What the developers have to say:

“Thank you for checking out our Early Access page! If you support us now, you will be able to try out the combat mechanics in the arena prototype, duel your friends on the same machine by hooking up two controllers, and use the integrated level editor to explore and modify a number of included environments. You will be able to try out the features in the new alpha videos as soon as they are released.

However! The game is still undergoing very active development, so you can expect bugs and performance issues as the game progresses and changes. In its current state, it is more like a sandbox of technology and martial arts, and less like a story-driven action-adventure. If you want to play through a polished campaign, you may want to wait until the game is fully completed! If you would like to have fun experimenting with our technology and mechanics as they evolve, and support us as we complete the game, then now is a great time to join our community.

Sincerely,
David Rosen”

I love this game...... when it works. there are so many more crashes than there used to be. maybe there should be a ps4 port where it runs smoother on a full potential, low-end GPU.

In its current state there is no story or map to explore but there is some extremely fun and satisfying combat. A great fighting game to play in local mulitplayer that can lead to hours of fun.

I purchased this game way before it went to Steam. I used to wait excitedly for each update to see what was new. Over time the updates got worse and worse. I bought this to be a game to play but the last 100+ updates have been graphic related. Whats worse is that the graphic in this game aren't even that good. I orignially thought this was going to turn out to be something great but instead it has turned out that help finance the creation of a game engine. With very little gameplay options and no news of that changing anytime soon I would stay away for this.

Don't buy it. Complete waste of money. It may look cool and I thought I could play it for a couple hours screwing around at least but didn't make it past 30 minutes before giving up. This game should be taken off Steam.

This game is solid for an early access. The title has earned a special place in our scam list, and most would agree that the number of devs that abuse the system are enormous. However, after a long period of stagnant development, the devs have come back, and fequent updates seem to have come back.

Is the price of 30USD waaay too much? Yes. At it's current stage of development, I'd say 10-15 is a much, much better price. I'd recommend waiting until it's on sale for at least 50% off. That way, you don't feel like you're risking too much on a game that, as always, could just stop being updated forever.

It's more of an arcade game at the moment. It's fun to play occationally, messing around with the weapons and parkour mechanics. Get it at a good price, and you shouldn't feel ripped off. Summer sales, ho!

I was 13 years old when I started following this project. Being such a huge fan of Lugaru as a flawed gem I was super excited about this because I was thinking "Holy ♥♥♥♥ a sequel to lugaru with updated graphics? Sign me up".

I am 21 years old as I write this review. A lot has happened over the span of 9 years; Duke Nukem Forever and Th4f released and were both awful, Half Life 3 still isn't out (Though at this rate it'll be out before overgrowth even gets into beta) I've had my first alcoholic drink, I've found someone I love enough to marry, David Rosen, a man behind this project(?) who made me want to get into game development when I was younger cause of how much I loved Black Shades and Lugaru has said some unbelievably ignorant things on twitter, yet still, despite all of that, Overgrowth is still in alpha.

They update this game half as often as they used to since the game went on steam; Presumably because they have made the money they wanted to make off of this through early access.

It's tough to complain about a game that is still being updated because I'd be the first to say that I'd rather a game get developed long enough to be polished rather than release in an Ubisoft tier state of bugginess, but there comes a point where it's just time to let go. If you want to play a game like this, just go get Lugaru HD. Its map design is very simplistic but at least it feels somewhat finished unlike Overgrowth.

Overgrowth is a shell of an actual game. It's more of a tech demo. Overgrowth has been in development for like 8 years and the progress that it's made in the last 3 years is laughable.

I've had some fun with it, but I just want my money back at this point. Not worth the $30. I know the story mode is never going to come, and this game is never going to be polished.

Taking to long. I know what I was getting into already. But the question is "Do I recommend this game?"....Only if they want to play it 20 years from now.

I wanted to like this game so much and was very excited to support it...in 2010.

With all due respect to their fine tuning and sandbox improvements; it's the same tech demo it was six years ago.

Don't even think about supporting this until they have someone of value here.

I've grown up with this game, it has tought me many things

Not because it's good...but because it's been in ♥♥♥♥ing alpha for about all my teenage years.

It's seriously like the bellends who develop this have got no clue what it's even going to be so it's never going to be fully released. The ♥♥♥♥ing modding community has added more than the devs already.

See you when it's finally in beta in 2066, k

EDIT: Game cancelled? Yet anothher excellent example of why we should not buy into early access ♥♥♥♥.
