed in world
  • Cloud Save support - progress and game settings are shared across your Steam profile
  • Remastered music
  • Improved Venom camera behaviour during Phase 3 and 7
  • Cool new logo featuring space-age 3D effects!

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with Peanut's drill attack targetting enemies it wasn't meant to
  • Fixed an issue with Peanut's drill attack getting caught on certain types of geometry
  • Fixed some places where Peanut's molten magma and Shiitake's propeller mines would float in the air after the ground they were on vanished
  • Fixed an issue where missiles would impact missing ground
  • Changed the way Venom's score was being applied during his string turret phases which will have an impact on highest theoretical score. As a result, Venom's leaderboard has been reset
  • Cleaned up some code related to Vespula. As a precaution, Vespula's leaderboard has been reset
  • Streamlined menu flow in a couple of places
  • Actually fixed the Wasps Getting Stuck bug. No really, I mean it this time

Known Issues
  • When starting the game with "-popupwindow" in order to play in full screen windowed mode (in Windows) you will not be able to set the game to fullscreen mode, but the options menu does not reflect this
  • Native Dual Shock 3 support in OSX is busted. It is possible to work around it using a control remapper that makes the DS3 to emulate an xbox pad or similar, and we are working on a proper fix
  • Shadows are missing on certain integrated videocards under Linux
  • Native Steam Controller support still coming soon
  • Aubergine's singularity effect looks different on Linux. Functionality is fine, it's just distorting the screen in the wrong direction. Been tricky to figure out...

A bullet storm top down shooter with excellent gameplay, music, level design, boss fights and unique player characters each with their own weapon loadout and personality. Very fun to play, and game had had constant updates throughout its Early Access stage.

I can't wait for the full version of the game, and uh, more playable characters. :)

Was a good game, i beat all the levels in the demos. Some of the characters are better at certain levels then others, the third boss i could only beat with the boomerang girl.

It is a great twin stick shooter. It's one of thosoe games you play just to kill a little time or if you don't know what else to play. It would be better if it had a online co-op, I could see it doing very well with that.

Worth the buy just to see how Early Access can be done right, full stop. But it helps that the game is fantastic, I guess.

Great music, graphics that look like a great PS2 game with perfect IQ, frenetic but highly fluid action that runs well even on a fairly poor PC. One of the best twin stick shooters I've played; controller recommended but mouse works fine. Note the game is pretty hard, and score MATTERS; your "life" is a battery that constantly drains (not by taking damage, by time), and you get battery pickups by scoring. You will have to be good to beat this game.

As for the Early Access, this is how it's done. From the very start it was clear what was done, what was being worked on. The place holder graphics were clearly not final but polished in their own way that it's not quite so jarring to play an unfinished level. More than enough good music to make it feel like a final release, and gameplay is extremely tight.

Overall it feels like you're playing a curated selection of a finished game rather than unfinished chunks of randomness that the creators will polish later. Everything you experience feels polished enough to let real people play, even if it's not finalized it's still playable and not too hard on the eyes, ears or fingers.

Accelerating and radical!
Assault Android Cactus while having one of the weirder titles i've come across, this is by far one of the best Isometric shooters i've seen in years.

Let me start by saying that i adore the cute design they gave these ''Androids'' by giving them different weapons and strategies to have new ways to approach each given level.

The soundtrack is upbeat and really makes things intense as thousands of enemies just drop by out of nowhere.
Oh and the artstyle/design is quite creative and never feels quite repetitive.

Despite being in early access, this game is still alot of fun and is best played with more than one player.

I recomend you to try this game with your friends, toss them a controller and have a blast!

This game is awesome. It's quick, it's fun and you're going to replay levels to try to beat your best score. It's in early access, yes, but if the final product is anything like this, it's totally worth the price. I would like to see the graphics improved slightly (there doesn't seem to be any anti aliasing) and support for more widescreen and HD resolutions (like 1366x768) but it is an awesome game.

The price is a steal and the developers are onto something here. They understand gaming doesn't always have to be serious and we are in this to have fun. This game is fun, colourful and you unlock more characters as you go along. Each character comes with a standard and alternative weapon, but they're all different, which makes for interesting combinations in multiplayer. If you're unsure, there is a demo available, though I do believe you're getting more value than what they're asking for it.

As for the technical stuff, it is a top down shooter, which supports keyboard and mouse, or a gamepad. It has local co-op too so that's a plus if you have friends over. As I mentioned before, the graphics could do with a few tweaks, but it is by no means unattractive. The gameplay is fluid and you will be moving around the arena a lot while gunning down hordes of machines. There are powerups available, which also encourage you to keep moving. The music is upbeat and adds to the fast-paced atmosphere.

I'd give it a solid 8/10, with the hope that the final product will be as fun, or even more so.

Many, many moons ago I was obsessed with an arcade game called 'Robotron' I must have sank hundreds of 10p's into that machine. Every chance I got during school dinner I would be playing it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DGoANiX-ZI

Now it's 2014 and not many clones of the game are around. Thankfully 'Assault Android Cactus' is here and my obsession is rekindled :) This is a top down shooter of the finest kind.... it plays amazing, it looks amazing and it's very addictive. For an early access game I'm very impressed. I plan to sink a lot of hours into this title, I've been waiting for it for 35 years. - Enjoy!

(Review for Update 8.5)

This is entirely subjective - I know many like the game.

I hate it.

The devs have done a brilliant job of updating and improving the game, but they've changed a few things recently like the music, which now has lost all the "pumped up" vibe and just sounds flat and miserable. They've added voice overs - replacing the ones that were already there which were great - with ones that make me want to pack broken glass into my ears - absolutely AWFUL - Mute the sound unless you like pain.

The actual game itself has a "correct way to play" which isn't the same as your average twin stick shooter - they've made a number of design choices that seperate them from other games of its type (which is to be applauded) - unfortnately, every single one of them is stupid - There is a reason noone has done this before, guys, and thats because it's rubbish.

It's a hardcore game, with a deep scoring system; fantastic graphics and fluid gameplay - but its just no fun.

So as I read this statement "Do you recommend this game?" I wonder....do I truly?

Yes. All of my yes. This is actually my first purchase on Steam that was FULL PRICE. All of my friends that know me, know you gotta do a lot to make me pay for anything full price. What makes this game good?

First off, let's begin with gameplay. Gameplay can be described as a combination between Smash TV with the aestetics of Bomberman. Sounds weird but plays great. You have a primary and secondary weapon which you can switch between. That simple. There are multiple characters and actual unlockable ones. I'm being honest when I say that these aren't just simple re-skins. With how the engine runs, every character playstyle is drastically different. Only thing that stays the same is you have to keep moving regardless of character.

The controls are not complicated at all. R-trigger shoots. Right stick aims. Left Stick moves. I think left trigger swaps weapons. Pay attention to your cooldown time with weapons, keep moving, and priotitize. If you do this then you're golden.

Music is very catchy. It's not exactly the same as the trailer music was originally. All tracks start of mellow making you slightly bob your head which snowballs when the beat drops. I'm halfway through the game and a perfect example would be the hive. The checkpoint stage I couldnt help but shoot to the beat like I was Ulala or something. Would I download the soundtrack? You beat you sweet and/or sour bottom I would!

Now everybody wants to be a critic and say "What about the graphics?". It's not Crisis 3 nor does it need to be. It's art style compliments the gameplay. Why would I want to play a top down shooter that has over the top graphics. There is too much that goes on in this game and truthfully you need the change in colors so you don't foolishly just run into the bullets because you can't tell that they're bullets. Can't say it's too colorful or too dark. It's just right.

Final notes: I can't believe this is still just an Alpha. That scares the crap out of me. I'm happy to own this game and hope you get it. The only turn off could possibly be the art style since that may not be for everyone. All in all I suggest buying it. There's not much I can peg this game for and it's challenging. Like old school challenging also while being played as a respectable shump.

Rating: 5/5
