About This Game

Risk of Rain is an action platformer with roguelike elements. With permanent death as a primary feature, players will have to play their best to get as far as possible. Fight on a mysterious planet with randomly spawning enemies and bosses, either alone or with 3 friends in online co-op. With over 100 items at your disposal, you will find the tools you need to find the teleporter back home. Discover a myriad of randomly chosen stages, from the desolate forest to the frozen tundra.

The three main goals for our game are simple:

1. Design a game that is randomly generated every play-through, to keep replayability high and fresh.

2. Time = difficulty. The higher the in-game time gets, the harder the difficulty gets. Keeping a sense of urgency keeps the game exciting!

3. Be enjoyable, regardless of whether you win or lose. No more fussing with complex and non-intuitive gameplay patterns. Players should not blame the game for their loss!

''..joy comes from amassing items, gaining experience and watching your character evolve into a godly killing machine.'' - Joystiq

''This game is immaculate. The enemy design, the sound effects, the powers, the fights, all of it feels wonderful.'' - Eurogamer

"..a ridiculously compelling procedurally generated side-scrolling platform survivor-me-do, with multiple characters to play as, single and co-op play, and some of the hardest-hitting deaths I've experienced in such games" - RockPaperShotgun

This game is very fun, in a nutshell it's a 2d rogue-like monster hunter. Which is awesome!!!!! I haven't run into any major problems with it other than it not running in fullscreen for me. 8/10

Go from 0 to God in less than two hours. If you don't get killed by three bosses spawning at once first. This game had been sitting in my library for a little bit, I remember trying it when I first bought it and got frustrated pretty easily, but since giving it time it's probably one of my favorite indie titles. If you stick with it, literally learn to play, that difficulty bar won't mean a damn thing.

Risk of Rain, also known as risk of pain to many players including me.
It seems simple at first, most people would just farm out the level as long as they can.
Then they see it,a timer that increases difficulty which messes up the player's entire game once they find out the next place is riddled with stronger enemies, and his cash got converted to experience.
Then the player dies, and tries again, rinses and repeats and then wins, but it's still far from over.[/b]

This game has proggression even if it's a rogue-like,since you unlock items that can drop, and new characters that are all unique, skill wise and style wise.

There's also artifacts to collect, they change certain game modifiers to help or make the player wish he restarted the run sooner.

Though while some characters aren't exactly good and others are overpowered as hell, you can win with any of them.

The design of the game is pixelated, ofcourse, but it looks lovely when the screen is full of enemies and pleaseant scenarios.

All in all, even with the few flaws it has it still manages to get me hooked even today.
If I was to rate it,i'd go with 8.8/10,since it does have a few inconveniences.

Would definitely recommend it to people looking for a fun rogue-like game that challenges you to be the perfect OP killing machine! I like the art style of this game, the music and sound effects just fits this game perfectly and I feel like that there's still so much I have to do in this game!

After getting 100% achievement completion, I still feel like I suck at this game.

This game is hard for all the right reasons; you may feel limited at first (given how everything in this game is in-game achievement locked), but the game starts you out with the easiest-to-use character and a basic set of simple items that help ease you into how things work.

The game says that it won't save your scores on the easy difficulty, but what it doesn't tell you is that you can still unlock things on the easier difficulty. Use this to your advantage and play on easy until you think you've gotten a feel for how the game handles (as well as unlocking a few things in the process), then put the game back on its regular difficulty setting and proceed to get obliterated in a brutal fashion.

For extremely skilled players (or masochists), there's even a hard difficulty setting, as well as collectible 'artifacts' that can be toggled to make the game even harder (or easier in a few cases).

This game is completely playable without a guide. However, should one feel inclined to seek advice (which is very likely), there are many helpful guides written by other players that go in detail about combat strategies, how to unlock things, and even just general advice for beginners and veteran players alike.

In conclusion, Risk of Rain is a 2D platformer where you're constantly fighting for your life while scavenging the land for items that passively improve your combat abilities in every way, ultimately reaching the end where the final boss is the only thing standing in your way between you and freedom. Good luck.

One of the best Indie Games i ever played. Its a rogue-like game with a simple and short Story. You have a Cargo Ship which get shot, crashing on a mysterious Planet with one Survivor, you. At the beginning i didnt understand what to do,i was running and running, killing monsters till i got it.You start with one Character and find various Items with different effects.Theres alot of Items and Characters you have to unlock by doing tasks (killing enemies, collecting specific things or by simply finding them). The Levels are changing thanks to the rogue-like elements and so is the Experience. The longer you play a map,the more items you collect and the longer is the Run.Sometimes a run can go up to 2 hours or longer,it depends on you.You can set the difficulty by adding Relics which affects you,the maps and the enemy.I can recommend this game for any casual player or bored one.I bought this Game due a Sale,i dont regret it.

Risk of Rain is a fun rogue-like game where you gain experience and gold from killing the endless waves of monsters on every level until the boss is found and destroyed. You will find items that have unique powers which will make you more powerful with each one you find, however time is against you; as time goes on so does the difficulty of the monsters. That is the risk on every level while trying to explore every corner to make sure you get all the items, however the monster density increases and so does their strength. There are a ton of items to find and numerous of different characters you can unlock which each having their own playstyle and ability. The game also has multiplayer (use Hamachi) which adds to the chaotic fun. The graphics and the music in this game are really good as well; if you want to try a rogue-like game this is one of the better ones to start off with.

Risk of Rain is, in my opinion, one of the best rogue-likes around. This game is a must-have for anyone who enjoys multiplayer co-op. It's also very fun in single player. It's difficult at first, but it's got just the right amount of challenge.

Wonderful rogue-like.
Great 12 characters. 12 different playstyles.
Ranging from melee combat to super ranged (yes, I'm looking at you Engineer).
Plenty of items to unlock and collect. Each item makes a difference and all are useful.
The game is hard. At least at the start. You need to unlock items (doing various achievements), so they will drop in your next playthroughs.
You just can't be a winner playing the game for the first time, sorry.
Worth every penny.

A great combination of Roguelike gameplay, fun 'retro' graphics, and an amazing soundtrack! Easily worth full price, but if it's on sale you're stupid not to buy it!

Risk of Rain is a game you can come home and play after work every day and never get sick of it, kind of like Frostbite on the Atari vcs when I was in school.
There's a lot to collect, a bunch of characters to unlock. It's difficult.
Because of the timed nature of the game it's easy to manage your time with it too.
Great with a keyboard or a controller. Just turn off the click requirement on your left touch pad and turn up the haptics, better than any d-pad (unless you have a Saturn).
The music is just awesome.
The only game I've played more than this on steam is Skyrim. And if you know me (and nobody does because my friends aren't computer game nerds) that's saying a lot.

I definitely recommend this game.
