Bugfix 7.1 - Bows and FOV

A small bugfix update just went live, it fixes issues with arrows not always hitting mobs when shot from a bow.

As a fun addition, via popular demand here on the forums, it also adds a new Field of View slider to the Options menu.

Update #7 - Better animations, corpses, and more

The September update of Delver is here, just in the nick of time. This is a fun update for us, since we had the chance to work with the awesome character artist Hunter Russel to redo all of our monster animations and the results shine.

We also updated to the latest version of the libGdx engine, fixed some collision issues that were causing people to get stuck in the mines, and got in some decent performance fixes that should stop the hitching some people have been experiencing. There's also a super fancy new menu background, to replace the boring image that was there before.

  • Mages now have a windup before their magic attacks to give themselves away

Bug Fixes
  • Redid the stepping up physics code, should no longer get stuck in small spaces or step up onto columns
  • Showing a win message instead of 'Dead' after finishing the game on the main menu now
  • Fixed dragging and dropping items from the inventory not throwing them as expected always

Delver is a first person action roguelike dungeon crawl with crunchy pixels.

Take the role of an adventurer that tries their fate in the dark dungeons (and probably dies horribly). Fight monsters, grab loot, hoard potions, and level up!
Quest for the Yithidian orb at the darkest depths of the dungeon and attempt to bring it back to the surface - getting to it may be the easy part.
Levels are randomly generated in each playthrough so you'll never know quite what's around the corner.

Delver is in an unfinished beta state at the moment and has it's share of bugs and rough edges that need filed down, but it's very playable even in this unfinished state. Help us guide the direction of the game with your early access help and feedback. Our future plans are to revamp all of the art and sound, increase the depth of the RPG system, add special events and minibosses to the random dungeon generator, implement full gamepad support, and add a ton of new content. Help make Delver the best game it can be!

What a pleasant surprise this game was. First of all I love the art direction and music (especially near the end!)
Work keeps me busy and I don't have as much time to invest into other games. This game is PERFECT for those who want a casual (yet also challenging!) RPG/Rogue-like/Dungeon crawling experience neatly wrapped up into the charming game that is Delver. Overall it took me a couple hours to complete but with the perma-death system and randomly distributed dungeon layout and loot, it certainly has hours of replayability. If you're on the fence about buying Delver just jump in. You won't be disappointed.

This is a solid randomly-generated dungeon crawl. I think the graphics could use a boost, but the controls are good. The traps are annoying, and I would like to see them rethought and reimplemented. The music and colors are perfect, tehy just need to up the resolution a tad (the gold coins look particularly awful).It is worth 5 bucks.

IM REVIEWING IT AS AN EARLY ACESS GAME ANYTHING I SAY CAN AND MIGHT CHANGE
This in my opinion is not one of those games that you play hours on end. I think of it as a simple "I'm Bored Game" in which there is no real purpose that is drawing you in. You play it becuase it's fun. It does however have a goal. This game is a rouge like rpg in first person. You go down into a randomly genorated dungeon deal, with monsters, level up and to get this mysterious treasure. But this treasure at the end (I wont tell you what it is you gotta find out yourself) has been sought after by others. But those who have entered dont leave! Dun dun dun! This game has mulitple weapons: wands, bows, hammers, maces, swords, shortswords, and daggers. Hammers and bows are 2 handed others are onehanded. anyway it is a good game and I would recomend it. ALSO people that have played minecraft may be familer with Sphax. Well good ol sphax has a patch for this game, it is however the only thing he has made you have to pay for.

This charming little piece of dungeon crawling may have nothing truely unique to offer, but besides that, it's simple,solid and stylish. And it provides that eerie feeling I remember from exploring the caves in the Minecraft.

The combat is simple, yet engaging. There is a variety of melee, ranged and magical weapons available and balancing quick, strong and ranged attacks is the key to survival.

The graphics of this game are really appealing. While pixelated, they perfectly fit together to create a consistent "minecrawl" experience. Special mention goes to the utterly hilarious, 80-90s anime styled facial expressions the human enemies make when hit. Music is also likable and moody.

What I didn’t really enjoy is the character leveling system. While it is traditionally experience based, on every level the player is given 3 choices on what to upgrade. The problem is that there are more than three stats and thus sometimes there is no option to improve the desired characteristic and the progress gets a bit random. Furthermore, there is no description regarding what a particular stat does. While most of them are self-explanatory, a seasoned RPG gamer in me desires at least a basic defining of the difference between the Speed and Agility. Not much of a problem though – characters don’t usually live long enough to regret.

On the other hand, the game goes to the great lengths to make itself as user-friendly as the dungeon crawler can be. Traps are always clearly visible, and one cannot die of hunger, food restores the hit points instead.

The greatest problem with this game, at least for me, is the fact that it gets boring after a few runs. Nonetheless, it is perfect for the short evening sessions. Furthermore, when I decide to play a rogue it means something, since I’m usually too tired of starting over again and again in the real life to follow the same pattern in games. Still, Delver seems to be the right choice to spend a few nights with sword in your main and a glass of whisky in off hand. Yeah, I too used to play an ambidextrous character in the good, old DnD days.

Delver jest uroczym, małym dungeon crawlerem. Nie wprowadza do gatunku nic nowego, ale za to jest prosty, solidny i stylowy. I powoduje to samo osobliwe uczucie co długi spacer po jaskiniach w Minecrafcie.

System walki jest prosty, ale wciągający. Gra daje do użytku spory wybór broni białej, dystansowej oraz zaklęć i znalezienie między nimi balansu jest kluczem do przetrwania.

Grafika, mimo pikseli na pół ekranu, robi świetne wrażenie. Kolory są jaskrawe i dobrane tak, że idealnie pasują do tego „minecrawla”. Gra dostaje ode mnie dodatkowe punkty za miny które robią niektórzy przeciwnicy kiedy oberwą – przypominające anime z lat 80-90, potrafią naprawdę rozbawić. Muzyka też od razu wpada w ucho i świetnie buduje nastrój.

Gra podpada za to sysyemem levelowania postaci. Tradycyjnie, opiera się on na expach zdobywanych na wrogu, a przy każdym levelu dostajemy do wyboru 3 staty które możemy „podbić”. Problem polega na tym że cech opisujących postać jest więcej, więc czasem nie dostajemy opcji ulepszenie tego co akurat by się przydało i sprawia że rozwój postaci przebiega nieco losowo. Dodatkowo, cechy nie są w żaden sposób opisane. Niby nie problem domyślić się od czego jest atak a od czego wytrzymałość, ale zatwardziały RPGowiec we mnie domaga się jednak wytłumaczenia różnicy między szybkością a zręcznością. Inna sprawa że nie jest to jakiś straszny problem – bohater i tak na ogół nie żyje na tyle długo żeby żałować dokonanych wyborów.

Z drugiej strony Delver stara się jak może, by być przyjaznym graczowi. Pułapki zawsze są widoczne z daleka, a jedzenie odnawia HPki – nie można tu umrzeć z głodu.

Największy problem, przynajmniej dla mnie, to fakt że gra nudzi się dość szybko. Na krótkie sesje jest jednak idealna. Co więcej, jeżeli polecam jakiegoś rogulca, musi coś w tym być, na ogół brakuje mi cierpliwości by zaczynać grę od początku po tym jak zginę. Podsumowując: Delver nadaje się idealnie do spędzenia kilku nocy z mieczem w jednej, a szklaneczką whisky w drugiej ręce. A co? Też grałem „oburęcznymi” postaciami w starych, dobrych, DnDkowych czasach.

Really awesome rogue RPG. Pretty much satisfactory for the price, but it didn't blow my mind and leave me amazed.

Still sucked hours of addicting gameplay from me, though. Good buy.

This game is a very uniqe dungeon crawler honestly don't buy this game unless you want to try something new that only is if you haven't or really don't like dungeon crawlers but what the heck i would spend my money anyday if they made another one of these so please try it out its not that bad. Now, I shall get all of the potential negatives out of the way first. Yes, the game is light on content. With only a few enemy types and one dungeon, skilled players may find themselves quickly consuming all the game has to offer. That, and some occasional bugs that very rarely appear but can be annoying sometimes.

With that all said, this game is brilliant value for money. £5.59 for a game as addictive as this is a steal, and in my opinion the dev could get away with charging a little more. The pixel art aesthetic is pulled off expertly, as so many other indie dungeon crawlers are from a top down perspective or 2D, it's refreshing to play a FPDC (first person dungeon crawler). The potion system in the game gives a tense atmosphere when you are at low health, having you gamble with fate as you could consume a health potion, or get a poison debuff alongside many other potion effects. Combat is very simple, but this works in the games favour as it makes all combat encounters very quick, which is essential as it makes runs shorter going hand in hand with the permadeath mechanic.

All in all, for the stage it's at now and the price tag it has, this is a great game, and with more content on the way, I highly recommend you buy it now.

Delver is a quick session-friendly action-dungeon-crawler, with inspired and stylish visuals of the schools of old. It's fast paced, challenging and very varied due to its randomized floor layouts. If you ever get tired of the base game, there's level editing tools and the ability to swap out texture packs. A nice, fun, go-to game for when nothing in your library seems all that exciting.

One of the few Early Access titles I can heartily recommend. The game was already a lot of fun when I bought it quite some time ago and it received numerous updates since then. The game feels complete already and the developer listens to what the players would like to see in the game, as he just recently added a FOV-slider to the game which reaches all the way to 110.

If you'd like to play a first-person rogue-like game with a charming graphics style and good replay value, give this one a shot even if it is an Early Access title.

[My thought delver is a 10/10 well made dungeon crawl game with pixel style to it] gold saves when you die thier is a shop when you start but you need to get gold first skill in a jar is 250gold gives you 1 skill point and To the maker of delver i threw a book at a wall and it glitched and made rapid noise just letting you knowand i know im not early access member but can you listen to my idea if you can when you update the game add a endless mode and add a ranking system like a leaderbored to see how far down people gotten if thats not already on your mind if you can on endless add a co-op so you can play with your best buddy thats all i got to say thank you for reading my review whoever was reading this

Seriously a fantastic game. The best thing about this game to me is that the community is very active and the developers are always listening. Things are taken into serious consideration and at times, you get a really awesome little surprise in your updates! I have a few Early games on Steam and to be honest, a lot of the time they are deeply saddening or upsetting because the devs just sort of vanish so many times. If it isn't that then they clearly aren't bothering to actually listen to suggestions and bug problems that are found.
