What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are using Early Access to enable you to keep us alive long enough to finish this game. By buying the game while it's not finished we can keep working until it is.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We can't say how much longer it will take till we are at our full version, by a guess would be another 6 months or so”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Full version is planned to feature:
  • Comprehensive Training/Tutorial
  • Ranks and Competitions
  • Level ups / XP
  • Lots of achievements
  • Steam workshop for custom maps and armors/clothes
  • Party Matchmaking
  • Clans/Guilds
  • Team objectives game mode(s)
  • Singleplayer/Co-op survival game
  • More of the other stuff (spells, swords, armor, etc.)
  • Much more balance and way less bugs

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“I'm not going to pretend this game is finished, as you can see from the list of features we are still working on it's going to be a fair amount of time before its called "done".

That said, the game is playable and enjoyable, the fundamentals of combat (albeit sometimes buggy) can currently be experienced by anyone in all it's glory.
If you are someone who needs more than just combat to continue enjoying the game, you may get tired of this fairly quickly”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After Early Access this game will go up in price, hence why you would want to invest in it now while it's still a work in progress

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We listen very closely to everything our players relay to us. I'm sure many of our community members can already tell you how a feature or fix they have suggested has since been added to the game.

If you join the community you can be assured you will have an impact. We are not your programming slaves here to make any or every idea but we do consider all the ideas we read”

About This Game

Kingdoms Rise is about palpable multiplayer fantasy battle. Take your choice of weapons and abilities onto a battlefield where skill alone will decide your fate.

With a multitude of armors, swords, spells, ranged weapons and more you can customize a warrior and a fighting style unique to you.

Kingdoms Rise makes fantasy combat something more than grind a earn level-ups. It's not a means to an end but and end in itself.
The feeling of steel against steel is made solid. Bringing all tension and thrill as knights wield sword and fire against each other.

Read your opponent and try to psych them out in tactical blade dueling.
Wield spells such as fireballs, lightening, hook-shots, invisibility and blinks that will work tightly in tandem with your strengths in swordsmanship.
This game has been build from the beginning to feel palpable, as though you control every muscle and plant every step. You wont watch a knight perform fancy pants maneuvers from simple button presses, instead you step into the very boots of your character and fight with your own finesse.

With deep character customization every fight is unique and every opponent will have a new trick up their sleeve.
Experiment with different combinations and strategies to create a knight with a fighting style unique to you alone.

Players can form parties with friends and fight in competitive modes.
In team games the only limit is your imagination. Your teammates can build themselves into roles such as tanks, damage dealers, supports or any new role you see fit. Think up new strategies, combine spells in interesting ways and achieve victory!

Key Features
  • 360° Directional Melee Sword Fighting System
  • Deep Character Customization
  • Wide Range of Magic spells and abilities to use and combine
  • Create a Party with Friends and fight as a Team
  • Full Controller Support

I was extremely excited about this game when I first got it...it seems like everything that I ever wanted in a competitive fantasy game like this. The swordplay worked well, the blink teleports made getting around quick and exciting, and the game looked really cool. I would have recommended it in a heartbeat.

However, I can't do that in good conscience anymore. Unfortunately, the game has bugs that haven't been fixed after months, the community is tiny at this point, and, while this might just be me, I feel like the game has gotten less responsive when it comes to attacking and parrying.

A great game with potential, but it was a let down in the end.

A really promising game, sadly no one is really playing it a whole lot.

it seems to move slowly, as they aren't many working on it, but it's really fun. As long as anyone else is playing. Which seems to be the problem. It's a pretty dead game, but hopefully some marketing once it's released will change that.

I see allot of comments saying:,,Dont buy this game, slow servers,it wont get updated, etc.''But it is getting updated slowly.Just today a new update came out that really made this game more awesome. Also,it depends on which server you play, because they have allot of servers for different regions. For people who dont know anything about this game:Its an Multiplayer PvP and Survival (since todays update)Game where you can create your loadout out of weapons and spells which each player has since the beginning(There are no new unlockable weapons) and a Character menu where you can change the look of you char, but it doesnt gives you better abilities. Each Weapon,Spell or Special Item can be chosen by player, who sets his own loadout and fights in multiple gamemodes against other teams, players, bots, etc. Its also only medieval weapons and honestly,I love playing this game. The grafics are amazingly beutiful,Characters can look really good,The combat system is great, but there are some grafial bugs like:,,Capes and armor just beeing inside a wall/ground/body,Or at the end of a map where there are only textures where you do fall out of the map and die.I Really do recommend this game and its allot of fun with friends.(Sorry if my englishh isnt to great...)

THE DEVS HAVE NOT DITCHED, THEY ARE AWESOME!

This game is not Abandoned! There is a good community.

It is eye candy ( Nice to look at).

Great swordfighting system.

Spells feel awesome when you use them.

MORE FUN THAN CHIVALRY( chivalry is fun too, but I prefer this by a lot).

Balanced ( generally).

Not rage enducing!

Kingdoms Collide couldn't have asked for a better sequel. Combat is somewhat like Chivalry, only everyone's on equal ground and there are 8 swing/parry directions, as long as a clever parry locking system to raise the skill cap extremely high. There's also a ton of character and loadout customization, like magic! You can have 2 spells ranging anywhere from nukes, teleport, crowd control, magic immunity, healing, etc. and use any combination you like, as well a special slot that is used for a bow, mines, traps, throwing axes, what have you.

There's a ton of game modes, ranging from huge FFA fights, organized duels, last-man-standing (Counter-Strike style), as well as a survival and practice mode.

The learning curve is sharp, but it's getting better. They're adding a lot of features into the game to make it easier to understand what's going on, but even then a good swordsman can take you out pretty quickly. I had to pull a player aside, pull out training swords and get smacked for a while as he taught me before I understood what was going on. The game is extremely satisfying, and has a bright future.

Even in it's early state, the devs have the genius and success of Kingdoms Collide behind them, and Kingdoms Rise is looking fantastic.

If you read this review, and you're thinking about getting this game, send me a message on Steam. If you plan on getting this game, add me as a friend/send me a message and let's duel! I'm still learning, and I can help teach you as well! The game is a lot of fun, and I want to help show that to you first hand.

Pretty disappointing 'forever in early access' game. The controls are clunky, the UI is extremely buggy, the game renders horribly, and the map selection/style of play is extremely limited.

I bought this game about a year ago, and have seen some changes.. but far too little.. I couldn't see this game releasing for another couple of years, and even then I worry that it would still be a buggy mess.

I do not recommend this game, even for its price. It is a perfect example of what's wrong with the 'early access' on steam.

This game (with the duel mode and survival + bots) is worth a buy. NUFF SAID. The game play is awesome and it's only going to get better from here. BUY THIS GAME!

Update 10/22/2014: New update just came out with loads of fixes and some new maps! I feel as though I should mention that I haven't really been playing KR lately, but I hope to find the time to jump into it again with this new update! The ONLY thing so far that could spoil this game is a lack of people playing. The devs take a long time with their updates (And that's completely OK, every update makes the game loads better) and the player base isn't very big (last time I played) but with the SP modes they added those who are interested in this game should pick it up (Like I said in the first part of my review) because the ONLY thing that can hold this game back from greatness, is a lack of people playing online and YOU can help fix that :P

Behold, the first sword fighting game where you can actually have your swords clash into eachother, that isn't awkward as ♥♥♥♥ to play. (like die by the sword)
Also theres magic, no RPG stats, and armour is nothing more than the apparel of your character.
You choose 2 magic spells, an equipment item, and your main weapon. Nothing but rage quitters and true skill in this game.
(but mostly rage quitters, thats why servers are empty all the time)

I'm sorry but it almost feels like this is the first melee game thats skill isn't based entirely off lag ranging, I was playing on a european server (I'm from north america), and still counter attacking with 190 ping. Although It is hard, there are no real advantages, but its still playable being a lagger. Reason I state that is because in both chivalry and war of the roses, you can use lag to make your weapon reach almost 3x as far as it normally should. I havn't seen that in this game. so 10/10 in my opinion.

I reccomend people who have already bought this game to give it another try as a big update went through, and tottally renewed the gameplay.

also if you use lightning or a bow and arrow, you're cancer.
