Life Goes On Launch Pushed Back 24 Hours

2 Απριλίου 2014

As with most news you read on the internet on April 1st, yesterday’s announcement of Life Goats On wasn’t serious. We hope that you enjoyed it though, and if you didn't see the fun, check out our blog post and video here.

Today we do have some unfortunate news though -- the Life Goes On launch date is being pushed back. Fortunately, it’s only 24 hours. The game will be available on the April 17th. We need the extra day to make some things work on our end, and we are very sorry for the delay. We promise that this token launch delay is absolutely not goat related...

To ease the pain of the extra day of waiting, we have some info about our later game content that we are revealing today. For more info, go to our blog.

We're also pleased to announce that Life Goes On will launch on Steam with a 25% launch week discount. This means that you can pick up LGO for $9.74 USD, instead of the regular $12.99 USD. The launch discount will also apply to international territories.

Life Goes On is a comically-morbid platformer where you guide heroic knights to their demise and use their dead bodies to solve puzzles. On your quest to find the Cup of Life, you will summon knight after knight to be brutally sacrificed. Impale knights on spikes to create a safe path. Catch a knight on a saw blade (ouch!) to strategically land the body on a button. Freeze your knights into blocks of ice to reach higher ground. As you journey through treacherous and trap-ridden worlds, you’ll show no mercy to solve each challenging puzzle.

In Life Goes On, death is not a setback. It is the only means to success.

I was asked to check out Life Goes On for my first impressions video series. I'm very glad I was as it's a very imaginative puzzler that I've continued playing in my off time as a result of enjoying it so much. The game has a much needed sense of humour about things (since otherwise you're just commiting mass puzzle solving murder) and is a lot of fun. The puzzles themselves vary a bit in terms of difficulty but once you get a grip on the mechanics I don't think you'll ever get frustrated to the point of giving up. New mechanics get introduced with each new location you visit also, such as being able to freeze your knights or make them levitate.

If you're curious to see it in action my first impressions video can be seen below.

An Indie platform puzzler that puts the mass in massacre. The game was developed by Infinite Monkeys Entertainment and was originally conceived at the 2012 Global Game Jam. The main aim of each level is to reach the golden cup, the holy grail so to speak. How do you do this with all the death traps you ask? Well its easy when your a king, with a portal and have an infinite number of knights to send to their deaths until you can accomplish your goal.

In Life Goes On, if you die that's not the end, instead you just send another knight through the spawn portal. This is not just a piece of gimmicky morbid comedy, it is in fact a core mechanic of the game. Sometimes having to sacrifice your minions is required to progress or solve a puzzle. An example of this is if the objective is across a floor of spikes, lay down the lives of your knights so one can climb across the hole ridden bodies to reach the grail.

In other platformers, you sole objective would be to avoid a deadly trap however in Life goes on, you may need to use that trap to accomplish your goal, perhaps you need to sacrifice a knight on a saw blade to strategically land the body on a button or build a mound of bodies to reach a ledge. What this means is that obstacles in Life Goes On are not just obstacles they become useful tools to use to progress.

Overall Life Goes On is certainly a good platformer that provides a mix of enjoyment, comedy and challenge. The game provides a unique twist and this twist provides great synergy of the level design and mechanics. For anyone who loves the genre it will certainly cure that puzzler platformer itch. Puzzle platformer is a genre which the indie scene has taken up whole heartedly. It’s a heavily saturated market and because of this you need a stand out feature or gimmick in order to be successful. We’ve seen water manipulation, magnetism and some even let you wind back the clock. Life Goes On has chosen to use dead knights as its “gimmick”, using them as a platforming and puzzle solving tool. The problem is instead of using them as a standout feature and allowing for amazing puzzle design, it’s there for no more than a quick chuckle.

Life Goes On is a sidescroller that has you killing knights and then using their lifeless corpses to solve puzzles. It is morbid but enjoyable at the same time. Every new knight has its own unique name and the less knights you have to kill to reach the end of a level means a better score. I suggest trying out the demo for yourself.
