FORCED v1.22, Connecting people

Hi!

We have finally uploaded the massive network solution we've been working on for months. In short it replaces the old code we had and utilizes the steam backend, which should now allow more than 99% of people to connect to each other.
Before that people might have been stuck in different router setups that we hadn't predicted, but that should no longer occur.

Minor bugs may have been introduced due to this massive update, but we haven't had any reports for days now, and we've been playing a lot as well. So we are pretty sure Forced should now offer you a great experience no matter what evil router from hell you might have in your dungeon. But if you encounter a bug please post it on the forum, we will check on a daily basis.

Playing with randoms is awesome:
While playing recently, I encountered Seolfer (rank 2 in single player), who didn't knew I was one of the developers. So I thought “I'm not gonna tell him that” and I still haven't... :)
That lead to one of my best experiences with FORCED so far. We've been playing for hours and I was treated like a random internet guy from Denmark. Even without voice communication we were actually able to get the challenge crystals in world 4, amazing telekinetic play! :)
It's quite a special experience to play a campaign driven game with a random player over the web. You share an intimate problem-solving time over several hours, and might never meet again. Well I just wanted to recommend grabbing a few crystals like that, instead of only using friends.
So if you meet Seolfer or similar awesomely behaving entities, you should definitely grab some trials with them :)

Lastly thanks for actively helping us fix the new network solution.

FORCED love!
@Baboonlord and @BetaDwarf

If you are looking for a couch coop game, this one is the best or one of the best.
Levels include increasingly challenging puzzle and hack n slash level. Some levels are almost purely slow puzzly levels, some are fast paced fighting levels and rest are some combination of those two.
Game mechanics are simple and are introduced sufficiently smoothly so you don't feel overwhelmed. Later on these mechanics are combined in various ways and the game never feels boring.

Biggest con for this game would be that its not a single-player game. You can play it alone but its not even half the fun.

So if you are looking for a coop game to have fun with your friends this game is for you.

Exellent local CO-OP game ever!
Play like Impossible Bosses but with some sub-boss to fight first before fighting the big boss!
The combination of characters gives you ability to win the game easier and funnier. You and your friends may need more communication during the game to solve some simple logic tasks!

Forced is a multiplayer heavy game. i really dont recommend playing alone, as it is not as much fun and also some of the challanges are very hard or even impossible without other people helping you control the orb/ fight the mobs.
it would also be pretty cool to see each class have their own "combo" with each other that can change your playstyle if you change class instead of just holding the attack button and use your skill when enemies are fully marked (marks is a system where if you hit the enemies they will get mark, more marks=more damage to skills)

gameplay is basically a multiplayer coop puzzle action rpg game, where gems act as "levels" , more gems you have means more skills/shortcuts are unlocked for your character. i dont really like the only 3 shortcuts at max, but maybe this is so the game wouldnt be too easy, as the skills dont have that long cool down.

my favourite part is probably the bossest. each have their own way to kill and each works differently, you may need to swap a few classes to see which is most efficient for which boss.

graphics are pretty good, not in a high res way, but it looks pretty unique in the enemy/your character design, though i wish there is more customization done for your character other than picking out which skill to use.

fun game, even more with friends. get it if you have friends to play, if not then they do have lobbies for that but it seems like the servers have wobbly connectiong or net code because it connects whenever it feels like, only when its a private game your friend or you make will work. at least, thats what happened to me. this will probably get fixed soon.

I played this game co-op with a friend. I have not tried single player. That said, the game was quite fun with one other person and requires a signifcant amount of teamwork to complete challenges and to fight bosses.

FORCED is an interesting take on the action rpg genre. Instead of running around solely fighting hordes of monsters, you have arenas that you must enter and complete challenges. You also have an NPC that you must guide around who is an integral part of completing these challenges, which usually involves calling him to particular locations, causing him to move over shrines or other objectives to complete objectives while monsters are there to get in the way and make things more difficult. I wouldn't go so far as to call these challenges puzzles, as it is usually pretty obvious what needs to be done and is more a matter of execution.

There are a panoply of abilities you can unlock to help you destroy monsters. They are unlocked by completing arenas, completing them quickly, and by doing special objectives in them. There are four classes and you are not tied to a particular one. You can change your class any time you are not in an arena and you will have the same tier of abilities unlocked on each character, so you don't have to level each one or anything like that.

The boss arenas are fun and each one has their own interesting set of mechanics. A few of the arenas and one of the boss fights in particular (the skeleton, for reference) are quite difficult, but that just makes beating them all the more satisfying.

So all in all, a fun game to play co-op. I'm not sure about the single player aspect of the game. Having had a multiplayer play through, I have no interest in going through a second run solo.

I strongly recommend this game if you're looking for an awesome (local) coop game, that you can spends entire nights with 1-3 friends and some beer on. The levels are challenging, but never unfair and completing a challenge is extremely rewarding.

I've played it with 3 different groups of friends so far and always had lots of fun. Even if you know the levels, your friends will still suggest different ways of solving the puzzles sometimes which makes the leves never become boring.

This game is AMAZING.

Play it co-op with 2-4 people and it's endlessly fun. I haven't been as addicted to a non MOBA since Starcraft 2!

When I first got this game it was plagued with all sorts of issues. The main issue that I had was that while playing a game hosted locally it would claim that I lost connection. If you check out the reviews from earlier in the games life there are plenty of other networking issues that arose, along with other bugs. Fortunately the team that developed this game has been on top of it releasing patch after patch. At this point the game is a great hack'n'slash puzzler. Basically Gauntlet with less killing and more complicated puzzle levels. The class and leveling system are a lot of fun and Balfus, your mentor and spirit guide, is a lot of fun. I only play local co-op so I can't speak for the online co-op but I did notice that the game list is usually fairly sparce, but if you have a few friends this is a great game.

Forced is absolutely brutal, requiring constant team communication, clever problem solving and the mastery of combat skills. It can be an incredible amount of fun and is highly recommended for any group of gamer friends. This game pleasantly surprised me: simple in concept, but with an incredible amount of depth to it.I can’t stress enough how much fun Forced is when you’ve got even just one other player. It’s a smartly designed cooperative action game with a great variety in its challenges, and a great combat system that encourages teamwork over all else.Forced is an honest cooperative RPG with some good ideas suitable for 3 or 4 players but a hard nut to crack for lone wolves.Playing solo is oftentimes more frustrating than fun. However if you’re itching for a hardcore co-op action experience, then you’ve struck gold with Forced.

Easily one of the best Co-Op experiences out there; the puzzles can seem easy at times, but at others they can easily stop you dead in your tracks. I play it on occasion with a friend and we always have an enjoyable time. Also for the price it is an easy 10/10, well worth the money and with steam sales it is a no brainer.

Incredibly solid game. Well designed, good level selection, and an impressive balance between puzzles and combat. Co-op is wonderful, and the leveling stays constant between allies and weapon choices, so you never feel like you have a hard upgrade choice thats permanent.Definitely recomend it, but dont play it singleplayer.

Do NOT buy this game if you plan to play single player. It's miserable.

That said, I absolutely recommend this game for co-op with 3 or 4 players. This game is a very tough gauntlet-style game, with puzzley elements frequently thrown in. Yes, you are smacking monsters and trying to stay alive, while doing puzzles at the same time. It's freaking hard.

But, it is very satisfying to complete the levels.

The only downside is that the netcode still isn't rock solid. For whatever reason, I have a 20%ish game freeze rate when trying to start a group game, requiring me to totally shut down the game and restart. Other than that, it seems ok.

I've only really tried this 2 player on a LAN... but definitely worth my money! The puzzles are challenging, the gameplay is a delightful combination of fast & strategic. There are a few bugs I've encountered (e.g., couldn't complete the tutorial, sometimes the other player becomes "stuck" and unable to move), but they really aren't that frequent (1 per hour perhaps).

It's kind of like Portal & Alien Swarm's love child. Good fun!

Great Coop game. If you liked Guantlet Dark Legacy back in the day, then you will definitely like this game. There was a ton of network errors when I first bought the game, but everything is fixed now and works great.

Incredible game. Hits the right balance between "these developers are evil!" and "holy crap I just pulled that off!". The four classes are well varied and the skill trees are very interesting. Toying with characters builds is quite fun. The story is simple but the early twist plus good characters and good voice actors make it engaging. Coop (and local coop!) makes this a great party game too. All that together and the result is a game I haven't been able to put down. I think about it when not playing and push for the "ok just one more unlock" when I am playing.
