O tej grze

NEO Scavenger is a game where you must survive in the wasteland long enough to figure out who you are. Each turn, you must decide where to go, how to scavenge for supplies, and how to deal with anything and anyone you encounter. And with each passing minute, the pit in your stomach grows, your dehydration worsens, your muscles tire, and your body temperature drops in the cold autumn air. Choose your starting abilities carefully, because they and your wit are the only tools you have in the apocalypse!

Development Snapshot Infographic

Current Features

  • Unique Setting - Near-future, post-apocalyptic Michigan with local cryptids and folklore. And something else beneath the surface...
  • Turn-Based Play - Take your time with each turn, and play at your own pace. Save and quit when you want, and resume later.
  • Permadeath - If you die, that's it. NEO Scavenger is balanced around a single difficulty level: permadeath. Your save will be deleted if you die. So choose every action carefully!
  • No Grinding - There is no XP in NEO Scavenger. No levelling-up. Instead, progress comes from learning how to play the game better, and using your strengths to your advantage.
  • Semi-Random - Much of the map is randomized each game, including the location of ruins, creatures, weather, and certain quest branches.
  • Sandbox or Story - Search for clues to your identity, what happened, and who's hunting you. Or simply test your mettle against man and nature alike. Play how you want!
  • Skills and Flaws - Choose skills and flaws each time you play. Different combos unlock different abilities and quest branches.
  • Crafting - Extensive crafting system which allows for substitutions of similar items. Make a rifle scope from half a pair of binoculars, or a noise trap from a pill bottle and pebbles.
  • Desperate Combat - Detailed combat with moves like "Tackle," "Lure," "Kick While Down," "Demand Surrender," and "Threaten."
  • Realistic Wounds - Creatures have complex wound simulation, with multiple wound locations, infection, bleeding, and pain management.
  • Realistic Metabolism - Hypothermia, fatigue, thirst, hunger, disease, intoxication, shelter...everything is tracked.
  • Realistic Inventory - Complex inventory system with slots for holding, wearing, containers, and more. Fit items in grid spaces, and manage encumbrance.
  • Hex-Based World Map - Navigate ruins, hills, forests, and plains in a hex-based map. Line-of-sight, elevation, and daylight matters.
  • Tracking - Creatures leave their tracks and spoor on the map, which can be followed by others. Players can also hide their tracks.
  • Hiding - Players can use hiding to avoid being seen while traveling the map, as well as during story encounters.
  • Hunting - Trap small game for food and fur, or track and kill larger prey on the map for butchering.
  • Hacking - Use hacking skills to unlock scavenged laptops, cellphones, smartphones, and tablets. Mine them for paydata, or snoop through personal files.
  • Foraging - Search for edible plants and water, and use special skills to identify what's safe to eat.
  • Haunting Soundtrack - Music composed by Josh Culler, specifically for NEO Scavenger, plays periodically, lending an atmosphere of loneliness and desperation.
  • Creature AI - Wandering creatures go about their own business, hunting, scavenging, and hoarding. Morale affects their choices, and some will gang-up and cause trouble.
  • Dynamic Weather - Temperature, rainfall, and night/day are based on real-world data for autumn in the area. If you live long enough, you may see snow fall.
  • Detroit - Take refuge from the wasteland in one of mankind's last bastions of safety. Buy supplies, get medical care, and seek clues in a cyberpunk-styled city.

If you really wanna know how this game is like, read all of this.

You have gotten me addicted.
This game is amazing, even though there is no cinematics... I feel like Im actually in the game. Reading and
rereading all the text is so immersive.
I remember finally setting up a campsite, a place I can stay warm.
It was a good few nights, resting and building the courage to go out there and scavenge again.
Then I heard some footsteps in the trees around my camp.
I decided to hide and assume it was just a small wilderness creature.
Then a bloke walks up to my campfire, looking through my things.
I knew he wasnt friendly due to the spear he held with such a firm grip.
So I struck from the shadows.
Laceration after laceration and stab after stab.
I finally ended his life...found his wallet.
Bog Muthman... or something like that. Can't remember, I found a couple of dollars.
Decided to wear some of his clothing, who'da thunk he'd be my size.
I bet we would have been great pals if all this apocolypse chaos never happened.
Found his facny backpack, with a composite bow packed inside. I told my self I wont waste anything and would use this bow to my advantage... for Bog's sake.
That night... I heard a howl.
I woke up the next morning just to see out near the treeline there was a large furry figure on two legs.
I bolted, my natural human instinct kicked in and I could feel the goosebumps rise.
I ran in the opposite direction, cover my tracks just to make sure this beast wouldnt find me.
I was out in the fields... found some farmhouses with bottles of water and ketchup.
I was so very hungry.
I thought that if I just take a trek for a day and come back, maybe I could have my campsite to myself again.
Decided to sleep in the grass...
It was the most terryfying night of sleep ever.
Nightmares of the beast came to me.
I luckily woke with a calm about me, ready to head back to my original camp.
Was a days travel and the sun was setting as I was approaching the forest I call home.
I knew it would be a good half hour until I made it there... but the sun would be gone by then.
Just one hex away...
I could make it...
End turn....
Then I gasped.
Out of nowhere the beast was barking in the distance.
All I could hear was the thumping of his four legs and the profuse growling.
I started sprinting for my life.
But it wouldnt help, I could hear creature was catching up too fast.
I was panicking, it was pitchblack.
I couldnt see and the adrenaline was the only thing I could count on to get me out alive.
I got tackled.
The creature standing over me, ready to pounce and rip my face off.
I decided in spite of the moment of fear I was having... to trip the beast.
It fell and I was able to get back up.
I reached for my cleaver and prepared to swing.
I noticed the creature already had some large cuts and was bleeding.
I knew that couldnt stop me, I had to end its life for my own saftey.
I swung, and one slash after another I was painfully killing this beast.
Sqealing and whimpering, unable to move... it stopped moving.
I thought it was dead... My head was turning and the headache was unbareable.
I sat down next to the dog like creature's warm body.
Calming down.... then Its head tilted up and bit me on my leg.
I kicked it with my other.
I was in extreme pain and was bleeding.
I started crawling...
I didnt want to look back, just knew I had to keep crawling.
Eventually I fell unconcious on a small hillside about fifty meters away from the black furry body.
I woke feeling very tired and weak. I couldn't stand up and It hurt to move my leg.
I looked back at the creature, I was sure it was dead. Hadn't moved since after it bit me... there was a pool of
blood around it and a black bird pecking at its flesh.
I knew I had to crawl my way back to my camp, if I could even tell where that was.
Being low on the ground hindered my sense of direction. Who knows how far I could have ran that night in the
darkness.
It felt like my nightmares.
I thought I saw something.
Maybe someone.
A person!
Yes!
Maybe they could be freindly.
Maybe they could be harmful.
Either way I had to try for help.
My chances weren't looking so slim.
I called out "HEEEELLLP"
Followed by a few coughs, I think my rib cage was broken.
The man turned toward me, not that far from me. I only slightly saw his facial expression.
He looked crazed.
His eyes centered on me and he started sprinting. It looked demonic, he was bald.
I had a bad feeling.
It seemed that everything just wants to kill me.
I had to stand up.
I screamed.
But I did it.
He just kept sprinting.
Then something happened, which I have to admit cheered me up.
He tripped, and not too far away from me.
I slowly limped towards him.
He looked up at me and with the small amount of energy I had left, I slashed him.
He screamed in pain.
He backed up, shirt in blood.
I asked why he looked like he wanted to rip my heart out...
He didnt reply and while on his back laying on the floor in front of me, he kicked my damaged leg.
I riled in pain and fell to the floor.
He stood up and in a snap like that, now I was at his mercy.
He didnt even bother to use my dropped cleaver.
He just hit me...
One fist, the another... followed by a kick.
It was torture.
Eventually I blacked out...
I died to a beating by a bald insane man.

This great detail is what I imagined was happening in my mind as I was reading the actions both I and the enemies in game were doing.
Its like reading a book where you honestly don't know what could happen.

10/10 would play again.

How I LOVE this game!
It has the extensiveness of a great exploration and scavenging game, but it actually has a -goal-, including stories, quests and npc's but without revealing everything in the first 5 minutes of playing. In fact, after almost 18 hours of playing I get the feeling I'm only scratching the surface of finding out what's really going on - who I am and what I am supposed to be doing. The guidance you get is intuitive but directions are given sparingly. There are loads of stats kept, you get an idea of that when you die - everything you achieved is being summed up, giving you hints of events that have been set in motion.
Gonna start another round right NOW

NEO Scavenger has that "special game" feeling. By that I mean, a game where the possibilities seem limitless, and you're carried away into a new world on adventure. The last game to do this for me was Crusader Kings 2.

It is also an example of classic "simple to learn, hard to master" design. Most of the systems (combat, crafting, movement, line of sight etc.) are very straightforward, and easy to grasp. But put them all together, and almost everything you do is a meaningful choice that will continue to affect you throughout the game.

Also, my favourite contemporary novel is The Road, by Cormac Mccarthy, and this is as close as you are going to get to experiencing that chill when someone asks: "What are you eating?"

Woke up to two bandits attacking me, one armed with a revolver, the other armed with a rifle. I jumped up, and ran towards the leader, he shot at me, missing. I bashed his skull in with a crowbar. I charged his partner, he also shot and missed. I pummelled him to the ground and then kicked him while he was down. He tried to flee, I beat him until his lungs filled with blood..And then I stole their boots. 10/10 best ♥♥♥♥ing game i've ever played

Most 'survival' games I feel like I just need to figure out the trick to win the game. Not with NNEO Scanvenger. It feel's so realistically frustrating that I keep coming back for more.

Highly recommended for anyone looking to kill a few hours after work, then not sleeping until 3am trying to survive one more time!

Do you enjoy semi-text-based apocalyptic-something-I-haven't-done-the-story-yet survival games with great mechanics, enjoyable crafting, and all the hoarding you can't do in reality?
This game is a great source of entertainment for me. So great, in fact, that I try to play it as little as I can lest I get sucked into playing for hours on end.
I can't wait to play the finished product. It's already magnificent.

After playing the demo version I had to buy the full game. It has a great climate and it's addictive. I honestly thought that there won't be a second game as good as fallout, but I was wrong.

Gotta go make a new character and play some more. Last one I have made managed to fight off most of the threats, like people or wild beats. I even had some clothes to keep me warm, managed to walk all the way east and finish one quest. If only not the starving to death incident... I think I'll take botany now.

I received a key through the official site over a year ago (hence the low Steam "play time") and am really enjoying my experience. I'm still a bit fuzzy on the crafting (I still haven't figured out how to make a campfire, LOL), but it's fun going around and beating up bandits with crowbars and the like to steal their stuff. I'm a big fan of the survival genre in general, though I don't often see a turn-based survival game done this well. It also has a choose your own adventure vibe at times with your traits and perks modding the available outcomes. Well worth the ten bucks, in my opinion.

It is a bad sign when the demo is more fun than the main game.

NEO Scavenger has, as everyone has said, a TON of potential. There is just so much they could do here. Combat feels granular and staisfying, while at the same time being crazy-lethal if you're not careful. The loot you find feels like you're struggling to survive, and the crafting system is elegant. Character creation is simple, but offers meaningful choices. It's got a LOT of good stuff in it.

But the main game also wants to have a story. And that main quest line feels kinda ♥♥♥♥ty when it's next to what would make a fantastic open-world survival game. Since death is frequent, and often from kinda unfair places, having to redo the same quests over and over is unsatisfying, to say the least. And I'm not a hundred percent sure if the game has magic in it or not, because it sure seems like it sometimes, and that clashes with the flavor of a sci-fi wrecked earth.

Oh, the deaths. Man. I have died a dozen times at least from starting a game, and freezing to death before I can find shoes. I have died because I can't find clean water, or anything to boil water in to sterilize it. I have died from a single lucky gunshot. I like how lethal the game can be, but I do not enjoy at all how arbitrary it feels at times.

Also, the demo thing. The demo shows off a scavenging system where each city tile has multiple things to search. Do you check the storage shed, which may have nothing but is pretty safe, or do you go for the high rise, where you might get jumped, but could have a lot more left over? The main game has one thing to search per tile. Choice : eliminated. Just right out the window. I cannot, in good faith, recommend a game where the main game takes AWAY choices.

This game is the worst form of survival games. It is a random number generator linked to some stats if you don't find the needed items randomly by scavenging your choices do not matter at all and you die. Its a shame because the mystery of who you are has promise and the flavor text is very well written (the world seems interesting) but the fact that all of your choices are pointless negates any intrigue. A game which repeatedly places you in an unwinable scenario until you luck out is more tedium than anything else.

This game is really quite brilliant.

Just remember that in order to survive you NEED to learn how to use the crafting system....
Also botany and trapping are essential survival skills.

remember:
trapping skill + handful of twigs&bark + 2 sticks = small fire
Botany skill + handful of twigs&bark + water + pot + fire = tannin tea (an immune system booster)
