About This Game

Risk of Rain is an action platformer with roguelike elements. With permanent death as a primary feature, players will have to play their best to get as far as possible. Fight on a mysterious planet with randomly spawning enemies and bosses, either alone or with 3 friends in online co-op. With over 100 items at your disposal, you will find the tools you need to find the teleporter back home. Discover a myriad of randomly chosen stages, from the desolate forest to the frozen tundra.

The three main goals for our game are simple:

1. Design a game that is randomly generated every play-through, to keep replayability high and fresh.

2. Time = difficulty. The higher the in-game time gets, the harder the difficulty gets. Keeping a sense of urgency keeps the game exciting!

3. Be enjoyable, regardless of whether you win or lose. No more fussing with complex and non-intuitive gameplay patterns. Players should not blame the game for their loss!

''..joy comes from amassing items, gaining experience and watching your character evolve into a godly killing machine.'' - Joystiq

''This game is immaculate. The enemy design, the sound effects, the powers, the fights, all of it feels wonderful.'' - Eurogamer

"..a ridiculously compelling procedurally generated side-scrolling platform survivor-me-do, with multiple characters to play as, single and co-op play, and some of the hardest-hitting deaths I've experienced in such games" - RockPaperShotgun

This is a great game very hard but very fun loadded with lots of interesting items i got it a long time ago i just started playing it some time ago and im hooked but the only problem is that i unlocked a fair amount of items and unlocked a decen amount of characters and now i tried playing it today and guess what i see
No characters unlocked
no items unlocked
and i start from zero nothing at all unlocked so for that "little" problem i will give the game a negative review

Do I recommend this game?
Heck yea I do!

When I first got this game, I didn't think much of it. But as I got more into it, it just pulled me in.
Perma-death is your main enemy in this game as you try to go as far as you can, killing monsters along the way and collecting items.

Single player is okay, but it gets kinda boring. Luckily there is Co-Op mode, just take a few of your friends and play!
Most of my playtime is with friends, always fun and frustration guaranteed.

It has big replayability and with each death you can get further and further into progressing.

This game is painful right from the start, enemies spawn in a tiny trickle meaning you will find more containers than you can afford to open. When you can open them, you get given random power-ups chosen from ranks of rarity. There is a relic item that allows you to choose which item you get, but you still have to rely on rarity and being fast enough to choose before you get killed.

After the first few minutes in the round, you should be getting a regular stream of enemies now, which you need to loot to open as many chests as you can. As time moves on, enemies increase in spawn rate and difficulty, elite mobs become more frequent.

So you've succeeded in completing your first zone. You've got yourself some nice items, even a couple green ones. Then you hear the bell. Enemies spawn in larger waves, yellow d0uchb#gs are teleporting to you, red guys are setting the ground on fire and those orange b#st#rds are firing half a dozen homing missiles at you. You're shooting like a madman, but it's doing barely anything against the tide of elite mobs. Then you hear the roar of a Magma Worm. You look but you can't see the indicating arrow in the sea of hostiles. Your health dropping like hail, you see the worm... a second too late as it fires up out of the ground, instantly wiping out the rest of your life. You're left a broken mess among the horde of creatures, the game taunting you for being such a wimp. And all that's left, is to start all over again.

What can I say about Risk of Rain? Will you die? Yes. Often? Yes. This is one of those Dark Souls type of games where only the stubburn will keep trying and trying and dying until they finally succeed and graduate to the next level, where they are immediately crushed again.

If you do manage to survive long enough and are lucky enough to get a number of good drops, you begin to feel the confidence of being a demi-god. At the late game when you have a couple hundred items, you feel like you're invincible.

Risk of Rain is very good at seperating out the masochists and the clinically insane, and putting them through high intensity combat requiring strategy, fast reflexes and an iron will.

WARNING: This game will likely make you want to throw your monitor out the nearest window.

TL;DR: This game is like putting your hand in a mousetrap and trying to dodge the snap. You will fail many times, probably breaking a few fingers, but when you manage to do it, you'll be proud.

The gameplay is fun however it is coded in such a way that the game can run out of memory when you get closer to the end causing the game the crash and your progress to get lost. This game is frustrading for the wrong reasons. Stay away and find a game that doesn't have this problem like The Binding of Isaac. Same kind of fun, random everything and less frustration. Too bad, this game could have been great.

You want a hard as balls platformer with genuinely fun gameplay, as well as Binding of Issac style pickups and unlockables? Buy this game.

It has thoroughly beaten me up and taken my lunch money on more than one occasion. It will punish you, and you will enjoy it. Because you will restart, determined to do better than the previous attempt. It is extremely addicting, and as such, is fun as hell.
Every class has a unique style to them. Each has a TOTALLY different method of traversing maps, taking advantage of terrain features, and destroying enemies in your path. I love it. A LOT of unrecognized love was clearly put into this game, and a lot of love has already been recognized.

Get bored of the game for a bit? Burn out? Read the enemy and item descriptions as you unlock them.

Graphics: 2D. 9/10 for the little details, love'm.

Sound: 8/10. Some sounds are piddly, most are pretty great.

Music: 10/10. The music in this game will pull you INTO this game. It's repetitive game music, but it still has made some games intense as all hell.

Story: Uh... there is a story... right. 2/10, I forgot about it, but it is relatively unimportant to the gameplay to be honest, which is never something I thought I'd say.

Gameplay: 10/10. Your mistakes are your fault. If you die, it is because you have not yet reached the appropriate level of 'git gud'. Your mistimed jumps, misfired shots, and hestitation can and frequently DO get you killed. This is quite a skillful game, and is a lot of effort to actually stay alive.

Learn the characters, find out which one you like, then forget about it because you need to use all the characters to unlock all the things. I fell in love with this game very quickly, and it is a great way to spend either five minutes, or an hour, depending on how lucky you are that time.

Pro Tip: The Engineer is the best class. ;)

There are few games I like enough to want to keep playing long after I've beaten it. This is one of them.

I've been having a blast playing it on monsoon with three friends over and over. It gets especially fun once you've unlocked the more interesting classes.

Mailman Simulator 2056

(If you hate the game 'cause it mobs you with enemies, try getting through the levels as fast as possible - don't worry about finding all the chests)
