“There’s nothing to rank alongside it. Influences and borrowings be damned – it stands alone and is as brilliantly designed, challenging and cunning a package of ideas and aesthetic choices as anything I’ve seen this year.”
Wot I Think – Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of its pixels: no individual element of Dungeon of the Endless is especially complicated, but together they form a fiendish and unforgiving challenge. If you’re willing to take that on then it makes it more than worthwhile, borrowing from several genres to create something that feels unique - as well as bursting with personality and smart choices.”
8.1/10 – IGN

“From its setting to its design and aesthetic, Dungeon of the Endless feels like a game built for me. It’s tough and unforgiving, but it’s also fair. Despite all the deaths I spent climbing through the dungeon’s floors, I slowly mastered the game. That’s a testament to the roguelike genre, and it’s why I like tangling with it so much.”
4.5/5 – Game Revolution

About This Game

A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.

In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.

Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

Gather A Team.

  • Form a team of heroes, each with their own strengths (and psychoses)
  • Equip them, deploy them, and earn powerful abilities
  • Manage the balance between ex-prison inmates and guards
  • Experience four player coop and watch your back

Build Your Defenses.

  • Use the Dust you gather to power the rooms
  • Use scarce resources to help your team survive
  • Build minor and major modules to hold off waves of monsters
  • Decode Endless ruins to discover life-saving technologies

Open the Door.

  • Each door is a danger; prepare yourself and your team for anything
  • Explore and discover an infinity of levels and layouts
  • Carry your crystal through waves of monsters to the exit of each level
  • Fight your way to the surface to discover the truth about Auriga

Dungeon of the Endless is a fun, hero based tower defense game. Each character has a distinctive look and entertaining backstory, the pixel art is great, the soundtrack is memorable, and the in-game lore is intriguing. Very fun to play with friends, as it removes the need to pause the game and order all the characters around. The only downside to multiplayer is that it removes character dialogue, which is often humorous and/or reveals more about the situation. If they were able to fix that, this would probably be one of my favorite games on Steam.

If you're looking for a good tower defense game, this is a great choice. With procedural generation and a big cast of characters, it takes a while for it to become boring. Definitely a go to game for my group of friends.

This is a great game. A bit of a time waster, but very fun. Its randomized, so you never play the same dungeon. One fact, Each toon is a different kind of play. Nice additional.

If you like games like FTL, tower defense, turn based strategy, spiced with some RPG elements, then fasten your seatbelt for this one. Its neatly done hybrid, that feels genuine.

I have read comments about this game, and I was afraid that rng factor is too big, out of proportion. Some people claimed that, yes. But in my opinion that rng factor serves as a spice on top of well balanced game.

There were complaints about bad tutorials. I have found discovering of ground rules fun. There were some things that I think I should have found out earlier:
- you lose dust only if creatures attack crystal
- if you have your hero in unpowered room there wont be monsters spawned
- artifacts cannot be repaired - you can only repair things that you build
- some monsters can attack artifacts (you can lose resources that you have put in research), heroes and merchants
- new turn is considered when you open closed door, even if you have discovered all of the rooms
- if you start researching something and you exit the floor next turn, that thing is considered researched
- at higher levels there are some special monsters that will surprise you

I hope it helps.

Dungeon of the Endless is certainly a unique experience. Packing a colorful cast of characters, beautiful art-style, and gameplay I could only describe as completely incomparable. Dungeon of the Endless is not a tough game to recommend by any stretch of the imagination.

Before buying this game, keep in mind that, unlike what you might think from the description, this is not a very complex rogue-like. While there are elements of tower defense, resource management, and levelled characters, there is little learning curve, meaningful decisions, or stat mongering in the game.

In short, it's much closer to a mobile game for PC than it is to NetHack. Which is absolutely fine, just something to keep in mind before purchasing.

POSITIVES:
- Immediately accessible from the first level
- Meaningful replayability via different starting conditions and Endless Mode
- Enjoyable world characterization
- Crisp assembly
- Fun

SOMEWHAT NEGATIVES:
- Fairly easy. I beat the hardest starting difficulty in three tries, and each scenario in one or two
- RPG elements are a little dull
- Individual levels often end anti-climatically
- Exploration lacks variety
- No voice acting

BOTTOME LINE:
This is a great little game that's perfect for killing idle hours. If the description intrigues you, it delivers. (But just don't expect a game of great depth.)

A sequal would be fantastic.
---

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE PLAYING:
This game comes with a free DLC that adds four Team Fortress characters to the game. This is pretty fun when you're used to the game, but it ruins the atmosphere to run across a Heavy or Pyro during your first couple playthroughs. I'd reccommend unchecking the DLC box on the game's page in your library before launching, and turning it on after a couple hours to see if you like it.

I've only played a few hours but I think this game is truly incredible. The best way to play this game though is with friends or even strangers. I joined these two guys who helped me learn the game and we got really far.

One part rouge like, one part RPG, one part resource management, and one part tower defense. This combination gives a challenging, unique, strategic game of survival. This game is worth getting to play alone but I think it’s even more fun with a friend.

Deserves your attention, if only for how different it is. That it's fun is almost besides the point... but it's fun, too, which is good.

At 12:30 p.m. we discover this game and start downloading it, and at 12:40 p.m. download finishes and my friend and I have our lifes changed... First thing we did was spent over a minute on trying to walk and interact with things. we fingure out we open doors we place down modules we kill monsters we find the exit. I run to grab the shinny yellow power thing, I start running, I make it to the exit thinking my friend would just teleport along... he doesn't... I am alone... I get to next floor... I open two doors and die... 1:03 p.m. we start again... going through each floor, making it to the end... at that moment it was 6:47 p.m.

10 out of 10 would spend my day freaking out again

I want to say two things about this game:

1. It's genuine. Great gameplay ideas mixed with its simple story and a distinctive visual style make it one of a kind. I didn't realize it's actually tower defense until someone reminded me.

2. It's perfect. Seriously, I can't think of any flaw. Every element of the game makes it more addictive.

To me it's a discovery of a year :)
