Update #12 - Undead!

Welcome to another Delver update! We're back after a hiatus (more on that below) with one of our biggest updates. This time we've added a new dungeon section, the Temple, that expands the game with two new dungeon floors full of undead horrors and nasty traps. If you survive that, you might find even more changes...

Along with that, we've also worked on making Delver even better with improved water effects, a bunch of bug fixes, a new randomized trap system, a totally revamped death screen, and potion grenades. Did we mention potion grenades?

Changes

  • New dungeon area, the Temple!
  • Boss area update
  • Mouse wheel can be used to switch between hotbar items
  • Better win / death screens.
  • Potions can now be thrown when held
  • Added water trim effects
  • Fixed more cases where the player can get stuck while teleporting
  • Juiced up magic particle effects
  • Removed last vestiges of the cursor mode
  • New splash particle effect
  • Spikes are now 100% more metal
  • Crusher traps to turn players into paste
  • Collapsing floors
  • Tweak to improve clipping plane issue with high FOVs
  • Probably other stuff we've forgotten

Announcements!

This update is dedicated to Malcolm Laurence Skelton, the first child of our resident artist Joshua Skelton and his wife Melissa. Look at that little guy!

If you haven't caught it already, Joshua has been streaming while he works on Delver lately - follow him on Twitch to be notified when he streams.

About This Game

Delver is a first person action roguelike dungeon crawl with crunchy pixels.

Take the role of an adventurer that tries their fate in the dark dungeons (and probably dies horribly). Fight monsters, grab loot, hoard potions, and level up!
Quest for the Yithidian orb at the darkest depths of the dungeon and attempt to bring it back to the surface - getting to it may be the easy part.
Levels are randomly generated in each playthrough so you'll never know quite what's around the corner.

Delver is in an unfinished beta state at the moment and has it's share of bugs and rough edges that need filed down, but it's very playable even in this unfinished state. Help us guide the direction of the game with your early access help and feedback. Our future plans are to revamp all of the art and sound, increase the depth of the RPG system, add special events and minibosses to the random dungeon generator, implement full gamepad support, and add a ton of new content. Help make Delver the best game it can be!

Key Features

  • Fast paced action rpg gameplay
  • Permadeath - once you're dead, you're dead
  • Randomized levels - never the same game twice
  • Loot hoarding
  • Chunky pixels!
  • Modding support - the desktop version lets you make and share your own monsters, items, and texture packs
  • Level editor included!

So to everyone wondering, Delver is not dead! The lead artistic developer, Joshua Skelton, recently had a kid and had to put the game on the back burner. He is once again actively developing new content for the community to Delve into!

A solid rogue-like with an appropriate amount of content for a Beta. A solid variety of weaponry and enemies allow for several hours of fun, afterwards it gets rather repetitive. But hopefully more content will be added soon after this long hiatus.
Immediately you're cast in the dungeon and it's up to you to learn, and until you do learn, it's trial and error which will lead to death. Once finished, the game doesn't offer any much more to do.
The combat is fun, though you have to be aware of the attack speed of each weapon, as well as their damage output and the enemy you're up against. All potions are unknown until drunk, once or several times. This adds an additional risk because you might end up commiting suicide.
The artstyle is enjoyable as is the exploration of randomly generated dungeons.

>I'd give it a 6.5/10, it's a solid pickup on sale, fully priced only if they add more
>Pros: random dungeons, combat is okay, risky potions increase difficulty, stats matter, quickly load your saves
>Cons: you can only change options from the Main Menu, you'll find it difficult to get used to how inventory and items work, prone to using items accidentally(ie. pressing the wrong hotbar key will eat the item instantly rather than selecting it)

I once thought the game was forever dead since there were no updates for almost exactly a year.
Turns out one of the devs had a kid.
Ok then.

Anyway, fun game and very interesting.
Could use a lil somethin' extra in some places, but hey: its Early Access, there's still time.

Bat Stir-Fry

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil, divided
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
2 pounds Short-nosed Fruit Bat breasts, skinless and boneless
1 head broccoli, stems removed
1 dozen mushrooms, sliced
3 carrots, peeled and julienned
1/4 pound green beans, diced
1 head bok choy, chopped
2 to 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce

Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a saute pan over medium heat. Add garlic and stir. Place the bat in the pan and brown 4 minutes on each side. Remove from pan, slice into strips, set aside.
Heat remaining tablespoon of oil in a wok over high heat. Add the vegetables and teriyaki sauce. Stir-fry quickly until the vegetables begin to soften. Add the other bat strips, combine well and continue to cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately.

It might not look like it from screenshots, but this humble game oozes polish in almost every respect. The animations, for example, are unbelievably slick, and they get across a real sense of responsiveness and weapon impact. Its the little touches of quality like that which set this game apart from the great steam sea of crap bandwagon rougelikes. And its that sort of thing which brings me back to this game time and time again, despite its simplicity. This game is a gem, an obvious labour of love, and more than your money's worth.

Game seems to be in a forever early access state. Is the game in it's current state fun? yes it's pretty fun but it's buggy and incomplete and those issues are too much for me to reccomend this game.

It lacks the playtime that it needs and becomes repetitive fairly quickly new areas and enemies do help this lessen but not enough.

If I remember right this game was to have multiplayer but it seems that has been completely scrapped witch was one of the biggest reasons i bought the game.

Overall it's fun but unfinished.
